It also just has Close Combat in its moveset in the full picture.
lol im blind uh I mean malamar was mesmerizing me or something

malamar friends true.png

anyway with updated movepools I also wonder if any of the new megas will get an updated stat change for their base forms

4 of the megas in gen 6 had their base form get updated stats as well:
Beedrill (+10 Attack)
Pidgeot (+10 Speed)
Alakazam (+10 Special Defense)
Ampharos (+10 Defense)

Except for Alakazam, who took til SM to be fixed, those boosts were already taken into account when the megas were made.

Have we seen Superpower anywhere? Swapping one 120 BP lowers 2 stat fighting move for the other would make sense if they just got rid of one of them. I feel like L:A (& BDSP) did it to a similar extent.

not that I remember but close combat and superpower could have different animations and areas of effect, different properties in addition to their usual ones, giving you a reason to use one or the other

That's neat. It feels like a workaround for Superpower since without Contrary, that move will lower Malamar's Attack which feels sacrilegious. Hopefully it keeps it in Champions as another Contrary tool.

I suppose we can't actually tell from its moveset, but it implies that Mega Malamar's Attack and Sp. Attack will be the base stats primarily boosted when compared to base Malamar. I can't wait for the base stats to be datamined within the next couple of weeks!

literally impossible but psycho boost malamar >>>>

It also did not have Superpower so I'm detective a theme
has scyther ever been able to use superpower? it got CC for the first time in arceus and then in gen 9 learned it for real

edit: went back and checked, as far as I can tell it never learned superpower in a previous gen so there needs to be a better example for the superpower is gone hypothesis, especially since CC was given to a LOT of pokemon in Scarlet/Violet

I'm sure if we dig around some pokemon in L:A got CC when they didn't get SP, but I imagie much like Ice Beam Gardevoir & Roost Lumineon that might have been pushed by them tweaking movesets in general alongside stuffl ike this

Anyway Scyther no, Scizor yes.

I mean Malamar getting CC and Superpower is a bit odd, as far as I can tell most pokemon get either or, but it isn't unheard of. Pinsir for example gets both.

I'm sure they are both in and have some difference in how they function to justify using one or the other. Some of the recoil moves for example give your pokemon a lot of movement thru the enemy, some other physical moves just do damage in a line or in a cone. CC's animation might be longer than Superpower's which would be bad for you, maybe cooldown differences, etc.,

Maybe it's because I haven't been scrutinizing trailers a lot so I didn't catch this before, but I like how it was implied that fighting enemy Megas would involve bespoke fights based on what the new trailer showed of Mega Banette. Lots of doppelgängers that wouldn't really fit with the system as is.

i just kinda assumed that move is phantom force or something

For leaks and such, none of the screenshots so far have been accurate - the mega ones for those [2-3] are literally just using the fanmade designs, nothing is "accurate" so far. One of the dex entries shown for the Mega literally has it having the same height / weight as its base form.

I believe the only one that holds merit is the character select screen, but apparently more people have the game so we'll see!

Trading was shown off, which might mean the game does not have the Link Cable evo item

Slightly late response but while this might not necessarily be wrong per se, I don't think it strictly rules out the Linking Cord item or any rough equivalent. Trading was still formally a thing in Legends: Arceus even if it didn't necessarily need it, and it was a viable option to obtain Machamp, Alakazam, Golem, and Gengar the usual way. So it's possible the item or an equivalent may still be here as an option.

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, and what you're saying could be possible, but I wouldn't rule out the Linking Cord or an equivalent item existing just yet.
