Clauncher/Clawitzer: - C Tier (X only)

Availability: X Exclusive. Can be found by fishing with Good Rod in Ambrette Town, Route 8, and Cyllage City. Easily hooked by rod. However, the Good Rod is located in Coumarine City, so one has to backtrack to the places it is found to catch it.
Stats: Clauncher has lackluster stats, but when it evolves it gets a fantastic base 120 Special Attack to use. Its evolution also has decent Defenses. Its speed, however, is slow at less than base 60.
Typing: Water typing is great for team Flare and it only has two weaknesses in Electric and Grass.
Movepool: Amazing movepool by level up. Clawitzer gets Water Pulse, Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, and Dragon Pulse to use with its ability powering them up further. Also learns Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, and Flash Cannon by TM. Great Special movepool with the SpA to use it. However, to obtain a lot of these moves at an optimum time in the game, the move reminder is needed.
Major Battles: Clauncher/Clawitzer's flaws are very apparent here. It comes after the 3rd gym, since the Good Rod is only obtained in Coumarine City.

Ramos: It is destroyed by every single one of his pokemon. Do not use.

Clemont: If you're very lucky, you could have a Clawitzer by now, but it is still destroyed in this gym.

Valerie: Should be a Clawitzer by now. You still have a shallow movepool since there's not access to the move reminder yet, but water hits all her pokemon neutral so it should cause some damage. However, Mr. Mime and Sylveon have pretty high Special Defense so they sponge your attacks most of the time.

Olympia: You should have access to the move reminder now, so Clawitzer can do great in this gym with Dark Pulse. Slowking is kind of tanky, but it can go down after a few Dark Pulses.

Wulfric: It can use Aura Sphere here to some extent, but it will get hurt badly if Abomasnow hits it with Grass moves. This gym is generally handled better by other pokes.

Malva: Super effective STAB, super effective STAB everywhere... Clawitzer eats her team alive.

Drasna: If Clawitzer has Dragon Pulse or Ice Beam, it can be of some help here, otherwise it's not that great.

Wikstrom: It does okay here with Aura Sphere, but it will have to take a lot of hits.

Siebold: Neutral hits, bar Aura Sphere on Barbaracle and Dark Pulse on Starmie, make Clawitzer pretty lackluster here.

Diantha: Destroys her Aurorus with Aura Sphere, Tyrantrum and Gourgeist can be taken out with the right coverage move, but Goodra is a royal pain and Mega Gardevoir isn't much more fun. Hawlucha is neutral.

Lysandre: Pyroar is taken out pretty easily. Honchkrow and Gyarados can be taken out if you have the right coverage moves (Ice Beam and Aura Sphere respectively).

Additional Comments: LATE evolution at level 37 and it is in the slow experience group. You have to have picked the right coverage moves to do well in some battles. Despite its amazing movepool and SpA, I found its performance to be pretty bad until later in the game, so it should be a C tiered mon.

Having just finished a mono-Ghost run, I'll say that I concur with the proposed ranking for Golett. I'd say that Litwick and Trevanant (or Phantump w/trade) would probably be in that range as well, but I'll put together a full write-up on what I used shortly.

Shedinja: E Tier
Availability:
Caught on Route 6 as a L11-L12 Nincada. Must have an open slot and a Poke Ball when Nincada reaches L20.
Stats: 1 HP obviously, Attack is high, you'll want to shoot for a Speed boosting nature because lord this thing is slow, rest are literally irrelevant.
Typing: Bug/Ghost has five weaknesses, including major ones like Dark and Rock. Immune to every other direct attack that's not a weakness because of Wonder Guard.
Movepool: Doesn't learn much as a Nincada, and once you get Shedinja your next direct offensive move is Shadow Sneak... at L38. Thank Goddish Shadow Claw is an early TM in this game. Can cover most types with a Dig/Aerial Ace/X-Scissor/Shadow Claw combo, but 3/4 of those are out of the way.
Major Battles:
Grant - Both of his Pokemon will kill if given the opportunity. And since we're talking molasses, they'll have an opportunity.
Korrina - Can't touch this. Literally.
Ramos - Gogoat is no problem, but Jumpluff's Acrobatics and the AI playing roulette with Gastro Acid is not a good place to be. X-Scissor is near this gym.
Clemont - Just avoid Emolgs and you'll win eventually.
Valerie - Avoid Mawile, but you can sweep the rest.
Olympia - Every one of her Pokemon have a move that beats Wonder Guard, so it's either KO or be KOed.
Wulfric - If it does KO Abomasnow, it dies to Hail immediately after. No point.

Rival: Meowstic shouldn't be a problem, but Absol will be and 2/3 of the time, so is the starter.
Team Flare: Heavy concentration of Dark types, Pokemon with Dark moves, and Golbat will cause problems.

Malva: lol
Siebold: Walls Gyarados and Starmie, loses to Clawitzer/Barbaracle.
Drasna: Walls all but Noivern.
Wikstrom: Can take out Klefki but will probably let it set up Spikes, loses to everything else.
Diantha: Walls Hawlucha and Aurorus, loses to the other 4.

Additional Comments: Among the things that pierced its Wonder Guard: Snorlax, Struggle from Smeargle, confusion (repeatedly), poison. Also, because of Nincada's experience group, it takes longer to grow than anybody.

Drifloon: C Tier
Availability:
Caught on Route 8, common on that route.
Stats: Immense HP, SpAtk higher than Atk but not overwhelmingly so. Surprisingly quick (at least in comparison to other Ghosts).
Typing: Ghost/Flying allows for three major immunities and a couple of potent STABs as well.
Movepool: Relies on Gust for a bit, but learns Hex before it evolves and has the usual Ghost TM variety.
Major Battles:
Grant - I don't think so.
Korrina - Cakewalk.
Ramos - Wipes the floor with the gym - can tank Acrobatics with high HP and will have the opportnity to start Flying if necessary.
Clemont - nope.gif
Valerie - Mawile might cause some trouble on the defensive end, and he hasn't had a chance to learn much on the physical Ghost end so they can tank your hits pretty well.
Olympia - Lunch time! Only potential problems: Shadow Ball, and Slowking's Power Gem.
Wulfric - Not recommended.

Rival: Beats Meowstic around quite handily and Delphox if you chose Chespin.
Team Flare: Quite handy against the multitude of Scrafty and can do some damage to the others with Flying STAB.

Malva: Average, but you don't want to get in a Shadow Ball race with Chandelure. Hilarity may ensue against Talonflame.
Siebold: Beats Starmie but should avoid the rest.
Drasna: Don't let it come within a mile of Dragalgae and you should be all right.
Wikstrom: Not well suited to this fight, Steel walls it quite heavily.
Diantha: Will fare well against Hawlucha and Gourgeist, should stay away from the rest.

Additional Comments: It's actually pretty easy to catch it up to the rest of the team if you train it on Route 8, especially in Horde fights with Zangoose/Seviper.

Golett: D Tier
Availability:
Caught on Route 10, somewhat rarely.
Stats: Very high Attack and HP as a Golurk, less impressive as a Golett. Very slow in both forms, though once you get to Golurk its innate EVs will let you outspeed things.
Typing: Ghost/Ground is two potent offensive STABs, but the weaknesses are quite common.
Movepool: Solid TM compatibility where it's needed, can also learn Strength and (as Golurk only) Fly. Note that although it learns Earthquake by level before you can obtain the TM, for most of the time it's stuck with the randomness of Magnitude or the Bulldoze TM.
Major Battles:
Grant - You'd think Ground would be good here, but Refrigerated Take Down still hurts and Tyrunt can OHKO at the same level thanks to Bite+Storng Jaw.
Korrina - It's a Ghost. 'nuff said.
Ramos - Best to avoid, as the trademark move is Grass Knot that is the equivalent of a STAB Discharge on a normal Pokemon.
Clemont - Depending on your level, this is either Golett's time to shine or humiliation as you get 2HKOed by Emolga. You'll need Rock Tomb to finish, and low SpDef may cause problems with Magnezone's Flash Cannon and (especially) Heliolisk's Grass Knot.
Valerie - You've got your Ground moves against Mawile but watch for Intimidate, can probably beat Mr Mime, watch out for Sylveon.
Olympia - Meowstic is faster and Shadow Ball will hurt, but you should be OK otherwise.
Wulfric - No chance in hell.

Rival: Meowstic, Jolteon and Delphox (take note, Chespin starters) go down quickly.
Team Flare: If it can survive a hit, the Ground move should be good for a KO coming back.

Malva: Chandelure beats you flat out, and Talonflame may cause trouble if you didn't put a Rock move on. Pyroar has Dark Pulse, but you should be able to take that.
Siebold: No business being in this fight unless you want to pick off a weakened Barbaracle or something.
Drasna: You'll have Earthquake for Dragalgae, but Druddigon could be trouble and the other two depend on whether a Rock move is there or not.
Wikstrom: Only stay away from Scizor, it *will* Night Slash you to death.
Diantha: Resists everything Hawlucha can throw, but that could lead to SD opportunities. Others should be avoided.

Additional Comments: In the battle of Magnitude v Bulldoze, Bulldoze wins. You will rely on the Speed drops a LOT.

Sableye: E Tier
Availability:
1% chance of finding in Reflection Cave.
Stats: Attack and Defense starts good but falls behind rapidly. Also slow, and half the time it will have an ability that ensures going last. Just about everything 2HKOs late game.
Typing: Ghost/Dark now has a Fairy weak, and there's not a lot of resistances there (Poison, yay).
Movepool: Has a lot of natural Ghost and Dark moves, but the strongest is Foul Play (which you can't control the power of) or Knock Off and Shadow Claw. TM compatibility is pretty good.
Major Battles:
Korrina - Can get some free experience, but watch out for stray Foresight because then you get whacked (Korrina's Machoke).
Ramos - Can potentially do some damage if you gave it Aerial Ace by TM but you should have something better.
Clemont - This is the part where you start to get overwhelmed by high-SA Pokemon.
Valerie - Bad part of town for Sableye.
Olympia - The last time he's of any use. Nobody can really touch him and all three Pokemon are more physically weak, which you can abuse.
Wulfric - Might be able to do something if you gave it Brick Break for Cryogonal or something, but that's out of the way.

Rival: Might need to stay away from Meowstic because it's packing Disarming Voice, but doesn't fare well against anything in general. Even Delphox can probably take it out with Mystic Fire/Flamethrower.
Team Flare: Not an efficient way to deal with anything.

Malva: Could potentially do something against Pyroar if you gave it Brick Break, and Chandelure, but you'll lose damage races to both of them.
Siebold: Can't even deal with Starmie thanks to Dazzling Gleam.
Drasna: Not able to overpower much of anything, even coming out against Altaria just lets it set up Cotton Guard.
Wikstrom: Klefki super-effects, everything else overwhelms.
Diantha: Could theoretically beat Gourgeist but you've got something better.

Additional Comments: None that are printable. This thing is bad AND annoying to get.

Haunter/Gengar: B Tier
Availability:
Rarely on Route 14, more common in Frost Cavern and Victory Road.
Stats: Very high SA, high Speed, has defensive issues. Going Mega can mitigate this.
Typing: Ghost/Poison, which actually works out as a decent offensive typing and Levitate takes care of the Ground weakness.
Movepool: Decent enough as a Haunter - strong special STABs on both types and learning the gym TMs that surround its arrival actually makes a good moveset.
Major Battles:
Valerie - STAB Venoshock at minimum means Haunter enjoys this gym quite a bit.
Olympia - It's either kill or be killed against everything - you might have some trouble with Slowking's high SpDef.
Wulfric - Poison STAB beats Abomasnow but probably not well suited to the rest.

Rival: Dazzling Gleam OHKOs all rival Absol, and you'll probably be able to super-effect the starter somehow.
Team Flare: Overpowers the grunts and if you can go Mega, takes out half of the Lysandre fight.

Malva: You'll win a damage race with Chandelure, Torkoal and Talonflame. Bring something else for Pyroar.
Siebold: You'll probably outrun everything as a similar level and OHKO it.
Drasna: Get Dragalgae out of the way, and Dazzling Gleam OHKOs everything.
Wikstrom: No real good matchups. Stay away from Aegislash especially.
Diantha: Can get rid of Tyrantrum, Gourgeist, and Gardevoir and will win a damage race with Goodra.

Additional Comments: Since the Mega Stone is available ingame, Gengar is a B and Haunter I'd slot in at a D. It makes that much of a difference.

Phantump/Trevenant: D Tier
Availability:
Route 16, rare in most areas but there's one area where it can be easier. Trade evolution.
Stats: High Attack, usable Speed, has some Defense problems.
Typing: Grass/Ghost gives you some common weaknesses but a couple of good STABs.
Movepool: Natural moveset is kind of bleh, but Phantom Force a few levels after is nice and you can either grind for Wood Hammer or Heart Scale Horn Leech back. On the TM side, surprisingly versatile.
Major Battles:
Olympia - Phantom Force will tear this gym apart once you get Sigilyph out of the way.
Wulfric - Let him chill on the sidelines.

Rival: Can beat Meowstic, potentially wreck some starters but will have trouble with the Absol.
Team Flare: Performance depends on TMs, but he'll win a damage race with Lysandre's Gyarados.

Malva: No way in hell.
Siebold: Depending on your Grass move, you may be able to get everything bar Gyarados.
Drasna: Another no-hoper fight.
Wikstrom: Probably not worth trying.
Diantha: Will beat Gourgeist if it's slower but should avoid the rest.

Additional Comments: Trevenant's largely a D because of late availability and TM reliance, which means Phantump solo is an E or flat out unusable. In terms of abilities, Natural Cure wins.

Litwick: D Tier
Availability:
Common as a Litwick in Lost Hotel, north of Route 15. Only evolves to final by way of a Dusk Stone, available post badge 7.
Stats: Ultra-high SA and Speed, survives more attacks than you'd think.
Typing: Fire/Ghost is two powerful offensive STABs that are needed late.
Movepool: Has access to a Hex/WoW combo out of the box, and Flamethrower/Shadow Ball as TMs should be enough though Psychic and Energy Ball are good filler.
Major Battles:
Olympia - Lampent should be able to roll everything but might have some trouble with Slowking.
Wulfric - Clean KOs on 2/3 of the team, and possibly can get Cryogonal if your SA is high enough.

Rival: No trouble with Meowstic, can beat all forms of the Rival and at least potentially slow down Absol with burns.
Team Flare: Although it can do some damage, it really needs the Chandelure boost which is only normally available after Team Flare's gone.

Malva: You should be able to beat her Chandelure and Torkoal is a 2HKO.
Siebold: No, unless you're packing Energy Ball and switching it in to get experience on something weakened.
Drasna: Should probably avoid this one.
Wikstrom: Ooooooh yeah, lunchtime. Maybe get it out for Probopass, but a decently leveled Chandelure that isn't -Def can actually survive Aegislash's Shadow Claw.
Diantha: Gets Hawlucha, Gourgeist, and Gardevoir.

Additional Comments: A D largely because of availability - both the late game presence and the rarity of the stone needed to reach full potential.

Like before, all tierings are provisional until this tier list is sent to C&C. If you disagree with the tiering of something in some tier, do not be afraid to speak up & say why something should be lower or higher; it will be considered. It also means you are still welcome to nominate something tiered for another tier or validate its tiering.

Basically all Pokémon I proposed for instant tiering go in their respective places. I also put Weedle in D-Tier as per general consensus.

Not much else to say, carry on as normal. I want the limbo mons to be discussed as usual though. Other than that, keep up the good work folks.

Entries Tiered: 126 (Half-way there I guess?)

I will update the OP in the morning. Also I am going to merge Doublade & Aegislash back to Honedge in the process.

On another note, I should seriously stop slacking off on this... 9.9

When you rank Nincada, you rank both Pokemon ?

Forget it !

Bellossom C-tier? No way. It's a worse Vileplume. No Poison STAB, lower Sp.Atk (with higher defenses, but Vileplume has pretty decent bulk so nvm), and its only truly strong STABs comes at level 50 and 53. It's D-tier at best.

The Pokemon with mega evolutions should be tiered twice: once for if it's used as a mega evolution, and once for if it's not.

Grass Knot TM exist, and powders are useful. Mono grass is better than Poison type after Valeria with tons of psychic moves

Grass Knot is a semi-reliable STAB. And Bellossom is stuck with it until level 50. And Olympia is the major Psychic Trainer, and while there are some random trainers who use Psychic moves, it's hard to believe this is enough to rival with extra resistance to Fairy (pretty common in the whole game), and the loss of Bug and Poison weaknesses.

The powders are useful? Yes. But when you're stuck with it until the end, you know something isn't right. And 90 Sp.Atk isn't impressive (particularly late-game). Bar Siebold, very few pokemon are 2HKO'ed (as Bellossom's coverage moves are pretty non-existent). For me, Vileplume is a C, and Bellossom is a D.

No, they aren't THAT different. But Vileplume has some advantages over Bellossom, so she should be a tier higher imo :)

We do not compare Pokemon to one another.

If Bellossom is good enough for C on its own, it has no bearing on where Vileplume is tiered. Chances are this instance there might be a difference as later on Poison types gain a huge advantage because A) Fairies and B) The massive amount of Blackbelts that appear in caves. A Fighting resistance is actually pretty nice.

The Pokemon with mega evolutions should be tiered twice: once for if it's used as a mega evolution, and once for if it's not.
Not using mega evolution is not efficient and doesn't count. It's like non-huge power Azurills

Male Espurr is being tiered differently to Female Espurr though... :|

Well, at the present moment anyway. Also, no to tiering mega evolutions separately.

Oh whoops, fix'd
It's not as if female Espurr is that much harder to find than Male? Is it cos of the movepool differences that warrants a different tiering? Just wondering.

I think this is a really great thread, but I don't want to have to trawl through multiple pages to find an analysis of why a pokemon is in said tier. Is there some way I can find this information more easily?

Not at the present moment. We are, however, eventually going to do this. I am waiting on a significant number of Pokémon to be tiered before opening write-ups to the community to add to the OP, etc.

Painful, yes, but at the moment, I do not feel like there is little enough Pokémon un-tiered to start formal write-ups as of yet.

Alrighty then I'll try to contribute to the tiering. :]

Skiddo: - B Tier
Availability:
Skiddo is available just after you first leave Lumiose. It is common in the purple flowers.
Stats: Very high HP stat and decent Attack, Sp. Attack and Sp. Defence stats. Speed and Defence are somewhat lacking, but the high HP helps to mitigate this.
Typing: Pure Grass typing gives Skiddo/Gogoat five weaknesses, but also three resistances and an immunity to grass in Sap Sipper. It's STAB attacks are unfortunately resisted by 7 types but it's coverage moves help with that.
Movepool: Skiddo has an excellent movepool. It learns Bulldoze and Earthquake hitting three of the types that resist its STAB for SE damage. Double Edge hits everything else hard. It gets lots of recovery with Synthesis, Milk Drink, and Horn Leach. Consistently learns new more powerful STAB options. Bulk up helps patch its Defence and raises Attack. TM/HM options are Rock Slide(for awesome coverage), Strength, and Surf(SpAtt stat is only a hair under its Att so it's usable).
Major Battles:
Grant - Hits for SE but doesn't like getting hit too much.
Korrina - Can't take repeated hits that well.
Ramos - Doesn't do that well, but can do some damage after Sap Sipper boost.
Clemont - Completely destroys all but Emolga.
Valerie - Does well. Hits Mawile SE and hits the other two on their week defence side while taking hits with good HP/SpD.
Olympia - Destroys Slowking. Avoid Sigilyph.
Wulfric - Very bad.

Rival - Does well against Vavoreon, Jolteon, and Greninja depending on starter chosen. Can generally beat Clefable.
Team Flare - Can do alright against Dark types but nothing spectacular.

Malva - No.
Siebold - Kills all but Gyarados.
Drasna - Can hit Dragalge with EQ but hates Sludge Bomb.
Wikstrom - Does well against all but Scizor, but doesn't like taking hits from Aegislash.
Diantha - Can take hits from Gardevoir fairly well and can hit back hard. Can hit fossils hard but doesn't like getting hit.

Additional Comments: Sap Sipper is great for getting in extra damage by switching into grass moves. This thing can tank anything that isn't SE or a powerful physical move and I found it very reliable to use.

Hi All,

First post to this thread -- i've got about 5 - 6 to cover off over the next day or so, just posting one now to test formatting. Rest will follow shortly.

Skarmory
E Tier (lower end)

Availability:
Victory Road, Lv. 57 – 59.

(Available too far in to the game to be utilised (or developed/bred) in to a key part of a team.)

Stats:
65 HP / 80 Atk / 140 Def / 40 SpA / 70 SpD / 70 Sp

Defensively great (esp. w/ Sturdy), Atk is quite good with the more high-powered moves such as brave bird. SpA moves (the ones I had for a short time) aren’t worth the effort. HP was so-so – what it had held up quite well however, its maximum was quite lower than I daresay, the majority of the party at around level 70.

Typing
Steel/Flying – Skarmory’s dual-typing offers both positives and weaknesses. Whereas its part-steel nature brings Fire in as x2 SE it also brings in some additional resistances – eg. Advantages over pure-flying are that the number of x1 effective natures increase from 2 to 8. The difference of x1 to (x1/2 – x1/4) can be felt should Skarmory be used from start, however of the 8, only 3 come in to play – fairy / dragon / steel.

However, would I say that this pushes Skarmory to a D-tier? No. I would say it keeps it out of an F.
Move pool
Skarmory’s level-up move pool has typical flying moves (agility, swift, peck, air cutter) however, of its native steel-type moves, only one of them (steel wing) is offensive.

TM move pool is substantial; Roost is a great move for flying types, however, given Skarmory’s limited type advantages in the Elite 4 & Champion battles using Roost will certainly be erased by the opponent’s next move.

See additional comments for greater analysis of moves – given they were bred on to my Skarmory I have kept it out of up-rating Skarmory’s actual rating.

Major Battles
Skarmory’s main battles (if obtained from Victory road) include the Elite 4. Nothing substantial to report that wouldn’t be expected. Certainly not a first-draft Pokémon to be considered for a run through.

Comments:
The Skarmory I used was actually bred (Nature/Ability/IV/Egg moves) and used from the beginning – even with this, I certainly believe a borderline E tier (possibly F) should apply. A specialised Skarmory such as the one I used would be either E/D-tier as it still didn't contribute that much to the overall battles

Honestly coming that late and having no real good matchups at the E4, I'd put Skarmory straight into F.
Skarmory does have a slight advantage against Drasna. It also has a high defense stat and decent offenses, so I'd say it should be E-tier at least. F-tier is for things that you simply should not use, they would be that bad.

Except Dransa's Noivern has Flamethrower, and Draglage has Thunderbolt, so at best Skarmory can defeat Druggidon and Altaria.

Meanwhile Skarmory is useless against Seibold, Malva and Wilkstrom. It can fight Tyrantrum and Goltergheist in the Dianthia Battle but that's about it.

Sorry but when there are literally 4 pokemon left in the game Skarmory can beat at the point it comes at, it's F rank. If it came just before Wulfric then I could see E.

Don't forget about Auroros. Skarmory can beat it with a STAB steel-type move. And Wilkstrom has a Klefki that fails to hit you for neutral damage. If it has Sturdy, it can take a hit from Talonflame and KO back with Rock Slide. I'd say it is good enough to be e-tier at minimum when it can beat roughly 30% of the pokemon owned by major trainers it can face.

Aurorus also has Thunder and Reflect. It's capable of beating Skarmory, especially when your best Steel-type attack is Steel Wing. Skarmory also cannot hit Klefki for neutral either.
