Pet discussion thread

I have a four year old beagle named harley. I haven't had any other pets of note. Here is a picture from 2005, altough he hasn't changed a lot since then:

no I did not take a picture of my dog's penis on purpose idiots

also ls your dog is awesome

Awesome pets everyone! stonerchris, your expansive reptile collection is just amazing.

Anyway, I've got two dachshunds, shown here:

and his brother Pippin!

And my favorite picture of them:

I absolutely adore our dogs. They're so much fun to play with and they have the ultimate power of making people happy simply by looking at them.

Before we got our dogs, I had about 5 hermit crabs or so. I couldn't ever keep track of them because they'd die or switch shells so fast I didn't stand a chance of remembering who's who.

I really hate cats. I really, really do.
We feed the birds that live around our area and there are surprising numbers of them. We catch cats sneaking around the station all the time and one I caught one eating a sparrow. :(
They're nasty, vile and unloving creatures. I don't see why anyone could keep them.

Dogs on the other hand are loving and cute. :)
EDIT: I still want a gecko.

My kitty, Marley (as in Bob)! <3 her very much, she sleeps on my chest a lot, and decides when it's time for me to wake up. She also takes after me, sprawling wherever, with her arms or legs hanging off the edge of whatever she sits on. She hates when I'm on the computer, and purs like crazy whenever she manages to get me off and pay attention to her. She's also like ridiculously good at getting out of collars (I let her out, but on a leash). We've bought like four different kinds of collars, two of which were supposed to be "inescapable", but she's managed to get her way out of all of them. She likes chasing moths/butterflies, and she plays fetch with little balls of tin foil. She also sleeps on my PS2 when it's been on for a while (or she used to when she was small; it's a slim PS2).

Having a cat is definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone. They're not as obedient or loyal as dogs, but that's part of what makes them fun. It's an extremely give-and-take relationship, and it takes a lot more time and effort (in my experience) to develop a rapport with a cat than it does with a dog, but they're just so awesome.

Plus she sleeps like 16 hours a day, and eats anything she sees on the floor. As a stoner, she definitely reminds me of me. :P

Stonerchris I'll trade my turtle for any one of your pets

heheh sorry dude, i just managed to unload my own turtle a few months ago. got it as a christmas present from some well meaning but uninformed friend of mine. cool animals but a pain in the ass to keep, esp. when the only place you have to clean the tank is your bathtub...ew...

i should also mention my cats. i agree that cats are great and everyone should have one at some point. but i left mine with my parents, because cats + reptiles = fire hazard...they tend to like sleeping next to the heat lamps and can knock them over, so they're going to be living with my parents until i get a place where it would be possible to seperate them completely.

My reptiles and cats have never had an issue. The cats look at them, the ones that are out of the reptile room look back...everyone gets along. No fires, no knockover events. They even keep off the cages of the reptiles. If you think stonerchris has a big reptile collection, think again!

we have:
31 gallons of fish
2 cats
1 IJ blue tongue skink
1 IJ frilled dragon
1 schneiders skink
1 fire skink
2 crocodile skinks
8 crested geckos (plus 3 babies and 6 eggs)
2 gold skinks
1 grey banded kingsnake
1 rabbit
A mealworm colony
A false death's head cockroch colony

I think that's about it.

Some pics now:

damn majesty, that is an awesome collection you've got. i'm going to an expo this weekend and your pics are swaying me to buy something besides feeders =D
the two-headed skink is interesting, one day you'll have a live one i bet. i havn't kept any skink species yet, but i'd like to get an L.fernandi after seeing yours. then again i'm pretty sick of feeder bugs, i don't really want any more insect eaters.

My Shih'Tzu Snoop. Got him a year ago and turned one yesterday!

That's him when he was Bald...Looks good with or without hair though lol

hmm, I have a "you're so ugly that you're cute" black pekingnese, I've had him since I was 9 so he's pretty old, but he'll live forever. :(

Then, almost a year ago I accidentally adopted an abandoned cat that we found. He was injured so I caught him and took him to the vet for treatment, and then looked into getting him adopted, they had to wait for a month, and by then he was mine. Which is weird, because I'm not really a cat person, but I guess the fat brat cat is an exception. :)

umm, in my house there is also a Russian dwarf Hamster that goes by the name Smokey, he's cute, and if you give him a treat he gets really territorial and refuses to exercise and gets really round. It's adorable. Umm, there are also 2 turtles, a few fish, and another female cat that irritates me. :)

I have three cats.

Pepper:

We got him in the summer of 05, he's my personal favorite. Him and I hang out all the time, he's a huge cat but a softie

Snowy:

Got her Spring 06, her and Lucky are bro/sis. She runs from everyone except my mom though. If I remember correctly, we got her so Pepper would have a playmate, but I'm not sure, it was a while ago.

Lucky:

catsproof046oa3.jpg

Got him last Fall (the same day I got Mew on Sapphire and pulled a jersey card in a football pack! =O), when we first got him he was nearly dead, his fur was covered in oil, one of his eyes was always shut, he just looked pitiful. It was no fault of the original owner: We got all three of our cats from my dad's friend, who owns a farm and has a lot of cats, and Lucky was the runt, never getting to eat and always getting beat up. Miraculously, we managed to nurse him back to health, and now he's probably the most energetic of the cats we own. He's a scavenger, if there's food on a table he'll try to get it, and like his sister he'll run away from people, but he hasn't as much lately.

I've had pets in the past that I don't have anymore:

Kitty, a cat we had back in the 90s and early 2000s, she died in 2003 I think (we had her put to sleep because she had kidney problems)

Dakota, a dog we had for maybe a week until we decided we didn't like having a dog, we gave him to one of my dad's friends and I think he's doing pretty good.

We had three goldfish back in 2004 whose names seemed to change every day. One of them was named John Kerry, who died November 1st 2004, not a good omen at all.

I'm PRETTY sure that's it. My memory doesn't go too far back though as far as animals are concerned.

Cat's name is Pete.

LOL stonerchris, that isn't even all of them. I've also had green tree frogs, red legged walking frogs, hong kong newts, long tailed grass lizards etc...

For skinks I reccomend a blue tongue skink. The L (or M or R, it's up in the air) fernandi is a whore. She hides all day under the substrate, bites and is a jerkoff. I really like the gold skinks, they are the smartest but you can't hold em. The schneiders skinks are dirt cheap and they are super nice. Avoid crocodile skinks, they are hiding whores too.

Live 2 headed lizards live less than 2 headed turtles and snakes, which is a rare thing to get, nevermind to have alive. I doubt I'll get another one, if I decide to breed the gold again (the female is 7-10 years old!!!) and they cost about 100 bucks to raise to selling age, with great effort, and get me about 20 bucks only when I sell. It's weak.

Oh yes for feeders-just go get some roaches and breed those. Much cheaper, healthier and less annoying than cricket by an observed margin.

Four cats (black, gray, orange, and less dingy gray), one of which had a litter of four more roughly a month ago. Actually, they're not really 'our' cats, they just live on our porch.

i have 2 dogs and they're both crazy. my one dog Sparky was abused before we got him so he basically tries to attack everyone he doesn't know. i've lost count how many people he's bitten. if you actually get to know him he's the sweetest dog ever. i don't actually know what mix he is but my mom did a swab test and sent it to a lab so they'll tell us what he is.

i got my other dog Dusty when my grandma died and my grandpa didn't want to take care of him anymore, so we took him. he's cute but he's probably the grumpiest dog i've ever met in my life. honestly i walk into the room and he growls. also if you drop food and try to pick it up and he's there, he WILL attack you. i'll try to post pictures if i find some.

i want a cat but my dad's allergic to them so i have to wait until i move out. i also want a ferret really bad but he's against keeping pets in cages so it's whatever.

Not a very clear image but you can see it's a poodle.

My female dog whose name is too lame for me to even mention here, this is about the only serious pet I've had.

She's come down with a hernia and an otitis on separate occasions, which had to receive immediate medical assistance, but since then, she didn't have any more medical issues.

My mom's been wanting to get a cat, but my dog wouldn't get along with one, so we didn't, so far anyway.

Dog!

I'm a fan of dogs and cats alike, though currently I have just a dog. Her name is Dharma, and she's a seven-year-old thoroughbred Labrador Retriever. Trained, very affectionate, and simply a joy to be around. Never bothered to get her trained for hunting; I cannot help regarding the practice with disdain. It's nice having a dog that genetically loves water; allows me to take her to the beach or lake whenever something is planned at such a location.

Anyhow, some pictures of her:

Wow, those are some amazing pictures! I didn't expect so many reptile owners.

Jessie is what's called a bluetick beagle - where normal beagles have white, she has black and white that are mottled so as to appear cool gray.

in November, she was diagnosed with lymphoma. Fortunately, it's a very treatable cancer. With chemo, a dog can expect at least 6 months of good-quality life before having to be put down, and I read about a Great Pyrenees that lived for over two years with it.

If you don't count being fat, she's in very good health. I expect she'll stick around a while.

A Boston Terrier and a Chihuahua mix. Used to have a Blue and Gold Macaw but had to get rid of him sadly. Other than that I had numerous dogs and a cat that I kept for YEARs before it just disapperead one day.

I'm just going to go ahead and declare myself "pet thread champoin". For those of you that disagree, please take into account I won't be a pokemon champion (or anything else) for a long time if ever, so yeah. Let me bask in it, no pun intended.
