Sigilygh for Check

250px-Damon_Sigilyph.png

Sigilyph @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Psychic
- Heat Wave

Sigilyph is just a check here, even though Psychic will make the OHKO, you take a min of 84% on an unboosted Knock off. Just need to be careful about when you switch in other wise you may just cop a Knock off that will never kill (bar crit) but will go awfully close enough for Mach punch to finish you off.

Sigi > Gurdurr

252 SpA Life Orb Sigilyph Psychic vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Gurdurr: 374-439 (100.2 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Gurdurr > Sigi

Meloetta has issues switching in because Gurdurr hits rather hard, but Psychic cleanly OHKOes and Melo can even live a Mach Punch that has several boosts.

252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Meloetta: 144-169 (42.2 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Mega Audino as a counter

Audino @ Audinite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spd
- Rest
- Dazzling Gleam
- Sleep Talk
- Calm Mind

Mega Audino is a very reliable counter to Gurdurr as it can take any hit at +1 and can potentially set up Calm Minds alongside Gurdurr. At +1, Dazzling Gleam is a guaranteed 2HKO on Gurdurr.

+1 252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Audino: 106-126 (25.8 - 30.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Here are some other things I've been using that happen to counter Gurdurr.

vileplume.gif

Plume Dume (Vileplume) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 248 HP / 184 Def / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
- Synthesis
- Moonblast
- Giga Drain / Aromatherapy
- Sludge Bomb

Vileplume is a counter. It resists Gurdurr's attacks and nearly always 2HKOes with Moonblast after Stealth Rock damage. Keeping Vileplume healthy throughout the match isn't too difficult either because of Synthesis. You can go for full investment in Def to better check Gurdurr and other Fighting-types or start investing in SpA, but this mix is what I've been using to better switch into Rotom-C and other Grass-types.

0 SpA Vileplume Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Gurdurr: 170-202 (45.4 - 54%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 248 HP / 184+ Def Vileplume: 50-59 (14.1 - 16.7%) -- possible 8HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Gurdurr Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 184+ Def Vileplume: 85-101 (24 - 28.6%) -- 33% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+1 252+ Atk Gurdurr Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 184+ Def Vileplume: 128-151 (36.2 - 42.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+1 252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. 248 HP / 184+ Def Vileplume: 74-87 (20.9 - 24.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Air Slash
- Pain Split

Rotom-S is a counter. While it doesn't resist Knock Off, it can tank a hit and 2HKO back. Air Slash even has a chance for flinch hax.

8 SpA Rotom-S Air Slash vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Gurdurr: 198-234 (52.9 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Gurdurr Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-S: 69-82 (22.7 - 27%) -- 99.7% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Big Byrd (Pelipper) @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Scald
- Defog
- Hurricane

Pelipper is a soft counter / hard check. Pelipper's similar to Rotom-S here, except it has access to Roost, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on predictions. Hurricane is an easy 2HKO, though the miss chance is significant. If nothing else, you can Defog to decrease Gurdurr's evasion. The miss chance is why I listed this as a soft counter or hard check, but Pelipper should win the majority of the majority of these fights.

0 SpA Pelipper Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Gurdurr: 236-282 (63.1 - 75.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Gurdurr Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 73-86 (22.6 - 26.6%) -- 95.5% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Tyrantrum @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Superpower
- Earthquake

Tyrantrum is easily capable of talking multiple Brave Birds from Substitute+Bulk Up Braviary thanks to its solid physical bulk and resistance to Flying-type moves. From there, Tyrantrum can simply outspeed Braviary and smack it with a ridiculously powerful Head Smash, cleanly OHKOing Braviary even if its already set up multiple Bulk Ups. Really, the only way Braviary can possibly win is if Tyrantrum misses multiple Head Smashes.

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Atk / 232 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Roar

Rhyperior is at least a counter against Braviary. with Rock Typing and a Natural 130 Base Def stat and Access to a multi-hit move to break through sub and to keep going to make the KO. However trouble does begin at a +1 Def Braviary and it not being able to remove Sub in one shot of Rock Blast. If you feel as if the Braviary is just boosting on you, you can always roar it out.

ayy thx MrAldo this will help me add to the C&C section of Braviary's analysis :D

anyway, Golbat is a Hard Check

Golbat @ Eviolite
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog / Toxic
- Roost
- Brave Bird / Toxic
- Taunt

I was going to do Rhyperior or Mega-Lix, but Braviary can take on those guys pretty well if it's the last Pokemon on its team. Golbat is unique in that it can prevent Braviary from setting up with Taunt AND hit through Substitute. Golbat outspeeds and 3HKOes / 4HKOes with Brave Bird, while Braviary cannot 2HKO at +1 with Brave Bird, and Golbat can Roost off the damage. However, there are a couple problems with this; for example, what if Taunt runs out and Golbat is low on health? Also, Golbat may get 2HKOed when factoring in its own Brave Bird recoil. For these reasons, Toxic could be run over Brave Bird or Defog, allowing Golbat to effectively stall out Braviary, only having to alternate between Roost and the occasional Taunt.

Calcs:

0 Atk Golbat Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Braviary: 136-162 (33.6 - 40%) -- 30.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Braviary Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Golbat: 93-111 (26.3 - 31.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Reserving Magneton

Magneton @ Choice Specs / Eviolite
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Grass

Magneton is a hard counter. With a 4x resistance to Braviary's only attack, Magneton doesn't even need to invest in bulk to take on Braviary. The specs set almost always OHKOes even without rocks up while Eviolite is an easy 2HKO. You don't even have to worry about Roost cutting down on Thunderbolt's power because Magneton outspeeds.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Magneton Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Braviary: 396-468 (98 - 115.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-o-Wisp
- Foul Play

- Sleep Talk / Substitute / Protect

Role: Check

Spiritomb has enough bulk to take even a +2 Brave Bird from full HP, and only is OHKOed 1 out of 8 times if at +3. The kicker here is Infiltrator, which lets it push Will-o-Wisp past Substitute and cripple the eagle. Foul Play is the most damaging move Spiritomb can use against Braviary. If you happen to slash Snarl or Memento, do not use them here, though, as both moves will activate Defiant.

Because Quagsire has Unaware, it bypasses all of Braviary's boosts, making Brave Bird do the same damage and never improve. It also Curses along Braviary, winning 1v1.

Virizion is a cool check, which can switch on every move Jolteon has bar HP Ice, taking a low damage thanks to his high spdef bulk. It also uses Jolteon as a setup fodder, and if it gets a boost in late game it can be really problematic for the opposing team. It also surprise the opposite team because he has 2 viable sets: SD and CM. Pairing him with an Amoonguss lure lets him sweep with more ease.

Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Seismic Toss

I wanted to go with something a bit different this week, so here we have Registeel. Registeel can sponge any of Jolteon's attacks, lay down rocks to discourage Volt Switch spam, Seismic Toss for a 3HKO, Protect for an extra turn of Leftovers recovery and to block Volt Switch, or Toxic to hit either Jolteon or expected switch-ins. The best Jolteon can hope for is a 10% paralysis off of Thunderbolt and for Registeel to lose multiple turns due to paralysis. Given the low chances of this, I think all of this is enough to consider Registeel a counter.

Registeel Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Jolteon: 100-100 (36.9 - 36.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

This guy makes for an excellent switch-in to Jolteon, being immune to Electric and taking all of Jolteon's moves with ease, and being able to threaten back with Scald, either 3HKOing or 4HKOing depending on Scald burns. Probably the most important thing with checking Jolteon is killing its momentum, so Pokemon like Seismitoad, Lanturn, Gastrodon, and Mega Camerupt are going to make the best checks imo.

Calcs:

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 104 HP / 212+ SpD Lanturn: 84-100 (20.1 - 23.9%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Water vs. 104 HP / 212+ SpD Lanturn: 34-40 (8.1 - 9.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Lanturn Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jolteon: 72-85 (26.5 - 31.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Steelix for Counter

Mega Steelix here is a counter, in a worst case scenario, Steelix is taking less than 60% on a crit and can still survive a 2nd non crit shot. But for Steelix to be most effective here, switch him in on a volt switch and then just mega up and EQ, or because of the forced switch, set up rocks.

Steelix > Jolteon

16 Atk Mega Steelix Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 398-470 (146.8 - 173.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
16 Atk Mega Steelix Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 119-141 (43.9 - 52%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO

Jolteon > Steelix

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Water vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Mega Steelix: 114-135 (32.4 - 38.4%) -- 97.5% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Water vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Mega Steelix on a critical hit: 172-203 (49 - 57.8%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO

Escavalier @ Assault Vest
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Knock Off / Drill Run

Role: Counter (or at worst, hard check)

Jolteon's most damaging move, Thunderbolt, does 37.9% max to Assault Vest Escavalier, which means it needs Stealth Rock and a layer of Spikes to even have a chance to 2HKO (and even then, it's a 1.2% chance). Meanwhile, Megahorn and Drill Run are both OHKOs on Jolteon, and Pursuit does some good damage as well.

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 109-130 (31.7 - 37.9%) -- 92.6% chance to 3HKO, 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

176+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 316-373 (116.6 - 137.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
176+ Atk Escavalier Drill Run vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 282-332 (104 - 122.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
176+ Atk Escavalier Pursuit (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 141-166 (52 - 61.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gastrodon: 112-133 (26.2 - 31.2%) -- 8.8% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gastrodon: 90-107 (21.1 - 25.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Gastrodon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jolteon: 188-224 (69.3 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Volt Switch
- Knock Off
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower

The strongest attack Jolteon has for Eel is signal beam, which does less than 25%. In return Eel can knock off the life orb off Jolt and kill with two giga drains, recovering some health in the process.

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Eelektross: 77-91 (20.5 - 24.3%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

0 Atk Eelektross Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Jolteon: 119-140 (43.9 - 51.6%) -- 10.5% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Eelektross Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jolteon: 81-96 (29.8 - 35.4%) -- 27.5% chance to 3HKO

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic / Icicle Spear

Piloswine is quite a decent mon in the current metagame as it is able to check many scary Pokemon such as Flygon and Glalie extremely well (also the best at setting up rocks vs Flygon). A spdef set is really effective against Pokemon such as Sigilyph and Houndoom as well and obviously it can handle Jolteon fine. The EVs are for a jump point in Spdef and rest is in attack to hit harder. Toxic is preferred to cripple Alomomola but Icicle Spear is nice vs Amoonguss and Golbat among others. This also isnt worthless vs Rotom-C since you can do a bit with Ice Shard as well so yeah its nice vs Electric-types.

252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Water vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Piloswine: 104-125 (25.7 - 30.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Piloswine: 27-32 (6.6 - 7.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Eviolite Piloswine: 66-78 (16.3 - 19.3%) -- possible 6HKO
