Physical attacking Cherrim?

Now, before you dismiss this as nOOb talk, hear me out.

Flower Gift boosts the Attack and Special Defense of Cherrim, and its partner in 2v2, by 1.5. So I got to thinking, maybe this set could work;

Cherrim @Salac Berry
Adamant
252 Atk./252 Spd/6 sp. def.
Razor Leaf
Natural Gift
Return
Sunny Day

Natural Gift, under Salac Berry, becomes an 80 power fighting move, and increases a max speed Cherrim's speed by 1 stage, bringing it to 403.5 (not sure if I calculated that correctly). Sunny Day then brings Cherrim's 240 Attack stat to 360. With 403 speed and 360 attack, Cherrim could do some serious sweepage in the next couple of turns. Walled by ghosts, yes, and steel types after Natural Gift is gone, but I'm thinking it's something to consider.

I may be mistaken, but it's to my understanding that once you use Natural Gift you not only lose the berry, but you also fail to activate it's respective boost.

Atop of that, I'm also under the impression that if you activate Salac Berry, Natural Gift will fail as there will technically be no berry being held.

If this is indeed the case, I could see your set facing some serious problems before it had the chance to set up properly. Either way, it's creative thinking which is something I always encourage, thanks for sharing.

Honestly, 360 Attack is pathetic if it is after a boost, and having a STAB move that is only 55 base power is even worse. Also, you can't have both the Speed boost and the Natural Gift; once Salac is used up, you can't use Natural Gift anymore, and if you use Natural Gift, the Salac is gone.

Grandly done.

Also, as you probably noticed, Cherrim has a horrible attack pool. Sunny day will only get you 4 attacks that are boosted, while plenty of things can Swords Dance or even Dragon Dance to get a better permanent boost.

This might work in NU. Maybe. Possibly. With a heat rock.

I've found it better in Doubles with Victreebel using Razor Leaf/Natural Gift (Occa Berry) with Cherrim using Helping Hand. It does best in Battle Revolution where battles tend to be shorter too, so losing the berry doesn't screw you up too bad before the battle ends.

I've done that. Except I used Shiftry instead of Victreebel.

But Cherrim is very, very limited. Other than Sunny Daying and Helping Handing (aka Double Battle usefulness), I don't think it will see any other use at all.

One sunny day and your opponent will know what you're up to, and switch in a physical wall. Gliscor, Weezing, Skarmory - they all wall this set so bad, it's not even funny...

It will be dismissed as "n00b talk" if you consider using this in OU or even UU. How would you possibly bring Cherrim in and expect it to safely set up Sunny Day? Even if Cherrim sets up Sunny Day, it will do pathetic damage with Razor Leaf. Also it is easily walled and outsped. There are much better grass types out there for OU. Tangrowth, Sceptile, Roserade, and Celebi come to mind. 3 of them provide much more to a team than Cherrim. Swords Dance and Focus Sash are probably better options for 1v1. Cherrim's movepool is pitiful as well.

Cherrim has the same trouble in 2v2. It's going to die to strong neutral hits. It needs to set up Sunny Day to even help its team mate. Perhaps if Flower Gift also boosted speed, then Cherrim could be useful. So this set is hardly usable except in NU.

IMO, the special attacking one will still do more damage than this physical attacking one, even with sunny day support.

The special attacking one can reach a max of 300 special attack and an 80 base power STAB Energy Ball or Grass Knot is going to do A LOT more than a 55 power STAB Razor Leaf. It also learns Growth to increase that and it can actually pull one or two off with its average defenses.

Yeah, and your Natural Gift thing doesn't work if you're trying to get the Salac Boost as well.

Sorry, but Cherrim's physical movepool is worse than Shaymin's of all things...but I suppose if you really want to use this set, to make it remotely useable, at least give it Swords Dance over Natural Gift so it can hurt things a little more.

When a set is completely walled by two whole types, there's something wrong. It's an idea that might have potential, and I like Cherrim, so I'm going to recommend on how to make this set a little better...

Like I said, Swords Dance over Natural Gift as I don't imagine you'll be using this much in OU. Most of the steel types you face there are part Rock besides Mawile. They will be taking neutral damage, but not much seeing as they have giant defense.

You might also consider taking out some speed EVs and putting them into HP or special defense to take advantage of Flower Gift's other boost with the 1.5x to special defense. It could help it take a few more hits to help it dish out a couple more as this honestly won't be OHKOing a lot of things with those low powered moves.

Actually, instead of Swords Dance over Natural Gift, you could also try Tickle as well since it could actually help support your team as well (one of the few things Cherrim is good at) to rack up the Stealth Rock/Spikes damage if you have that. It'll also help you hit harder while taking less from your unboosted defense.

I honestly like Cherrim as a special attacker/supporter, but if you want to try this then give it a try. Consider some of the tweaks I mentioned though. :]

No. For one, max 360 attack is crap, even when boosted. Natural Gift is dumb, since you lose the berry when you use it. Even if you want to use Physical Cherrim...Swords Dance is a much better option. Cherrim sucks anyway. Base 85 is scary speed. Scary to like, Snorlax. For that matter, Base 60 Attack is on par with Swampert's speed.

I don't see this being anthing other than a novelty. Not in any way, a good one, but a novelty nonetheless. For the sake of the topic though, you could vastly improve on this with Swords Dance. Have your teammate set up sunny day while Cherrim gets an SD up. This will put your boosted attack at about 600 which isn't too bad at all.

Attack-wise, Natural Gift is a one-off move, and you're wasting a stat-boost using Salac to NG with. Bad idea. This leaves Return and Razor Leaf as the only viable attacking options, the latter of which lacks power to begin with. Add Sub to help keep Cherrim alive and get a shot at Salac kicking in.

And to that, you're looking at:
Swords Dance
Return
Razor Leaf
Substitute

You'll be walled easily by Skarmory and other notable physical walls, and though it may surprise an opponent, no one's ever going to fall for it twice. No offense, but I'd be more inclined to laugh if I saw it done.

I do like Cherrim a lot in doubles. I use one myself in my sunny day team, though its role is purely support. Cherrim is dead in single battles, where even in UU it struggles on its own.

Natural Gift doesn't work like that, as said above. This set is moot. I guess discuss Cherrim from here on out :/

No they won't. No one expects a physical Cherrim. They'll think you're going to use a special Grass attack or HP Fire, which the pokemon you mentioned don't like as much. Great idea, too bad it doesn't work to well.

If you want a physical Cherrim that badly, use a mixed one with Nature Power on PBR:
