Project Next Best Thing: USUM UU (Week 45: Jellicent - Submissions)

I'm voting Smallrose set, its probably the most versatile set against any kind of playstyle, and less gimmick.

My main issue with with Block Krookodile its that is too focused on trapping Hippowdon, Alomomola and Mandibuzz with a really bad matchup against offensive builds, I find many common checks (offfensive and defensive ones) and counters still beats block set anyways as Amoonguss, Regular Slowbro-Z, M-Slowbro, Chesnaught, Hydreigon, Togekiss/Moltres/Crobat, Tank Primarina, Rotom-C, etc. Many common switch against Krookodile still beats it.

I find Lead Krookodile its simply outclassed by others ones that are faster or with a more utility movepool as Azelf or Terrakion. Personally I think Krookodile to be mediocre outside of their Choice Scarf set (which its a excellent set, easily one of the best Scarf in the tier) and Stealth Rock + Tectonic Rage one.

Darksafadao

best of the second options
First, before the voting starts, we wanna say that we aren't taking into account votes for faded love due to having proof that he has directly been asking people to vote for him, which is cheating. Not only that, we will be banning him from submitting any sets for the next 2 weeks. If this repeats again, expect bigger punishments.
That said, the voting for this week is as it follows:
Aim - 13
Smallsmallrose - 7
Backatyoubro - 3
Dingbat - 3
JustoonSmitts - 1
Nameless90 - 1
Congratulations to aim and his block set! You are this week's winner and will be added to the hall of fame.

And for this week's pick, we have chosen the Vapor Pokémon: Volcanion! With its unique typing, useful ability and interesting moves all around, it should have some sets awaiting to be discovered. The blacklist is as it follows:

Submissions are due to Friday, good luck to all!

Volcanion @ Choice Band
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake/Superpower
- Toxic/Stone Edge

Alright, going in right away with Physical. With a very decent 110 attack stat and a very good typing it would be hard to switch into the stab combo except alomomola. Liquidation is a great physical stab that hits most things very hard, combined with moved like flare blitz, stone edge could be used to hit flying types, or toxic to predict a switch into a bulky water such as suicune or alomomola.

Flame Charge Volcanion

Volcanion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 28 Def / 228 SpA / / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Flame Charge

General idea
What I really love of Volcanion is that this pokemon has so much power that many revenge killers can't really switch-in on the switch.
Choice Scarf is really good to fix the Spe problem, but you are locked to one move and this is bad when the opponent has bulky monsters.
Flame Charge is really good on a predicted switch-out in order to outspeed the traditional revenge killers doing some chip damage to the opponent in the process.

EVs spread and item
Shuca Berry is chosen in order to set-up once in front of an Earthquake user or survive in front of an unexpected Ground-type attack.
Timid max Spe (= 262 Spe points) in order to outspeed the maximum amount of revenge killers possible after a +1 (reaching 393 Spe).
28 Def EVs are chosen to avoid being OHKOed by Scarf Krookodile's EQuake without the berry or avoid the 2HKO with Shuca Berry.
252 Atk Krookodile Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 28 Def Shuca Berry Volcanion: 127-150 (42.1 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
The combination of Shuca Berry + the Spe boost coming from Flame Charge allows Volcanion to beat many revenge killers with EQ, bar the fastest ones (such as Mega Aerodactyl).

Teammates support
In order to clean effectively, Volcanion needs Latias out of the picture.

Alright I’m in Maine currently on this cruise and I have data so hooray! Let me show you how to make Volcanion one THICC boy.

Bulky Z-Haze Volcanion
Volcanion @ Icium Z
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Steam Eruption
- Defog
- Haze

Volcanion is packing some pretty solid 80/120/90 bulk so I decided to go that way with this set. Volcanion now has an even easier time taking advantage of Scizor with this set because the ladder still thinks that not investing any Speed into your Scizor is a good thing . To make up for Volcanion lacking a recovery move, you have Water Absorb as usual to pivot into any Water type moves and Z-Haze to put you right back up to full and it’s also pretty handy against SD Scizor. I also have Defog on this set for role compression in case you want an emergency Defogger. Also no SpA investment because Volcanion is pretty strong even without it. This seems like a nice bulky Volcanion set that can be used in some balance builds and maybe stall if you really want to go there. Peace out Moltres, I’ve found a new bulky Fire type.

Physically Defensive Volcanion

Volcanion @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Steam Eruption
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp

So this set is meant so completely wall steel types such as Scizor, Mawile, and Kartana. It will also not get OHKO'd by pretty much any physical attack (barring crits or attack boosts) and can be a great way to cripple your opponents offensive threats because they will most likely expect to one shot Volcanion.

252+ Atk Mawile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 56-66 (15.4 - 18.1%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
64+ Atk Scizor-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 73-86 (20.1 - 23.6%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 120-142 (33 - 39.1%) -- 13.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Mimikyu Shadow Claw vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 82-97 (22.5 - 26.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Excadrill Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 281-330 (77.4 - 90.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Dragon Claw vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 109-129 (30 - 35.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 273-322 (75.2 - 88.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 158-188 (43.5 - 51.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 181-214 (49.8 - 58.9%) -- 75% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 224-266 (61.7 - 73.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Lopunny-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 139-165 (38.2 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 225-265 (61.9 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Pinsir-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 158-188 (43.5 - 51.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 254-300 (69.9 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 152-180 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery and Grassy Terrain recovery
252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 248-294 (68.3 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Zygarde Thousand Arrows vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Volcanion: 170-204 (46.8 - 56.1%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Volcanion @ Life Orb/Waterium Z/Firium Z/Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast/Toxic/Will-O-Wisp
- Steam Eruption/Toxic/Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Gen 2 called, they want their strats back. Jokes aside, this is a Restalk Volcanion. The restalk nature of the set allows it to continuously check threats like Scizor and Primarina. The moves other than Restalk are pretty interchangeable. You can play a bulky wallbreaker role and run Dual STABS with a Life Orb or Z-move to still be a pretty fearsome wallbreaker now backed by recovery. You can run lefties instead if you want more bulk, and if you want to play even bulkier, you can use Will-O-Wisp or Toxic over a STAB to status other bulky waters that switch in, dragons that switch in, and various physical attackers in the case of Will-O-Wisp. Just don't do Steam Eruption + Toxic as your damage options if you aren't running Life Orb or Waterium Z to power Steam Eruption as you don't OHKO or status offensive Scizor sets like Band, which can hit you hard in return otherwise.

Y’all pulling some weak sets.

Volcanion @ Firium Z
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Sludge Wave

You wanna murder things, this is how you do it. None of that pesky water stab. You set up sunny day and murder everything trying to come in to stop you. Offense? Ha! Sunny day can boost your speed. Stall? Click z-fire blast and make your foes shiver in fear.

This is the best set around.

Thanks for the submission, but this is UU, not OU. Do you have a set that functions in UU, for UU purposes?

Also, you really don't need to post a wall of calcs.

Volcanion @ Leftovers

EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption

This is a slight tweaking of the Sub + three attacks set used in OU, which abuses the hell out of forced switches against offense and bulky Waters against stall; with a sub up, faster threats like Krook and MAero can't KO you before you KO them and said Waters can't use Toxic, giving Volcanion all the momentum. The EVs outspeed Modest Volcanion and Timid Primarina and guarantee that Latias can't 2HKO you with Psychic, just in case you're caught without a sub up.

252 SpA Latias Psychic vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 144-169 (44.8 - 52.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
