Stallbreaker Gengar

couldn't really add much more onto what S18 has said and this is the best option in my eyes.

stallbreaker gengar

rising in usage and the two have defensive excellent synergy (not to mention that mega ampharos sets up on gengar's c&c like Mandibuzz)

Explanation: I think if we[ go with Politoed, it really restricts team building wise because rain is very cookie cutter and the final result won't be much different from any other rain team out there. If we go with Politoed the team will end up looking something like Politoed / Ampharos / Kabutops / Ferrothorn / Tornadus-T / filler. Which is pretty much standard rain. This project is meant to be promote creativity, Politoed goes against that notion and idea.

It's true that rain teams seem cookie-cutter and might make for boring team building, but I feel like if you aren't using rain then you aren't really bringing out sweeper Ampharos's full potential. It's useful for rain by being able to set up on Thundurus and beat other electric types without having to resort to shit like seismitoad or having to go to Ferrothorn every time that they show up so you can still keep some momentum. It can also actually use thunder which it desperately needs considering how weak it is. I mean if you aren't using rain wouldn't you much rather have bulky charx ddance? It also checks electric types, is stronger by a good amount, and is much harder to wall. idk going the stall breaker gengar route seems like youre just going to end up with an inferior team that doesnt play to all of ampharos's strengths within the agility set. There's still room for some creativity in rain, and the only other pokemon i feel thats absolutely necessary with poli/amph is kabutops so theres gonna be at least 3 other slots to do cool stuff with.

Rest-Talk Politoed

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip

Checks most Dragon-types that force out Ampharos and makes fun out of the Lati twins, while being able to consistently keep SR up against them. Checks most Pokemon that outspeed Gengar such as Scarf Excadrill, Scarf Garchomp, Greninja, Scarf Lando-T, Deoxys-S, and Thundurus, and checks most of the Pokemon that trouble Mega Ampharos, such as most scarfers, and Pokemon that win 1 v 1 against it in a case of a double switch (BD Azumarill, Excadrill, Garchomp, Landorus-T, Greninja, Latios, Latias, Kyurem-B, Hippowdon, Mamoswine). Ferrothorn also attracts Fire and Steel-types for Mega Ampharos to set up on, such as Skarmory, Mega Scizor, Talonflame, and Mega Charizard Y. Gengar can also soft check or take advantage of many of the Pokemon that scare Ferrothorn out, such as Specs Keldeo locked into Secret Sword (scout with Protect and then go to Gengar), Terrakion using Close Combat, Landorus using Earth Power or Focus Blast, and Breloom using Mach Punch.

Excellent SR setter that fits like a glove to our current team, thanks to great type synergy.

Right so things that currently threaten this core include fast dragons, ground types (especially Excadrill), and to an extent, steels (Ampharos has to rely on Focus Blast, while Gengar can only passively wear them down. So anyways, might as well go with something that can handle most of these threats.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Thick Fat
252 Atk / 4 def / 252 spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, - SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off

So I picked Mamoswine because he handles many of the threats that can crap on what we have so far. He takes care of any grounds through the use of Icicle Crash, and Ice Shard. Slower Steels that don't rely on Steel STAB (think defensive Heatran (who forces Amphy to rely on a shaky Focus Blast while doing barely anything with his other moves)) can be handled by Earthquake. This set is also able to check many of the dragons and flying types in OU, sporting the most powerful Ice Shard in the game. If prior damage has been taken, not even a Weakness Policy Dragon Danced Dragonite can stand a chance thanks to Extreme Speed not OHKOin while OHKOing in return with Ice Shard. This also applies to things like Lando - I, Garchomp, and to an extent, Lando - T (Intimidate is a bitch though). The last move goes to Knock Off, as Mamoswine gets enough coverage already with Ground/Ice STAB, and is also able to force switches thanks to his great offensive presence and removes items in the process.

Mamoswine also works well with Gengar and Amphy, as Gengar can come in on a fighting or grass type move aimed at Mamo, while the grass, water, and steel weaknesses (mainly Scizor and Excadrill) are covered by Ampharos. Mamoswine can come in on an ice move aimed at Amphy thanks to Thick Fat, as he gains a pseudo resist.

If we go down this route, then something that can handle Excadrill is sort of a must.

I think we should be focusing on supporting Ampharos then just adding offense. Politoed was a really good suggestion. A Rain HO team with Bisharp is what I'm thinking ;)

Deoxys-D | Mental Herb | Pressure
Timid | 252 HP / 40 Atk / 212 Spe
Stealth Rock | Spikes | Thunder Wave / Taunt | Superpower

Deoxys-D seems like the way to go. It promotes KOs on Mega Ampharos and while also removing Bisharp turn 1 which wrecks most teams and can revenge kill Mega Ampharos (easier done with no recovery) with its powerful Sucker Punch when weakened. That's is also the only priority user that can revenge kill as it resists Brave Bird, Aqua Jet, and Bullet Punch. It even stops opposing leads with Taunt which makes MAmphy take less damage so it can sweep more successfully. It also gives us more choice during team building because Keldeo and Bisharp can put immense pressure on stall teams which seems like the problem people are discussing with things like UtilGar being discussed.
Might as well nominate this again because we have Gengar to spinblock Excadrill and Bisharp being removed makes Gengar's life much easier. Hazards makes Gengar's Shadow Ball much more threatening as well against stall teams as well as balanced.
