What is the rule on Rapid Spinning when your Pokémon faints when using it? Most of the time the hazards stay where they are but a few times I've seen them get cleared out.

If your Pokemon faints due to recoil when using the move Rapid Spin, hazards stay up on the field. This is why Rocky Helmet Ferrothorn is such a great counter to Starmie, as factoring in switching into entry hazards, LO recoil, Iron Barbs damage, and Rocky Helmet, Starmie can't really spin against Ferrothorn at all. Same with Rocky Helmet Chomp vs. Forretress (although Forretress is a lot harder to wear down than Starmie).

Hazards would only be cleared if you Rapid Spin user doesn't get KOd while using the move Rapid Spin.

Personally, I'd say it depends less on the set and more on how you're playing. Are you more of an offensive-minded player and want to grab quick KOs guaranteed? Go with Fire Blast. Do you prefer to play cautiously, not necessarily going all-out at first? Use Fiery Dance. In today's metagame, I personally believe Fire Blast is the better option (why why why WHY do people run Fiery Dance on max/max Volcarona?), but Fiery Dance can still be very effective.

Anyone know the set for Expert Belt Jirachi? I know its gotten pretty popular and I wanted to try it out for myself. Could you also explain the Evs for the set?

Thank you and much appreciated.

While it isn't the E belt set, I'm pretty sure this post explains it's EVs and moves very well.

You can also look at this RMT that uses mix Jirachi, maybe that will give you some insight.

Fire Blast allows you to kill Landorus, most Kyurem-B, other Volc, do a huge amount of damage to things like Specially Defensive Jirachi, and also take out things like Thundurus-T and Tornadus in one hit after SR under Rain.

@Simply, yes -- it is common to do this. It just so happens that physical Pokemon can break down special walls and special Pokemon can break down physical walls -- basically a physical and special sweeper help each other sweep.

Sun commonly runs Darmanitan/Victini + Venusaur. Usually, either Darmanitan/Victini ends up cleaning and Venusaur softens the opposing team, or the other way around.

Rain commonly runs Gyarados/Feraligatr + Thundurus-T. Thundurus-T nails the bulky Water-types that the two hate -- either can sweep easily.

There are many other examples -- mainly on heavy offense, which runs lots of sweepers -- but these are the most common ones off the top of my head.

Hello, heres a few questions I have. Thanks in advance to whomever answers.

-Whats the definitive pokemon amount for MOST serious tournaments/majors? Singles? Doubles? 4v4 6v6? I just want to focus on one team and play that.
-I haven't played in 4 years. Do we use Shoddy still? Or is the actual game the way to go?
-I'm all for online tournaments, but is where do I go to find local offline tournaments in my area? Does such a thing exist? They don't have to be official Pokemon events I just wanna play.

Hi there. Okay so I'd have to say Smogon Single (OU) is by far the most popular tier. No we do not use Shoddy anymore, we have a much better updated Pokemon simulator. play.pokemonshowdown.com is Smogon's official battle server. I'm not too sure about offline tournaments, but I think it depends where you live. People from Smogon do meet up occasionally, although I'm not sure if its for battling.

Hope that cleared a few things up, and welcome to Smogon

So single 6v6? Cool cool, and bet just downloaded that, and alright bet.

So is it a good idea to have a singles (OU) 6v6 team, and a VGC 4v4 Doubles team?

If you want to play both tiers there's no reason not to! As far as I know, most offline tournaments are Doubles since that is the Official Tournament Format laid out by the Pokemon Company. People do play Wifi singles pretty often though and you can ask for Wifi battles online in this thread. You can also play either Singles or Doubles on Pokemon Showdown! Hope I helped, happy battling!

Hey guys, I'm using a team with kyurem-black and i needed hazard control so I added starmie. While starmie is good and all, it didnt do much other then spinning for the team. So I'd like to try out espeon, problem is I don't really know how to use it well.
Basicly I don't want to always send it in vs a rocks user, they will just predict that and hit it on the switch. On the other hand if i overpredict rocks are there to stay since it only bounces them back. So thats a big problem for me.

Espeon is kind of a niche Pokemon, and to be honest I don't really like it. Offensive Analytic Starmie is a fantastic partner for Kyurem-B, and I feel that it does more than just spin, especially because of how it damages the team and weakens Kyurem-Bs counters so it can open up for a sweep. To be honest, Espeon isn't going to do much either if it is just thrown on a team, same thing with Forretress if you were thinking that. Forretress is even harder to spin with, and can make the situation harder. Personally, I would try a more offensive version of Starmie as that will probably fit the teams pace better, but if you really dislike it you can try Forretress, as it shares good synergy with Kyurem-B and also can set hazards of its own.

The team already has a cm life orb keldeo, which does the same thing as starmie. Hits the same things, so i figured like dual screens and hazard control would really benefit the team. Allowing kyurem to live even more hits because its a beast x3. Tho i might stick to starmie but im going to test espeon out too. Might end up being the better fit after all.

@TeraVoltage: I'd definitely stick with Starmie -- with Hydro Pump/Surf spam you'll be able to soften up the opponent's Water resistances such to a point that you can overwhelm assuming you're playing right. Rapid Spin is way more reliable than Magic Bounce, and Espeon sucks. With Kyurem-B handling most Electric-types I think you'll definitely be okay. I'm interested as to what Hidden Power you're running on Keldeo with this team -- Ghost? You might even want to consider SubCM considering what you've got on your team (just a random thought). That prevents annoying statuses and what have you.

I need a powerful special attacker on my team (sand offense) and latios seems like the obvious choice (I don't want keldeo, I am tired of using it on every ttar team I use). Would you recommend the LO or specs set? Both obviously have their own strengths, but is the power decrease for the LO set too noticable (with that I mean: does the LO set miss some important/common 2HKOs or OHKOs)?

I'd say Specs is better. LO doesn't really miss that many KOs but the ability to switch moves isn't terribly helpful for Latios, especially since you'll have the SpA drop from Draco Meteor weakening your moves anyway. The main advantage of LO Latios is actually the ability to heal with Roost. If this isn't why you're using it, but you still want a special attacker, I'd recommend you use Hydreigon instead - it can hit from the physical side too, and breaks walls well. It also gets wider coverage - for example, you can run Earthquake to OHKO Heatran even after the SpA drops from Meteor.

We don't know anything about Mega Pokémon other than the fact that they need the Mega Stone to do it and it only happens in battle. We can't really say whether they'll be competitively viable yet, but I think it would be a fair assumption to say yes.

So this might seem like a stupid question, but could someone explain the term "win condition" to me? I've seen it thrown around here and there and have never been sure exactly what it means.

A Win Condition is basically any situation that is likely to give you an opportunity to win. This term is commonly used on a setup sweeper such as Volcarona since, if you are able to get rid of its hard counters like Heatran and get a boost or two with it, you basically have the match won.
