Maxim, prepare to meet your loss! In have literally spent my entire career training for this one battle: I will not lose.

Normal typed Pokemon only

Arena: ASB Arena

"Ah yes, as for you Yarnus, the only one that will lose is yourself. You will soon find folly in your attempt at winning this gym. I will give it everything I've got, analyze every move you can possibly make, and you will not win unless you can defeat every strategy I can muster. Prepare to lose Yarnus!"

Accepting Yarnus's Challenge.

Hello ladies and gentlemen! This is Frosty reffing one of the three matches that will decide the future Normal-Type Gym Leader!

On one side of the field we have Yarnus of Bethany. Yarnus is a player with a clear goal in mind and 100% focus on it: he wants to be a Gym Leader. Due to that, he is preparing his Normal-Type Pokemon from the get-go: Every single one of his pokemon is of the normal type, even his first ones, something quite unusual. With this kind of experience, you can expect to see someone who knows the ins and outs of going monotype AND of the Normal Type.

Pay special attention to ZZZ! the Snorlax. Aside from being the pokemon with the biggest movepool of his team, ZZZ! has the advantage of being able to attack from the physical side of the spectrum (a side most normal types are weaker to) and of having a lot of hp (read: fat) to burn. His equal defenses and focus on physical attacks may be unusual, but can prove to make a difference, specially in mirror matches!

On the other side of the field is Maxim. Maxim is a veteran, being around pretty ever since the beginning of ASB. Sporting a wide array of pokemon, Maxim is prepared for every battle, kind like the type is aims to lead. Coming from a successful Raid Run against a specially angry Syclant and being the trainer with most time preparing himself, Maxim comes with high spirits and well-prepared for this. Let's see how this all pans out.

Pay attention to Major Ursa the Ursaring. As I said, being to attack on the physical side is a great boon on the world of Blissey, Chansey and Snorlax, and Major Ursa is very well capable of laying down the hurt with physical attacks, specially the always wanted Close Combat. Facing a team of pure Normal Types, Major Ursa is, by far, the pokemon most capable of doing some damage to the opposition.

BUT ENOUGH OF THIS, LET'S SEE THE TEAMS!

Team Yarnus of Bethany

Lickilicky(*) Yum! (M)
Nature: Quiet (Special Attack increased by *; A 15% decrease in Base Speed [Rounded Up] and a +5% flat increase in accuracy (e.g. 85 Accuracy becomes 90) on an opponent's attacks.)

Abilities:
Oblivious: (Innate) This Pokemon is incapable of being affected by Attract or Cute Charm.

Summary: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.
Abilities:
Immunity: Type: Innate This Pokemon’s body has an immensely strong immune response to venom and does not take poison damage when Poisoned. Toxic Poisoning will not do damage; however, it will continue to grow more severe.

Miltank (Moo!) [F]
Nature: Adamant (+1 Atk, -1 SpA)
Type: Normal
Summary: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.

Abilities:
Thick Fat: Type: Innate This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire-and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.)
Scrappy: Type: Innate This Pokemon’s Normal and Fighting attacks carry a special signature that can damage Ghosts, even if they have phased out.
Sap Sipper(locked): Type: Innate This Pokemon lives on a steady diet of plants and has developed defenses to every Grass-type attack. When attacked with a Grass-type move, damage and effects are negated and the Pokemon gains a one (1) stage attack boost. A boost gained this way by an opponent's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

Ambipom(*) Pow! (M)
Nature: Adamant (Attack increased by *; Special Attack reduced by *)
Type: Normal
Normal: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.

Abilities:
Technician: Type: Innate This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their one-hit or two hit attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power on each hit multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, Double Hit to from 4 per hit to 6 per hit etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects. Technician only applies to combos in the rare case that an initial hit will have 6 or less BAP.
Pick Up: (Innate) This Pokemon has a natural habit of collecting items. Whenever a hold item (its own or an opponents) is used or knocked onto the ground with a move like Knock Off, this Pokemon will immediately pick up that item without using an action. It can also grab dropped or naturally occuring hold items in arenas.

Skill Link: (Innate)(unlocked) This Pokemon’s skillfull aim makes its multi-hit moves always hit 5 times. The Energy Cost of multi-hit attacks is increased by three (3).

Round 1

Maxim gets out Aht the Cincinno with King Rock. Don't let its cute face or poor stats fool ya. That is Maxim's hard hitter!

To counterattack, Yarnus of Bethany sends out Pow! the Ambipom with no item. The usage of no item is odd to say the least. But oh well.

Being just a little bit faster, Aht wins the speed tie and digs a hole just before Pow! tried to Taunt it. The Taunt failed obviously.

Some time later Aht pops up and strikes at Pow!, while Maxim does a happy dance for winning the speed tie. Which doesn't go well with his persona haha.

On the second turn, Pow! tries to get rid of Aht's King Rock with a Combination of Fake Out + Knock Off, but the Cincinno managed to Protect itself just before that and kept his item!

Finally, Aht attacked with a very strong Tail Slap, getting 5 hits thanks to Skill Link, while Pow! cools down.

The lack of substitutions for protect and for a speedtie lost took their toll on Yarnus, as he now has a small hp difference to catch up to. But at least Aht wasted a lot of energy this round...

Speed Ties (1=Ambipom): 2, 2, 2 (cincinno, cincinno, cincinno)

Cincinno: Dig for 5 energy

Ambipom: Taunt for 10 energy
but it failed

Cincinno: Dig: 8+1.5 = 9.5 damage for 5 energy
Crit: 10 (no)

Cincinno: Protect for 13.2 energy

Ambipom: Fake Out + Knock Off: ((4+4)+3+4.5)= 15.5 (protected) damage for 7 energy

Cincinno: Tail Slap: 5*4+3+1.5 = 24.5 damage for 11 energy
Crit: 10, 12, 15, 4, 5 (no no no no no)

If Taunt is used, then use Magic Coat that action and push actions back, but only do so once.

Round 2

Maxim calls Aht back and sends out Matrix the PorygonZ with Silk Scarf. The PorygonZ then quickly downloaded info about his foe, getting a handy Special Attack Boost.

Pow! wastes no time and goes underground to escape Matrix's Tri attack.

After a gooood time, Ampibom strikes with dig while Matrix counters with Swift.

Finally, Pow! gets rid of Matrix's Silk Scarf with Knock Off, but is then hit with a powerful download-analytic-boosted-STAB Tri Attack for good damage. It actually did as much damage as Pow! on this round.

Using a move you don't know is illegal. Since it happened in a sub, it causes the sub to be ignored completely.

That resulted in the previous round being completely changed. Both need to reorder starting with Yarnus.

"This is a tighter spot than I'd like honestly, but I have no intention of giving up now."

Thunder Wave~Swift~Swift
If Magic Coat, then use Swift and push actions back.
If a Substitute is up A1 before you move, then use Hyper Beam, followed by Swift, followed by Thunder Wave
If Protective/Evasive move, then use Agility and push actions back, but never twice in a row.

Dang it Yarnus, why do you have so many options to screw me over? You are a worthy adversary.

I know you're winning, but keep in mind that I'm using my mons from worst to best. You must still be on your guard.
