I got bored with and my tail handed to me by my Fire Red run, though I might come back to finish the Elite Four when I get the willpower to do it. For now, though, I've been wanting to play Pokemon Emerald, so I'm Nuzlocking that game.
Rules:
- Catch the first unique (one I haven't caught yet) Pokemon I find in an area and give it a name then.
- If a Pokemon runs out of HP, it is dead. Place it in the "DEAD" PC Box.
- Do not trade or hack for any Pokemon (not a problem at all; I'm using an emulator and I don't like to cheat).
- I must save the game before I turn it off, and I must turn it off right after I save the game.
- The Battle Style is "Set".
- I may not use healing items (Potions, Antidotes, that stuff). I may, however, give my Pokemon hold items and/or berries. I cannot, however, use Berries on them to heal them. TMs and HMs are also allowed.
- Do not let the levels of any Pokemon exceed the highest level of the next Gym Leader or Champion I must fight. (Example, don't use Pokemon higher than Level 31 against Norman.)
- Enjoy this! This is supposed to make the in-game more fun. (not really a rule, just a statement.)
I'll probably try something more creative if I decide to keep reporting on this, but for now, let me just sum up the events of my run so far.
My name is Hal, not to be confused with Nuzlocke comic artist "Hale". Mom sent me to get some groceries from Absolutely-No-Point-To-This Town in the north, when a wild Zigzagoon attacked me. Luckily, I was rescued by a Treecko that ran away from Birch Lab. I called him Kyle, and we started our journey together.
In Absolutely-No-Point-To-This Town, we heard that a girl might be in trouble. We fended off a Poochyena that we could not caputre due to lack of Poke Balls. It turned out, though, that the girl in trouble was my sneaky, trap-loving neighbor May, and her Torchic Ray. They came to drag Kyle back to the lab, but Kyle refused and air juggled the red chicken. May gave us some Poke Balls as a taunt.
On Route 102, I got REALLY lucky and caught a Ralts. \^o^/ She calls me "Nick" for some reason, so I named her "Maya". She lacked any offensive moves, so I trained her until she learned Confusion. After that, the three of us decimated Route 102 and landed in Petalburg City. It turns out that if I want to see my dad, I have to first collect four "symbols of power", whatever that meant.
Route 104 yielded "Ami Mizuno" Wingull, and I snagged a Wurmple named "Wiggler" from Petalburg Woods. After training them a bit, they learned Supersonic and evolved into Silcoon respectively. Nobody could stand very tall against the five of us. Not Bug Catchers, not Rich Boys, not Twins, not even some weird pirate we met in the woods. ...huh? Getting to Rustboro was a breeze.
We wanted to fight more tough trainers, but I didn't think we were ready. So, I scoured Route 116 for a new friend. We wound up with "Shenzi" Poochyena, and I designated her as my hunter, a Pokemon who wouldn't really fight in battles but be used instead to weaken and catch new friends for us. I put her to use to befriend "Kim Pine", a Whismur from Rusturf Tunnel.
After some grinding, I brought Kyle, Maya, Ami, and Wiggler (who had become a Beautifly by now) to Rustboro Gym. Between Ami's Water Gun and Wiggler's Absorb, the juniors didn't stand a chance. But now the real battle can begin.
HAL VS ROXANNE! Heaven or hell, let's rock!
Kyle totally took charge on this battle. He brought the two Geodude down in one shot each. Nosepass, however, was much tougher. It took several Absorb attacks to bring it down, and Nosepass had even landed a Rock Tomb on Kyle to slow him down. However, Kyle stood tough and kept eating the Easter Island head until it was just a crumb. This battle resulted in learning Pursuit, evolving into a Grovyle, and gaining the Stone Badge. Would all the gyms be this easy? I doubt it, so I'll savor this while it lasts.
After a detour that brought me against another pirate, I headed south to catch a boat to Dewford. Unfortunately, I was caught by some flaming ropes set by May, who had acquired a Lotad named Pedro, in addition to her Torchic. A Grass-type and a Fire-type. Hmm...
MERCURY AQUA MIRAGE! Ami made quick work of May, and we headed south.
In Dewford, I snagged an Old Rod and caught myself a Tentacool, which I named "Jean". In Granite Cave, we found a Makuhita training herself, and I volunteered to be "Shesoheavy"'s coach. (By the way, every Pokemon besides Kyle has been female so far. That's the last 7 captures.) We delivered a letter to this shady and scary-looking gray-haired guy, then I got to training Jean, Maya, Ami, and Wiggler for the tough fight ahead.
HAL VS BRAWLY! Super SMAAAASH BROTHERRRRRRRRRS!
Ami led this fight and easily swept Machop and Meditite in two Wing Attacks each. But the real fight began with Makuhita. Ami put up a good fight against this tubby terror, but she could not muster the strength to finish him after a Bulk Up. Ami was in trouble...
...until Wiggler stepped in. She could take fighting attacks much better, so I reserved her in case Ami got in rough shape. Wiggler's Gust was mighty enough to bring Makuhita to the red zone. But then...
...Makuhita held Wiggler in a tight hug, jumped up, and body slammed my Beautifly. Makuhita pulled a Reversal at his weakest moment and ended Wiggler's life. My first loss. ;-;
Maya was unhappy with what had just happened, so while Makuhita was getting healed in the corner, Maya unleashed a blast of Confusion at Makuhita and weakened it. Makuhita was strong, but he was also horribly slow, so Maya was able to pull off one more Confusion before ending Makuhita's career. Go back to the minor circuit, Glass Joe!
This game's winner is... Hal, aided by his Ralts, Maya! (I love my cute and powerful little Ralts. :) )
After acquiring the Knuckle Badge, I acquired one more Pokemon from the beach north of Dewford: a Magikarp. He was the first male Pokemon I've obtained since Kyle (combo breaker!), and he had a Naughty nature. Magikarp isn't too useful at this point, but after the next gym, he will be far more valuable.
We fought trainers on the beaches of Slateport after training Kim Pine for a bit, and in the port, we saw a bunch of pirates standing in line at the oceanic museum. (What?) Whatever. I hope I get an Electrike from Route 110.
Nope! Gulpin. I called him "Rodriguez", then I searched out Captain Stern. I finally found him at the museum, only to be ambushed by the pirates, who I found out call themselves "Team Aqua". Kyle sucked health from the Carvanha, while Kim beat down the Zubat. Then, the pirate Captain Archie appeared before us, declaring that they seek only the greatest treasure the world has to offer: the ocean. Um... these are some of the weirdest pirates I've ever seen. Then again, I'm not much for One Piece.
And, that's the last big thing I did. So, what am I using?
Green Lantern Corps (my team, the willpower)
Kyle Grovyle, Sassy, Lv18. Pursuit, Cut, Absorb, Quick Attack. [I should have just waited until I got a Tentacool to teach Cut to somebody.]
Maya Ralts, Brave, Lv17. Growl, Confusion, Double Team, Teleport. [She's fine for now, but I would like to evolve her.]
Ami Mizuno, Brave, Lv18. Growl, Water Gun, Supersonic, Wing Attack. [Also good, though I wish her evolution would come sooner than 25.]
Shesoheavy Makuhita, Brave, Lv16. Tackle, Vital Throw, Sand-Attack, Arm Thrust. [My best shot against Wattson. Has Guts.]
Jean Tentacool, Sassy, Lv16. Poison Sting, Supersonic, Cut, Acid. [What I should have waited for in a Cutter. If only she learned a good Water attack soon.]
Kim Pine Whismur, Calm, Lv17. Pound, Uproar, Astonish, Howl. [What to use a Whismur for... the possibilities...]
Blue Lanterns (in reserve, the hope)
Shenzi Poochyena, Jolly, Lv09. Tackle, Howl, Sand-Attack. [Might train her in the vain hope of making Voltorb's WTFBOOM suck more with Intimidate.]
Koi King Magikarp, Naughty, Lv10. Splash. [Pointless with the electric gym next, but may be okay later.]
Rodriguez Gulpin, Docile, Lv13. Pound, Yawn, Poison Gas. [-_-. Unlike Hale, I'm unsure as to Gulpin's value.]
Black Lanterns (Bring out your dead!)
Wiggler Beautifly, Careful, Lvs 05-16. COD: Makuhita reversed, and Wiggler got the worst.
...Um, yeah. So much for summing it up quickly.
