Project NU Next Best Thing [Week 35: Gastrodon]

standard rocks druddigon

Druddigon @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Glare
- Stealth Rock

pretty self explanatory set. it just sets up stealth rocks and cripples everything with glare. dragon tail is a nice move to punish pokemon that want to switch in such as wish passers or steel types. with earthquake hitting diancie for decent damage. the 20 speed evs allow you to creep base 50's such as diancie and vileplume. rocky helmet + rough skin provide tons of chip to the opponent, and can kill weakened physical attackers.

Hone Claws + Scale Shot Sweeper
:ss/druddigon:
Druddigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Scale Shot
- Fire Punch
- Iron Tail

Swords Dance + Scale Shot is arguably the best form of setup in the game. Unfortunately, Druddigon doesn't learn Swords Dance, but Hone Claws is good enough for a similar set to work, and has the advantage of boosting the accuracy of Druddigon's less reliable moves. Druddigon outspeeds everything up to positive natured base 96 Pokemon at +1, and Choice Scarf Passimian at +2. Fire Punch hits non-Heatproof Bronzong Steel-types hard, but if you really need to hit that Earthquake could be used instead. Finally, Iron Tail is used for coverage on Fairy-types (used over Gunk Shot to hit Diancie, and because Iron Tail still OHKOes physically defensive Sylveon and Comfey at +1.)

Druddigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Gunk Shot
- Fire Punch
- Scale Shot

This set looks to take advantage of druddigon’s good defensive typing to get substitutes on common defensive mons in the tier such as Vaporeon or non WoW talonflame. Behind a sub it has the ability to break through teams with its coverage and STAB, and potentially serve as a late game win condition with its speed boosting move of Scale Shot. Very fun set that can catch some teams by surprise.

scary face druddigon

Druddigon @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Fire Punch
- Glare
- Scary Face

This Druddigon acts like an annoyer with Gunk Shot hitting incoming faities such as Sylveon and it can lure it with Scary Face to make it slower for the subsequent Gunk Shot. Fire Punch hits Steel-types such as bronzong super effectively and with Scary Face and Glare it has multiple ways of being an annoyer and it can disrupt setup sweepers also while they attempt to perform a setup. Its bulk is max max to tank physical hits the best from ht e likes of Bronzong, the less common Aerodactyl, and Pokemon such as Braviar and Drapion to cause a huge recoil effect.

Druddigon @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 224 HP / 114 Def / 142 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Taunt / Glare

Mold Breaker’s pretty cool for bypassing Xatu & Levitate Zong, which are annoying for other rockers to deal with. It also ignores rarer abilities such as Aroma Veil and Water Bubble, which is useful in some rare cases. The EV spread is customizable to your teams needs; I ran this much speed to get the jump on Vapo, but if you’re not running Taunt, then a simple 252/252+ spread is absolutely fine.

Druddigon @ Blunder Policy
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Outrage / Scale Shot
- Fire Punch
- Substitute

This set is made to take Gunk Shot and or Scale Shot misses and turn it into an advantage (because i hate missing a move and lose). After the boost, this druddigon can outspeed every unboosted pokemon (except jolly ninjask and outspeeds timid accelgor by one point lol). Using sub makes this set less prediction reliant, and does not make u toast after the Gunk Shot miss. With it's huge attack stat, this is prime for a late game cleaner when the opponent's pokemon are weakened. Sheer Force also gives a little boost to Gunk Shot and Fire Punch. You can use Scale Shot if u want to outspeed scarfers and hate the confusion from Outrage. It also has a chance to activate blunder policy too.

Druddigon @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Glare
- Earthquake
- Swagger

step 1: Glare everything in sight
step 2: if they have toxic or Vaporeon, click substitute
step 3: click swagger and watch them fail
step 4: ????
step 5: more profit

Mold breaker works nicely with Earthquake since half this tier levitates and hitting Xatu with Glare is always nice. Max Speed to get the jump on Vapreon, Mantine, Golurk and friends is important. Pair it with something that beats Sylveon JUST in case it breaks past your swagger glare combo. Copper is good.
