Resource Pet Mods Workshop Thread

:sv/gholdengo: Last 'Mon Standing :sv/great-tusk:
Not sure if this would count as a Pet Mod, but I'll go ahead and put it here.

Pet Mod Concept: A Pet Mod where a select amount of the highest-usage Pokemon (and maybe items as well?) are removed from the format entirely. At the beginning of the mod, a tournament is created, in which the Pokemon that were used the most in THAT tournament are removed from the format, and the cycle repeats. This was mainly inspired by Farfa's Last Card Standing series, though maybe this mod would work better with a different name (eg. Sudden Death?)
Explanation: At the start of the mod, the top Pokemon in usage are banned from the metagame. We're going to be using either SV OU or SV National Dex as our starting point. I have yet to decide how many Pokemon get removed at the start of the meta, though I'm thinking 5-20 Pokemon to start off with depending on the metagame chosen. Assuming we're eliminating the Top 10, here are the most used Pokemon from May 2026:
:great-tusk: Great Tusk
:kingambit: Kingambit
:gholdengo: Gholdengo
:dragonite: Dragonite
:iron-valiant: Iron Valiant
:dragapult: Dragapult
:ogerpon-wellspring: Ogerpon-Wellspring
:gliscor: Gliscor
:corviknight: Corviknight
:zamazenta: Zamazenta
:landorus-therian: Landorus-Therian
:great-tusk: Great Tusk
:gholdengo: Gholdengo
:alomomola: Alomomola
:ferrothorn: Ferrothorn
:kingambit: Kingambit
:garchomp: Garchomp
:gliscor: Gliscor
:corviknight: Corviknight
:volcarona: Volcarona
(Note: Megas of the aforementioned Pokemon will also be banned if they have any, if the SV Natdex format is chosen)
From there, the mod will have a quick discussion and playtesting phase, mainly to check for any broken Pokemon that may also need to be banned, and for people to get a grasp of what the new meta will be like.
Once metagame discussion is complete, a double-elimination bracket tournament will be opened to determine the usage rates for the next metagame. Those usage rates will be used to remove the most-used Pokemon in the next meta, and so on and so forth. Additionally, the winners of each tournament can choose to ban an additional Pokemon (and maybe an item?) from the format.
Miscellaneous: Since there might be quite a bit of community opinion over what goes and what doesn't, here's a few questions for how this'll play out:
  • What format should the metagame be based around? OU? National Dex? Maybe even a completely different format?
  • Should there be any additional bans beside Pokemon? If so, what could be banned? Items are the main choice, though I'm not sure if items should also be procedurally banned as time goes on.
  • How many Pokemon should be banned on the first wave? Would thinning out more Pokemon over time lead to a more unique meta?
  • Should there be any other measures taken as to make sure that certain playstyles aren't too overbearing on the metagame?

this is very close to Banhammers, which uses player submissions instead of usage. would do some brainstorming to figure out how to make the final product meaningfully distinct even if the routes to get there are different

Robin 'Mon (name pending lol)
A Quick Summary: Robin 'Mon is a pet mod where people take stats, moves, or abilities from powerful Pokemon, and transfer them to weaker ones. This format is mostly to give Pokemon who could be really use just a slight nudge in the right direction to become very powerful.
Explanation: This format uses SV OU, meaning no megas unfortunately, as they would complicate this format a bit too much. Either Bi Weekly or every month, (depends on what would work better), The Top 5 best Pokemon in the format are nerfed. The community then gets to pick 5 UU/UUBL Pokemon to be buffed to OU tier (obviously with a brief playtesting phase and a quality check to make sure it's fun to play). By a few months into this pet mods lifespan, the meta should be completely different.

Some Questions Feedback Wise:
- Would this have enough impact to effect the meta in a meaningful way?
- Should UUBL be eligible for buffs?
- Should more than 5 'Mon be changed? Should less be?
My last contributions were..... Strange, to say the least, but this time I think i truly do understand what Pet Mods are all about and I would really appreciate some feedback on this one.

Pet Mod Name: Categories
Pet Mod Concept: People will play a round of Categories and collect points. Those points can be used to create a Fakemon.
Explanation: Every slate will have a game of Categories with 6-8 categories you need to fill out. In case you don't know how to play it, you will be given a letter and you have fill out the categories with words that start with that letter. Usually you play it with categories like City, Country and River. For example, you could have the letter "A" and fill out those categories as Amsterdam, Austria and Amazon River. If someone as an answer that no one else has, they will get more points and people that share the same answer will get less.

Here we will do it with Pokemon categories like "Starter", "Legendary", "Move" or some unique things like "Fire-type Pokemon" or "Gen 2 exclusive item". The play phase will last one day and afterwards the results are revealed. Depending the answers given, you will receive points and those can be used to create a Fakemon. There have been PetMods before with "shop" system, where aspects of a Pokemon (moves, abilities, etc) will have a cost. Creative answers results in potentially more points and thus more freedom in Fakemon creation.

As an extra I also thought about including vanilla mons that can be changed with the points, although here, a second "currency" has to be added.

After all Pokemon are submitted, a small discussion will take place where we will source out potentially broken elements. I'd like to aim at a Gen 9 OU power level, but I still want to keep creativitiy and fun alive, so borderline cases would be more accepted. As long as it isn't a Mega Rayquaza with Contrary the sub should be fine.

The timeline of a slate would be:
  • Play Phase: Players play Categories (1-2 Days, leaning more towards one day)
  • Submission Phase: You create your submission and submit it. This can be done in the thread (3-4 Days)
  • Discussion Phase: Subs will be discussed and potentially problematic things will be removed (1-2 Days, leaning towards one day)

I plan to do a slate for every letter in the latin alphabet. The order will be randomized though. There won't be 26 Slates though, since letters like X, Y and Z will have very few answers, so they will either not be a slate or be combined for one slate.

Miscellaneous: I'd be the coder for this and main organizer, but unlike Ubermons or Mega Revolution, I'd need help with organizing, prize pools and discussions.

Things to figure out:
  1. Categories for Categories and a list of what counts for what Category
  2. Point system for Categories and how much shared answers loose
  3. Prize Pools and the potential second currency for editing vanilla mons
  4. Organizational aspects of the play phase, submission phase and discussion phase

Created Power Randoms (name pending)

Pet Mod Concept: Users will submit modified mons with specific sets intended to be played in Shared Power Random Battle (bring 12, pick 6).

Explanation: Anyone who’s played Shared Power Randoms B12P6 can attest to its addictiveness. It’s so fun because you’re rolling for a roster of abilities, then picking the strongest ones with the best synergy to beat your opponent. Or maybe you are bringing abilities that counter your opponent’s strategy? If you roll Drought + Protosynthesis, you definitely need to bring it, yeah? But maybe they will bring their own mon with Chlorophyll or Cloud Nine to counter you. In that case, you shouldn’t bother bringing those… unless they expect you not to, right? Perhaps simply bringing a strong mon that doesn’t contribute a useful ability will be what ties your team together? This is all part of the fun.

This Pet Mod would use that concept with a fresh new palette of mons to pull from, while resolving some of the issues with distribution the standard format faces to make it more fun. In standard SPRB(B12P6), weather-abusing abilities like Swift Swim don’t typically generate unless the mon itself has a means of utilizing it. Some rare and powerful abilities like Opportunist can never be utilized due to not being favourable on the mon that gets it. And Regenerator mirror matches can easily spiral out into an unfun endless battle. Since we would be able to curate the abilities that enter the meta, Created Power Randoms can hopefully be even more fun to play.

Submission Process:
Users would submit a custom mon with their preferred stats, type, and sets they would want this mon to generate with. I’m toying with ideas of how we would accomplish this. Ideally I’d say each submitted mon could have 1-3 sets each with 4-6 possible moves to choose from, prioritizing STAB options; any less than that, and the meta could feel too samey. Oh, each set would have balanced EVs like in Random Battles, but with no level scaling.
:baxcalibur:
Pokemon: Baxcalibur
Type: Dragon / Ice
Stats: 95 / 130 / 80 / 75 / 115 / 85

Set 1 Ability: Flash Fire
Set 1 Item: Assault Vest
Set 1 Potential Moves: Icicle Crash, Knock Off, Earthquake, Ice Shard, Glaive Rush, U-turn

Assault Vest Baxcalibur would act as a solid pivot, so long as you can keep hazards off. If you roll Magic Guard (from a previous submission), that’s not really a concern. Flash Fire lets it operate more effectively as a pivot into Fire attacks while supporting the team by covering their weaknesses.

Set 2 Ability: Slush Rush
Set 2 Item: Heavy-Duty Boots
Set 2 Potential Moves: Icicle Crash, Swords Dance, Earthquake, Knock Off, Ice Shard, Glaive Rush

This offensive Baxcalibur would be a great mon to take advantage of the Snow Warning mon added on the previous submission. You could also bring it to counter opposing Slush Rush Baxcalibur, or whenever you need a solid sweeper!

Questions:
  • Do you think the meta should have custom elements? Custom abilities would allow for some crazy combinations and unexplored territory, but it might make the meta less accessible.
  • Would it be worth banning certain abilities from being submitted?
  • How many mons should we aim to end up with in the final mod? Depending on the number of sets each mon has, it could increase the variety.

Premise: The first letter of each of your team members spell out a word that activates an effect for your team. Additionally, the first letter of each move in a Pokemon's moveset also activates an effect for that Pokemon.

Base Format: Gen 9 National Dex OU

Battle Format Rules:
  • Team Cheat Codes:
    • Team Cheat Codes are active and always announced starting from the beginning of Turn 1.
    • Team members must be in the correct order.
    • Cheat Codes only take species name into account. Form names (-Hisui, -Incarnate, -Wash, -Busted, etc.) are not taken into account.
    • If a Cheat Code is less than 6 letters long, your team cannot have extra members outside the ones that spell out the Code.
  • Moveset Cheat Codes:
    • Moveset Cheat Codes are active and announced on switch-in.
    • Moves must be in the correct order.
    • If a Cheat Code is less than 4 letters long, your Pokemon cannot have extra moves outside the ones that spell out the Code.

Submission Rules:
  • Team Cheat Codes:
    • Can be 1-6 letters long.
  • Moveset Cheat Codes:
    • Can be 1-4 letters long.
  • General Rules:
    • May only be words from the English Dictionary, or commonly known words/abbreviations.
    • May only use letters, as no Pokemon or moves start with a number or special character.
    • Effect can be anything except
      • Creation of new move flags
      • Creation of new variables (no Fishing Tokens)
      • Creation of new field effects/weathers/terrains
      • Anything I deem unbalanced or uncompetitive
    • Goes without saying, but follow Smogon Guidelines. No slurs or other inappropriate language.
Team Cheat Code: CHEATS
Effect: This team has x1.3 accuracy and doubled critical hit chance.

Team Cheat Code: CODE
Effect: This Pokemon gains the Download ability.
Justification: Strong AF effect, but O is lowkey a very uncommon letter, its main contributions being Overheat and Outrage.

Example Sets:
:ss/infernape:
Infernape @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

Pet Mod Name: Three Moves Metagame
Pet Mod Concept: Could be any metagame, but we’re picking VGC where you all can only bring Pokémon that must know three moves.
Explanation: Could be unimaginable or could just be a short test of a metagame if a Pokémon is depending too much on one move or more.
Miscellaneous: We think the Kang set would have to know 3 moves, Mega Metagross players would decide what coverage to run, Mega Charizard Y would probably drop Heat Wave. ‘Stuff like that.

Pet Mod Name: Fusion-Split-Evolution
Pet Mod Concept: Add stat boosts, moveset, abilities and type changes from one "Evolution-Strain" and add it to a different LC/NFE Pokemon as a new Split-Evolution (Could be used for a new Evolution for low BST fully evolved Pokemon too maybe?)
Format Base:
Gen9 NatDex (+Champions/-Tera/-Z-Moves)
Explanation:
- You can use any official LC/NFE (or "low BST" fully evolved-) Pokemon as a "DNA-Base" (example: Ivysaur) that undergoes a Split-Evolution different from its official counterpart and add a different Pokemon's evolution growths as an "Evolution-Strain"
(example: Corviquire->Corviknight).
- To get the stats of the Fusion, you simply apply the base stats of your DNA-Base and add the stat increases from an Evolution-Strain.
- The Fusion's type keeps the type of the DNA-Base and only adds a change to its typing if the Evolution-Strain includes one too.
(example: Corviquire->Corviknight adds a secondary Steel Type on evolution).
- The Ability is a combination of both the DNA-Base and the Evolution-Strain's final stage (similar to As-One from Calyrex). Unique Ability synergy can be added instead (similar to Fusion-Evolution).
- Fusions may have multiple abilities assuming no Ability repeats in multiple combinations.
(example: You cannot add Mirror Armor together with both Overgrowth and Chlorophyll).
- The Moveset of the fusion combines both the DNA-Base's- and the Evolution-Strain's final stage's Gen9 NatDex + Champions moveset.
- The fusion can use a Mega-Stone if it matches either DNA-Base's original final stage or Evolution-Strain's final stage. Mega-Evolution is applied with Mix-and-Mega rules.
(example: Ivyknight can use Venusaurite since the DNA-Base is Ivysaur and normally evolves to Venusaur).
- Any Combination of official pokemon is allowed as long as the result is balanced.
- Submission and Voting similar to Fusion Evolution.

DNA-Base: Ivysaur
Evolution-Strain: Corviquire->Corviknight (+30 HP/+20 Atk/+50 Def/+10 SpAtk/+30 SpDef/-10 Speed/+Secondary Steel Type) [BST:+130]
Fusion Name: Ivyknight
New Types: Grass/Steel
Base Stats: 90/82/113/90/110/50 [BST:535]
Ability: Overgrown Armor (Mirror Armor + Overgrow) / Unnerving Chlorophyte (Unnerve + Chlorophyll)
Ability Description: Effects of both abilities. / Effects of both abilities.

Mega-Stone: Venusaurite
Fusion Name: Ivyknight-Mega
New Types: Grass/Steel
Base Stats: 90/100/153/112/130/50 [BST:635] (+18 Atk, +40 Def, +22 SpAtk, +20 SpDef) [BST:+100]
Ability: Thick Fat

Miscellaneous: Not sure how Pet Mod submissions work here, just figured ill add my idea here for now and see what happens. But any improvement recommendations are welcome!

This part is identical to an Other Meta, Cross Evolution.
1000001845.png

Obviously the other elements can help it be a more unique meta, but it feels like it needs something that can distinguish it from CE a little more (maybe being able to rearrange the stat numbers, i.e. you give the -10 Spe of Corv to the Atk instead, and the Atk boost would go to a different stat, etc)

huh, didnt know this was already a metagame, interesting

Pet mod name: Pokemon mega experience
Pet mod concept: every fully evolved pokemon has a mega (maybe male combee and salandit get a mega to
Extra, NOT THE PET MOD: ROM hack where you go through every region and fight rogue mega evolutions (just the titan fights but now they are megas) and side quests
Edit: here are some drawings, (ignore the bad drawing and handwriting)

Interesting. Very interesting. Unfortunately this is not a pet mod submission as you directly said this is a rom hack idea.

This mod already exists (albeit it has gone inactive, just a heads up to not necro post in that thread)

Sounds fun
Just realized you quoted only the very bottom of the thread in your post and it was from the submissions thread so you might wanna edit your post to include the whole thing. I don’t mind having it posted here, I figured I wouldn’t get any feedback so that’s why I didn’t post it here too

:torkoal::pelipper: Battlefield Blitz :indeedee-f::pincurchin:

Concept: Weathers and terrains are cool, but most of them are painfully under-utilized, let's change that.

Explanation: This is a petmod focused around making weathers and/or terrains more impactful. Each slate people could submit new moves, items, or abilities that interact with weathers or terrains, or possibly new ones altogether. The goal is to make every weather feel multidimensional and impactful, while also giving players the tools for meaningful counterplay.

Examples
Item:
Pocket Sand: Upon switch-in, the item is consumed to throw sand at the opponent, lowering their Speed by one stage. Recycles in sandstorm (like how Harvest works with berries in sun. You need to switch out and back in to throw the fresh sand) This item would give Sand a more splashable speed control option, being able to act like a Choice Scarf without being locked into a move, at least until your opponent switches out. It would also give teams a speed control option vs Sand, being able to slow down fast pokemon like Sand Rush Excadrill, especially if used on a Regenerator pokemon like Alomomola that could reliably switch in and out to cycle speed drops.

Move:
Lumber Chop: Steel, Slicing, Contact, 80 BP. The pokemon swings a claw or such like a lumberjack's axe. If used in Grassy Terrain, the pokemon instead chops down a berry tree and lets the felled tree hit the opponent. This causes the move to lose the Slicing property and become non-contact, instead granting the user one positive berry effect after all other effects of the move finish.

Ability:
Faerie Circle: The pokemon automatically restores 1/16th of its maximum HP while in Misty Terrain, and is immune to powder moves, because of its affinity with the mushrooms that form Faerie Circles.

New Weather:
Absolute Zero: This is a Primal version of Snow, so all effects that work with Snow, such as Slush Rush, Ice Body, or Aurora Veil work with this, in addition to Ice-types getting a 1.5x boost to Defense. In addition to this, Fire-type moves deal half damage, non-Ice type pokemon lose 1/16th of their max HP at the end of each turn, burns cannot be inflicted, and moves that can inflict Freeze deal 1.3x damage.

No Longer Useless

Concept: Lets make all moves the same power! By nerfing them!

Explanation: Pokemon Showdown splits moves into three categories: Moves, Usually Useless Moves, Useless Moves. The idea of this format is that every move is nerfed to get its power down to the Useless Moves category while keeping its original idea of the move cannot change but Base Power, PP, Accuracy, Typing, Effects and Category can. A community would be given 5-10 moves to nerf and each person would nerf whatever moves they wanted while giving an explanation. Later, the community would then vote on which nerf was the best for the meta. Only moves in the useless category or now in the useless category would be usable.

Examples:

Scald: 40 Base Power. Typing: Fire. PP: 24. Effect: 30% chance to burn, thaws target. Category: Special. Accuracy: 100.
Lower Base Power and now fire type. Loses its power to make it a riskier move to run as well as becoming fire type to make many water types lose STAB on the move.

Close Combat: 60 Base Power. Typing: Fighting. PP: 8. Effect: Lowers users Speed, Defense and Special Defense by one stage. Category: Physical. Accuracy: 90
Lower BP. Here to show that it's not a "make pp 60 and call it a day" meta. Lower PP so you can't keep clicking it and you get slower after every attack, making it much less spammable and leaves you more open to a counterattack as well as the 90 accuracy allowing you to be killed if you whiff.

Defog: Typing: Flying. PP: 8. Effect: Removes hazards, screens and terrain on both sides of the field. Lowers users Evasion by two stages. Category: Status. Accuracy: 95
Makes the user easier to hit after removing hazards. Due to how inaccurate some moves are in this format, lowering your evasion is very bad but a sacrifice must be made for hazard removal.

With the continued success of Mix and Mega - Limited Supply, I am considering making a new spin-off in the near future; Cross Evolution - Limited Supply. This would use the mechanics of Cross Evolution (mentioned above in this thread, but you can find the Cross Evolution thread here) which would be interesting to see implemented into a Pet Mod.

My issue is deciding which of the following would be the better way to go about it.

Option 1) Similar to this run of Mix and Mega - Limited Supply, make it a RandBats format where each Pokemon gets their choice of evolution and is locked into a single set with one ability and four moves.

Option 2) More akin to something like Fusion Evolution, folks would turn their Cross Evolutions into fakemons, and we would have a format specifically built around those Cross-Evolved Fakemons.

I think both formats could work, and my experience with MnM-LS these past few months should allow me to properly balance the format as I implement it, and I already have some ideas in mind of appropriate restrictions to balance certain powerful bases and evolutions.

Would appreciate some thoughts as to which one would be more fun to participate in, both as a player and as a submitter.

I personally think option 2 is just a cool way to bring FE back basically. so yeah as someone who missed out on FE I want option 2!

would be cool to see cross evolution and fusion evolution get combined in an interesting way, could be similar to my previous suggestion with a few changes to make option 2 submissions less restrictive (for example type of the fusion needs to share a type of each bases instead of following evolution logic).

Pet Mod Name: vaporemons V2
Pet Mod Concept: vaporemons but again! Subbing custom and reworked items, abilities and moves and Pokemon adjustments into sv ou!
Explanation: it's been a while since we had a basic, run of the mill, pet mod for sv. How about we just do vaporemons again from the start up!
Miscellaneous: notes: this starts from sv ou and not from vaporemons as it's basis. So this isnt a continuation but an "alternative universe"

Pet Mod Name: Paradoxal Evolutions
Pet Mod Concept: Turning Paradox Pokémon into directly connected to the Pokémon, be it through a new stage evolution or a branched evolution, or an alternative form for Legendary Pokémon, on a case by case basis for a new SV meta.
Explanation:
  • With an Ancient Crystal and a Future Crystal, some Pokémon will be changed into Paradox Pokémon with a different name (their official name stays as an in-universe nickname), less specialized stat distribution, not all having access to Protosynthesis (for Ancient) or Quark Drive (for Future), but depending on the species, have more than one Ability. The only thing unchanged about them is their type combination.
    • Koraidon and Miraidon’s stats and respective Ability will not be changed by virtue of them being Legendary Pokémon. The evolution methods may also be different for Cyclizar.
  • The following Pokémon receive their Paradox counterpart as a new stage evolution; their new specific BST varies depending on the Pokémon’s own tools, type and movepool: :donphan::amoonguss::delibird:
  • The following Pokémon receive their Paradox counterpart as an alternative evolution on top of their official one, matching the BST of the official evolution: :jigglypuff::misdreavus::larvesta::magneton::shelgon::makuhita::zweilous::pupitar::kirlia:
    • The reason why Makuhita is put here is due to concerns on Hariyama holding an Evolite despite the latter’s BST not reaching the likes of Volcarona or the pseudo-legendary Pokémon; this may change by the poll result and the opinion by the experts. The rest of them either have Paradox Pokémon based on the not fully evolved Pokémon, based on a Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon, Volcarona already having 550 BST, or in Iron Valiant’s case, a mix of Gardevoir and Gallade.
    • As part of the slate with Scream Tail, Wigglytuff may be allowed to have one Ability change since Scream Tail would be built to be viable.
  • The following Legendary Pokémon receive their Paradox counterpart as an alternative form and share their respective signature move: :suicune::virizion::entei::raikou::cobalion::terrakion:
  • As stated before, Koraidon and Miraidon will be unchanged aside of Cyclizar receiving a new evolution method for those, and the latter receiving Eviolite compatibility.
  • Alongside the Legendary-based Paradox Pokémon, only one or two Pokémon receives Protosynthesis, and same goes for Quark Drive; which Pokémon receive it will depends on experts’ opinion. This is done to reduce overlaps in terms of Ability, and to further promote diversity of each Paradox Pokémon in terms of playstyle.
Miscellaneous: Given this is based on SV OU, Terastalization will be taken into account. The power level might be lower than normal due to most Paradox Pokémon being nerfed overall, although the submissions must take the OU Viability Rankings into account.
