How many pokemon do you need from high rank viabilities to have a sucessful team? My current team works rather well for my standards, but only.one member (Bisharp) is above B rank viability. I'm rather new and was wondering if a team of lower viability mons csn be sucessful in higher ladder.

Maximize it's damage output and further it's ability to take Special hits.
I'll be honest, I dont think you understand how EVs work. Offensive Pokemon should invest in a combination of their respective Attack stat, Speed, and HP. Defensive Pokemon should invest in either Defense or Special Defense, and HP. There should not be an overlap, you are wasting EVs. The spread by Kurona outspeeds uninvested base 60 Pokemon and puts the rest into HP to take hits better and have a stealth rock number.

Just curious, can you explain that EV spread? Using max special attack and special defense investment is a very poor use of EVs, and seems very odd.
Well, some AV sets invest that way. I believe most AV Conkeldurr do that nowadays. If you were for some reason running AV Dragalge in RU that might make some sense. For a Specs set in OU, heck no.

Yeah, only on AV sets should you invest in spdef over hp. And AV dragalge should never be used, no matter what tier you're in. People, please don't do that.

Is there anything capable of checking both Weavile and Mamoswine? My current team has a large Ice Shard weakness and I'd like to try to fix it in one slot. LO Freeze-Dry Mamo wipes out a decent amount of otherwise decent checks.

Question about Greninja's ban: was it ever discussed banning Protean instead of Greninja? if so, what was the conclusion?

Question about Greninja's ban: was it ever discussed banning Protean instead of Greninja? if so, what was the conclusion?
People on Victory Road are currently discussing it and frankly I'm astounded that's what their time and resources are being used on.
Protean itself isn't broken, just Greninja's use of it. Banning Protean would also mean banning Protean on Kecleon and Frogadier in the lower tiers, and a complex ban of the likes of Greninja + Protean isn't part of Smogon's policy in the same way Blaziken + Speed Boost isn't because it opens the doors for things like making complex bans for any Ubers Pokémon to make them usable in OU.

There was a discussion in the Victory Road section of the OU forum, while there has not been a conclusion, from what I've read it's not the ability protean that's broken, greninja with its high speed, attacking stats, and plethora of coverage moves make it broken / unhealthy.
Edit: greninja'd

What's the best mixed set for Infernape these days?
Overheat, Close Combat, Coverage Move, Mach Punch. Hasty Nature. Life Orb. 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SpA

Can I ask why Excadrill is even A? I mean, it's pretty worthless outside of Sand, and as a Rapid Spinner, I like Starmie a lot more.
Because Excadrill is very versatile. It can run a Choice Scarf Revenge killing set, A Life Orb Sand Sweeper, or a bulky Assault Vest set.

Because Mold Breaker Toxic for M-Sableye is too good.

On a more serious note, while it is pretty mediocre outside of Sand in terms of being an offensive threat, remember that we do technically rate a lot of threats pretty high despite them only being good under certain weather conditions. For instance, I don't think Kingdra is any good outside of rain unless you count the CritDra set, which is pretty gimmicky, yet it sits at B+ just because it is such a monster under the rain. Granted, it could probably stand to drop to A- since it has one good set that requires weather and a bunch of other sets that are pretty mediocre, but 1 good set + usable but niche set(s) is still a better net sum than 1 good set. Thus I don't see Excadrill dropping much. At most it'll drop to the same rank as Kingdra, but no more.

Either way if you wanted to propose a drop, there's probably enough grounds to try and do so in the viability rankings.

Magnet rise Klefki :)
Thanks. As far as other options go, I've found a decent number of Megas work (Venusaur, Slowbro, Scizor) but there aren't too many non-Mega options that work and I wanted to fit a different Mega in. Maybe I should just make an IceSpam team instead :)

It puts a ton of pressure on any offensive team in Sand, can't be stopped by Pankster TWave, has great defensive typing to switch in, resists Brave Bird, can run Adamant in Sand, and it has great coverage and STAB Earthquake. I feel like it gets a bad rep because people either try to Scarf it or put Rocks on it or something dumb like that.

Best third attack on NP Thundy? Currently running NP/TB/Focus Blast, can't decide if I want Knock Off or some sort of Hidden Power in the last slot.

Generally, Hidden Power Ice will be your best option. Helps give you a fighting chance against defensive ground types like non-Scarf Lando and Gliscor

Regarding the Garchomp thing, I was asking because, while I get that it can fulfill some various roles, it doesn't seem to really excel at any of them. I hardly ever see analyses recommending to watch out for it or consider it as a teammate, and overall it seems kinda outclassed by stuff like Landorus.
Also, is Togekiss' Serene Grace abuse still in vogue?

You can go a few different way. Knock Off cripples common switch-ins, specifically Chansey. Taunt allows for stallbreaking and can cut off recovery and phazing. Thunder Wave can be used for speed control and crippling sweepers. HP Ice gives you outstanding coverage between Ice / Electric / Fighting. HP Flying, my personal favorite, gives you very strong STAB and almost unreisisted coverage.

Knock Off is generally just used for lati@s and chansey. With np, thundurus takes lati@s with hp ice, and after 2 nps chansey shouldn't be a problem anymore either, so hp ice is probably a better choice than knock off. Psychic or hp flying are options if you're really really scared of m-venusaur as well

Whats a good EV spread for Belly Drum Azumarril, w/ Belly Drum, Aqua Jet, Knock Off and Play Rough? Also, is knock off better than superpower?
