NU Discussion Thread (Mark II)

Why can't I use NU Pokemon? I spent 34.99 US dollars on this game, if I wanna use "Never Used" Pokemon, I can use 'em daggummit!

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. NU is the tier where Pokemon go when they aren't used enough in UU, (which in turn is where Pokemon go if they aren't used enough in OU, aka the standard metagame). Here's all of the Pokemon that are in the NU teir. I'm not sure if there's a specific place to set up NU battles on Wi-Fi.

Um, NUs can be used anywhere. But you can't use UU or OU or Ubers in NU. And if you don't like it, play shoddy for free. Also,

Daggum!!!

Agreed, there's many types of NU that can work everywhere in different tiers, the most common one would probably be Quagsire used in uber, works well destroying Kyogre for being used due to it's ability to Have Water Absorb and being Part ground not being affected by Thunder.

Yeah, but I just looked on PO and their forums and it says nothing about it.

Are you confused with Pokemon World Online or something?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but: What nature / Hidden Power / Set does Magmortar usually run now? The analysis in the Strategydex for Magmortar is still based off of OU. :/

Magmortar@life Orb
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 Def/ 252 Spd
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk) / Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earthquake / Focus Blast / Cross Chop

That's standard right now I believe.

I'm guessing you would change to a Mild / Hasty nature if you wanted to run Earthquake or Cross Chop?

Mild should be used with EQ, because you really need the extra power against Flareon/Ninetales.

Not really.

Modest:
Vs Ninetales: 71.1% - 83.6%
Vs Flareon: 72.5% - 85.6%

Rash:
Vs Ninetales: 78.7% - 92.7%
Vs Flareon: 80.8% - 95.2%

Modest still gets the KOs after SR, most of the time, and with a layer of Spikes its guaranteed.

What are the calcs on KOs relevant to the Def/SpD drop from Rash/Mild? Guaranteeing two crucial 60%-ish KOs seems pretty useful.

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else in the thread, but is there a way to use HG/SS moves on the CAP Server?

EDIT: Also, does lead Gligar usually run 4/252/252 or 252/4/252?

Thanks

Lead Gligar has a variety of different sets and spreads. I know Heysup's is Sashed with Toxic, Taunt and 252 Atk/252 Spe. I'm partial to either 252 HP/252 Spe or 252 HP/252 Def with Roost and U-Turn. (Obviously, both have EQ and SR in the other slots).

To use HGSS moves on CAP, make a new team.

Golduck is NU and I'm fucking appalled. I was ripping shit up with him today in OU:

Golduck (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 32 HP/224 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Calm Mind
---

Look familiar? Offensive Cune with more Special attack and Sandstorm Immunity. Go figure... this thing fucks shit up. I ended up sweeping some fool today after a single Calm Mind, taking out Celebi, Zapdos and Magnezone in one hit.

Gotta realize that pokemon function differently in certain tiers. Honestly I've never used or even SEEN a Golduck but that set looks pretty good for NU.

I think a lot of tier status hinges on the reason why the pokemon isn't used. Golduck isn't used not because he sucks.. but because of mediocrity or the fact that there are just so many better water types. Stats wise hes pretty much 80 accross the board (average), with above average Special Attack. But he has good movepool. This is a common problem with a lot of lower-tiered pokemon. Feraligatr for example, isn't a bad pokemon hes actually really good, just 100% outclassed by Gyarados, hence UU status. Raikou is BL because of Blissey and his shitty ability (pressure on a sweeper? give him volt absorb and go figure).

Other NU pokemon are NU just because they are only good at one specific thing that just has no use. Like Qwilfish no one will touch unless considering a Rain team (rightfully so, even then he is largely outclassed by Kabutops).

It really is a shame. It is just extremely hard to find uses for these little fellas unless you devote an entire team that says "I will use and support this NU / UU pokemon to make him effective."

I see your point.
Hm... Raikou's last chance of being OU was shot by fixed Nature's. Aura Sphere Raikou would dominate OU but Nintendo made it Rash. (Not even Hasty... that's like kicking us in the teeth)

On topic, Golduck is the only Calm Minding water type so he should be at home here right?
