1. INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone! It’s Pinkacross, and I’ve got another team. Nihilego is a pokemon I’ve been wanting to RMT for a while, and while I had a lot of good Nihilego teams, I didn’t have any great ones-- until I built this. I’ve inadvertently become known for Nihilego due Pokeaimmd using Nihilego teams by Storm Zone with the Nihilego named “Pinkacross.” I can now finally live up to the nickname. Furthermore, this team has all 100% accurate moves, so if luck isn’t typically on your side, this is the team for you. It's holiday break for many around the world, and whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wanted to give you all this holiday gift. I hope you enjoy it. Without further ado, this is Hidden Gems.
2. PROOF OF PEAK
This peak was achieved mostly by me, with some light ghosting by Storm Zone. The games leading up to #1 were not ghosted.
3. TEAM + DESCRIPTION
Nihilego @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe --- OR --- 80 Def / 176 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Power Gem
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Grass Knot
Nihilego is the primary breaker of the team, though it also functions as a Volcarona check. Choice Specs help Nihilego deal consistently powerful hits to the opponent’s team, and it allows Nihilego to break past Special walls such as Landorus-Therian, Corviknight, and Toxapex much easier. Power Gem is Nihilego’s main STAB, and the move you will click most often. Most teams are unprepared for Rock coverage, and have little to no resistance to Power Gem. Sludge Bomb is another fantastic move with a 30% chance to Poison. This won’t be used as often as Power Gem, but it is very helpful for beating Calm Mind Clefable and Tapu Fini. If the opponent has no Steel types (or their Steel types have been trapped by Magnezone) this move often becomes extremely spammable. Knock Off is a great move for breaking. It allows Nihilego to remove items from opposing walls, most notably Blissey’s Heavy Duty Boots and Galarian Slowking’s Assault Vest. Knock Off is very helpful when facing bulky teams. Finally, Grass Knot is a great coverage option that lets Nihilego deal massive damage to Specially Defensive Hippowdon, as well as OHKOing Swampert and Quagsire. This Nihilego set will receive a Special Attack boost after getting a kill, however you can also use the alternative EV spread above to receive a Speed Beast Boost, albeit packing a slightly weaker punch. This is mostly up to personal preference. Play Nihilego very carefully if the opponent has a Volcarona-- it cannot be chipped too much or +1 Psychic will kill. Another situation to note is that Nihilego beats Specially Defensive Heatran switching in. Power Gem is a 3HKO and Heatran’s Earth Power does not OHKO.
NOTABLE CALCS:
252 SpA Choice Specs Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 136+ SpD Heatran: 147-174 (38 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Choice Specs Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 142-168 (46.7 - 55.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 SpA Volcarona Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 240-284 (66.8 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Future Sight
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
Tapu Lele is the Speed Control for the team, and it functions as a late game sweeper. Choice Scarf helps it perform both of these roles. Moonblast is Scarf Tapu Lele’s main STAB, allowing it to OHKO unsuspecting Dragapult, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, and get a guaranteed hit off. Future Sight can help apply pressure to the opponent’s team if the opponent has a solid Tapu Lele answer that cannot be immediately challenged by Tapu Lele’s coverage. For instance, if the opponent has a Jirachi, instead of doing 20% with a Thunderbolt, clicking Future Sight backs your opponent into a corner where they cannot go into the majority of the pokemon on their team. Tapu Lele has the strongest Future Sight available in OU. Psyshock is Tapu Lele’s next STAB move, which helps break Specially Defensive walls such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking. Lastly, Thunderbolt helps deal damage to Specially Defensive Corviknight, Slowbro, and Slowking. Note that Scarf Tapu Lele outspeeds +1 Dragonite and OHKOs if Multiscale is broken. Play Tapu Lele aggressively in offensive matchups, Scarf Tapu Lele shines against these teams.
NOTABLE CALCS:

Magnezone @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 Def / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Discharge
- Toxic / Magnet Rise
Magnezone is the Steel trapper for Nihilego and Tapu Lele, although it can also function as a wall for offensive threats such as Weavile, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, and Galarian Zapdos. The Rocky Helmet helps Magnezone deal damage to Steels as it enters such as Melmetal, Ferrothorn, and catching damage on a Corviknight U-Turn. It also aids in damaging the aforementioned offensive threats. Iron Defense and Body Press work together to allow Magnezone to defeat (or at least significantly weaken) Ferrothorn and Melmetal. Body Press can also be used to trap and OHKO Bisharp, and finish off weakened Heatran. Discharge is chosen over Thunderbolt for the 30% paralysis chance for only a 10 base power decrease. Lastly, Toxic helps Magnezone punish Ground types that commonly switch into it including Garchomp, Landorus-Therian, and Hippowdon. Toxic is the only move on this team that can miss, should you choose to run it. The other option is Magnet Rise, which helps Magnezone trap Melmetal better, and can even lead to Magnezone using Ground types such as Hippowdon and Landorus-Therian as setup fodder. Max Speed investment with a Timid Nature lets Magnezone outspeed Bisharp, Landorus-Therian, Heatran, and other Magnezone. The rest of investment is in Defense, to make Body Press as powerful as possible. Be careful when using Magnezone to trap, as people frequently double out their Steels or click Earthquake with Steels such as Melmetal to prevent Magnezone from entering. One trick I use to trap Melmetal is switching in Landorus-Therian, U-Turning, then going into Magnezone. Notice when your opponent cannot afford to lose their Steel.
NOTABLE CALCS:
252 Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Magnezone: 108-127 (38.4 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pickpocket / Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick / Poison Jab / Triple Axel
Weavile is a sweeper, a sweeper stopper, breaker, and a Ghost resist. Heavy Duty Boots let Weavile enter safely when the opponent has Stealth Rock up without getting chipped throughout the game. Knock Off is Weavile’s main STAB move, letting it deal great damage while removing items. Ice Shard is a very important priority move that lets Weavile sweep despite fast pokemon such as Dragapult. It also lets Weavile stop speed boosted Garchomp, Dragonite, and Dragapult. Swords Dance lets Weavile sweep and threaten defensive switchins like Toxapex and Ferrothorn. Low Kick is a great final move as it lets Weavile deal massive damage to Steel types without relying on Magnezone. Some teams have more than one Steel type, such as a team with both Ferrothorn and Melmetal, and Low Kick helps to remove both Steels for Nihilego and Tapu Lele. Poison Jab can also be used to hit fairies such as Clefable and Tapu Fini harder. Triple Axel is another option that can be used, which lets Weavile threaten Landorus-Therian with an OHKO even after an Intimidate. Adamant Nature is chosen for extra power, without sacrificing many important speed tiers. Jolly Nature can also be used, however. The Ability is an interesting decision. Pickpocket lets Weavile steal items if it is Knocked Off, including the item of the pokemon that Knocks it off, that very turn. As in, if a Landorus-Therian clicks Knock Off as you swap in Weavile, the Weavile will end up getting the Landorus-Therian’s Leftovers. This can be bad as well, though. A Toxapex can Knock Weavile and pass a Black Sludge. Furthermore, as Weavile only has two abilities, your opponent will know that you are Pickpocket once you send Weavile in. A notable occurrence is that Weavile can steal a Choice Scarf from a Kartana if you switch it in as they Knock Off. This can be helpful if Kartana is blocking a Tapu Lele sweep. Weavile may be the wincon for a certain game, so keep an eye open. Weavile may initially seem unlikely to sweep, but by the endgame it may have a guaranteed win.
NOTABLE CALCS:

Slowbro @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Teleport
- Slack Off
Slowbro is a mixed wall, pivot, and it helps break stall and balance with Future Sight. Heavy Duty Boots are chosen to help Slowbro pivot without taking damage, even when Stealth Rocks, Spikes, or Toxic Spikes are set. Scald is a great STAB move that can burn, and it prevents Slowbro from being too passive. Future Sight is a great breaking move that allows Weavile, Nihilego, and Tapu Lele to be much more threatening than they usually would be. For those who don’t know, I’ll briefly explain Future Sight. It is a 120 base power Psychic move that hits two turns after being used. As in, If Slowbro uses Future Sight, Teleports into Weavile, and then the Weavile clicks Knock Off, Knock Off and Future Sight will hit on the same turn. This deals a massive amount of damage. Teleport is a great switching move that almost always moves last, safely letting in frail offensive pokemon such as Weavile, Nihilego, and Tapu Lele. Lastly, Slack Off is a great move to help Slowbro heal off damage if it is weakened. This Slowbro is Specially Defensively invested to better check Heatran, Volcanion, Kingdra, and Tapu Lele while still having the physical defense to wall Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Barraskewda, and some Melmetal sets. Minimum Speed IVs with a Sassy Nature is designed for Slowbro to be as slow as possible, and therefore have a 50% chance to get the slow Teleport on other Slowbro / Slowking. Keep Slowbro around when facing fat teams, it will be vital for victory.
NOTABLE CALCS:

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 104 Def / 56 SpD / 100 Spe
Careful Nature
- Imprison
- U-turn
- Defog
- Stealth Rock
Landorus-Therian is the Electric immunity, hazard setter, and hazard remover of the team. It is also the most common lead. This is a very interesting set. Leftovers are chosen for longevity, as this is our Electric immunity. Imprison helps Landorus-Therian prevent other Landorus-Therian, Tornadus-Therian, and Corviknight from Defogging or U-Turning out. This lets Landorus-Therian frequently win lead situations against other Landorus-Therian. U-Turn is a great swapping move that can help gain momentum throughout the game. Defog is there to remove hazards, particularly after a trapped Ferrothorn has stacked Spikes on Magnezone. It also serves to prevent the opponent from Defogging. Lastly, Stealth Rock is mandatory for residual chip and increasing the breaking capabilities of other team members. This Landorus-Therian is mixed defensive, as investing in attack would be generally pointless given it only has U-Turn as an attack. The Defense invested allows Landorus-Therian to enter on Stealth Rocks at 100% as a Rillaboom uses Swords Dance, and after Stealth Rock chip, always take a +1 LO Adamant Rillaboom Grassy Glide. The 100 Speed EVs put Landorus-Therian faster than Bisharp, Magnezone, Tapu Fini, and a few extra points to outspeed pokemon trying to creep the aforementioned pokemon. The rest is in Special Defense to help Landorus-Therian tank hits from lead Blacephalon, Choice Specs Tapu Lele, and consistently come in on Tapu Koko throughout a game. When using Imprison on another Landorus-Therian, they will often use Toxic. It is advisable to use Stealth Rock first, THEN use Imprison as most Landorus-Therian will click Toxic before setting hazards. If the opponent knows your set, then this is a toss-up. If the opposing Imprisoned Landorus-Therian stays in and continues clicking either Toxic or Earthquake, I usually go into Weavile to scare them out. This helps keep you in advantage, and maintains your hazards and their lack thereof. Play Landorus-Therian very carefully when facing Tapu Koko and Regieleki, as it is not as strong a check as normal Landorus-Therian since it lacks Earthquake.
NOTABLE CALCS:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 104 Def Landorus-Therian in Psychic Terrain: 273-322 (71.6 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

4. TEAM BUILDING PROCESS
I wanted to build Nihilego, specifically a Choice Specs set, which is the most reliable Nihilego set.
I added on a Magnezone as I knew Nihilego hated Steel types and often couldn’t break certain Steels like Ferrothorn and Melmetal. Magnezone made the perfect partner.
I added a Choice Scarf Tapu Lele for speed control as Nihilego hates priority, and Tapu Lele appreciates Magnezone.
This core was weak to a great many things, and while it was offensively impeccable, I had almost none of the boxes checked for what the team needed defensively. So, I did what all good builders do when it seems as though a core is impossible-- add a Landorus-Therian.
I added Weavile as a Ghost resist, and because it likewise appreciated Magnezone.
I finished off the team with Slowbro because I was very weak to Rain and Water types in general, and I needed a pivot given the frailty of my team. At this point, I realized that I had no hazard control, so I made Landorus-Therian into the Imprison set-- this was acceptable as Slowbro provided a solid Heatran answer.
5. TEAM USAGE TIPS (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
This is NOT an easy team to play. While this team ruins bulky teams, in some offensive matchups you often have to make reads and/or have a very well thought out gameplan. Below are my tips for offensive matchups:
1. Consider the possibility of a Weavile sweep. Many Offense teams are greatly threatened by Weavile.
2. If the opponent has a Volcarona, be very careful with Nihilego’s health.
3. Often keeping Tapu Lele around is a very good idea, it commonly sweeps Offenses late game.
4. Do not let Landorus-Therian get weakened if the opponent has a Regieleki, or to a smaller extent, Tapu Koko.
5. Watch out for Kartana. Trap with Magnezone if possible.
For more bulky teams:
1. Keep Slowbro around. The team is frail, but against bulky teams, Slowbro can get in everything for free.
2. Don’t sack off Weavile unless it gives you a clear advantage, it is often helpful late game.
3. Use Knock Off with Nihilego. With Imprison Landorus and Knock Off Nihilego, all walls can be beaten by Nihilego.
4. Utilize Future Sight from Slowbro and Tapu Lele, fat teams struggle to deal with it.
5. Do not let Landorus faint if they have a Defogger that will be able to Defog. Hazards are very important for your matchup against bulky teams.
And for some general tips:
1. Be patient. This is an odd team that takes time to learn, but it is very effective when mastered.
2. Review the replays. It will give you a good sense of how to play the team.
6. THREAT LIST
All sets of Kartana can be threatening. The speed boosting Kartana is very difficult to handle in particular. When facing one, generally you should swap into Landorus, click U-turn, and, depending on chip and damage dealt, you can go into Magnezone or Scarf Tapu Lele and click Moonblast. Deal with regular Swords Dance similarly, it will die to a Tapu Lele Moonblast after a Landorus U-Turn or after hitting Magnezone’s Rocky Helmet. For Choice Band and Choice Scarf sets, try to trap with Magnezone and abuse the fact that any move other than Sacred Sword will lead to Kartana being trapped.
Nihilego lives a +1 Psychic, even having a very high chance to live in Psychic terrain, but if Nihilego is chipped, Volcarona can be very scary. Tapu Lele can live a hit and use Psyshock, but make sure to be cautious of Volcarona. It is relatively easy to pressure and prevent from setting up, but should it get an opportunity when Nihilego is chipped, that’s probably the end of the game.
