Official Doubles Rulesets

As Baron9 said, there has definitely been a rise of double players within the last few weeks or so for multiple reasons and I think now would be a great time to establish something such as this. I know there's a lot going on with singles right now, such as Garchomp testing, UU tiers, etc. but if there's no overlapping between persons who are working on the singles metagame and the doubles metagame, I think it could be possible to pull off.

I've been interested in, but have not yet experienced anything from Uber Doubles, so I may be wrong in saying that I agree there should be some sort of seperation between that and standard.

I play PBR Wi-Fi with doubles all of the time and I have to say that I prefer that over the occasional 6 vs. 6 that I've had. Well as you know, doubles is a very different metagame than singles, because in doubles you have to work more with all of the pokemon working together. I'm not saying that's not what happens in singles, but in doubles, you not only have to have one working with another, but two working with two others, working with two others after that. Therefore, I find it easier and more efficient to make 4 Pokemon work together than getting a whole team of 6 to work together perfectly. Basically the idea of having 6 Pokemon and choosing four out of the group.

Intruiging thread! Very thought provoking.

I am for one in the mood for 2v2. Encompassing strategies which bound teams together is very fun and exciting. And of course, with Nintendos affinity with doubles and a 2009 world tournament, it could be useful.

Although some may disagree, I think the rules we should start with are the Nintendo official ones and then "Mould" from there. We've seen evidence of what that metagame is like from JAA partially, and for DP this latest tournament ongoing right now. From there we could try putting in sleep clause, removing item clause etc etc and see what happens. This is tough without a simulator however.

How to play? I see two options really. If we adopt Nintendo rulings, then maybe a special 2v2 breeding project for 2v2 "standard" (pokes used in the official Nintendo tournament finals etc) or allow "legal hacks" to incorporate the feel of a simulator, with a couple of enthusiastic 2v2 players hacking upon request.

Its tough, but I hope this thread keeps going and finds some conclusions. Personally, Im all for 4v4 with or without the extra 2 option.
