[OU RMT] Jacks From All Trades and A Monkey.

TeamSynergy.png

Hi, I'm the Demon. I was having some decent success on Shoddy Battle with a team I formed yesterday and I decided to finally come onto the smogon forums and do a RMT. I'm not really into changing the Pokemon but am looking for any improvements that can be made. I used Smogon to find the pokemon that best suited my style since I'm not confident in my creativity of making UU/NU work in OU.

¤Team Building¤

I wanted to base my team around a starter pokemon, it was between Charizard, Sceptile, Swampert, Empoleon and Infernape. I picked the one I used last in the games which was Infernape. It's the Nasty Plot version, I plan to use him mid late game.

I then wanted my lead. Since Infernape is gonna be one of my main sweepers it would help if he had SR support, which Aerodactyl usually gets right away before going down.

I then needed a spinblocker. I decided on Gengar since he's such an awesome Special Sweeper and Revenger plus the substitute variation is awesome. Plus he's one of my favourite Pokemon of all time.

After reading on smogon on how well Aero and Gengar paired up with Magnezone, I decided to get the awesome steel killer for myself.

I then wanted my own spinner and decided on LO Starmie since it pairs up with Infernape. Aanother special sweeper though...

I then checked on the types of pokemon I was missing and came up with Weavile Mamoswine and Flygon. I couldn't find Weavile's Low Kick so I dropped him, Mamoswine has to many common weaknesses with my team and in general imo, so I took CS Flygon which does nicely with Infernape. I miss Garchomp though ._.

Ah 3 pokemon just got replaced, wtf happened? Well what I didn't like about my team was that it was all sweeping, there wasn't any utility, and Starmie and Gengar were pretty frail. So I replaced them with Defensive Rotom C and Toxic Spiker + Spinner Tentacruel. Also since I don't really like having Pokemon of the same type I decided to get rid of the Steel Killer for one of the many Steel's he killed: Scizor. CB Scizor to be exact. I also changed the variation of my Infernape to Specially Based Mixape.

Aerodactyl.jpg

Ptera (Aerodactyl)(M) @ Focus Sash
Ability - Pressure
4 HP | 252 ATK | 252 SPD
Jolly Nature [+Speed, -Special Attack]
Moveset: Stealth Rock, Taunt, Rock Slide, Earthquake

Its goal is to set up a Stealth Rock which helps all potential sweeps I may carry out. With Taunt I can stop others from doing the same with the exception of another Aerodactyl since the speed tie is based on luck. If I lose the tie I will proceed to KO the other Aerodactyl. If I win I would proceed to Stealth Rock and switch out to Rotom or Flygon to get my KO. I like to save Aerodactyl for a bit as a free switch in by having it faint later on or use it to get a revenge kill. Of course I would have sent out my spinner before the latter scenario. Tentacruel is also a switch in on a few lead pokemon so I can further set up TS.

Rotom_Invasion_by_Gotzon.jpg

Rotomu Mow (Rotom - C)(U) @ Leftovers
Ability - Levitate
252 HP | 168 DEF | 90 SPD
Bold Nature [+Defense, -Attack]
Moveset: Discharge, Will-o-Wisp, Shadow Ball, Leaf Storm

I usually switch in Rotom since it has many resistances to Pokemon who appear early in the game and can score some KOs on lead Pokemon Aerodactyl can't after laying down SR, such as Swampert. By switching in on cases like this I spook the opponent and can either go for the dmage or WoW the switch in. I have trouble if WoW misses, Discharge fails to paralyze faster pokemon, or Leaf Storm has a meaningless use. Most scenarios cause for a switch to a suitable replacement usually being Flygon.

Furaigon (Flygon)(F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability - Levitate
252 Atk | 252 SPD | 4 SDEF
Adamant Nature [+Attack, -S.Attack]
Moveset: Earthquake, Stone Edge, Outrage, U-turn

The revenger and trusty C-Scarf Sweeper. Can come in on its immunities and resistances. Earthquake and Stone Edge have alot of coverage like Aerodactyl, I can also Outrage does neutral damage to most pokemon and SE damage to Pokemon like Dragonite. Once I'm out of the lock I switch to get rid of the confusion. I can also scout with U-Turn. Ice Beam is not a problem since I have quite a few pokemon who resist it. Like Tentacruel.

Tentacruel_Surfwrecked_by_Xetak6.png

Dokukurage (Tentacruel)(F) @ Black Sludge
Ability - Liquid Ooze
252 HP | 122 DEF | 136 SDEF
Calm Nature [+S.Defense, -Attack]
Moveset: Surf, Toxic Spikes, Sludge Bomb, Rapid Spin

Tentacruel has everything Starmie has and more. Rapid Spin, Toxic Spikes for another opening hazard with SR and poison. Most of all is that Tentacruel is pretty bulky. Sludge Bomb and Surf give it its 2 stab attacks. I might decide to switch Sludge Bomb for Knock off, but with it I do pretty well against Breloom who after they spore one of my other pokemon I can come on the leech seed and sludge bomb away. Anyone dumb enough to trick Tentacruel can eat on Black Sludge.

Scizor_used_Night_Slash_by_purplekecleon.png

Hassamu (Scizor)(M) @ Choice Band
Ability - Technician
248 HP | 252 ATK | 8 SPD
Adamant Nature [+Attack, -S.Attack]
Moveset: Bullet Punch, Superpower, U-Turn, Pursuit

Choice Band Scizor gives me 4 attacks with 50% more attack power. bullet Punch takes out damaged pokemon from Stealth Rock or failed KOs, like Gyrados, Dragonite, Tyranitar, etc. Superpower to get rid of other steels, of course I'll have to switch after due to the stat decrease. U-turn is another STAB move of Scizor, does well for scouting for Magnezone, however I tend to use Scizor near the end like after i have seen 4 or more Pokemon from the opponent. I haven't really found a use for Pursuit other than Rotom. Bullet Punch KOs every other ghost. Its like they know they're dead wither way, and wish to attack and do some damage before I send them away to Nurse Joy. Scizor Flygon and Infernape actually do pretty well with each other. My offensive trio of doom.

_All_Fired_Up__Infernape_by_endless_whispers.png

Goukazaru (Infernape)(M) @ Life Orb
Ability - Blaze
66 ATK | 192 SPD | 252 S.ATK
Naive Nature [+Speed, -S.Defense]
Moveset: Fire Blast, Close Combat, Grass Knot, Hidden Power Ice

The mid game, late game sweeper, once everything is set up nicely Infernape is pretty awesome to have around. Especially specially based mixedape. Super effective damage on so many of todays OU Pokemon. I'm thinking of replacing FB for Flamethrower, since the accuracy is shakey for me, is the damage that big of a diff? CC hits all steels in OU that can take a FB/FT, like Heatran and Empoleon. Grass Knot is another hit against Swampert if I don't have Rotom. Ice KOs the pesky dragons and Gliscor if the others haven't KOed them already. There is hardly anything that can come in safe. Choice Scarfers don't threat me since they'll usually go for the Earth techs which I have Fly and Rotom for. Psychic is taken by Scizor, as well as fliers.

I tend to play by scouting the opponent with switches to Pokemon of a preferable type advantage. I feel everyone has someone safe they can go to if facing a potential threat. I use this to keep the oppenent guessing as well as wasting away in front of hazards and status before I have Flygon, Scizor and Infenape preform the sweeps. This team is to my preferences as they are all different types, have use, and are pretty cool.

Very very very quick rate, uh I'm not sure what Tentacruel is doing for your team - Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin support aren't all that necessay and the rest of the team doesn't really abuse them. I would like to suggest Bulky Gyarados in place of Tentacruel, which lets you still check Infernape and Heatran but helps out with your SD Lucario and DD Dragonite weakness.

The spread on the analysis should suffice:

Gyarados@Leftovers
Adamant Nature; 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge

You also have problems with SubPetaya Empoleon and Agility Metagross from what I can tell (Rotom isn't sticking around too long with no recovery). One easy solution would be to change Flygon's nature to Jolly. The 10% power loss is more than offset by the fact that you can outspeed these duo even at +2 and KO them with Earthquake.

All the best.

Hmm it depends. Flygon still out speeds both when they Agility once. So I can hit the STAB EQ on either one for the KO. For Empoleon it depends if they have Ice Beam, if I break their sub with Flygon he could just KO me with my 4x weakness. So I'll have to break the Substitute first before I do anything rash. I'd usually manage to get the KO even if they set up due to more Speed from Infernape for Luke, and Scizor's BP on Dragonite. Flygon can also use a STAB both. Does Extreme Speed do that much? o_0. Either way I'm not stupid enough to let them set up. This is my main sweeping trio.

For Tentacruel the damage from TS is just there, not that necessary like you said lol. Though I've developed a hatred for Breloom recently so I just put one of my guys to sleep switch on the substitute, break it with a U-turn from Flygon, and STAB it with Tentacruel's Sludge Bomb. I could also use Infernape but I tend to keep him a secret along with Scizor. ._.

Hmm I have a theme fetish going where I don't want anything of the same type and want them to be dual types. Though I don't mind the latter since a lot of single types are cool. Kind of thinking of getting an Aromatherapy Blissy. Still gonna try the Gyrados out though, maybe I'll like it that I go over these dumb limits. Plus its just such an awesome Pokemon, always had one in the games, I'd usually just buy the Karp from the seller instead of fishing.

I have to agree with what Shimrit suggested, a well played Lucario can potentially sweep through your team with little ease.

Also, your Rotom ev spread needs more speed to be able to handle Adamant Lucario and Timid max speed Suicune. With an ev spread of 40 Hp / 216 SpA / 248 Spe Rotom will outrun Suicune and you can handle it a lot better.

If you insist on running Tentacruel, change Black Sludge to lefties, as when they trick you, they can just trick Black Sludge onto something else.

Hi there, this team is pretty cool but I think it could use some help. First of all I highly recommend dropping Tentacruel since if you are using primarily for Rapid Spinning and then just like "oh cool it has toxic spikes too" then Starmie is a much better option. Starmie is more offensive and to be honest Skarmory has a ridiculously easy time setting up Spikes on your team.

Starmie @ Life Orb | 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | Timid
Surf / Thunderbolt / Ice Beam / Rapid Spin

However, if you do keep Tentacruel, I suggest changing the item to Leftovers, while Black Sludge seems like a good option, it can actually cause you harm if your opponent tricks Black Sludge onto an important pokemon of yours, like Infernape or Flygon.

Also if you do keep Tentacruel for Toxic Spikes, I would change Discharge to Thunderbolt on Rotom so you dont accidentally Paralyze something like Scizor and can then burn it. In fact SubPainSplit Rotom-A is an excellent abuser of Toxic Spikes. I've been using it myself lately and I have to say I am really impressed with it.

Rotom-C @ Leftovers | 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 Spe | Timid Nature
Substitute | Pain Split | Will-O-Wisp | Thunderbolt

Come in on something like Gyarados, set up a sub, then if they switch in like Tyranitar, you burn it, if they do Gengar, you tbolt it. Pretty cool set and it forces a lot of switches.

Lastly, I suggest Flygon run Jolly so you speed tie with other scarf base 100s, like Jirachi and other Flygon.

Thats all I have for you so far, good luck. :)
