Project OU Theorymon [Voting: Check Post #3272]

All right I stopped hating everything, and while I think all of the submissions are nice buffs, I still have a favorite pick out of the bunch. I still don't love Typhlosion because it is just another super powerful wallbreaker like Sheer Force Kyurem, and something else already does what it does, albeit, at the cost of a mega slot. There are already too many Dragon Dancers in OU for me to want to vote for Krookodile, but he does sound nice. Poison Heal Gastrodon warmed up to me as I realized its walling potential. However, it comes second to Mantine. I will most likely vote for Mantine because it is something I could see myself using for its walling abilities and support movepool.
Question of the day: Is Water Veil or Water Absorb better on Mantine?
Water Veil gives Mantine immunity to Wil-o-Wisp and other sources of burn, but water absorb gives it an immunity to scald as well as a variety of other water type moves, allowing it to better take on rain and scald mono attackers; not to mention that it gets healed by water type attacks too. It seems like Water Absorb is the winner here. I guess I didn't need to ask. Feel free to add, though.

I feel Water Veil is superior as a 100% chance of avoiding a form of residual damage is pretty incredible. I really don't think Mantine takes on rain well - as I've said, Kabutops and all.

I'm more a fan of Water Absorb, since it means a well predicted Mantine switch can undo SR damage, it makes it completely immune to what is otherwise a spammable type (and gets healing over damage to boot), and still makes it immune to Scald, which is one of the most common sources of burns in OU. Water Veil is viable, but I see it being a more team dependent thing, like if you need it to handle something like Hex Gengar.

248 SpA Gengar Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Mantine: 120-142 (35.9 - 42.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, and burn damage

It's just that Mantine would probably find itself more on bulky teams, Stall, or semi-Stall, where direct damage and perhaps occasional side effects tend to be more a concern for damage and its longevity than status wearing it down. To go back to it, Mantine makes a pretty decent check to Gengar even with SR, and could actually counter him if they're off with Roost.

252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Mantine: 114-136 (34.1 - 40.7%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Mantine: 114-136 (34.1 - 40.7%) -- 53.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 SpA Mantine Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gengar: 91-108 (35.1 - 41.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Which equates to a 2HKO with SR and 1-2 rounds of LO recoil. Considering Gengar tends to be a bit hard for Stall teams to wall with their current options, it would be a nice addition (on a sidenote, what are Stall's current answers to Gengar?).
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 244 HP / 192+ SpD Gliscor: 156-185 (44.3 - 52.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Poison Heal

Okay I have no clue why you would choose a burn immunity over an entire TYPE immunity. Seriously, half the reason Mantine is so amazing for stall is that it stops CroCune and CroBro. Additionally, it restricts Keldeo to Secret Sword and HP Whatever (if not Icy Wind). This, to me, is really a no-brainer. Yeah I guess burns are annoying, but the only way Mantine is getting burned is if it switches into WoW. If you're using Mantine on stall, burns aren't going to matter at all because you'll have a cleric. Seriously don't use Water Veil.

EDIT: *Half* the reason Mantine is good is hyperbole. It's certainly a factor in why it's so good though.

New Computers are so much fun.

Even if I'm not going back to council shenanigans and all, I can have a presence once more with a Comp and no matter how annoying I can be, thought I'd have some fun. Mantine is gonna be a nice addition and sure Typhlosion is gonna be a nuke...I generally hate offensive buffs to theorymons as late now that i think bout it and defensive ones are always a bit more fun in my mind. Krookodile is one I got a hard time trying to say no gainst for many reasons but a new bulky water that abuses a typing that Gyarados already made famous with reliable recovery (Water Absorb + Roost is tempting). The whole thing course is just once more a mon v a mon, and its good i guess after that Rotom crap (I get the two buffs but whatever).

Also second round slate anytime soon? Cacturne and buds want a rematch :D

Ok, I'm the only person so far that has voted for Drought Typhlosion. We need a slogan. So of course, firehusky saves the day once again.

On one hand, Drought Typhlosion would make for an amazingly good sweeper with a Choice Scarf, as it would actually be quite reminiscent of Scarf Keldeo in BW, just not as frustrating to face. On the other hand, Roost Mantine has a lot more potential as a wall if it were given Roost, as having a near perfect counter to Landorus sounds extremely appealing. But at the end of the day, my caveman way of hitting things hard to get things done makes me want to vote for Drought Typhlosion. Oh well, hopefully I can get the chance to vote for a second place slate. But y'know, AFTER we give Sand Rush Cacturne his chance to shine... er, sand?

Good people, 'tis time for another election, and you know what that means: Obnoxious preachy campaign speech time!

Krookodile claims he'll bring fun and dance to OU. However, did you know that behind close doors he actively uses intimidation tactics to get what he wants? How will your children know the joy of the Dragon Dance under the hateful eyes of the crooked crook that is Kroodile?

Typhlosion says he'll help provide a warm environment for the enhanced growth of our OU crops. However, he has yet to deal with the issue of the continuing Drought and responds to all possible opposition with needless Eruptions of rage. Further, history has shown that when the road gets Rocky, Typhlosion breaks down and fails to properly deal with issues at hand.

Mantine is no better. Mantine promises to be a wall that'll clear away the entry hazards keeping stall at bay. However, what does it do when it enters the fray? It simply sleeps on the job like a lazy roosting bird? How can it be expected to do its job when it won't even work when push comes to shove.

You know you does work for you? You've known all along. He's the one stopping the flood of Rain from destroying you. He's the one who'll never be paralyzed with fear, the one who'll withstand any burn to keep you safe, and the one who'll stop the toxicity of his enemies from destroying your neighborhoods. That's right: Poison Heal Gastrodon, the Reaper of Rain, the Stopper of Status, the MIGHTY MOOOLLLUUUSK

I call false advertising. Surely it can't stop rain AND status at once!
