Nuzlocke Challenge

Combusken learns Double Kick at level 16 when torchic evolves. I know grinding is frowned upon, but still; that would work. Or just train your Marril a little bit.

I'm planning on doing an Emerald run so I just gave it a test trial to the first gym, and my Torchic evolved to a Combusken without fighting any wild Pokemon.
But I also don't use Pokemon I don't want to. The only other Pokemon in my party was a Zigzagoon and I threw away a few Wurmples and Poochyenas. I would've had a Tailow and Shroomish if I found either.
You could also not train your Pokemon evenly and give your Torchic priority.

This is what was decided on difficulty for each Nuzlocke run of each game.

FR/LG = easiest
Emerald = most popular
Ruby/Sapphire + Platinum = most enjoyable
Diamond/Pearl = hardest by far
Gold/Silver/Crystal = the ones with the hardest losses

So I would recommend any Generation III games or Platinum!

While I've not Nuzlocked for a while [I will start again once I've broken up], FR/LG are NOT the easiest, by no means.

Reason 1: Posion is EVERYWHERE, Weedle = doom in the early game, especially if it posions your rock-counter. Not to mention, grinding... Posioned, dead.
Reason 2: Sabrina. Only Psychics and Magnemite can take them, and, did I mention the Army of Poision types that you'll probobly have?
Reason 3: Levels, highest level E4 in the whole series.
Reason 4: Rival is a pain, unlike in every other generation

In short, FR/LG forces you to use Bulbasaur, and even if you get past the start, you'll struggle in the mid game against Sabrina with Bulbasaur... and the inevitable Posion army you'll have.

agreed with raikaria leaf green is a pain. Emerald was prety easy althouth I only played until beating norman and my save file got deleted :(.
I agree dp are hard to nuzlocke. for me dp easy start real pain in the ass late game lg hard start mid game prety normal late game HELL.
and to beat sabrina I only have a poor Jynx everything else would probably die to a single hit (except snorlax) and I think flareon can take a hit. the rest of the team would die to any attacking move

Not really. Charmander and Pidgey can rip through Viridian Forest, although you'll encounter Grimers and Koffings later. But then Psychic and Dig are TMs (along with EQ, but that's late-game), so it shouldn't be too bad, and you might catch a Butterfree, which has access to Confusion. Sabrina is easily taken out by any of the Eeveelutions using Bite.

GOOD THING I HAVE FIVE ANTIDOTES
it's not like items are not allowed... that's optional.

I'm gonna do Firered with these rules (modified from moot's)

-If a Pokemon in your party faints, you must release it.
-Every time you reach a new route, cave, etc., you may only catch the very first Pokemon you see, but you may not if you already have one of the same species. The Pokemon may sit within the box for an indeterminate amount of time as a backup.
-If you fail to catch the first Pokemon you see, either via it fleeing, knocking it out, or having no Pokeballs, you may not catch another. Tough shit.
-This means you can not catch a pokemon in a route you had already encountered a pokemon in before you could catch pokemon.
-If a town you go to contains a body of water or a gift, pokemon like Bill’s Eevee in G/S/C/HG/SS, that may be considered a Pokemon of a new area. Gift pokemon in a route (such as the riolu egg on Iron Island) are disallowed.
-You must nickname your pokemon so there is some sort of attachment. Each pokemon is a best friend to you, to see them die is heartbreaking.
-If your entire party faints, they all must be thrown away. If you have a pokemon left in a box somewhere, you may continue, otherwise you must start your game over.
-You may only buy 1 pokeball from each pokemart.
-You are, under no circumstance, allowed to get a second pokemon from any given area.
-You are, under no circumstance, allowed to use items outside of battle. If you were poisoned on your last turn of the battle, you better hope to god there is a pokemon center nearby.
-You may not switch out before the enemy trainer sends in a new Pokemon.
-You are not allowed to use legendaries in battle.
-You are only allowed 2 heals per pokemon center EVER. This will keep me from grinding.

Just a quick informal poll:

How would you rank the games in order from hardest to easiest for a Nuzlocke run?
I just want to know if I'm doing an easy or hard game.

from hardest to easiest in my personal experience (others will deny it)
  1. Yellow (techinally Colloseum but...)
  2. Red/Blue
  3. GSC
  4. FrLg
  5. DPPt
  6. RSE
  7. HgSs
This is the order I've found, but if you chose the best starter on each it might change ('cept yellow). Yellow is really hard around Sabrina due to the brokeness of the Lv.50 Alakazam.

From my experience, the worst I've seen is Psywave. But it does have Psychic from my knowledge of the game...although I've never seen it use it. Having a fast physical Pokemon is extremely helpful (i.e. Dugtrio)

Other than Psywave and Psychic, it knows Reflect and Recover. It usually uses Reflect first, but that won't change things much. It still usually gets one-shotted to ~40 Dugtrio's Dig.

Well, I'm playing Pearl and have just beaten Maylene.

I'm playing with standard rules but to make things even more difficult I released my starter as soon as I could (you can thrash the entire game with one of them alone). Oh, and you can't buy pokeballs or any sort.

Party:

Hardon:
Lv 25 Graveler < really helpful, MAGNITUDE ROCKS, especially in double battles where bronzong can dodge it with levitate.

Felix:
Lv 25 Kadabra < Killed everything Psychic.

Prof Nutty
Lv 25 Pachirisu < wasted Maylenes' Lucario with charm and spark.

Mirage
Lv 24 Bronzor < walls things, really valuable.

Florence
Lv 24 Gastly < needs to evolve

Happiny (Egg) < needs to hatch

Dead:

Bidoof Lv 12 (Chompy) < owned Roark with Simple defence curls!
Starly Lv 12 (Flapstar
Buneary Lv 14 (Hopkins)
Meditite Lv 14 (JodanZuki)
Zubat Lv 16 (Vambat) < sacraficed himself to cripple and flinchax Gardenia
Shellos Lv 22 (ShellPal) < my very favourite, I honestly thought I would go all the way with this guy, *sigh*.

I'm really underleveled.

lost my gyarados. Saturn's toxicroak got his revenge.

now who should I pick from the box... hmm mm
sneasel I choose you!

@ victus :
WHAT DID I TELL YOU. Don't go over your head and use insane rules, especially on platinum.

Hell yeah! Beat Roxanne, albeit only by grinding Marill up to Level 10 (where it learns Water Gun). I ended up using 3 Potions just to take down that stupid Nosepass of hers. :P

BTW, why does everyone say Platinum is so hard? You can easily get Starly, Shinx, Zubat and many other very usable Pokes right from the beginning, and the first gyms shouldn't be too tricky if you manage to grab a Machop for Roark and Starly/Ponyta for Gardenia. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I'm planning to after I'm done with Emerald.

After failing Diamond and losing the will to play in Fire Red due to my venasaur and primape dying, i'm going to try emerald :).
Standard rules.

Ok I did some of XD just to prove it could be done, but after losing everything except Espeon I decided to start again - on Colosseum. Hardest challenge imo, XD is not easy but it is manageable. After toying about with a few ideas, here is a formalised set of additional rules for the GC games:

As standard, pokemon should be nicknamed as soon as they are purified. The Name Checker resides in Agate Daycare Centre in both games.
The first pokemon in each area may be captured as normal. In addition, if both wild and Shadow pokemon exist in a single area (cave pokespot on XD for example) a wild and a Shadow pokemon may be captured.
Colognes can and should be used for purification, this is an exception to the no items rule. Other items may be sold to purchase colognes only.
In the case of XD where Shadow attacks are supereffective on non-shadows, an additional Pokemon from each area may be captured - however this meatshield may NOT be purified and must remain a Shadow Pokemon. You are still limited by pokeballs given/from boxes and may not purchase more. Choose wisely.
All other nuzlocke rules apply.

If anyone has suggestions on these rules feel free to post in this thread. I will start on Colosseum Nuzlocke soon.

I had to do a lot of grinding for Brawly... lesson learned (lost two Pokemon to him)

Haha, if you can find a Chansey for one of these, you are SET!
Actually, no. Chansey can and WILL die to any moderately strong physical move.

R/S is annoying for this, seeing as Zigzagoon/Linoone are in THIRTEEN different locations. Chances are, if you can find one, you will find one, which makes getting good Pokemon hard. And then there's Spinda (great moveset but Normal-type and bad stats) on one of the few land routes the raccoons aren't on...

Zigzagoon and Linoone are much rarer in Emerald.

Well, Nuzlocke says on his website that it is allowed to catch the first non-duplicate in an area. Meaning that if you caught Zigzagoon on the first route, and encountered one on the second route, you can skip it and use the first non-Zigzagoon encounter for your one Pokemon from the second route.

Huh, really? This knowledge could have saved me much trouble.

I think the duplicate rule is, again, a matter of opinion. (I personally say the first unique pokemon in each area, but w/e) I'm doing this in HeartGold, but I've only got Feraligatr left at level ~45 and I'm on the Rocket Goldenrod Tower part.
