Official NBA 16-17' Season Thread

Its been so long since Lakers games were fun to watch I'd forgotten...

Copped the biggest L - big difference maker was our defense and bench, which isn't the same as last year. This team also looked way impatient on both ends trying to make plays compared to last year when they were down big time. Honestly, I had my doubts about how good we were going to be even with the addition of KD but there is plenty of time for adjustments and maybe some moves down the line, who knows? Still confident in my team of course. But damn, what a L, lol.

edit; we need our big men back :'(

BRUUUUUUUUUUUH

AND THEY EVEN ENDED CURRY'S THREE-POINT STREAK

As happy as this game made me, that was absolutely disgusting. I know the Warriors will get better as the season progresses even without a legit center, but all the open-yet-missed shots and turnovers from both sides made the game too sloppy.

You know what, though? Nance Jr. and Randle looking dominant inside for at least one game, and against Golden State? KOBE MUST BE PROUDDDDD

The reason the Warriors have turned into a below-average three-point shooting team is because the shots they're generating aren't from a fluid, motion offense of sharing the ball imo. It's not a chemistry thing. Durant just fucked up the rhythm of the team if you ask me.

I know it's early, but I'm just going to say it:

Golden State aren't a shoe-in for a championship. Hell, they're not even a shoe-in for the finals or conference finals.

You have to wonder if the signing of Durant is a case of.. possibly not adding as much value in comparison to the cost? They essentially had the most efficient shooting in NBA history and the most efficient shooting player ever. And you go and get... another shooter. Another scorer. At the cost of rebounding, defense, depth, and a bench. You add something you were pretty much already #1 in. Call it a case of diminishing returns, because every Durant shot takes away every other shot Curry or Klay took.

Was it worth it? We'll see, because so far, they look worse than last year's team. Adjustments can obviously change this, but what exactly is this team's ceiling if they're getting blown out or struggling with the bottom tier teams?
I've been saying this the whole time, but nope, star power apparently beats anything. I 100% agree with you.

All the shots were open, they were just missed lol. I'd be more worried about their D.

I don't know, they did have a lot of open looks but I feel like that was just them chucking at that point, to try and get a rhythm established after a terrible start to the game and even seemed quite impatient with trying to get a good look from 3. Especially Curry, he was chucking trying to keep his streak going but there was no purpose for the shot itself, rather he just dribbled 5 times off the screen to the left and just chucked. There wasn't any fluidity within the offense. Maybe it's just me overlooking things but I definitely agree it's the defense that is probably most concerning since these guys are going to make their shots...

That's what I've been saying ever since they signed Durant. I even got made fun of cause I said they wouldn't beat their own 73-9 record. Well, my original prediction of winning 70 games is starting to seem like a stretch LOL

You got made fun of for saying that? I mean even setting aside the issue of fit and chemistry there's a lot that needs to go right for a team to come close to those heights, injuries, schedule, dumb luck, etc. Also it's pretty silly to expect a super team of this nature to click instantly, LBJ's Heat were the same, for most of their first season iirc they weren't performing up to their potential, but they eventually got things sorted

Bulls falling back down to Earth. Defense is a major issue as opposed to their offense.

But of the players who have played 100 minutes thus far this season, Rondo is ranked last in true shooting %.

... Honestly, Dwayne is the only one remaining shooting notably good on this team.

Been too long, good to see this thread still going. I must say I'm not all that worried about the Warriors even if I'm not that fond of them, early struggles with a "super" team is something we've all seen before and know it always turns around. The Spurs are looking like..well..the Spurs, the Heat are going to be a question mark all year for me and the Lakers are looking like they have no fucks given of what they are "supposed" to be, they're straight ballin.

Sixers will win it all. Big league.

what a bounce back performance from steph. from a 0-10 shooting night from 3 at LA, to a new NBA record 13 3's in a single game! couldn't believe what I was watching n_n

The Hawks played the Cavs last night and you know what I actually realized, in the last 2 playofffs that the Cavs played in, what Dominating Big Men did they have to play that has that amount of shot blocking at the rim and has the potential to put his back to the basket. If Tristan Thompson can't guard Dwight, The Cavs really have no interior threat that can guard Dwight in the post. I'm not jumping the ledge saying that the Hawks can beat the Cavs in a game series but, the Hawks always had a problem of defending Lebron James in the paint because he would always attack the paint vs the Hawks. I think if the Hawks traded around, and got a really good scoring piece, when they go on scoring slums or a really good defender who can prob guard Kyrie or Lebron, well no one can guard Lebron or Kyrie but Slow them down. Kyrie dropped 28 last night, Schroder had to drop 27 to keep in content, Schroder wont be dropping 27 every game.. Kyrie can. I feel like the Hawks are a very interesting team

lol
do not put that much faith in Dwight through the playoffs.
No one is putting faith in Dwight Howard, and Its just proof that he's actually working harder this year and he has team mates he coexist with. Dwight Howard Orlando Team resembles this Atlanta Hawks Team, a little bit. Give credit where credit is due

Not even a little bit... <_<
Not to sound rude, because I am a Derrick Rose fan, but to name your Smogon account over a man that hasn't performed in the playoffs in a while, can't really speak, but yeah Injuries but to be fair to Dwight's case, he was in a 2 particular offenses that he didn't like and he was injured last season, so to be honest with you sir. you haven't really made a strong argument, so Not even a little bit... <_<

um... i followed the magic very closely when dwight was there all those years. i know a "magic howard" team when I see one.

the hawks ain't it. they aren't a hot three point shooting team like that. dwight isn't dominating in offensive sets constantly or running the floor constantly. they aren't playing inside-out basketball.

takes from today
>demar derozan is a scoring machine, prob best candidate to take scoring title this yr
>hornets severely underrated, playing some good basketball w/ a 6-1 record now - they did have somewhat a relatively easy schedule but still an impressive start without Batum playing at his best potential
>boston looks to be in trouble but are dealing w/ injuries so hard to judge
>bradley beal can never catch a break
>Indiana is struggling together as team so far, there might be some moves/trades down the line
>uh lma, wya?
