WEEK 17: Decidueye

decidueye.gif
This feather fiend has slowly risen in popularity recently for it's fun offensive and defensive capabilities plus the ability to beat down metagame staples like Bewear, Plume, and Cress. On top of that, the diverse movepool and multiple viable sets make it an enigma whenever it touches the field. Let's see what you guys all got! Submissions end Friday, February 5th, so make sure to get those wonky sets in!

sd + salac berry

Decidueye @ Salac Berry
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Spirit Shackle
- Leaf Blade

- Poltergeist

this set can be used on hyper offensive teamstyles such as dual screens as with swords dance and the salac berry it defines itself as a great setup sweeper. the salac berry is to outspeed pokemon such as arcanine, celebi, and salazzle after activation. its ability is long reach to not get effected by effect spores, etc. spirit shackle traps cresselia while poltergeist is its hardest hitting stab move: leaf blade is its hardest hitting grass-type stab.
however this decidueye needs to be aware of faster scarfers even after a salac berry activation so pairing it up with a dual screens setter is the best choice to make its bulk better.

Decidueye
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Spirit Shackle / Poltergeist
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
I use this set the most. Running itemless benefits this set in two ways. It a) allows Decidueye to be immune against opposing Poltergeist and let it act as a check against Golurk and Dhelmise and b) boosts the power of Acrobatics. Ghost + Flying coverage is pretty cool at the moment and hit's basically everything you need. Spirit Shackle in combination with Swords Dance is able to beat even Kee Berry Cresselia 1v1, while Poltergeist hits notably harder if you really need the damage. Long Reach helps with the matchup against Vileplume's Effecte Spore and Bewear's Fluffy.
Jolly nature is necessary to outspeed and overall have a better chance at winning the 1v1 against Bewear. Adamant gives you some extra power if you feel like it but I personally don't like it.

Special Scarf
:ss/Decidueye:
Decidueye @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Hurricane / Air Slash
- Shadow Ball
- U-turn

This is a special scarf set. Leaf Storm is strong STAB. Hurricane is to defeat Pokémon such as Bewear and Vileplume. You can use Air Slash instead of Hurricane for better accuracy. Shadow Ball is STAB. U-Turn is to switch out on bad matchups.

Curse trapper

Decidueye @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spirit Shackle

Tired of running into escavalier, drapion or guzzlords while running mono stored power attacker cresselia ? Here comes THE decidueye ! Thanks to curse and feather dance, decidueye can process to trap drapions, guzzlords, escavaliers off-guard.While there are at -6 atk, decidueye can start curse (which is often guaranteed 4hko),(and more again like non-mystical fire sylveon,weezing,vileplume..)
Roost recovers curse recoil and keep decidueye healthy enough to ensure some defensive utility.

Physical Scarf Decidueye

Decidueye @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Overgrow/Long Reach
EVs: 16 HP / 240 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poltergeist
- U-turn
- Leaf Blade
- Brave Bird

General idea
The idea is to use a physical-oriented Scarfer that hits quite hard even though it is still slowish.
U-turn is a must-have in every Choiced set because it provides momentum and hits hard enough to be used as a coverage move.
Poltergeist + Leaf Blade is the dual STAB combination.
No Knock Off because the former move is preferred as attacking move due to base power + STAB bonus.
Brave Bird is a strong move and, even if you are being killed by recoil, leaves you with momentum so it can be useful even to keep the momentum.

EVs (spread) and item
252 Spe+ EVs are chosen to be used to reach 262 Spe points without the item. 16 HP EVs are here to reach 301 HP, enough to switch into SR one more time or to avoid being killed by 3 Night Shade. The remaing EVs are put into the Atk.
Both abilities are pretty randomic, so decide basing on Iron Barb/Aftermatch effects you think you will encounter.
The Choice Scarf allows this Decidueye to reach 393 points, which is enough to outspeed some threats and some traditional revenge killer.

240 Atk Decidueye Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Dhelmise: 312-368 (90.9 - 107.2%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
240 Atk Decidueye Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Celebi: 312-368 (91.4 - 107.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
240 Atk Decidueye U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zoroark: 200-236 (76.6 - 90.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Team(mates) support
Hazards support and hazards removal is always appreciated to reach the kill onto a weakened threat.
In return, this Decidueye offers a fastish U-turn/Brave Bird to keep the momentum and hard-hitting moves.

Scope Lens Crit Machine Decidueye

1612337915622.png

Decidueye @ Scope Lens
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle / Poltergeist
- Shadow Sneak / Sucker Punch

Have you every wished to get just 1 dose of fortune in a Pokémon battle? Well your wait is over! Scope Lens boosts your crit chance, and Decidueye has a STAB move to abuse this in Leaf Blade. Cresselia will wonder why it even bothered having a Kee Berry. SD provides the boost, Spirit Shackle for STAB damage. You could run Poltergeist instead, but I've started seeing things like Vileplume (one of Decidueye's checks) running no item and Shackle can trap opponents in as well. The last moveslot is priority, as Decidueye isn't really that fast.

Sidenote, I realise there are 2 SD sets already in the thread, so if this set is too similar to them please let me know and I'll come up with something else.

Congratulations to Corthius for winning the Decidueye Cycle with Itemless Acrobatics

rangooo

:ss/Sceptile:
Sceptile is our pick for the next Cycle. With a high special attack stat and decent coverage options in Focus Blast or Dragon Pulse, Sceptile can act as a decent special wallbreaker. An amazing ability in Unburden, which allows it to pull of many different ways of setting up (on his own or with support), Sceptile can also act as a sweeper on various teams with different playstyles.
Submissions for Sceptile will end on Friday, Febuary 08th. Have fun!

specs

Sceptile @ Choice Specs
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Focus Blast
- Dragon Dance
- Giga Drain

Although it has pretty limited coverage, Sceptile has all the special options it needs to do damage in the meta. Leaf Storm acts as a nuke for most things except for the annoying Steel types like Copper, which is where Focus Blast comes into play. Dragon Pulse is another great last slot to hit Dragalge, a usual hard wall, and Giga gives recovery and a more spammable, albeit weaker, stab option.

Psychic Seed Unburden
:ss/Sceptile:
Sceptile @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Nature Power
- Acrobatics / Rock Slide / Thunder Punch / Crunch / Earthquake / Drain Punch
- Work Up

This is a mixed sweeper set for use in Psychic Terrain. Once you send out Sceptile in Psychic Terrain, Psychic Seed activates, which activates Unburden. And as long as Psychic Terrain is in effect, Sceptile can enjoy the luxury of not being revenge killed by most mons. :D Leaf Blade is STAB. Nature Power, when in Psychic Terrain, turns into the move, Psychic, which is useful for dealing with Vileplume and Bewear. For the third move, you can run what coverage you need. Acrobatics has double power once Psychic Seed is consumed. Rock Slide can deal with fire types like Talonflame. Thunderpunch also deals with flying types, but can do serious damage to Mantine. Crunch is useful for doing damage to Bronzong, who otherwise walls this set. Earthquake is to deal with steel types like Copperajah, who would also wall this set. Drain Punch is another way of dealing with steel types and is a form of HP recovery. Work Up boosts Sceptile's attack and special attack, which helps to secure OHKOs.

mixed leech seed attacker

:bw/Sceptile:
Sceptile @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Leech Seed
- Leaf Storm
- Earthquake
- Drain Punch

This set aims to be an annoyer with Leech Seed spreading damage and causing that Sceptile gains health back, Leaf Storm is its best and strongest STAB denting through bulky Water- and Ground-types easily, whereas Earthquake hits Steel-types such as Copperajah, and the less common Silvally-Steel, Erathquake also hits Pokemon such as Arcanine for super effective damage. Drain Punch hits Guzzlord for super effective damage and is a way to further gain health back.

White Herb + Nature Power Sceptile

Sceptile @ White Herb
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Nature Power
- Focus Blast

General idea
Here we have an AoA cleaner (not sweeper) with 4 special moves.
Leaf Storm is the STAB that has a great base power and activates Unburden consuming the White Herb. Just be sure to avoid 4x resistances to Grass.
Dragon Pulse to have neutral coverage most of the time.
Nature Power is still a good attacking move in its base form, but it is more useful with little team support, thus gaining a lot in terms of coverage. It somehow condenses many coverage moves.
Focus Blast is a powerful coverage move, the best you can have.
Keep in mind that Sceptile is a glass cannon, so it has to rely on high-risk high-reward moves; also, this pokemon is a cleaner that loves KOing already weakened threats.

Nature Power can be:
* Tri Attack: neutral attack with a good 20% chance to get a useful status;
* Energy Ball: still useful because it doesn't drop your offensive prowess and is STABbed, thus making it quite powerful;
* Moonblast
* Thunderbolt
* Psychic: useful coverage moves.

EVs (spread) and item
The EVs spread is a basic offensive one. 0 Atk IVs in order to minimize the damage from Foul Play.
White Herb is chosen because it allows to use Leaf Storm to double Sceptile's Spe, which is already high without boosts.

Team(mates) support
Terrain support allows to use this Sceptile at its fullest potential; Psychic Terrain also allows to avoid being hit by priority moves (thus helping Sceptile a little).
Hazards support is mandatory in order to chip damage the opposing team.
