np: UU Suspect Test Round 1 - Sunny Days

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has managed to get high with a non-stall/non-weather balanced team because at the moment it feels physically impossible from my last experience..

My balanced team also peaked ~#50. I used scarfed Altaria as a counter to every chlorophyll user ( most opponents lower on the ladder couldn't understand how or why their team of 4 chlorophyll users were out sped and OHKO'd) and stallbreaking cobalion to handle stall.

I am currently testing scarfed Gardevoir as a counter to sun and she is doing great, and also enjoys tricking chansey too =]

I've been thinking about using a Gardevoir to counter sun along with my Curselax. What moves are you using?

Anyone tried this set?

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Leech Seed
- Psychic

Can stall and sweep at the same time, unless you're me and Leech Seed misses like every time for you. Can easily come in on stuff like Chansey, Sub up, and according to your switch-in, use Leech Seed and Substitute to stall them out (Like Victini), or use Calm Mind up for a potential sweep.

I don't see the merit of running Power Whip on Victreebel, since you lose the ability to run Weather Ball / Sucker Punch. +2 Leaf Blade gets most of the KOs you'll need anyway (and you don't have to worry about missing)

I was using a physical Victreebel because I was testing a Special Attacking Shiftry at the same time. In addittion, it's less expected, so I often net KO's on Chansey and the like. Victreebel also has a higher Base Attack.

Although, due to there being less Sand/Hail than I expected... well, I'll see what I do. The main things I miss out on with Grass/Fire are Fire types, who, with Arcanine...

I don't really like Stall. I don't like Vulpix. I hate hail. So yes, I use a non-stall/non-weather team. And yes I have gotten pretty high with it, peaking at number 11 (Well, technically, my peak is at number 2, but I don't think losing the first ever UU battle counts). I run Zoroark, Weavile, Donphan, Wobbuffet, Mew and one other guy I can't remember cause I switched them up since then after falling pretty far. Though I got back into the top 40 with the last member being Suicune and switching out Mew for Yanmega.

Every Pokemon has its own role, and you have to take advantage of it. Probably to most important part though is using Zoroark well. most people I see using it always lead with it, and if not always bring it in against something that makes it obvious. You need to mix up who you are disguising as, when you bring it in, and what situations to bring it into. Getting a free turn to NP by forcing a bad switch can sometimes win you the battle.

I've gotta say, Offensive Suicune is really pulling it's weight. Bulky enough to stop most fires and set up, and but still powerful enough to sweep occasionally.

Just watch out for Abomasnow instantly OHKOing your whole family with Blizzard.

1. Team Preview. Don't use Solarbeam if Abomasnow is around.
2. Even if it does switch in, all you lose is the Solarbeam-er. Any reasonably bulky Fire-type (e.g., Arcanine) can switch in to a Blizzard and scare Abomasnow out.

Actually I wasn't thinking Grass types with Solarbeam, as Energy Ball or Giga Drain is generally better.

I was mostly thinking Fire types who have poor movepools. Which Abomasnow doesn't really want to come in on.

1. Team Preview. Don't use Solarbeam if Abomasnow is around.
This is the problem. You don't have a Grass move when Abomasnow is around. Team preview does not stop you from effectively not having a STAB the entire match because you're afraid Abomasnow will come in. You might as well use something consistent like Giga Drain.

Abomasnow is not gonna like Hp Fire, if you predict correctly then all you have is melted ice cream, and you can always use Giga Drain/Power Whip to have a reliable grass attack, this helps a lot with hippo since if he swiches in the "solarbeam" and then you use Whip is dead hippo, you just killed it's weather starter and if yours is alie then you most likely won, Abomasnow is harder but with SR he can hardly swich (and any fire type force him out) an he is also week to dugtrio

I'm loving UU just now. Victini is the only real problem, although I have reservations about Sun. Lilligant in sun is just a beast.

I've gotten up to number 22 with a nifty team I made, but I lost a few games in a row and I'm now struggling to get back up. Towards the top end of the ladder, sun is definitely the dominant force, from what I've seen.

Durant is one of my favourite Pokemon in the metagame. It just rips apart teams that don't have a good counter or check for it (like Cobalion, for example).

I know Durant is good, but it's not good in this meta since chloropylled (to outspeed) Hp fire will take all of your health with nothing more than those crappy defenses (and you really need a turn to set the hone claws)

Durant is definetely good but i think the Choice Band Set is what makes him really shine.

Heracross is pretty boss too!

So far i only found Victini in Sun broken (CB-V-Create in Sun 2hkos pretty much everything qq). Some other sun abusers are annoying but can be dealt with through different kind of measures.

Kyurem is strong but didnt turn out overwhelmingly strong so far (i mean i used a team without sr and still managed to defeat this iceking).

Okay, now that I have some experience of UU it's time for me to discuss the suspects.

Victini
Must I really mention him? His V-Create is insane, whether or not it's banded/sun-boosted; he should definitely be banned, 'nuff said.

Kyurem

He is very powerful offensively, and not exactly frail; in fact he's pretty bulky. His raw power can be taken by a few pokemon, such as Chansey (on the special side, anyways) and Dusclops. Other then that, pretty much every offensive threat is OHKO'd by it, whereas he needs to get hit by a powerful super-effective attack, like heracross' close combat.

Suicune
Meh...can't really say anything =/

Crocune is really starting to annoy me... it's bulky as fuck and can dish out strong hits. Scald is even more annoying when it burns you, or when sleep talk happens to get scald which is annoying. Sure sleep talk may backfire, and water immunities wall it. but I thing it should be considered suspect. Maybe I'm in the small majority, but whatever

counter to v-create, A choce scarf pokemon that can KO in one hit cuz most of them will be choice band

Problem. Victini has 100/100/100 bulk. You need a powerful attacker or decent attack with SE moves OHKO. Even at -1 defenses its not exactly frail. And if you can't OHKO you most likely will be OHKOd yourself. Not to mention the fact that if it is as -1 defenses it may likely just switch out.

can a moxie choice scarf adamant heracross kill after the defense drop?

Well, before the defense drop:

Adamant Scarf Heracross Megahorn to 0/0 Victini 61.6% - 72.1%
Adamant Scarf Heracross Stone Edge to 0/0 Victini 68.6% - 80.9%

After:

Adamant Scarf Heracross Megahorn to 0/0 Victini 91.5% - 108.5%
Adamant Scarf Heracross Stone Edge to 0/0 Victini 102.6% - 120.8%

So you need Stone Edge to guarantee the OHKO even at -1, though Megahorn has a chance. However it can always just switch out.
