Like Vinc said after floor 10 or so the first thing you'll do on every floor is run into the nearest corridor and click perish song.

You wipe the entire floor in 3 turns and if something chases you into the corridor you can no-miss hypnosis then perish song right after.

Jynx starts off with sleep move + perish song as well, but Politoed's water typing lets it use water tiles as extra exits in a room to escape and perish song and there are occasionally rooms that are split apart by water tiles that Jynx cannot go through.

Does Perish Song not also kill the user in PMD? I would have figured it was one of those "worthless for the player, hell to deal with on the enemy" type moves. I never encountered it before in the ones I played

Started this game pretty late due to finals, just watched credits roll after beating Rayquaza. Can honestly say all the new updates to everything felt neutral or positive which I was not expecting at all given the direction the last two games in the series went in and my insane nostalgia for this game, but since I haven't fought the crazy hard postgame bosses that people seem to find over the top this fact might change. Some of my favorite changes were
  • Even if the bosses end up getting too hard, the concept of them taking up and covering more space with their attacks and special area of effect things went over quite well. It was a big surprise for Groudon to just spawn everyone around the arena but didn't feel unfair as much as fitting this massive encounter. I didn't really like how GtI and Super had their bosses go, but between contextless black blobs of feelings and Yveltal's insanely stupid Oblivion Wing, this convinced me it's the execution, not the idea
  • Haven't really seen people talking about how you can accept like 32 jobs and run into pretty much whatever dungeon you want. This is super cool, I love being able to both rack up 8+ jobs in one dungeon and still have jobs left over for tomorrow. In fact the whole entering the dungeon system and seeing all the mons in the dungeon and special encounters and extra chances for treasure and all that at once takes what could've been a supremely basic menu and really makes it work
  • Not being afraid to give Pokemon all the random moves they actually learn. The absolute variety in attacks enemy Pokemon can pull off doesn't feel like any other Pokemon game I've played where foes have carefully curated movesets that end up feeling fairly boring and tame. This is probably a pretty small thing for most people but I just can't remember the last time that my starter (Machop) was using Bullet Punch for the whole game while facing enemies tossing out Inferno and Leaf Storm and Shell Smash and whatever else. Individual enemies feel dynamic, varied, and generally more threatening (helped by a difficulty boost), even if they can be neutralized fairly well with good setup and planning
  • I like the camp and recruitment system and running around with 8 mons is pretty sick. My one gripe is that recruiting something that can't stay with you because you don't have the camp is really annoying and I'd rather you didn't have the option at all, but the whole system is a net positive anyway
  • Knowing all the enemies/items/npcs to rescue or give apples to kinda scared me at first, but this change generally works imo. It gives you the chance to strategize and plan for enemies all around and is a real godsend on all the escort missions, but I never felt like it significantly impacted the difficulty. Being able to plan for enemies and wanting to head for items isn't the same thing as avoiding all the enemies and getting a ton of good items. It does let you dodge monster houses more easily but like, fine. Good. Cool. They're not especially hard most of the time regardless, I did some intentionally because they can be very worth doing for the items and experience if you've got the right orb or can get a good corridor setup
  • Always being able to switch the leader. Also didn't click for a while but ended up being another change that provides a good tactical option that makes gameplay a lot more dynamic without being a massive power shift
Liked this even more than I expected, really looking forward to 100%ing the dex over the next week or two

Honestly I hadn't realize how broken Perish Song was... I should try that to grind missions in the Level 1 dungeons lol.

One of my biggest pet peeves so far in this game has been grinding Rare Qualities. I've been trying to get a Lonely Courage Relicanth for a week now and I've done so much Gummi farming to no avail. Definitely sets you back. I wonder if it's just better to go to the depths of Silver Trench, use a Rare Quality Orb, and farm Relicanth there...

This pissed me off so much today to the point where I just went to get Kecleon instead.

I remember when this was the ultimate thing to do in PMD... I'd say it only took like 30 minutes tops, preparation and all. The things in this game that modify recruitment rate are:

- Friend Bow (the only thing in the original)
- Squad Up (with its effect being maximized if you have a total of eight Pokémon, like I did)
- Friendly (gives a set bonus that increases recruitment chance)
- Inviting Orb

Of these 4, the only one I didn't have was Friendly (this is an absurdly rare... Rare Quality for some reason), and I still managed to recruit Kecleon; this means that its recruitment rate isn't abysmally low to the point where you need everything stacked in your favor to get it.

Still has a lot of HP (these in Southern Cavern have 600~ HP) and murderous moves with the usual double travel speed, but nothing has really changed in terms of how to prepare for them: Increase your Evasion (All Evasion Orbs) / Defenses / Offenses (Violent Seed), bring a healthy dose of Ethers / Elixirs, an Empowerment Seed for the Awakened status, a Pure Seed to escape to the stairs, an Escape Orb for the next floor and hope you can recruit it before the wind kicks you out.

For my Squad Up strategy, I brought a Forge a Path Charizard and created a tiny little room next to the shop, with a one way exit blocked by my Golduck using the "Wait There" tactic, because unfortunately things you recruit in dungeons default to "Let's Go Together". This protects my teammates from harm, maximizes my recruitment rate, and allows me to (double) slap the hell out of Kecleon en masse until one submits.

There's also wild Kecleon in the Joyous Tower, so if you want a "bigger" challenge in recruiting Kecleon, it's there.

No post after that one? Damn...

Well, here's something cooler.

After clearing Purity Forest with Lonely Courage Relicanth (BROMON), the last thing I had left to do was Wish Cave.

So I wanted to do it in style because Purity is just straight up harder... I also wanted to clear it first try.

And what better way to do so other than the completely busted Narrow Focus Politoed!

At level 5.

Without using a single Reviver Seed throughout the dungeon.

Granted, finding a Violent Seed + Earthquake TM in the Dungeon was what inspired me to go this route (even though you can just bring those items in). I brought a Ban Seed thinking Jirachi would use Rest, but it seems the remake's incarnation doesn't have it. Spamming Warp Wand / Stayaway Wand / Whirlwind Wand means Jirachi can't touch you because it has no AoE / Ranged moves. Rinse / repeat til it died!

Now the Grandmaster Rank...

I was doing a few missions to grind Drinks and I came across this:

Apart from that, I've lost the count of how many Rainbow and DX Gummies I've been using to give Heracross Rapid Bull's-Eyes...

That's what really annoys me about this game. Well, that and every move apparently having 50% accuracy regardless of what the bar says. Used about 30-ish Gummies to get Rapid Bull's-Eye on Cloyster, then tried to replace Bargain or whatever it was on Flygon and got Rapid Bull's-Eye on the first one smh.

Yung Dramps

awesome gaming
So y'know how in friend areas they use the classic DS/GBA-era sprites for the Pokemon there?

What is Sylveon's sprite like?

Anyway, been playing this game for nearly a month now and still have lots to do (Most recently, recruiting Mew using an elaborate set-up involving stayawaying it before one-shotting with False Swipe with Friendly + Full Squad Up boost). Really enjoying this game. Definitely not without flaws though, but enjoyable (For example the AI of recruits not yet joined while competent, can get really annoying at times. On one hand, Unowns trying and failing to beat other Unowns. On another, a Hypno deciding to take down a Mew by itself spamming Psybeam).

Echoing the above about Narrow Focus being pretty busted in general. For an alternative use for it, I have been using Narrow Focus Gliscor of late and it's probably one of the better Pokémon for recruiting in general (with a Friendly and Squad Up Pokémon to help). Gets Guillotine to one shot anything while in a corridor (that isn't a Ghost-type or has Sturdy), making it ideal for strong monsters and Kecleon, as well as getting recruits on early floors of level resets (has a chance to start with it, give up reset if you don't in Joyous/Purity or Escape Orb reset in Wish Cave). It also gets Swords Dance + False Swipe, False Swipe increasing the recruitment chance of anything you take out with it and Swords Dance for buffing its power. Also gets Acrobatics which becomes really lethal after a few Power-Up Drinks, making it good for boss killing. Swords Dance / Acrobatics / Guillotine being learnable for free means you can be flexible, but Swords Dance / False Swipe / Guillotine / Acrobatics is what I've been using in general. Definitely going to use this as part of a strategy to recruit Kecleon sometime in the future.

There are definitely alternatives to Gliscor such as Pinsir and Seaking for Narrow Focus + OHKO shenanigans, but Gliscor compressing Narrow Focus + OHKO for general and Level Reset Dungeons and False Swipe recruiting makes it a more preferable choice (And not just because it's in my avatar). To get it, either recruit Gligar and pick up two evolution stones in Waterfall Pond, or get lucky and find a fainted one in Darknight Relic.

Definitely going to poke around more and see if I can find some more interesting stuff and what have you.

I'm sorry if I overlooked this, but is there a tier list regarding Pokemon/movesets somewhere on the forums?

Managed to complete the living dex (minus shinies) in about 94-95 hours in-game time.

As for my Kecleon Strat, team was Narrow Focus Gliscor, bringing Celebi for Friendly and Machamp (Starter) for Squad Up. Idea was to stack on apples and healing items as well as using Mobile Orb + Inviting Orb + Friend Bow + All Power Up Orb and the like. Start by creating a tunnel with wands for the other Pokémon to be "safe" in by waiting, and then activate all the orbs, before robbing Kecleon, then head near the alcove to catch all the Kecleon and start spamming Guillotine from a wall whenever one draws near.

Halfway through I ended up realising with all the Power Drinks I had given False Swipe, a max power False Swipe (after Swords Dance Boosts) was enough to two shot the Kecleon and inevitably, one submitted. Then came the fun part because I did not make the alcove near the stairs so I had to make my way across, but with Celebi's Perish Song (learned at Lv91) and Stayaway Wands, we got home safely (not being able to switch leaders did not help though). Kecleon chipping in helped and Machamp even took out a Kecleon by itself with linked Brick Break + Low Sweep.

---

Anyway, that's the living dex done, all I need to do now is get Grandmaster Rank and get all shinies to "100%" this game.

So I was clearing Western Cave just now and I've noticed that Abra and only Abra is guaranteed to drop Max Ethers. Why could that be the case?

I know there are some species-specific behavior (Sudowoodo not moving until attacked, and likewise Ledyba staying in a 2x2 square alongside other Ledybas), but Abra dropping Max Ethers left me puzzled...

TWO-DAYS-LATE UPDATE: I finally got Mew, naturally going all-out with Friend Bow + Friendly + Squad Up + Inviting Orb + False Swipe + Petrifying Mew on a tunnel so I'd get no annoyances in the way.

Also, Shedinja is incredible for Vitamin-farming in the Buried Relic. The vast majority of Pokémon there can't hit it at all, so you can even go with something like Notorious Fasting and Leech Life and you'd be set for the entire dungeon.

Any (other) tips on vitamin-farming?

I've been using Perish Song Mismagius with Small Stomach and Narrow Focus on my team but doing so in Unown Relic. Seems to be working decently well since I usually manage to run out of toolbox space before I reach the end of the dungeon. Wondering if there's a more efficient or just a better way of doing so.

I'm personally using Shedinja with Notorious Fasting.

Few things in the Buried Relic can hit it to begin with, and the way Notorious Fasting works means you can completely forget about your Belly, as long as you have a recovery move (and Shedinja can learn Absorb and Leech Life). In a single trek through Buried Relic I got it from a little over 100 HP to nearly 350 HP, and every other stat nearly doubled.

Sounds good, all I need to do is find a Shedinja and gummi it to Notorious Fasting. Is there a reason to run Buried Relic over Unown Relic? I've been running through Unown Relic for the time being and I still run out of toolbox space by the end of it, so I figured I'd save on some Escape Orbs.

I would imagine Buried Relic might be preferred because you have a good idea whether any given mon can hit shedinja, while it's more unpredictable against Unown.

Mostly this. I tested the Unown Relic just once and I had multiple floors where Hidden Power was super-effective.

There's also the fact the Buried Relic is longer. It's also ideal if you can stock up on Storage Orbs.

I finally managed to recruit a Shedinja, but Storage Orbs are still rare. Is there a particular dungeon where they might be more common? Not sure if this is how the game works, but for example, I've only managed to get All Protect Orbs from Waterfall Pond.

Hi guys, sorry if this isn't what the forum is for but I have a question. If there is anyone who is a completionist like me, I need some help with the Great Canyon (Xatu) dungeon. I have currently recruited Skiploom, Vileplume, Cacturne, Doduo, Phanpy, Murkrow, Dunsparce, Heracross, Ariados, Houndoom, Tauros, Breloom... literally every Pokemon EXCEPT 1 and I haven't even figured out what Pokemon it is yet. I've gone through the dungeon probably 10 or more times and can't even encounter this Pokemon. Can anyone help me out with what Pokemon it is/what floors I can find it on? Serebii and Bulbapedia don't have this Pokemon added at all, trust me I've looked. Thanks.

Do you have Noctowl? I unfortunately don't yet have DX, but it was there in the original so it's possible it was included in the list. If I remember correctly, Northern Range should have some Hoothoots that are ready to evolve.
