Official NBA 16-17' Season Thread

I regret changing my name with how inefficient Westbrook has been trip doub or not.
But all jokes aside, the Sixers actually aren't a joke anymore in just one season. Embiid must be a damn difference holy shit

Just when I thought the Raptors might be able to catch up to the Cavaliers they go on tilt again. The East really does feel pathetic compared to the West right now, sad to say.

West All-Star reserves: Russell Westbrook, DeMarcus Cousins, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Marc Gasol, DeAndre Jordan, Gordon Hayward
East All-Star reserves: Isaiah Thomas, John Wall, Kyle Lowry, Kemba Walker, Paul George, Paul Millsap, Kevin Love

In all due respect to Charles Barkley as a player, he needs to keep his mouth shut as an analyst(at least about LeBron). Granted, LeBron shouldn't have addressed his issue about lacking a backup playmaker to the media, that should have stayed internally in the organization(same thing about DWade and Jimmy Butler) but Barkley has been nothing but critical about LeBron for years. Anyone who sided with Barkley is just a LeBron hater who can't recognize greatness. This is coming from a Pacers fan whose heart has been broken by LeBron for years

To be fair, that's what Barkley is paid to do. Analysts are supposed to be critical of players, there's no sense in paying these guys just to praise players, anyone can do that. Whether you think his criticism of LeBron is fair is another issue, but I have no problems with either side.

It's not like Barkley expressed an unpopular opinion about LeBron. I don't agree 100% with his criticism, but it's the kind of thing lots of people have been saying since LeBron first took his talents to South Beach.

I feel like this is kinda a misunderstanding. There's criticism in terms of saying "X is bad" and there's criticism where you analyse a given thing and identify components that work or not and how they come together- a film/game/book/whatever "critic" isn't there to be negative, they're there to deconstruct and evaluate. It's no different in the case of a basketball analyst, like if he were to heap praise on the Rocket's offense by discussing why the roster full of marksmen in conjunction with Harden's ability in the pick and roll fucks opposing defences up, that would be fine because he's analysing how that team works

edit: I guess I would agree that this is what Barkley is paid to do to an extent, albeit for different reasons than you say- it's not uncommon for him to say dumb shit and that generates a lot of attention

Not only do the Warriors lead the league in points and assists, but steals and blocks too! 2nd in 3% and 5th in boards without a centre...ridiculous
