Outside Rules: No Legendaries, no sleep clause, DT allowed, no hacks

My friends play with a Switch Clause because it's really cheap if I switch out a Machamp and switch in Alakazam on a Psychic, not realizing how vital this is to the game.

Lolz... worst. clause. EVAR.

Before I got into the competitive scene, I knew a lot of kids that played the "no legendaries" rule and that was it. Everything else was fair game to them and yes, a lot of them carried Sleep Talk on 3-5 pokemon in their team.

I know I was the one being bitter about Darkrai on PBR a couple of days ago, but I've actually given it some thought and changed my mind since. I MUCH prefer PBR's style of 3 vs. 3 with no clauses over the "standard" rule set, because it forces people to think outside of the box. This way, you come up against a much larger variety of Pokemon and it's a lot more fun and less predictable.

Double Team, though, is a pain in the ass, since any Pokemon can have it so you'd never know when to pick your Yawner or whatever. <_< Thankfully, nobody really uses DT on PBR.

It doesn't force you to think outside the box; it just puts you in a different box.

Nasty Plot Aura Sphere Psych Up Togekiss FTW.

When you Psych Up, you'll lose your Nasty Plots.

This damn OHKO's pokes always win me in the Battle Tower. Hippowdon and Dugtrio with Fisure, Abomasnow with Sheer Cold, Dewgong and Lapras with Sheer Cold and Horn Drill + Sleep Talk... I hate them. I've always lost in the Battle Tower with them...

My friends and I play no legends, no sleep (at all. Not sleep clause. They just ban all sleep moves...), no double team, item clause, and switch clause.

ScarfChomp, thy name is perfection.

I play against people who don't allow OHKO moves, Skarmbliss, Evasion clause, item clause, and some other clauses that escape me at the moment many times before, so I couldn't help but get used to that...

Well, it could be a lot worse. There's this one guy on Youtube who won't allow items like Leftovers at all, makes it against the rules to switch when you're at a disadvantage, and hypocritically used uber Pokemon in battles.

It's true that Double Team and Minimize is a total annoyance in battle, but you should just use a move that always hits, like Aura Sphere and Swift.

OHKO moves are stupid too.

By "outside of the box", I meant "outside of the standard box". Indeed, there are certain precautions that you must take in order to avoid being decimated by things like Breloom and Darkrai due to no sleep clause, which can be perceived as being put in a box. But for the record, the PBR box is a quite a lot more spacious than the standard one, thanks to the format. ;)

So yes, it does make you think outside of the box in the sense that you will not construct your team exactly as you would if you were using Smogon's rule set.

Hmm. . . I'd definitely pack a Primeape (Hell, I do already =P) as it can avoid sleep with Vital Spirit and hit Breloom with Overheat or Darkrai with CC (You'd need a Scarf to outspeed him, though.)

Also, I'd spam OHKO moves like Obi said. I'd probably use Mind-Reader/Sheer Cold/Substitute/Spore Smeargle or something along those lines, in addition to a Rest-Talking OHKO'er. Probably Walrein, Lapras, Articuno, or really anything that can learn Sheer Cold.

Let's not forget Machamp, who is awesome in OU play, but even better with DT running around. The only problem being he can't come in on Pokemon like Articuno who can proceed to nail him with a 100% accurate Sheer Cold.

That gives me an idea. . . Rest/Sleep Talk/Double Team/Sheer Cold Articuno. Oh, god, that'd be evil.

Then, of course, some Ubers for hitting hard.

No legendaries.

i remember when i bearly got to the elite four, that one old lady had a DT,SS,protect, dig quagsire. it was a bitch to kill because i didint have any grass pokemon and my strongest pokemon were luxray, infernape, and staraptor, so if the clauses were like that i would never agree to battle anyone.
Your Infernape didn't have Grass Knot?

No switching? Are you joking? That is the stupidest rule i have ever heard. Ever. ALmost as stupid as the Edgar clause.

Dare I ask what the Edgar clause is?

I don't mind the "no legendary" clause... it's scrubby, but so are the people who enforce it. They're usually easy to beat anyway. I'd e-stab anyone who tried to challenge me without any of the standard clauses though.

Oh boy, this reminds me of my Nsider days with UMBARSC.

Umbreon
Mean Look
Baton Pass
Articuno
Reader, Mind
Sheer
Cold

Effective? No. Fun to use? Hell yeah.

When you Psych Up, you'll lose your Nasty Plots.

I was more or less thinking of the reverse. Let an opponent gain a few Evasion points and then Psych Up. Then proceed to Nasty Plot. Unless you are saying stat ups after a Psych Up will make you lose the one's you gained from Psych Up?

So you guys who play on battle sims would use Double Team and OHKO moves if they were allowed? =\

That's surprising, since (pretty much) nobody uses them on PBR despite no clauses. Maybe it's for the best that it remains banned on Shoddy and such. Not that I still play 6 vs. 6 standard, but for the sake of the people who do.

I still don't really support sleep clause, but I see how it could be an annoyance in the context of that particular metagame.
