Pokémon Legends: Z-A General Discussion

While I was meandering around trying to find a bench (does it always feel like when you want a bench they're half way across the city lol), ran across this dialog
"Ooh, that pesky Galarian...Was he avenging his ancestors or what?"

I feel like I'm blanking here, who is this meant to be referring to? First thought was the twins, since they also had a social following, but avenging isn't..quite..how I would describe their behavior in the post game. It's also singular and I dunno if you'd bother singling out one brother over the other. So is it meant to be Rose? not quite how I would describe the darkest day in that regard. "Pesky" is also a bit, of an understatement.

Anyway getting through the last 5 ranks of royale to get 119 wasn't too bad. And it was worth it. Jacinthe............thank you. Such an honor.
Funnily enough even after those extra ranks I still did not reach 500 trainer victories

Otherwise good with walking away from the game. 52 hours by the end! I'll come back for Delphox & Chesnaught since it'll be done in a fraction of the time than Greninja.

I will say, though. That...I think I might have to build a second team for the DLC. I don't usually do that but, well, buying all the canari plush and then having to run through the Royale 15 times (much less the Jacinthe victory laps) all addedu p to everyone in their 90s. Bois is almost level 100. I don't think the DLC would be hard and Id probably still be overleveled for it but...
Not sure if you know or not, but they want a whole 1k. I gave up, I never shiny hunt really, and have tons from go.

I'm really getting a kick out of the trend of people not reading the quest dialogue properly and unintentionally handing away a shiny they found to the quest giver, lol.

the funniest part about that quest is you can keep fighting her as much as you want and it tallies. I've seen screenshots of someone on their 850th battle against Jacinthe, lmao

I'm pretty sure it'd have been Leon, he's mentioned through the game a couple times as having visited Lumiose very recently, Jacinthe mentions he showed up at the last SBC meetup to give a lecture during Le Super-Tournoi de Jacinthe, and Zach the cab driver has optional dialogue about how he got completely lost while driving Leon around despite normally being basically perfect with his accuracy. The avenging would just be a reference to the general history the the UK and France not getting along, Leon probably showed off during a tournament and won because he's Leon, and that's whats being referred to if I had to guess

I guess I can see the train of logic here but it feels pretty loose. Odd line of dialog.

Also occurred to me I never took any cabs beyond that one side quest so I just never see any of that dialog (I did like that you can spot Zach around town though, he's such a goober with his "ultimate letter" stuff)

Just did something I've never done before and completely rebuilt my team in the middle of the game(rank E). This game being so different from everything else meant a lot of my go-to stuff didn't quite work, and my team had developed organically in a way that was rough for coverage. Which was fine, but dang leveling back up to 40 took a minute.

I've thought about it and I've decided that Popplio should've been the water starter. I like Mega Feraligatr fine enough but Primarina would've not only fit the Kalos vibe swimmingly (heh) but also it would mean one more Alola Mega in the world and this would've infused me with joy and spread miracles across the globe. "But there would've been type overlap with Meganium" don't care.

it's okay it also would have changed to water/dragon and became totodile for its attack animations

I was going to say that Meganium should have been Grass/Dragon, which would have fixed the overlap, and then I looked it up. WOW is that a worse type combo defensively than Grass/Fairy. Fairy is stupid-good, and also nerfing Meganium is so natural I was ready to do it accidentally.

Also if they did this we'd miss out on the fun of having a Dragon Starter Mega for each type (Sceptile, Charizard X and Feraligatr)

gyarados and skarmory are insane

I used a Gyarados and it's the definition of a double-edge sword: it's good when it's good but if it goes up against something that can remotely tank it or there's any static around it's going down.

The only thing I remember about Skarmory I saw was I kept sniping them with Ampharos' Thunderbolt.

I feel they're fairly balanced, they're resilient in advantageous and somewhat neutral match-ups but if you can hit them where it hurts there's nothing they can do. Meanwhile Psuedos have bulk, power, and coverage; even if they go up against a weakness not only can they likely take a couple of hits but usually have a counter.

Then go with Intellion maybe?

Galar is just north of Kalos after all.

Give it Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Claw, *maybe* Twister (as an early move) to take advantage of the Dragon typing, bulk up it's defenses a bit, and improve it's SpAtk and Spe a bit as well and your good to go.

I finally got to A Rank in (Season 1 of) the Z-A Battle Club! :boi:

Since I'm A Rank that means I get a wish, right? :blobwizard:

I wish Pseudo Legendaries were banned from the Z-A Battle Club. :row:

Just curious since you only just did it, did you find it difficult or was it more of an afterthought?

I did take it "easy" in terms of progression (afterall there's only a couple of days left of this season), though near the end I did have to be more strategic in how I went about doing things (especially since I probably wasn't using Pokemon that were optimally built for this). Also I was being paired with Trainers of equal Rank so everyone pretty much knew what they were doing which includes switching out & Mega Evolving at the right moment (and some were even using dodging/running away tactics).

I began using more status Moves to buff up my Pokemon before entering a fray (Swords Dance, Calm Mind, Dragon Dance, Reflect, etc.) and switched to weaker but quicker performing Moves (notably Thunderbolt over Thunder). Didn't really use any status effects of opponent debuffing Moves, nor did I really see my opponents using them; since the goal is to KO your opponent as soon as possible not only would they be a fleeting help but you don't really want to help another player have an easier KO if you lose. I also decided to start sticking back and letting my opponents fight it out; either picking off the winner, kill stealing, or KOing them both. Finally I was keeping an eye out for those stat buffs, healing, and Mega orbs which appear on the field.

As you rank up it takes more points to get to the next rank, so near the end I was more focused on trying not to lose points rather then earning. Wonderful if I can get a 2nd or even 1st position, however my main goal was to at least get enough KOs so that is I get 3rd or 4th, and hopefully getting enough bonus achievements, I don't ever decrease in points (though it still happens if I get a "bad group", you know, like them all using GARCHOMPS AND METAGROSS).

In the end I essentially crawled my way into A Rank. I was completely focused on playing, not able to listen to anything in the background, cause any distraction means I pick the wrong move or get sneaked attacked (or at least more often). I personally found it more drawn out then difficult, and if you're someone easily frustrated you're not going to have a good time (only time I got really mad was when I was setup to do a 2 KO and a Glaceon out of nowehre froze my Excadrill with an Ice Beam).

Today, I finally beat the main game and saw the credits roll. It took a while as usual since I'm a slow player. I'm planning to write a long review with more in-depth thoughts on the game, but for now, let me just summarize my thoughts on the game with a picture:

This game was so much fun! I had a blast playing through it. I think this is the best Pokémon game from the last ten years, and it is my favorite Pokémon game on the Switch.

Meganium's movepool is also extremely strong in-game. The only types that resist both Grass and Fairy are Fire, Bug, Poison, and Steel. Of the ones available in this game, the only Pokemon that resist both Grass/Fairy are either (a) weak to Fire, Ground or Rock. There are 6 Bug/Poisons (Weedle and Scolipede lines), 9 Grass/Poisons (Bulbasaur, Bellsprout, and Budew lines), 2 Poisons (Trubbish line), 2 Fire (Charmander/Charmeleon), 3 Fire/Flying (Fletchinder/Talonflame and Charizard), 2 Fire/Normal (Litleo Line), 1 Steel/Flying (Skarmory), and 1 Steel/Bug (Scizor).

Fletchling and Bunnelby are available in Zone 1, and as soon as you reach rank V (i.e. before the first Rogue Mega) you can get a Charmander (and Charizard's megastones are purchasable from the beginning). Charmander's line can use the TMs for Dig and Rock Tomb until Earthquake and Rock slide become available (Numel/Camerupt is also available early--Zone 8), and Meganium can learn Earthquake/Power, and has insane bulk with Giga Drain. Really the only thing you need to be scared of with Meganium + Charmander is Gyarados, but you can pick up Mareep in Zone.

Generally Agree though you missed few Lines:
Spinarak/Ariados for Big/Poison
Fennekin/Braixen/Tepig/Pansear/Simisear/Flareon for purw Fire
Delphox for Fire/Psychic.

And yeah, EQ covers most. Imagine Ancientpowet being in game and Meganium having it...
