Parasect

Added the two sets that can be used in OU
_______________________________________________

[Overview]

  • Terrible defensive typing. x4 weak to Fire, Flying, weak to Stealth Rocks, weak to Ice, and Bug.
  • However, this typing allows it to resist common attacks in OU such as Mach Punch, Thunderbolt, Surf and even Earthquake.
  • Dry Skin gives it an immunity and a chance to work well under rain, and this healing combined to Leech Seeds and Leftovers makes its HP recover very fast.
  • Slow, but moderate bulk and average attack makes it usable.
  • Spore.
[SET]
name: SubSeed
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Leech Seed
move 3: Spore / Protect
move 4: X-Scissor
item: Leftovers
nature: Impish
ability: Dry Skin
evs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD

[Set Comments]

  • Parasect heals very fast with Leech Seed and Leftovers, even more with Dry Skin under Rain. It requires a bit of prediction to use but can be deadly.
  • Spore is really useful to give Parasect an extra turn and render an ennemy counter useless, however, Protect can be used as a pseudo-healing move.
  • X-Scissor is the main attacking move, since Grass types and Magic mirror Pokemons are all at least taking regular effective damage from it. Those Pokemons are immune to Leech Seeds.
[Additionnal Comments]

  • The EV spread here gives Parasect balanced bulk, and allows it to be resistant on both sides. Maximum HP is needed, because when it's not invested in it is a bit low. With the nature and Defense / Special defense EV, its defenses hit the same number.
  • Aromatherapy can be an interesting option over Spore, since it will give Parasect a chance to help its team, and mostly get rid of poisoning by Toxic / Toxic Spikes.
[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: X-Scissor
move 3: Spore
move 4: Seed Bomb / Brick Break
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
ability: Dry Skin
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD

[Set Comments]

  • The most powerful (offensively) set Parasect can use.
  • Spore is causing a lot of switches, just use Swords Dance on the switch, so the Spore target can be selected.
  • X-Scissor is the main STAB move, and the secondary move can either be Seed Bomb for all the Waters in OU, or Brick Break for the Steels.
  • Dry Skin gives Parasect a chance to get in, and potentially heal it each turn (under rain) which is useful, especially with a Life Orb.
[Additionnal Comments]

  • The EV spread gives Parasect much needed power, and bulk on both sides. There is no speed EV, since it won't be outspeeding anything cool without heavy invest (you need 180 speed EV to outspeed 4th gen standard Swampert)
  • Aerial Ace is an option, over Seed Bomb / Brick Break to beat stuff like Birijion or Breloom, but its pathetic power won't allow it to hit anything hard without being x4 effective.
  • Growth is an option over Swords Dance for a mixed set who is able to surprise Parasect's traditional counters. Hidden Power [Electric] can be used for Skarmory, but it won't hit anything really hard.
[Team options]

  • Parasect best fit in a Rain team. It is a unique pokemon there, as one of the only Grasses that fit on those teams well. Dry Skin heals it each turns under that weather, and its weaknesses are covered by most Water types, bar Flying, who is not really used a lot, and Rock. However, it resists many moves that are threatning for a Rain team, like Electric moves.
  • A good partner for Parasect in Rain is Lanturn, since it will take most of its weaknesses pretty well, and Parasect x4 resist Lanturn's weaknesses.
  • If someone ever has the crazy idea of using Parasect out of rain, Heatran is the best team mate, since it resists all (at the exception of Rock) Parasect's weakness. On the other side, Parasect resists Heatran's main weaknesses, such as Ground, Fight and water.
[Counters]

  • Anything that can change the weather is threatning for Parasect, since they all hurt it. Sun is really something it won't like, giving it a x7,5 weakness to Fire.
  • Sun also calls for Grass types, and Venasaur takes regular effective damage from X-Scissor, meaning it will just set up and won't find about Parasect.
  • Erufuun can be a pain to take out for SubSeed, and it can hurt it with U-Turn, or even worse : Taunt it.
  • For the Swords Dance set, Skarmory x4 resists both Parasect's STAB moves, and it outspeed and retaliate with x4 effective Drill Peck / Brave Bird. It can also take Brick Break really well (when not roosting). Gyarados can come and Intimidate it, and it resists X-Scissor and Brick Break, get a Dragon Dance and KO with Stone Edge. It must watch out for Spore, however (like every other counters).

[Dream World]

  • Parasect gets Damp, which is not as useless as for Burungeru, but still not really useful, since Explosion got nerfed.

Doesn't this thing learn Aromatherapy? I think you could add that in the "Additional Comments" for the SubSeed set (although Parasect will severely suffer from the four moveslot syndrome).

You can also slash in Giga Drain as an option over X-scissor on the subseed set. Obviously not going to do a whole lot of damage and less so than X-scissor, but useful to get more healing per turn with seed and rain up.

That's a terrible idea. The whole point of X-Scissor is that he can get rid of a lot of opposing Grass-types with a powerful STAB move, which is important since they can't be Subseeded. Giga Drain won't do anything to Grass-types, and is a waste of a moveslot on Parasect due to craptastic Special Attack.

Also, this analysis is too short. It doesn't even have team options for both sets or an actual counters section at the end.

One other thing is that you really shouldn't be investing Attack EVs into Parasect. It doesn't help him in any way, because he needs all the bulk he can get. He's trying to stall out the opponents, so Attack EVs are unnecessary. A better spread is 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD with an Impish nature, which gives equal defenses on both sides so that Parasect can outstall a wide variety of opponents. Also mention the reasons why Parasect fits well on a Rain Stall team besides Dry Skin. Ie. his unique resistances which complement rain stall teams perfectly.

Finally, it's X-Scissor, and Leech Seed, not X-Scissors and Leech Seeds.

Just pointing out that Dry Skin Parasect is technically [strikethrough]8x[/strikethrough] 5x weak to Fire, LOL.

EDIT: It's still more than anything else is weak to anything.

I disagree. Your opinion against grass types is quite true, but through my own experiences, there have been very few grass types i've met (erefuun, nattorei and jarooda are about it so far) and giga drain generally gives you another 10-20% more recovery per turn with no ev's invested. In certain situations X-scissor is better, but I found Parasect did so little damage with either that another way to increase his longevity while still stalling out the opponent was a better way imo.
