Project OU Teambuilding Competition V9 (Done! See you all in Sun & Moon)

Yh keld is certainly an inherent threat to these types of builds (even if you use azu). The way my team handles it is checking no-scarf with av serp/diancie, and using hydreigon to encourage choice locked kelds to not click a water move, meaning dd lando can set-up in its face (or serp can grab a nice contrary speed boost y/y). I could have used azu (lati personally feels like it won't make the best member in a team like this but i could be wrong) but scald is a bitch and i wanted some speed on my team (diancie also is great with hydra and checks torn), so i decided i would just build my team to abuse Keldeo's move choice to get set-up opportunities

Team 4 by FlamingVictini have won this round. Congratulations, will be added to the hall of fame shortly.

With that being said it is time to move up to the next round

Round 28:

tornadus-therian.gif
+
tangrowth.gif

The premise behind these 2 is pretty simple, solid regenerator core that can cover a good amount of threats in the metagame. Both can fit on a plethora of different teams. Both provide solid cushions against keldeo, tornadus-t cover opposing grasses tangrowth cant like mega venusaur and amoonguss, tangrowth has a decent shot against electrics.

Building round ends up on Wednesday 9th at 9:30 PM GMT -5. Best of lucks to everyone on this round. And thanks everyone for their constant support, means a lot :)

made this team a long while ago, there isn't really much to say of it. made it to try out doublade, just a cute semistall that runs off of its defensive backbone and offensive pressure via m-mane + tornt and all sorts of the builds utilities. for how it plays just check the replays at the bottom or try it yourself, i posted solely for the aesthetics of the team. definitely not the best team, but it surprised me on how smoothly it plays due to people being terrible at breaking fat teams.

The concept is Torn t+Tangrowth regenerator core, so i wanted to build a bulky offense team with it. Raikou is the check to electric types which gives tornadus trouble, and also forms a volt turn core with it. Latios is the secondary check to electric types, and also gives hazard removal due to all that switching.
Heatran is amongst the best teammates to Tangrowth, as it handles the Fire-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks that stop Tangrowth, while Tangrowth takes on Water- and Ground-types such as Manaphy and Landorus-T in return. The last slot is for the mega, Mega diancie fits in this spot well since it checks fire and flying types tangrowth is weak to, in return tangrowth checks water, ground and grass types.

First time teambuilding here, don't be surprised if my teams are shit :(

When analyzing Tangrowth and Tornadus-Therian, and their abilities and defensive synergy, I thought, why not add another Regenerator? A Regenerator Core of Three can continue pivoting out, regaining health and checking opponents. Because of this, I added Alomomola. Almomomla checks a plethora of physical threats that Tangrowth may not necessarily be able to take on, and with its monstrous HP, it can pass huge Wishes that can contribute to the health-gaining. Next, I added Mega Scizor. Mega Scizor is very bulky and hardwalls Bisharp, which can prove detrimental to this team. Mega Scizor also formed a U-Turn core with Tornadus-Therian, and Mega Scizor takes on rampaging physical attackers Alomomla and Tangrowth would be overwhelmed by. Mega Scizor also checked Kyurem-Black, which is a big plus. After this, I added offensive Starmie to reduce passiveness and use Rapid Spin to make hazard removal not an object, plus making Mega Sableye being hit hard by Hydro Pump. Lastly, I put Clefable to counter Mega Sableye and check many of the wall/stall breakers like Kube. After this, my shit team was done.

Hi, first time in a Pokemon related competition on the forums of any sort, so forgive me if my team is absolutely horrible. I've not come across many absolutely team breaking threats to this team (bar perhaps BD Azu), so I'm hoping it's decent. I did spend a good few hours on it, and done a good amount of fine tuning. I'm mostly happy with the final product, and performs well barring hax and horrid misplays on my part or nonsensical plays from my opponent (you'd be surprised at how often that screws me over). Most of the time it's misplays on my part because I never get much time to battle anymore and when I do, I'm usually too tired to think as straight as I'd like.

Anyways, let's start with the team itself:
tangrowth.gif
tornadus-therian.gif
landorus-therian.gif
heatran.gif
keldeo.gif
manectric-mega.gif

I built in a style reminiscient of Balance, but most members have some offensive capacity because Bulky Offense is more my playstyle.

I ran HP Ice on Tangrowth to beat the typical Landorus and Garchomp leads, everything else is basically standard (I've never used Tangrowth before), and virtually all of my team can beat steels in some way or another so HP Fire is kind of irrelevant. Tornadus is a Life Orb set to more easily force switches and beat MVenu more reliably, although I do sometimes miss the ability to switch in on pretty strong special hits. Tornadus' moves have changed as time went on and as members were added that did particular roles, it meant Tornt didn't need a certain move move as much. In the end, I've settled for Knock Off in the last slot and Superpower over Focus Blast or Heat Wave and Taunt. Lando is your standard defensive spread to check Zard X and Excadrill, both of which can be huge threats, as well as setting up U-turn, but with one difference - I ran SD over U-turn to break walls that the rest of my team can struggle with, although there are times where I miss U-turn. It helps me with MSable if Heatran goes down. Next, I ran Heatran to beat the aforementioned Mega Sableye and generally screw stallier teams over, as this variant, a Stallbreaker Sp.Def hybrid, can dismantle most typical SkarmChan cores. It traps Chansey with Magma Storm, Taunts it, Toxics it and then Protects to avoid Seismic Toss, and it's all a wrap for Skarm anyways. And besides, catching something with a Magma Storm on the switch is a no prediction needed switch into something else. Next, I ran choice scarfed Keldeo to help me vs set up threats like DDance MegaTar and beat opposing Heatran, who the particular set I was using was walled by indefinitely. I chose to run Icy Wind as, while it was HP Elec early on in teambuilding, I later added MMane, who beat Gyarados, and Scarfed Keldeo virtually counters Mega Gyarados anyways. I chose Icy Wind over anything else as it lets me beat Dragonite more easily. Finally, I added Mega Manectric to blanket check faster offense teams and Weavile, who Keldeo can't 100% switch in on thanks to Knock Off. It also forms a VoltTurn core with Tornadus. It also checks Mega Metagross, who can be threatening.

I haven't got many, as I didn't save replays a lot (I forgot about putting up replays until much later lol).

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-341200311 - I make a few bad plays, but it does show that it can beat the metagame trend of Excadrill, who's very common right now. Relatively low ladder, but for some reason I rarely fight the ass teams everyone else seems to, and this team is decent.

i made this team awhile ago and it's labeled "team to give away #2" in my builder, so idk if it's really super good. regardless, it's fun to use, it usually works, and it has the core for the week in it!! while the team isn't built around torn-t + tangrowth, it utilizes them nicely to support what it is built around: rock polish mega diancie. rp mega diancie is really good, but it's not easy to get up a RP most of the time... that's where hippo comes in! sand gives diancie boosted special bulk, making it a bit easier to set up against things like tornadus-t; for example:

252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Mega Diancie in Sand: 104-123 (43.1 - 51%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Mega Diancie: 155-183 (64.3 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
this is just a general example, ofc. anyways, that's why this team is a balanced build rather than a bulky offensive build. the rest of the team is kinda self explanatory except idk why i have an AV meta on a balanced build but whatever.

This team is caca and you should not vote for it but I figure I would just share it cause I still like using it and I think M-Steelix is a niche but fun mega to use while defensive CM Slowking is fire. I'm testing out DDance TTar because I can but more or less concept is to secure a win with CM Slowking most times while Torn-T is its usual self. Loses to stall and big surprise loses to offensive SD M-Zor as well. I'll use my illuminati powers to convince SketchUp to choose M-Steelix as part of his project when I make a version that isn't total garbage but besides the point some ideas to throw around.

Started with AV Tang and AV Torn. Added CM Slowbro at first but it does nothing against stall so I swapped it with CM Reuni since it still beats Mega Medicham. Added Mega Scizor because it gives us another wincon and beats faires. I then added Hippo for rocks as well as to check Zard X, Bisharp, and Excadrill.. Final member was Fast Tran since it checks Zard Y and Clef, which are threats to the team. It also beats fast Mega scizor which 6-0es the team without it.

if you thought this team was shit, dont let it tarnish my rep as a teambulder, sorry is really bad :x

Nothing too incredible here. Decided to take a more balanced route with the build, the teambuilding process was full of changes. I started with a defensive mega altaria balance, backed by a Volt Switch Cobalion to help Hoopa coming in. Thing is lack of hazard removal killed me, so I swapped coballion with a skarmory.
The goal of the team is basically use the bulky pivots as means of getting hoopa in for the kills, with Ttar there to take on opponsig hoopa, pursuit trapping it.
The team struggles quite a bit with dark types, mainly weavile and bisharp, which you have to constantly force out with Whirlwind and kill with life orb/SR hits, other than that the team deals quite decently with most threats. I still feel this is shit and gets 6-0ed by something (LO Torn), but I just built it this afternoon and feel it's quite OK to have some fun with the core.

Added t tar + exca cause what is sand without them tbh. Mega gyara as the mega of choice and I like how it just rips apart fat psychics like celebi, rachi, bro, lati, etc. Potentially using bro as setup bait if running sub. Also has fun against stall after quag is weakened / taken care of in which tang could easily do. LO torn t dents stall pretty well which is nice and AV is also fine to better matchup against m zam, keld etc. Scarf t tar traps latis and yea you know sets up sand to support exca and pave a way for it to sweep, exca there as a wincon / fairy check and provides hazard control via spin. Team is heavily weak to m garde and i have to focus on revenge killing it with exca. Heatran provides a secondary fairy check and sets up rocks which is ideal / mandatory on every build tbh. Team is annoyed by rotom w albeit having tang so eq is an option on m gyara to hit it hard on switch. It seems p cool and hope you enjoy it.

This team was built around a Pokemon that I had a lot of fun with using during BW2: Lum Berry Dragonite. Whilst it became a lot less impressive due to many Fairies and Steel-types joining the tier, it can still be a strong win condition to pull through with fairly powerful Outrages.

Next up I wanted to use Mega Gardevoir, as it synergized okay with Dragonite, and it's just one of my favourite Pokemon as a whole. I used Focus Blast over other moves in order to beat Steel-types more easily. I used Will-O-Wisp on the off-chance I get to burn some Metagross switch ins.

Followed by another Pokemon to beat Steel-types, Keldeo. I felt like it was necessary to have something that could consistently beat Steels. Normally I would've used any other set like Scarf or Specs but I really like SubCM for the fact that its so difficult to beat once you approach late game and its hard checks are gone.

Tangrowth is a cute Pokemon and does well at physically checking stuff, as well as shit like Keldeo which I like to have checked. Good Pokemon, I opted for an Assault Vest set in order to boost its Special Defense which is quite lackluster to say the least

Latios is a great offensive Pokemon. I went for HP Fire > Earthquake / Roost so I don't entirely lose to Ferrothorn. Super fun Pokemon to use. I required a Defogger as well jaja

Tornadus-Therian is a fun Pokemon. idk why I put it on this team anymore I think I just needed a random glue and Tornadus-Therian is an amazing glue with Regenerator + extremely high speed.

thanks for listening!

made this team a long while ago, there isn't really much to say of it. made it to try out doublade, just a cute semistall that runs off of its defensive backbone and offensive pressure via m-mane + tornt and all sorts of the builds utilities. for how it plays just check the replays at the bottom or try it yourself, i posted solely for the aesthetics of the team. definitely not the best team, but it surprised me on how smoothly it plays due to people being terrible at breaking fat teams.

It also checks Mega Metagross, who can be threatening.

i made this team awhile ago and it's labeled "team to give away #2" in my builder, so idk if it's really super good. regardless, it's fun to use, it usually works, and it has the core for the week in it!! while the team isn't built around torn-t + tangrowth, it utilizes them nicely to support what it is built around: rock polish mega diancie. rp mega diancie is really good, but it's not easy to get up a RP most of the time... that's where hippo comes in! sand gives diancie boosted special bulk, making it a bit easier to set up against things like tornadus-t; for example:

252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Mega Diancie in Sand: 104-123 (43.1 - 51%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Mega Diancie: 155-183 (64.3 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
this is just a general example, ofc. anyways, that's why this team is a balanced build rather than a bulky offensive build. the rest of the team is kinda self explanatory except idk why i have an AV meta on a balanced build but whatever
