Kommo-o @ Salac Berry
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Belly Drum
- Endure
- Reversal
- Earthquake

Late game high risk cleaner Kommo-o. BD on a switch then Endure the fairy switch, then salac reversal to kill everything that doesnt have priority. Togekiss dies after rocks (~80% max HP) and clef/pex just dies.Quake for the Rocky Barboas out there and non sneaky Aegislash. Yes this loses to jet/mach/sneak/sucker etc but just dont set up until those are gone. And if the opp has Drifblim you've been counterteamed and never stood a chance.

Special Autotomize

Kommo-o @ Life Orb
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Autotomize
- Clanging Scales
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon

The worst part about Clangorous Soul Kommo-o imo is that it's pretty slow, meaning stuff like Scarf Hydreigon can revenge kill it easily. This special Autotomize set plays very similarly, trading some power for more speed, and the ability to pressure foes before a boost better. The EV spread allows you to outspeed up to Scarf Keldeo (or Modest Venusaur under Sun) after a boost, and while the loss in power is notable, Kommo-o's pretty good coverage is still enough to adequately pressure everything, still 2HKOing Toxapex and Clefable. The greater initial power from the Life Orb + Modest lets you play as a bit of a breaker in situations where the speed boost isn't as needed, as Kommo-o can still hit defensive cores decently well with its coverage and some good prediction. So yeah this is definitely an alternative for if you want a better matchup against offenses.

Reserving specs

Kommo-o @ Choice Specs
Ability: Bulletproof / Soundproof
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Clanging Scales / Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower

Kommo-o has as much Special Attack as Dragapult, and while it definitely doesn't have Dragapult's ridiculous Speed tier it boasts much better bulk and one of two incredibly potent defensive abilities. This makes it surprisingly durable, which therefore gives it plenty of opportunities to throw out some extremely strong hits and punch gaping holes in your opponent's defensive backbone. With good prediction and Stealth Rock up Specs Kommo-o can 2HKO the entire tier.

Focus Blast it its hardest-hitting STAB that isn't Draco Meteor, and requires a bit less prediction to utilize compared to Flamethrower. You'll find that both Flamethrower and Focus Blast do similar damage to their intended targets, but Flamethrower offers some decent coverage against Aegislash. Clanging Scales is incredibly consistent and its drawbacks are far milder than Draco Meteor's, but the latter might score a handful of crucial OHKOs after Stealth Rock damage every so often. Flash Cannon deals with the Fairy-types Kommo-o so greatly detests, having a noticeable chance of 2HKOing the most specially-defensive Clefable sets and having a good chance of 2HKOing SpDef Sylveon after Stealth Rock damage.

To put this thing's breaking power into perspective, it would be able to 2HKO standard Chansey after Stealth Rock damage. Chansey isn't available yet (we know it's coming with the DLC though), but being able to 2HKO something notorious for being incredibly difficult to kill with a Special attack puts into perspective just how insanely hard it can hit. Nothing in the current SwSh metagame is truly safe from a 2HKO if the Kommo-o user is incredibly aggressive.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 186-220 (47.2 - 55.8%) -- 22.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Toxapex: 181-214 (59.5 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 232+ SpD Ferrothorn: 356-420 (101.1 - 119.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Focus Blast does the exact same amount)

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 196+ SpD Corviknight: 228-268 (57 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (Same deal here; Flamethrower does the exact same amount)

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 28 SpD Seismitoad: 301-355 (72.7 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Clanging Scales vs. 252 HP / 144 SpD Hippowdon: 270-318 (64.2 - 75.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 104+ SpD Snorlax: 408-482 (77.8 - 91.9%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 148+ SpD Milotic: 178-211 (45.1 - 53.5%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 188+ SpD Jirachi: 204-242 (50.6 - 60%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kommo-o Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aegislash-Shield: 154-182 (47.5 - 56.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Reserving bulky sub sd

1583230705107.gif

Armor 20 (Kommo-o) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof / Soundproof
EVs: 180 HP / 216 Def / 96 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake / Fire Punch
- Drain Punch

Say hello to my favorite set I’ve made in gen 8, bulky sub sd kommo-o. Kommo-o’s excellent defensive typing and bulk let’s it set up on a large majority of common defensive Pokémon in the current meta, such as the rotom formes, mandibuzz and ferrothorn, giving it numerous opportunities to set up a sub and start boosting.

Substitute is the crux of this set, allowing kommo-o to take advantage of the numerous switches it forces as well as preventing kommo-o from being inflicted with crippling status giving it ample set up opportunities. Earthquake provides good neutral coverage hitting pex and dragapult hard, while fire punch smacks corviknight and venusaur. Iron head and thunder punch are also viable options, hitting fairies and both corvi and pex in exchange for some neutral coverage.

The ev spread is made to optimize kommo-o’s overall bulk while outspeeding crawdaunt. However, if this ev spread isn’t intricate enough for you, use these. You outspeed neutral nature aegislash and clefable, 2hko spdef clef, and prevent earth power seismitoad from breaking your sub, all while hitting a jump point in defense and a leftovers number (I have no life).

Have fun

Choice Scarf Kommo-o

Kommo-o @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Outrage
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Flamethrower

General idea
252 Spe+ with a Choice Scarf equipped allows this Kommo-o to reach 442 Spe points as it enters onto the battlefield.
This way you can punish some threats that normally outspeed your dragon with thi mixed set in order to use the good coverage moves it can run.
Outrage + Close Combat is the dual STAB combo chosen for its wallbreaking power; in some occasion Kommo-o can use Close Combat even twice in a row. Iron Head + Flamethrower are here for coverage. Simple set, but unexpected.

Team(mates) support
Kommo-o need Fairy types out of the picture because it takes 4x from Fairy moves and this type resists or is immune to its dual STAB combo.

Reserving Assault Vest

Kommo-o @ Assault Vest
Ability: Bulletproof
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 196 SpD / 64 Spe
Careful Nature
- Drain Punch
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab

This Kommo-o is designed to make both run of the mill special attackers (that aren't fairy or ice inclined), and the two big dragons (LO/Scarf hydra + wowhex/specs/scarf Dragapult) sad. Kommo-o is a surprisingly bulky pokemon, as highlighted by the popularity of the defensive set. This set takes advantage of its natural physical bulk and boosts its solid special bulk as well.

Drain Punch is used over Body Press despite doing less damage because having a source of healing is crucial, and allows Kommo-o to avoid some 2HKOs through the healing Drain Punch provides. Dragon Tail is great for phazing any Pokemon that Kommo-o does not enjoy, and can be used against predicted switches to rack up damage. For this reason, it is recommended that you run both rocks and spikes with this mon. Earthquake allows you to hit Pex (though you don't do much), and is nice coverage. Poison Jab is for those pesky fairies and I dunno, rotom-mow I guess.

Here are the fun calcs which this set was built around.

These are the most relevant

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 278-330 (78.7 - 93.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 283-335 (80.1 - 94.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 196-232 (55.5 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Pixilate Sylveon Hyper Voice vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 244-292 (69.1 - 82.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

These are less relevant
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Kommo-o: 171-202 (48.4 - 57.2%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO (not after drain punch)
252+ SpA Mantine Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 138-164 (39 - 46.4%) -- not a KO
252+ SpA Necrozma Photon Geyser vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 174-206 (49.2 - 58.3%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 35-43 (9.9 - 12.1%) -- possible 9HKO (the rest blocked by bulletproof)
252 SpA Choice Specs Punk Rock Toxtricity Boomburst vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 133-156 (37.6 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

You even have a chance to live

252 SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 196+ SpD Assault Vest Kommo-o: 336-396 (95.1 - 112.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Speed creep is to outspeed everything up to the rare adamant max speed Tyranitar. More importantly, it outspeeds both neutral natured max speed Aegislash and Clefable. Everything else is put into SpDef, and HP for maximum bulk.

Reserving SD 3 atks

Kommo-o @ Life Orb
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature/Adamant nature
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
- Iron Head/ Iron tail
- Swords Dance

Description
Swords dance allows kommo-o to break through the common balances and bulky teams in the current meta. Its allows kommo-o to beat pokemon that would normally be its checks such as aegislash, toxapex, corviknight, and clefable. This set has great wallbreaking and sweeping potential in one. other options for this set would be dragon claw over eq if you prefer STAB over coverage and iron tail which secures the ko on clefable unlike without needing chip at the cost of accuracy. if using adamant for extra power i recommend a form of speed control such as sticky web. adamant also secure some koes over jolly at the cost of kommo-o's decent speed tier. Stealth rock support is recommended as it helps kommo-o secure koes. Bulletproof is the ability of choice as it can let you setup on choice locked pokemon such as specs gengar or specs shadow ball from dragapult or aegislash and cinderace. soundproof is an option to setup on non-moonblast sylveon but generally has less utility than bullet proof.
Team options
Sticky webs works well with adamant swords dance kommo-o as it allievates the loss of the base 85 speed tier
Checks to revenge killers such as zeraora and dragapult are always nice as well as faster pokemon with super effective STAB moves such as togekiss, kyurem, etc. Stealth rock users such as seismitoad and clefable are good teammates as stealth rocks help kommo-o secure koes on a plethora of pokemon after one swords dance. Kommo-o also likes spikes support from ferrothorn even though its not mandatory it also helps kommo break through bulky pokemon like jellicent that can will-o-wisp after taking one hit. Something that can handle bulky mew such as specs aegislash or obstagoon help as its is one of the few pokemon that can take on kommo-o after a swords dance. If running dragon claw over earthquake toxapex and aegislash checks are needed such as dark types and psychic types such as hatterene for toxapex. life orb nasty plot hydreigon and kommo-o form a double dragon core that can break through each other's checks.
Below are some calcs(more may be added):

out of curiosity, anything that the Defense EVs in the 1st spread do that is notable compared to their absence in the 2nd spread

The voting ends now! By its results, the winner of the Cycle 7 is Substitute + Swords Dance by Proftreez . Congratulations! Your submission will be added to the Hall of Fame soon. And it's time to move towards the next Cycle!

Cycle Eight - Hydreigon
:ss/hydreigon:
Hydreigon has been posing a very huge threat ever since the beginning of the generation thanks to its newly gained access to Nasty Plot, great Special Attack, and various attacking options. Nasty Plot + 3 Attacks is the most frequently seen variant of Hydreigon, but Choice Scarf sets still appear from time to time. Hydreigon's movepool is actually very wide and allows it to perform way more interesting sets than just these two; I'd like you guys to post them here!

- Flash Cannon / Earth Power
- Dark Pulse
- Roost

Since the release of Gen8 there had always been a lack of defoggers which are ou viable, and there still not many defoggers around and i've decided to go with Hydreigon here as it has a decent speed tier, good typing and can check a multitude of pkmn aswell.
Defog is its first slot, allowing it to remove problematic hazards without egtting effected by Spikes / Toxic Spikes / Sticky Web and it's helpful against Stealth Rock too.
Hydreigon can run Flash Cannon for its 2nd slot as it can hit hatterene and Clefable or it can run Earth Power because it is a decent check to Bisharpas well, which is really good right now on rather offensive teams, as Hydreigons typing allows it to tank a Sucker Punch rather comfortably. Dark Pulse is Hydreigons stab here hitting a multitude of pkmn neutrally and the last slot is reserved for Roost to give it some longevity and speaking of longevity i gave it leftis so Hydreigon is able to perform its role as a defogger throughout the entire game reliably.
