Noivern's blistering Speed, good offensive presence, and decent bulk combine to make it one of the best offensive pivots in the tier. Its unresisted combination of Draco Meteor and Flamethrower makes it difficult for many teams to switch into, and access to U-turn allows it to pivot out of potential counterplay like Hatterene, Sylveon, or bulky Jirachi. It can struggle to deal with certain Pokemon from full health, though, such as Terrakion, and it's pressured heavily by Talonflame and Lycanroc-D, so it should usually be paired with another fast Pokemon. Roost is important and is part of what makes Noivern so effective; its bulk is just good enough to allow it to stay healthy throughout a game and continuously check Pokemon like Cobalion and Keldeo. Hurricane can be used over either Draco Meteor or U-turn to give Noivern better ways to pressure Pokemon like Keldeo, Celebi, and Scyther; giving up on the ability to deal with Kyurem and Dragalge is hard, though, and Hurricane's damage output can be disappointing at times, particularly against Terrakion, not to mention that forgoing Draco Meteor leaves Noivern walled by Pokemon like Rhyperior and Rotom-W. Taunt can also be used over U-turn to prevent setup from the likes of Polteageist and Doublade, but Noivern usually prefers to just pressure them itself or pivot out to a teammate that can better handle them with U-turn. It's helpful to turn the tables on Wish Jirachi, though, because Noivern can prevent it from healing itself. Defog can be used over U-turn if needs be, as Noivern has a good matchup against some entry hazard setters, like Cobalion and Skarmory; it's generally better to just pair Noivern with another form of hazard removal, though.
Noivern's role as a fast pivot means it can safely bring in strong wallbreakers, like Obstagoon, Heracross, and Mienshao, which can break through conventional Noivern answers like Hatterene, bulky Jirachi, Slowking, and Tyranitar. It can also contribute to a team's defensive backbone by acting as a decent switch-in to Pokemon like Doublade, Cobalion, and Skarmory, which can take pressure off its bulkier teammates like Slowking and Skarmory. It can also revenge kill threats like Starmie, Terrakion, and Keldeo, which also eases the role of its defensive partners. Steel-types like Jirachi and Cobalion make for good teammates, pressuring Fairy-types like Hatterene and Sylveon for Noivern and also acting as decent switch-ins to Pokemon like Kyurem if Noivern is not running Draco Meteor or has suffered a Special Attack drop. Those two Pokemon can also form a momentum core with Noivern. Rotom-W is a good partner that can take on Pokemon like Krookodile and Mamoswine for Noivern, which it can struggle to check despite its Flying typing. It can also pair its Volt Switch with Noivern's U-turn to run circles around the opposing team, with Noivern checking Pokemon that would attempt to come in on Rotom-W like Celebi, Kyurem, and Roserade. Other offensive Electric-types like Heliolisk and Rotom-C are good partners for the same reason. Despite its great Speed, Noivern cannot handle Lycanroc-D unless it is at full HP because of its weakness to Accelerock. Partners like Doublade and Palossand are helpful for this reason. They can also check Choice Scarf Jirachi, which would otherwise often try to revenge kill Noivern. Finally, Stealth Rock setters like Rhyperior, Krookodile, and Jirachi can all help Noivern to break past Pokemon that could otherwise survive Draco Meteor, like opposing Krookodile and Toxtricity.
