Resource Pet Mods Workshop Thread

Ig encore and possibly TrickScarf would be banned and possibly disable and prankster would be broken but also key note in this mod; ghost types are also trapped and with :sableye: alr running 3 moves it only has one moveslot left to fit other shit which means we'll 4mss.

The thing abt voltturn is that hazards will also rise which means yea. Prob would ban them considering boots exist
Ok ! And do you have any sample teams ?

Hi y'all. I'm new here so I just wanted to share a idea.

The forbidden cup

Tldr; all mons are trapped even if they are ghost type or holding the item shed shell.

Bans

-eject button/pack
-memento/healing wish/any self-ohko move
-basically has gen9ou bans but sleep is aalso banned

On a side note; idk how hard it'll be to implement this but moves like chilly reception, teleport and baton pass fail when attempting to use them.

Tell me what y'all think and if I'm missing anything
Apologies if I’m incorrect, but this idea sounds a bit more in line with an OM or Solomod from my understanding.
Typically Pet Mods involve community-input features, such with Vaporemons where you submit new Items/Moves/Abilities or alter existing Items/Moves/Abilities/Pokemon to be voted on, or Fusion Evolution, where the entirety of the Fusions that make up its metagame are submitted and voted on by community members, or like Blindsided, where every participant gets to add one Fakemon to the metagame while not knowing the metagame at large.

Oh... Which means my Pet Mod (at the bottom of page9) was not actually a Pet Mod ?

Oh... Which means my Pet Mod (at the bottom of page9) was not actually a Pet Mod ?
It depends on how you format it. If the terrains it adds are, say, submitted and voted on by community members, then I could say it’d fit as a Pet Mod. However, if you wish to be the sole individual responsible for determining what all the terrains are, then thats more in line with a Solomod.

And how can we know if it's a Pet Mod, Other Metagame or Solomod ? Because I don't really know the difference...
I wouldn’t consider myself quite an expert of the differences between all three, but from my understanding:
- Other Mods are and submitted & built around changing one core feature. For example, Mix & Mega, an OM, is built around the mechanic of allowing all Pokemon to utilize megastones.
- Pet Mods typically involve community input of some form in their creation/development. If you want examples for this one, look at my prior message.
- Solomods are kinda a limbo for all of that, as its Rules & Regulations describe they are for mod ideas that may not exactly fit in the other 2 categories. If you look through everything there, there’s a wide array of concepts I think act akin to Other Mods or Pet Mods, but for ideas never fleshed out into full-fledged OMs or PMs or mods that creators desired to maintain full control over.

VGC Gen X
Self explanatory title, this is a pet mod based around the VGC meta. Unlike the last 4 generations, this will have no gimmick to speak of - it's back to basics battling. Each week there will be a new slate with new Pokemon, and potential discussion points (ex. should Frostbite replace Freeze). The mod will largely be focused on creating new Pokemon, though some older Pokemon will return too. If the mod becomes popular, I plan to also include an expanded dex format and a restricted meta format.

Q&A

Q: What are the rules?
A: Same as standard VGC - double battle, open team sheets, no two of the same Pokemon, no two of the same items, all Pokemon are set to level 50, no mythical Pokemon, bring 6 pick 4.

Q: How should my submissions look?

A: Like this:
Pokemon: Chiloquia
Type: Grass / Fire
Ability: Overgrow / Chlorophyll (All hidden abilities are available. If you create a new ability say what it does.)
Base stats: 58 / 92 / 74 / 136 / 90 / 80 (530 BST, stats are in order HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed)
Useful moves (you don't have to list whole movepool, just the stuff you think it would actually run.): Energy Ball, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Heat Wave, Growth, Scorching Sands, Will-o-Wisp, Chili Spray (Grass type version of Scald). If you create a new move say what it does. Outside of (pseudo) legendaries, there will be no signature moves. Everything gets Protect.
Gender (needed for Cute Charm, Rivalry etc.): Both
Weight kgs (needed for Low Kick etc.): 4.3
Size m (optional): 0.6
Appearance (optional): A maliciously grinning open chili plant with eyes, short legs and teeth.
Pokedex (optional): Just one drop of its oil is enough to season a meal for 100 people. Eating its seeds has long been a test of courage.
Competitive use: It's a glass cannon wallbreaker and sweeper with Chlorophyll.
Is it broken: It's very fragile, its speed isn't great outside Sun, and its movepool is pretty sparse outside its STABs. (If I believe your submission is broken, I reserve the right to reject it.)

Q: Can my new Pokemon be a regional forme or convergent evolution?
A: Yes, but hold off on the paradoxes for now (until we get an expanded dex format). If it is a new forme of an old mon, it must have the same base stat total.

Q: Can I suggest changes to pre existing moves, abilities or items?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I change my created Pokemon?
A: Yes. Just edit your original post before the deadline.

Pet Mod Name: Typecast

All right it's been almost a year, let's come back to this and make some adjustments to help spell out some things. Under the explanation here will be an example of what that would look like in a couple of example submissions.

Pet Mod Name: Typecast
Pet Mod Concept: This Mod takes the type chart and lets the player base turn it upside down. We will use this to make bad types better and good types worse, while also potentially combining, renaming or splitting up current types. Who knows, maybe a later slate would also include the creation of a brand new type that we would add to the game. Whatever the case, the type chart at the end of this will look dramatically different than it does right now.
Explanation: Each phase of the Mod would go as follows:

  • Step 0: Choose what the new type would be, and what type(s) it came from. This would be decided by council (with input from the community), not necessarily voted upon. A few of the early ones would involve rebalancing some types that need some assistance (nerfing Fairy, buffing Bug or Ice, etc) and a couple pre-determined type combinations (i.e. from the original post, combining Rock and Ground to create the new Earth type).
  1. Design the Type Chart. Submissions would be made for what this type should be able to do Offensively/Defensively, and the community would then vote on which one would be applied. These changes would also include more than just weaknesses/resistances, but also include other interactions, such as how the Flying type is immune to grounded hazards, or how the Electric type is immune to paralysis.
  2. Move Creation and Adjustment. Some moves of this type will need to be adjusted or redistributed in order for the balance to be maintained. Players will have a chance to adjust up to three moves of a type, and create up to three new ones. (For our purposes, suggesting that a move should get increased distribution counts as an "adjustment" in this phase, but you could also make a change to a move and also recommend it be distributed to more Pokemon).
  3. Redesign some Pokemon. Any time a type is changed, a number of Pokemon will look different as a result. This slate will allow submissions for some of these changed Pokemon to get new secondary types and updated movepools (including some of the moves that came up in the previous phase). This slate would also allow some Pokemon to gain this new type as a secondary type. Base stats of Pokemon will NOT be part of these changes, nor will abilities. The only changes in this phase will be changes based on Steps 1 and 2, as those are the only changes impacted by typing.
  4. Playtesting Phase. Is this new type balanced on paper, but the adjustments make another type very strong or very bad? We adjust accordingly, giving that type its own little slate for players to repeat Step 1 (and possibly steps 2 or 3) to adjust. Rinse and repeat all of these steps until we have a new type chart that still manages to be balanced and competitive to use.

Step 1) Designing a Type Chart

Example 1A] Modifying a current type
New Name: Magic

Offensive Table
Super Effective (x2)Not very effective (x1/2)No effect (x0)
Fighting
Dragon
Dark
Poison
Steel
Fire
Bug

Defensive Table
Weak to (x2)Resists (x1/2)No effect (x0)
Poison
Steel
Fighting
Dark
Dragon
Bug
Dragon

New mechanic: Magic-type Pokemon are immune to the Infatuation condition.
In this example, the submission modifies the Fairy (now called Magic) type to swap its resistance to Bug to instead be Not Very Effective against Bug, and turning its Immunity to Dragon to a Resistance, as well as adding a new mechanic. Note how the original type chart is still referenced with the previous selections being struck through, and the new additions being in bold. After making changes, as well as the new type mechanic, there would normally also be a requirement for an explanation as to why this change has been made.

Example 1B] Making a new or combined type
Earth

Offensive Table
Super Effective (x2)Not very effective (x1/2)No effect (x0)
Poison
Earth
Fire
Electric
Flying
Fighting
Steel
Grass

Defensive Table
Weak to (x2)Resists (x1/2)No effect (x0)
Water
Grass
Fighting
Earth
Normal
Electric
Poison
Fire
Flying

New mechanic: some moves will now have the Grounded condition, which the Flying type would be immune to. A number of these moves are currently Ground type moves (Earthquake, Spikes, etc.) but some other moves will also have this property added to them.
If I was making an actual submission here is where I would add that list of moves.
In this example, a number of elements have been taken from both types, but with a handful of changes for this new type. Obviously a detailed explanation would accompany this, as well as the list of moves to which the new mechanic would apply. Note how unlike the modification of an existing type, no boldening or strikethrough is required, except to note its interactions with itself.

Step 2) Move Creation/Adjustment

Name:
Power:
Accuracy:
PP:
Category:
Effect:
Priority:
Flags:
Potential Pokémon With This Move
:
Did I just borrow this from Vaporemons? Maybe. But did they prove it is effective there and it works for my purposes? Absolutely.

Step 3) Pokemon Adjustments

:sv/pokemon:
Name:
Type: remember that one of these MUST be the new type of the slate
New Moves:
Justification:
Did I just borrow this from Vaporemons, but just removing the section for Abilities? Maybe.

Miscellaneous:
  • My coding skills are rusty and I have never coded something of this scale, so I would need an expert to help me and/or show me the ropes
  • This will be an anti-dexit meta (all Pokemon available with their most modern movesets, but no Mega/Z-Moves/Dynamax [maybe Tera? undecided])
  • [insert third bullet point here]

Honestly I think I have enough here to make a submission, but I would appreciate having a few interested folks for a potential council and/or a coder before I throw my hat into the ring.

Not really at all; just wanted to share an idea

Since none of my three Pet Mod ideas got approved in the latest approval, I am putting them here for improvements so I can know what is wrong with them, before I re-submit them!
Pet Mod Name: Like a Muse to Flame
Pet Mod Concept: Remember when certain Pokémon were originally revealed, people started to assume the movepools for them, their abilities already having been revealed? Remember that one time Corviknight was playable in Showdown before Pokémon Sword and Shield's release, before it's full movepool or it's stats were even shown? Now, in this Pet Mod...your assumptions can become reality to create Smogon's next superstars!
Explanation: For each slate, the sprites of three Fakemon (And sometimes, their pre-evolutions or even some alternative forms) will be shown...and that's it. No name, no typing, nothing. It's up to you to pick up to three of the designs, and create a name and typing for each of them, as well as their abilities, movepools, and roles in the metagame. After a while, voting will commence for each of the three designs: The ones with the most votes for each design will win and become the Pokémon's real design!
Miscellaneous: This will be a micrometa, so only the new Pokémon will take part in it.

Pet Mod Name: Let's Go, Tamagotchi!
Pet Mod Concept
: Since 1996, Tamagotchi toys have proven to be one of the earliest similarities to Pokémon, with several unique kinds with their own quirky shapes and personalities. But, when Digimon stepped in as a masculine counterpart, only to explode in popularity, the Tamagotchi themselves have fallen into obscurity for all but the most dedicated fans. Now, on the 20th Anniversary of it's primary worldwide toy, the Tamagotchi Connection, it's finally time to see their true potential in a Pokémon battle! This Micrometa will focus almost entirely on Tamagotchi, testing the submitter's ability to adapt to even the weirdest and cutest of designs.
Explanation: Each slate will have three Tamagotchi species in it, with each user being able to submit typings, stat spreads, movepools, and abilities for each of them.
Miscellaneous: As mentioned earlier, this is going to be a Gen 9 Micrometa, so only the Tamagotchi put together by the community can take part! In addition, this mod will be run by a small council that will help put the mod together and make sure that it stays balanced. Custom Elements must be based on existing concepts if able, while Terastalization will be banned initially.

Pet Mod Name: Crossover Chaos MICRO
Pet Mod Concept: A 3v3 variation (Though six party members are allowed in each team) of the regular Crossover Chaos, nice and compact to create a balanced meta!
Explanation: The rules and submission process are identical to those of regular Crossover Chaos, however, keeping with the micro theme, not only will submission periods be shorter, but, after the first slate (A roster of 8 characters chosen by me to start the meta off, calling back to the very first Crossover Chaos slate) each slate will only have one winner. This should hopefully make it easier to balance each newcomer among the existing characters.
Miscellaneous: None

Can't speak for the other 2, but pet mods based on other franchises don't tend to do well (Poke Emblem comes to mind) because you alienate a lot of people that aren't fans of that franchise.

This one is probably your strongest idea in terms of being a pet mod. My major question that, were I a pet mods leader, is how are you going to get enough art to sustain this process? It would be rather uncool to just steal fakemon designs from people online. Do you plan to create designs yourself? Outsource it to other people involved in the mon? Elaborate more on how you plan to do this.

I echo what ChrystalFalchion said above. I'll also add that this could be an interesting Solomod for you to pursue. It would fit in well there with other crossover-themed Solomods. But I don't think that this has enough of a playbase to approve as a community-centric Pet Mod.

There are already two mods in the Crossover Chaos line of mods, including one being so inactive it barely counts as alive. Simply put, there isn't enough of a playerbase to support a third mod, when the second one is already questionable.

Ohoh, don't be silly....I will make the sprites myself in advance in time for the next slate while the current one is underway!

Has a no luck pet mod been implemented? You can accumulate points for hax like misses, secondary effects, and crits, and when you reach 100, the effect happens.

A concept like this doesn’t have much in terms of community input. I’d say this is closer to an OM concept (or if the OMs don’t approve it, a Solomod)

Edit: I saw your prior inquiries within the OM forums. Given an excerpt from Rules & Regulations Thread, I believe what you are looking for is a Solomod
There's also a group of Pet Mods called Solomods. There are some specific ideas that don't quite fit as Other Metagames or Pet Mods, like where in-game mechanics need to be changed to fit the "one rule" Other Metagames typically need or having specific changes like Pet Mods without the community focus. That would typically describe what a Solomod is. If you're ever unsure of what your idea may be counted as, you're free to post about it in the Workshop or message one of the staff!

Community input can be taken. Is there a reason this shouldn't be a Pet Mod?
Well, from the sounds of it, you already have a specific idea of what changes this mod will be making. Unless I’m misunderstanding, there isn’t any part of this mod that warrants community input.

By community input, I mean, in a quite literal sense, a community developing aspects of the mod. Take a look at many of the mods present on this forum, and you’ll see what I mean.

Many mods here have members voting for features in some manner, whether it be changes to existing items, moves, abilities, and Pokémon, or new mons to add to a meta. Those that don’t take community input via voting accomplish community input through a different methodology. Mods like Blindsided, Beartic Phone and Hide & Seaking, Blank Canvas, and Elimination War all have the community interacting via a means of submitting blindly made additions, which then get vetted against other blindly made additions.

hey y'all! some of you may remember, if you were around pet mods in the sm era, that i hosted a pet mod called eternal pokémon:

693e23b642357854f500e87ac3d9c4f210269c30_hq.gif

(it was a long time ago '^^)

the basic premise was that, just like what happened with eternal floette, what if the ultimate weapon also preserved other nfe pokémon as an eternal form? what if az didn't want to save only his trusty floette, but other critters he called friends?

these eternal pokémon have bst equal to 1 less than their final evolution's (no, i still don't know what to do with scyther or poliwhirl), may have one type changed*, retain their base forme's abilities, and gain a brand new signature move, like eternal floette's light of ruin!

with pokemon legends z-a in the horizon, i thought it would be a great idea to bring it back, but i have a few questions for the community before i do! go to this form, or read the questions down below and provide me your answers via reply on this thread or through discord at .lydian

Any suggestions outside of the scope of the form are also appreciated!

Q1. Throughout the first iteration of Eternal Pokémon, many of the winning submissions were designed without as much care for competitive balance as Pet Mods have nowadays and thus have very strong signature moves as a result, however they are still part of the project's history. Rank your preferences on whether previous Eternal Pokémon, including the ones from the generation 8 thread, should return. And if so, how?
  • Yes, without rebalancing Slates. The council should nerf them on an as-needed basis.
  • Yes, with rebalancing Slates. There would be slates where the community would try to reimagine overpowered or underpowered submissions to be on par.
  • No, all Eternal Pokémon should be recreated from scratch, and the previous iterations should be ignored.

Q2. When creating the original Pet Mod, I decided to have Eternal Pokémon be allowed a type change (like Mega Evolution), even though there is no precedent for it (Eternal Floette is the same type as Floette). This was done to make it easier to differentiate Eternal Pokémon competitively from their evolutions, who often would have the same type and set of abilities. Should that decision be maintained?
  • Yes, allow Eternal Pokémon to change up to one type from their base formes
  • No, all Eternal Pokémon should have the same type as their base formes

Q3. If it is decided that previous Eternal Pokémon should return and Eternal Pokémon should be restricted to their base forme's types. How should previous Eternal Pokémon that have type changed be tackled?
  • They should be reimagined to fit to the molds of their original types through community Slates.
  • They shouldn't return.

Q4. Deciding on a regional format as a base is very important, in a National Dex setting, there are many options that might overshine the amount of Eternal Pokémon added, and push for higher powercreep for them to stand out, controversially, certain regional formats might bring issues of balance and lack of options to the table, that can be remedied with the Eternal Pokémon, but should be another aspect to consider in the submission process. Rank your preferences on what regional Pokédex should be used as a base, if any?
  • That of the current generation excluding DLCs and transfer-only Pokémon (i.e. Paldea, for now)
  • That of the current generation including DLCs but excluding transfer-only Pokémon (i.e. Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry for now)
  • That of the current generation including DLCs and Transfer-only (i.e. Paldea, Kitakami, Blueberry, and HOME transfers for now)
  • That of Pokémon: Legends Z-A (whenever information about its regional Pokédex it comes around, but we can use X&Y's as a basis in the meantime)
  • That of Pokémon X & Y excluding post-game and transfer-only Pokémon
  • That of Pokémon X & Y including post game Pokémon and transfer-only Pokémon (i.e. the National Dex up to generation 6)
  • Eternal Pokémon should be a National Dex format

Q5. If it is decided that previous Eternal Pokémon should return and the format should be based on a regional Pokédex. How should Eternal Pokémon that aren't in the chosen regional format be tackled?
  • They should return despite not being present in the region chosen as a basis.
  • They shouldn't return.

thank you all very much for reading, i'm eager to bring back eternal pokémon, if it is allowed by the mods and appreciated by the community, but i would like to get information on the community first about these aspects, thank you :)

Q1: Yes, with rebalancing Slates. There would be slates where the community would try to reimagine overpowered or underpowered submissions to be on par.
i may be partial here, but the first eternal pokémon was so special to me, and i would love to see again these old designs, and give them a more modern and balanced edge, as they really do deserve it! my idea is to alternate slates between adding new eternal pokémon and adjusting old ones, with, ideally the least amount of change possible to either send them back into competitively viability, or tone them a bit down, looking at you eternal chingling and eternal lairon...

Q2: Yes, allow Eternal Pokémon to change up to one type from their base formes
unsurprisingly, i stand by my original decision, but i'm not as confident on it, hence it's being asked in the form in the first place, i think if we want to be truly loyal to the concept of eternal floette, much of its appeal to me comes from having nearly the same bst as florges, the same typing and ability, and yet, playing completely differently with an incredibly powerful signature move and more offensive stats. that said, rearranging stats can only get you so far, and i saw first hand how opening the door for a new type enables very creative ideas, and i think a lot of the previous submissions might lose their identity as well, if we remove this avenue!

Q3: They should be reimagined to fit to the molds of their original types through community Slates.
this scenario i don't find likely to happen, but still, if we are in a position where it is decided that types shouldn't change i think we should try to preserve the original submissions to the extent where it is possible! there's nothing wrong with off-type signature moves after all!

Q4: That of Pokémon: Legends Z-A (whenever information about its regional Pokédex it comes around, but we can use X&Y's as a basis in the meantime)
i don't know what this regional dex will be like yet, but to me, it only feels right to have it be based on Legends Z-A, as surely eternal floette will have some involvement in that game! this option also allows us to play with any new formes and pokémon introduced before they're available in sv ou and thus most other pet mods, and i think it could be a very interesting factor to consider! it would mean either delaying the start of the pet mod until we have more information, or tentatively using the base X&Y pokédex, but that is a path i'm more than willing to take!!

Q5: They should return despite not being present in the region chosen as a basis.
this might not make too much sense flavorwise, but i'll headcannon it as eternal pokémon being a special kind, just like how you can find bloodmoon ursaluna in kitakami, even though there are no regular ursaluna to be found there! it just feels right to me to have all eternal pokémon available!

Hello everyone, submitting ideas for two different Pet Mods - both based around the idea of a CAP that is *design* first rather than *competitive* first

Slates start with a description of several Fakemon, including things like abilities, common moves, base stats, and most importantly the general design and concept (not including art, to avoid restricting people too much). People then vote on which of the three to use as the final stage of the next mon.

After that we begin the a speedrun of the CAP process, with the difference that the design stage (description + name + appearance) happen *first*, and then the mechanical stages (type + ability + stats and movepool).

:onix: Story Driven :onix:

:snorlax: Pet Mod Concept: A pure-fakemon micrometa featuring pokemon that are designed to fit in a single player campaign, rather than designed to fit in a competitive context.

:mewtwo: Explanation:
Pokemon, especially in early generations, weren’t designed to fit in a competitive game - this is a well known fact and the cause of many broken mons which we seek to replicate here. Fakemon will be designed around a role they serve in a theoretical single player pokemon campaign, rather than a role they serve in a competitive game.

Slates will follow the progression of a made-up story - with concept submission focusing on design and thematic role rather than a mechanical role. Following concept voting the CAP process will be done in reverse order - with looks/name/thematic stuff done before things like stats, abilities, and moves - meaning the mechanical elements will need to fit within the confines of the appearance.

:chansey: Example: Slate 0: As the player starts out on their pokemon journey, they leave their home town and enter the wilds. In this game, the introductory wild area is a forest with tall trees blocking a lot of light. This slate should feature an Early Game pokemon that should be useful For The Early Game and would appear inside a Dark Forest environment.

hey y'all! some of you may remember, if you were around pet mods in the sm era, that i hosted a pet mod called eternal pokémon:

Q5: They should return despite not being present in the region chosen as a basis.
this might not make too much sense flavorwise, but i'll headcannon it as eternal pokémon being a special kind, just like how you can find bloodmoon ursaluna in kitakami, even though there are no regular ursaluna to be found there! it just feels right to me to have all eternal pokémon available!
hi, i have an update here! first off, i've changed my mind on one aspect, i was talking w my good friend hematite, and he brought up a very important point i hadn't considered about the type change. so, eternal pokemon was created before any regional variants pet mods or anything of the sort, so it had an unique niche in that "change a pokémon's type" role. now that role is filled by regional variants / evolutions, as well as paradox pokemon-inspired pet mods that we already have a good number of this generation! not to mention, i fear i was a bit too attached to the original designs, but i really should put what's more important for the concept of eternal pokémon first, which kind of is all about keeping the same type but changing how the pokemon fundamentally plays. hema also drew an interesting parallel with all other one-off form pokemon like bloodmoon ursaluna, ash-greninja, lycanroc dusk, that all change drastically how they play, but keep the same typing (although they do change abilities)! so yeah after all that ruminating i am now on team no-type-change! hopefully this post compels some people to change their minds, but it's okay if not as well.

---

anyway, let's see how the poll results came out, these are by no means final decisions, especially since we got so few votes, so things are still up in the air, but maybe there can be some takeaways here:
Screenshot 2024-08-25 115805.png

so there is a tie for "scrap all old eternal pokemon" and "reintroduce them through balancing slates" assuming a ranked pairs voting system. no conclusive answer here, but what is pretty clear is that if the old eternal pokemon are brought back, the community should touch 'em up before they're re-added to the pet mod, everyone preferred that to adding them back filterless.
Screenshot 2024-08-25 115958.png

by only one vote difference i can't say this is a very conclusive answer either, although keeping the type change option is winning. i'll keep ruminating about this one, and maybe ask the pet mod leaders what they think, especially with the meta context of eternal pokemon stepping on the shoes of other pet mods like regional variants and paradox pokemon based ones!
Screenshot 2024-08-25 120143.png

the results speak for themselves on this one, but to get to this scenario of course it would imply both returning previous eternal pokemon, and removing the type change rule, neither of which is close to confirmed as you can see above.
Screenshot 2024-08-25 121132.png

Screenshot 2024-08-25 121152.png

so here there is a three-way tie assuming ranked choice voting for current gen with transfers, za, and national dex up to xy. however za got a whopping 3/6 first-place votes so that should speak to something! again, nothing set in stone for this!
Screenshot 2024-08-25 121901.png

lastly, this one is also tied (in any metric possible), so... yeah, we'll have to see!

in conclusion: i'll keep thinking over the coming weeks on how to best approach this pet mod proposal considering the purpose and goals of eternal pokemon, as well as how it interacts with other pet mods and can find its own niche. given the z-a regional dex option is currently tied for 1st with 3/6 first-place votes, i might want to slow down a bit as well on this process so that we have a bit more information about that game's regional pokedex before having the pet mod up, if it does end up being the preferred option to go forward. thank you so much for all your input, and as always i'm still all ears to any ideas or suggestions :D

---

...aaand right after i was done with typing this i realized another thing that i honestly overlooked for like, over 7 years at this point '^^ eternal floette can only have flower veil, in the internal game code it does not have a hidden ability, which makes sense since it's a one-of-a-kind pokemon, so of course it can only possibly have one ability! so what does this mean for previous and new eternal pokémon...? assuming previous ones return, many of them were designed to interact with one of their abilities, and sometimes that was the hidden ability. also for pokemon that have two-non hidden abilities, i think it would be incredibly arbitrary to just pick the one in the first slot, even though that has no relevance in-game, outside of it showing up first in the game's code.

my proposal is for every eternal pokémon submission to choose one of its abilities (when it has more than one, of course) to be the one the eternal pokémon is immortalized as. i think this is a good solution with zero collateral and it makes sense. the flavor we're going with here is that the ultimate weapon eternalized these pokemon as their not-final evolutions and increased their power, so it's just as likely that the ultimate weapon could have eternalized a heliolisk with dry skin, sand veil, or solar power, for instance!

now you could make a point about ability capsules and patches, to be able to flavorfully have the same eternal helioptile be able to have multiple abilities. ability capsules did exist in xy, but they would have had no effect on a floette that only has one non-hidden ability. but this option would:
  1. imply changing eternal floette for consistency, or have it be an outlier, neither of which is something i would want to do
  2. kinda go against the "eternal" aspect of it, right? the whole thing about this pokemon is that it's been 3000 years and they haven't changed, because the ultimate weapon froze them in a state of perpetualness, just like lysandre's dream! i think having these pokemon be able to change something significant about them goes slightly against the point!
so this is where i'm at in regards to abilities! i'm honestly kinda embarassed i never noticed this until now, but i guess without floette ever being released and with honestly either of its abilities being basically useless, it just never really came up all that much i guess. if you have an opinion on this matter do let me know in this thread or on discord at .lydian, and that's that! thanks for reading :D

:landorus:Three Wishes:landorus:
What is Three Wishes all about? Three Wishes is an OU-based format centered around balancing Pokemon for OU viability by way of three - and only three - adjustments. This is intended to force creativity the adjustment process and mandates that all added options be focused and effective.

How will this work?
- Each round of submissions will begin with the "Genies" (any participating users) selecting the Pokemon they would like to adjust. The Pokemon in question can either be OU legal or Ubers, with the only stipulation being that the adjustments must intend to make a Pokemon OU viable (i.e. not completely overpowered). Genies may create as many submissions as they wish as long as these requirements are met. However, any given Pokemon can only be submitted once, so be careful what you wish for.
- Each legal wish falls under one of six categories:
- Movepools additions comprise of any one move added to a Pokemon's moveset that it does not already learn.
- Ability changes refer to giving a Pokemon an ability in addition to or in place of one that it already has.
- Type changes refer to giving a Pokemon a different typing, whether that would be adding or removing a secondary typing or a completely different typing entirely.
- Signature element changes comprise of any adjustments made to a Pokemon's signature move, ability, or item
- Stat buffs and nerfs comprise of a increase or decrease of 50 points to a Pokemon's BST, distributed however the Genie sees fit.
- Stat redistrubition refers to any reallocation of a Pokemon's stat points that does not affect its BST.
- It is important to note that Genies can only grant wishes possible in the base game, meaning that no original elements, signature or otherwise, are permitted in this mod.
- Once submissions are finished, the Genies will have the chance to vote on which of their wishes are implemented. Genies may cast their votes for as many submissions as they so choose, and the submissions with the top five most votes will be implemented.

Here is an example of what a legal submission may look like!
banette.gif
Banette
First Wish - Change typing to Ghost/Fighting
Second Wish
- Add Close Combat to its moveset
Third Wish - Add 8 Attack, 42 Speed
Explanation
- Very straightforward buffs here. Gives Banette an unresisted STAB combo and two strong STAB options (Polt, CC) to throw around. 42 Speed gets it past Iron Treads and Enamorus and 8 Attack lets it OHKO Scarf Ghold with +2 Spell Tag Shadow Sneak. Still suffers from immense frailty, but these changes let it make use of its surprisingly deep utility kit and take full advantage of staples like Skarm, Corv, Glowking, non-Tera Fairy Garg, and Ting-Lu.
Justification - Banette is a complete shitmon that has not been even remotely viable in anything since Generation 3. In addition to this, it hasn't received much of anything over the years to truly compensate for this save for Swords Dance this generation, which sadly hasn't done much to save it. Hell, even Mega Evolution didn't really do much to save, literally being designed to be death fodder (which it was already if it was ever used, but that's besides to point). Yeah, Ghost/Fighting has a very spotty track record in recent gens, but even with these changes, Banette is still not as fast as Marshadow or nearly as oppressive as Annihilape. Ideally, these changes make Banette a high-risk-high-reward breaker that can carve out a nice for itself against the other dominant Ghosts of the tier.

Thanks for checking this out! Feel free to leave suggestions if you have any!

Hello everyone. Further to a comment of one of OM mods saying my OM suggestion looked more like a PetMods idea, I'd like to know your opinion about this :

MAVERICKS CHALLENGE

Premise :
The way moves are executed is reversed.

1) Moves that last one turn behave as follows -> first the effect/backlash, then the attack (if physical or special) :
Pivot moves instantly make the user switch (no hit) while moves like Dragon Tail force the opponent to switch out then hit the next one
Knock Off and Fling make the target lose their item first (so Fling is basically unusable)
Spit up and Swallow make the user lose its Stockpile count (+ boosts) without making damages/healing
Draining moves like Giga-Drain, Matcha Gotcha or Drainig Kiss always remove 1 HP before hitting, Strength Sap first lets the user heal the amount of HP proportional to the target's Att, then drop its Att.
Moves with recoil damages like Flare Blitz or Take Down inflict 1 HP to users before hitting
2) Moves that last more than one turn :
Doom Desire and Future Sight will inflict damages but one can't use them for the next two turns
The likes of Solar Beam or Meteor Beam now work the same as Hyper Beam or Giga Impact, and vice versa. Bide works like Metal Burst but the user can't move next two turns
Bounce, Dig, Dive, Fly, Phantom Force and Shadow Force let the users hit first then "hide" next turn
3) Effects are independant from moves accuracy, which means it's possible to annoy opponents without being able to hit.
For example, Rapid Spin let users remove hazards while doing no damages against Ghost-type foes. However, if the effect itself has a probability lower than 100% to happen then it'll be taken into account.
4) The following moves are not affected by the mechanic :
Axe Kick | High Jump Kick | Supercell Slam => still inflict 50% recoil if missing.
Beak Blast => still need contact to burn the target ;
Clangourous Soul | Fillet Away | Substitute => loses HP after setup, can't repeat if HP are too low ;
Explosion | Final Gambit | Lunar Dance | Memento | Misty Explosion | Self-Destruct => users always faint at the end ;
Fell Stinger => can't boost the user if it doesn't knock the target out ;
Outrage | Raging Furry | Thrash => confusion comes after the hits.
Endless Battle Clause
Evasion Clause
Freeze Clause : only one Pokemon can be frozen
OHKO Clause
Sleep Clause : sleep moves are banned
Species Clause
Arena Trap
Contrary
Moody
Sand Veil
Snow Cloack
Shadow Tag
Clear Powder
King's Rock
Baton Pass
Dire Claw
Last Respects
Relic Song
Shed Tail
Uber Tier list, even more to come
Q1 : How do effects take place when they're multiple ?
A1 : The last one becomes the first one, and so on.

Q2 : How Shield Dust and Covert Cloak work under this mechanic ?
A2 : They don't work anymore (lol). To be accurate, as they're supposed to ignore secondary effects of offensive moves, they can't do it in these special circumstances because the effects come first.

I deliberately left the draft as is, only corrected a tiny mistake and removed the questions for community and Resources (Playability, Council). Now, regarding the 4th rule, truth is I wanted to ban the moves rather than make them exceptions. I'm neither familiar with PetMods, nor a regular player of it, so this may be out of place.

No worries, this thread has had quite a few discussions about Pet Mod qualifications of late. To keep things simple on my end, I’ll reference a prior post I made here about what I could gather about different mod types.
from my understanding:
If I’m understanding your concept correctly, this concept seems more like an OM that doesn’t quite fit OM criteria, which would mean this concept would fall more in line with Solomods.
Further to a comment of one of OM mods saying my OM suggestion looked more like a PetMods idea
I took a quick look at your posting history to find this conversation, and I saw you brought up this concept’s code-ability, I’d recommend joining the Pet Mods Discord (found in the following linked post) and asking our coders about the feasibilities of coding mechanical changes like these.

On an entirely separate note, when I was finding the conversation you had on OMs, I had also run across this post of yours:
Hello, I have a format concept similar to CAP but instead of Pokémon it's items... Whom should I get in touch with about my project ? Thanks in advance.
This would actually be a Pet Mod concept lol. In past generations we’ve had mods like Item Factory which accomplish something similar to this effect, although I don’t recall any Gen 9 mods focused solely on making new items approved quite yet.

I'll do a more detailed version in Solomods then, hope it'll fit.

I saw that the mod is dead, and given the circumstances I should probably not revive it :blobthinking:.

:pheromosa: Back to the Past :ninjask:

Pet Mod Concept: Porting mons and moves from newer generations back into RBY while trying to maintain a general RBY style.
Explanation: Any mon or move from gens 2-9 will be able to be changed and submitted into the metagame as long as it follows general RBY mechanics and style. Something like U-turn or Stealth Rocks would not be allowed in, but something like Parting Shot or Dragon Tail might be, despite it being impossible to do on cartridge. There will be no attempt to keep current RBY OU mons in their current viability, but it will still be balanced around RBY OU powerlevel.
