[OVERVIEW]

Ledian's only niche is to set dual screens to provide extra insurance for Baton Pass chains and their recipient. It is otherwise wholly outclassed by Beedrill as a Swords Dance passer due to its inability to take advantage of the Attack boosts and Noctowl as a specially defensive Flying-type due to its inferior defensive typing and bulk.

[SET]
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Reflect
move 2: Light Screen
move 3: Baton Pass
move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers
ability: Early Bird
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
=========

Reflect and Light Screen ensure safer passing of stat boosts and Substitutes. Baton Pass is mandatory given Ledian only fits on Baton Pass chains, and Substitute lets it safely bring in teammates. Maximum HP and Speed investment with a Timid nature helps Ledian set dual screens as quickly and safely as possible. Early Bird is mostly irrelevant, but it can prevent sleep inducers like Haunter and Venomoth from crippling the chain as easily.

Ideally, Ledian will be the final stop before passing stat boosts to the recipient of the chain. To ensure the stats recipient is as safe as possible, both Reflect and Light Screen as well as Substitute should be set before passing stats to it.

Team Options
========

Since Ledian only fits on Baton Pass chains, ideal teammates are stat passers like Mawile, Plusle, and Delcatty as well as a recipient. Octillery is the best option as a recipient due to Suction Cups preventing it from being phazed and its great power and coverage making it essentially impossible to wall once it has stat boosts.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Agility and Swords Dance are fair options; Agility gives Ledian more use at the beginning of the chain, while Swords Dance can help it function as a discount Beedrill. Generally, however, the standard set will be preferred.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Anti-Baton Pass Moves**: The best way to counter Ledian isn't by targeting it in specific; rather, your best bet is to use a move like Taunt, Perish Song, or Roar to halt the chain entirely. While Taunt gives you an opening to directly threaten Ledian, Perish Song and Roar put a complete stop to the chain. Explosion and Self-Destruct are also problematic, since they can potentially remove a member of the chain outright.

So I'm going to suck and say I think Swords Dance needs to be slashed on here somewhere. In a vacuum there's almost no reason to use Ledian over Beedrill to pass SD, this is correct and not arguing that. However, if the point is that we're writing its analysis to tailor it to BP chains anyway, then Ledian's one singular perk over Beedrill will actually come into play at some point, and that being its immunity to Spikes (and its higher speed, but not super significant). On a chain it doesn't matter that Ledian can't make use of the SD boosts itself, esp on a set that already doesn't have any attacking moves, but it does matter for the chain that you have multiple outs in situations for when you get crit and need to scramble to restart. Having both screens available can help, but you're (almost) never going to get to use both (or want to) anyway on a chain (reason being the boost isn't permanent and doesn't last long enough). Sub and BP are the only necessary moves here but I definitely think SD should be here as well.

Doesn't actually require you to change too much but, imo, I think it would be the most pertinent use of Ledian if you were going to do so.

i added it + agility to oo; agility got use in cpl and it seemed good enough there, and im not convinced sd pass ledian is that great because mawile and ofc beedrill tend to do it better, but eh it won't hurt to include it anyway

Nothin',

my only note is that I would personally say it's outclassed by Noctowl more by bulk than typing; in a vacuum Bug/Flying isn't /that/ much worse than Normal/Flying, esp in NU (near immunity to Fighting traded for a weakness to Fire), although I suppose the weakness to Fire matters more when you want to be a special wall and are weak to 3 major special moves... i suppose i digress

did, added also that its bulk pales in comparison to the owl
