Voting has concluded that and RKOtaku has won with his :custap berry: SD set! Congrats for winning and your submission will be added to the HoF eventually! Now let’s move on to the next cycle.

Cycle 63 - Tornadus-Therian
:ss/tornadus-therian:
We are having another redo this cycle since it will be almost a year since we last did this mon in a couple months. Undoubtedly one of the best pivots in the tier with great coverage moves such as heat wave, knock, and focus blast. It is the premier bird in the tier with the ability to defog on most rockers and pivoting out to something to revenge. With the addition of hdb it is almost impossible to kill this mon long term since it has access to regenerator. AV is also a rising star to check the likes of dragapult.

Reserving Nasty Plot

Nasty Plot
:ss/tornadus-therian:

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots :heavy-duty boots:
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
(IVs: 0 Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Hurricane / Air Slash
- Focus Blast / Heat Wave
- U-Turn / Knock Off / Sludge Wave / Heat Wave

The Classic Nasty Plot 3 Attacks set.

Nasty Plot turns Tornadus into a fast and renewable offensive sweeper with a nice movepool. Hurricane and Air Slash are interchangeable STABs-- Hurricane foregoes accuracy for higher power, and vise-versa for Air Slash. Focus Blast is Tornadus's method of breaking Blissey, Heatran, AV Melmetal, and Tyranitar after Nasty Plot. U-Turn Gives Tornadus momentum on would-be walls, while Knock Off can punish them. Sludge Wave and Heat Wave are optional substitutes in its tertiary and quaternary slots. Heat Wave allows Tornadus to hit bulky Steel-types with more accuracy, however, if used over Focus Blast it will forego Tornadus's ability to break Blissey, Heatran, and Tyranitar. Sludge Wave is a bait for Tapu Koko, which can switch into Tornadus's STABs and coverage easily to then force it out. If used in a set with Heat Wave, however, Tornadus will be entirely passive in the face of its walls.

Yeah this is probably more like an analysis but I have no idea what to do when there are like 6 optional slots

Tornadus-T’s pretty insane movepool is on full display with this set, as Flying, Fire, and Fighting all have perfect coverage. Superpower is chosen over Focus Blast due to better accuracy and it nukes Blissey, Tyranitar, and specially defensive Heatran. U-turn let’s it safely pivot out if it doesn’t want to bother with predictions. Life Orb is affordable here too to boost its power and it has Regenerator.
88 Atk Life Orb Tornadus-Therian Superpower over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 390-461 (101 - 119.4%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns after Leftovers recovery
88 Atk Life Orb Tornadus-Therian Superpower over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 741-876 (103.7 - 122.6%) -- guaranteed KO in 2 turns
88 Atk Life Orb Tornadus-Therian Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tyranitar: 452-536 (111.8 - 132.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 56+ SpD Clefable: 195-230 (49.4 - 58.3%) -- 65.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 112 SpD Toxapex: 142-168 (46.7 - 55.2%) -- 62.5% chance to 2HKO

Toxic + Taunt

:ss/tornadus-therian:
Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
Timid Nature

- Toxic
- Taunt

- Knock Off
- Hurricane

So, this is a set I used a while back to annoy defoggers and keep hazards up, including opposing Defog Tornadus-T who get outsped with these EVs. The combination of Taunt, Toxic and Knock Off is really obnoxious to deal with for every Defogger out there, including Corviknight, who won't deal much damage back with its usual set and won't be able to Roost off the accumulated chip damage. Heat Wave is a shout in the last slot to pressure Corviknight even more, alongside the plethora of Steel types that aren't named Heatran. Hurricane, however, is generally better at handling everything else (Urshifu-R and Landorus-T being stand out targets) and does more reliable damage overall.
The main gist of the set is that Knock Off and Toxic are really annoying for its usual switchins, while Taunt keeps the opposing Pokémon from annoying your Tornadus-T and your side of the field. This obviously fits into hazard stacking teams, by providing something that can prevent hazards from being removed or set by your opponent. Give this a try for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Tornadus-Therian @ Flame Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Thief
- U-turn
- Fling

Here we have an annoyer version of Tornadus-T with the combination of FlingxFlame Orb and Thief to steal the item from the opponent.
If you fish a bad item, you can keep it or fling it away.

Flame Orb is a tricky choice for the item, but you can use the burn to protect yourself from a worse status (i.e. poison) while keeping under check the hp lost with Regenerator. Also, Flame Orb burn the target, so a target will have half of its Atk to work with before modifiers/healers.

U-turn is the standard move to keep the momentum while using Regenerator effectively; Hurricane is the classic Flying STAB that trades accuracy for power.

This is awesome and hilarious! I feel like Toxic Orb is potentially as good (could be a slash maybe since this is a pretty unique set anyways)- Toxic does less damage than Burn for the first turn, and Torn often will U-Turn out (or hard switch) right after anyways. Plus, being able to nail a switchin like Zapdos with Toxic is quite a bit nicer than a Burn (or even a regular poison).

Burn was nerfed last gen, and now it deals as much damage as the first turn of bad poison. If you wanna badly poison stuff with Tornadus, skip the self-damaging single-use middle man of Fling Toxic Orb and just use the move Toxic.

....How did I forget Torn-T gets Toxic? I even said to myself "wow, I forgot Torn-T doesn't get Toxic." Nice.

Thanks for the catch!

Torn-T throughout the ages has been a very versatile pokemon. Not much thought has gone into it as a whole either it's usually utilised as a wall breaker with nasty plot or a regen defensive pivot.
The idea behind this set is to lure in switch ins, bluff hurricane and keep your sleeves full of surprises. Sludge Wave and Heat Wave are your primary methods of punishing common switch ins and removing pokemon such as Tapu Koko and revenge killing Kartana.
Icy Wind is to deal with Lando-T thinking it can get an easy toxic, as well as punishing pokemon such as Dragonite from setting up DDs vs Torn, as well as smacking Garchomp and Zapdos with entry hazards support.
Last move is up to your preference and depends on the team really, U-turn is nice to grab momentum vs Pex, Clef, etc. Knock is good support and helps removes boots and fits nicely with hazard stack, Toxic suits more bulkier teams. Focus Blast is for likes of Ttar and Heatran which would like to pivot in. Psychic 2HKOs defensive Toxapex, Nasty Plot is if you really want to just break but it isn't too good for this type of set, Taunt is nice for stall breaking, preventing defog or rocks going up. Like I said, it depends on the team and personal preference.

- Taunt / Knock Off

Old ORAS classic set - I'd really like to use this in SS but being shut down completely by Tapu Koko and Zapdos has made it too difficult to fit so far. I believe this is the best moveset for it in this meta, with Superpower chosen over Focus Blast to be able to 2HKO Blissey while still hitting Tyranitar and Heatran hard enough. Taunt lets you beat some defensive Pokemon like Toxapex, while Knock Off is better for punishing Tapu Koko and Zapdos. While usually Life Orb + Stealth Rock damage is unappealing, Regenerator helps that a bit.

Combining HDB with Regenerator Tornadus-T can take low damage from U-Turn, Body Press or even Scald, getting free setup against many variants of Landorus-T, Garchomp, Corviknight and others while preventing recovery/Toxic with Taunt and using Nasty Plot to break down walls.
Edit: 8 EVs on HP = 301 = Hold up to 3 Seismic Toss.

Ok so basically this set is used to lure in special walls that were predicting some form of NP set, set up a Bulk Up and then hit something reasonably hard. Acrobatics+No item (RIP HDB) is for 110 BP STAB, Knock Off is always useful to have, and Superpower hits spdef mons such as Blissey, Heatran and Ttar hard.

  • +1 252 Atk Tornadus-Therian Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 180-212 (45.6 - 53.8%) -- 41.8% chance to 2HKO
