Ugh... Eevee is such a whore. I don't have spare Yanmas because most of them are crap. The only ones i've been keeping are the ones that replace my old crappier parents, and then the old parents get released too. You'd think with all these Yanmas i've released that i'd be able to find them around Solaceon town, but for some reason, they seem to want to just be in the Great Marsh. Must be some sort of climate-related migration type of thing, although Solaceon isn't that far north of the Marsh. At any rate, i'm going to lie down and try to get some sleep. Perhaps we can resume the festivities tomorrow night :P
On Serebii there was a very interesting thread on Pokemon taxonomy. It classified Pokemon based on their similarities. For example, Zangoose and Typhlosion are both bipedal mustelids, so they were classified together.
Very true. And if you look closely, it is easy to see how both could have evolved from the same family. All you have to do is look for a pokemon that looks like it could have offspringed them. Such as: Relicanth could have easily spawned Goldeen and Lumeon both, they are just seperate evolutions of the same creature.
Heck, Typhlosion even learns Crush Claw through breeding!
Gene's could be considered IV's. And when we IV breed we could call it in-breeding, because we're looking for the most outstanding children.
Actually that would be called selective breeding. But since we breed siblings most of the time, it's inbreeding anyway.

Logically speaking, it can't do though I alway image them carrying their trainers on their back, with the weight of the trainer nearly crushing them everytime they landed.
All of the aspects of breeding are really strange in the Pokemon world.
In real life, two animals must be in the same species to produce any fertile offspring, but the rule doesn't seem to apply to Pokemon, since any two Pokemon that are in the same breeding group can have babies that can make more eggs. Does that mean that technically a Skitty is the same species as a Wailord? (sorry but that's the first example I could think of, heh)
And how about those Pokemon that are in two different breeding groups? So Wailord, under our classification system, Wailord would be the same species as everything in the Ground egg group, as well as everything in the Water 2 egg group, meaning that really the Ground egg group Pokemon would be the same species as the Water 2 members, and with all of the connections between egg groups, you can pretty much go on and connect everything.
And then come the genderless Pokemon. Before Ditto, it was all good, because they couldn't breed with anything. But then Ditto came along, and, well, now Pokemon that aren't properly equipped can create babies anyway.
Which brings me to the subject of Ditto. Actually, I can't think of anything I could possibly say about Ditto, but you guys can think about it for yourselves.
Also I just want to note that Pokemon are fertile right out of the egg. They don't have to wait to mature or anything. And the Day Care couple doesn't seem to have any problem with hot level 1 on level 100 action.
In short, don't think anything about Pokemon biology. I also have nothing to do right now, in case you couldn't tell. And I probably made myself look like a dumbass at the same time. Whatever.

While this was mainly game balance, the few smart people explained Dark types not as the evil occult (that's closer to the ghost type) but rather they're closer to the "Used Car Salesman" type, who say one thing but mean another, and are hard to read.
I always thought of the concept of non-evil darkness as instinct or the id, and psychic powers can only manipulate on the conscious level. Darkness/Dark pokes do not operate on the conscious level, thusly there is nothing for the psychic to manipulate.

Well, dark types were introduced because ghost and psychic types were dominating the game. But I always had the same line of thinking as Iron Thorn. And by the way, pokemon evolution seems to me more like transmutation O_o'. You know when the nucleus of an atom becomes another (I'm a chem major xP).
My creationist friend (who, by the way, is a fellow Pokemon nerd) said that it isn't really evolution when you think about it. It's just that "spontaneous mutation" takes up too much space.
Well, that's a bit of a mouthful for 8 year old kids. We competitive battlers aren't the only ones playing this game y'know.
As if Pidgey flying was strange... I'm still trying to figure out how Dodrio does it.
