Pokemon Home - Shiny Meltan (LGPE) and Keldeo (SwSh) dex rewards

And here I thought I would never play L:A again. But a shiny Enamorus is just irresistible. Though I won't go back to the game directly, there's no need to rush it as there's no expiration date for the event. For now, let's see how much I have left to get:

uTDNUMc.jpg

I'm only missing 7 Pokémon! Unfortunately, 4 of these 7 must be obtained through Space-time distortions (one of the many features in L:A which I don't like), and another is Darkrai, which I can't get on my own since I don't have BD/SP. I'm not sure if it has been confirmed whether you actually need Darkrai and Shaymin to get the shiny Enamorus, but I would assume so since their silhouettes are in the Pokédex. If anyone has a Darkrai with Hisuian origin that you're willing to let me borrow (I don't need to keep it), it would be highly appreciated! I can offer something in return, I have access to Sword and Violet in addition to L:A.

I don't have BD/SP as said, so I won't be getting the shiny Manaphy. It is pretty cool, but I don't find it nearly as interesting as Enamorus. Looking at my dexes at Home, I have somehow never gotten a single Pokémon which originates from BD/SP, despite having done a fair bit of GTS trading over the years.

Anyway unless Enamorus specifically doesn't look for them, you'll need a SWSH & BDSP save file or someone to actively trade you them because the Home version of the Hisui dex wants both Shaymin & Darkrai
Enamorus requires 242/242 which includes Shaymin and Darkrai.

You do.

I said I wouldn't go back to the game directly. But I ended up changing my mind! I thought this over during the past few days and managed to hype myself up to the point that I just had to do it now.

This went quickly as expected. Big thanks to QuentinQuonce for trading me Shieldon and Darkrai! The other five Pokémon I had to get were the following:
- Dartrix. I had a few Rowlet in a box (probably from a Massive Mass Outbreak in the past, had forgotten those were a thing), so I just had to evolve one of them.
- Dewott. Didn't have either it or Oshawott in my boxes, but I got one from the GTS.
- Mime Jr. Went to the Obsidian Fieldlands to look for it, found and caught one after looking for a little while.
- Remoraid. It is a common encounter in the sea at Cobalt Coastlands, so I just went there and caught one.
- Porygon2. I had a Porygon in my boxes, so I just used an Up-Grade on it.

And then, it was done. Thankfully, I didn't have to get any of the missing Pokémon through Space-time distortions. A funny thing is that I now have 242 Pokémon in the Hisui Dex on Home, but only 241 in the actual game! I have also played Legends: Arceus for the last time, can't see any reason to go back to the game again in the future.

Looking back now, I think that despite the questionable execution, these Pokédex quests in Home are honestly quite fun. I liked doing it in Violet last year to get the shiny Meloetta, and doing it this time was fun too. I like completing the Pokédexes in the actual games, and this is almost like doing it again, but on a smaller scale and in a different way. I wonder what the rewards will be for completing the LGP/E and Galar Dexes in the future, and when those will happen? I'm honestly looking forward to when there is a reward for the Galar Dexes.

I will take a guess that the next update(s) will happen before Z-A drops. I can see them wanting all the dex gifts to be taken care of before the next game, you know? Like hey you completed all those...time to complete this one next ; )

Although... maybe they instead time it so the update is the same time as Z-A drops, actually. Like they've been making a point that the new game additions to Home drop like 3-5 months after the game proper (contrast with the DLCs) does, probably since they don't want you immediately using it for them, so I could see the logic of "Z-A might be out, but not in Home so in the meantime take a look at these goals instead" type of deal.

Late to the party on this, but wanted to say that the second worst part about the PLA dex (after needing to get the BDSP-locked Darkrai) is that it means I will actually have to track down those last 12 Spiritomb wisps. If a fetch quest has more than like 5 things you need to find there needs to be an in-game list or map marker or something so you can track which ones you already have. I can't keep squinting at Serebii screenshots to try and decipher where all of these things are or my eyes are going to give out.

It definitely could be improved (I had to cross reference the map and just place markers myself for a chunk...), but one tip is to just fly around at night. You can spot those things from across the map at night.

Surprisingly, seems the final set of rewards is already being added once maintenance is done

They are, drum roll please

Keldeo for the complete SWSH dexes. Not surprising

And...Meltan, for Let's Go. Just Meltan. The thing that can't evolve.
I thought for sure that if they DID go this route that they would give Meltan AND Melmetal, but no.
They really, really should have gone with Mew. Did you know that you can't even bring in Mew from Go to Let's Go? They block it entirely, meaning Shiny Mew is impossible to legitimately have in Let's go!

I’m surprised that these completion rewards are arriving so quickly after the previous ones. It almost feels like they’re trying to get them out before Pokémon Day.

Shiny Meltan is definitely a bad choice for a reward, especially since it can’t evolve and will presumably be able to move into LGPE. I suppose that they could potentially be adding a way for it to evolve in a future mainline title, but then it won’t be able to move back to LGPE. Considering that there have been multiple events in GO for shiny Meltan already, it truly is a baffling choice for a Dex completion reward.

I genuinely wonder if Meltan is because LGPE is by far the easiest Pokédex to complete. It's only the original 150, and unlike LA's Shaymin/Darkrai requirement does not need Mew either. As I recall you can get everything without trading with some effort, too. Guess they just don't want to give you a big prize for the game with by far the least guys where you're encouraged to catch everything

okay I WAS going to say that but then I remembered you get a Manaphy for the exact same amount of Pokémon in BDSP. What the hell

Jeez what a letdown. I already have a bunch of shiny Meltan and Melmetal from Go, this feels thoroughly pointless. I guess it's being done with non-Go players in mind as a future proof way to get a shiny Meltan but counterintuively the only way to get a shiny Melmetal is to... transfer from Go. So they really do need to add an evolution method in the next game(s).

Shiny Keldeo is cool though, no complaints there. poor Victini once again left out in the cold

Same here. The last ones were only two weeks ago. I had expected them to wait for a few months with the next ones. But as you say, they might just want to get them out before Pokémon Day.

I'm very happy that shiny Keldeo is the reward for completing the Galar Dexes. It is one of my favorite mythicals, and it isn't dexited from ScaVio, which means that once I have it, I can send it over to Violet and train it on a future team there. Alongside OC Magearna, shiny Meloetta/Enamorus, and others. I was planning to start playing Super Mario RPG on my Switch later this week, but I think I'll go back to Sword and complete the Galar Dexes on Home first. I don't have a lot left, so it shouldn't take too long. I think I should be able to get everything on my own, I'm a little unsure about some of the legends and trade evolutions, but there's always the GTS. At least there are no mythicals required this time around!

I was really hoping to finally be able to fill the Mew-shaped hole in my Let's Go dex, this is a shame...
And to add to that, in the game's Dex, Meltan is located at no. 152, so registering it reveals Mew's empty spot. Just to serve as a reminder to you, that your complete collection the nice and shiny reward was for, is not at all complete.
I mean, this is something that upsets only a limited number of people, but still!..

This reward just emphasized for me how arbitrary Meltan's Evolution lock is. Nothing about is concept even utilizes a Go-Specific mechanic (compare things like Buddy interaction standing in for Friendship effects), nor is its lore incompatible with existing means; we have "more members appear" evos like Dugtrio the Slowpoke line's Shellder, and if you want it to be the Metal thing, make it a trade evo with Metal Coat held or something similar.

Yeah that's been a thing since its release; Poipole was in the same boat for a while. Can't even trade it between friends, so if you want it in your dex you either have had to get it yourself or trade it through SWSH

Basically seems like they flipped the "let Dhelmise in" switch but forgot the "this is legal to trade" switch.

Finally.

It only took a week, but it felt longer. How did this go?

Pretty much all regular Pokémon were easy to get, I just had to catch/breed them. There were some version exclusives I had to get from the GTS, but it was easy. Legendaries were no problems either. There were several which I had on my game that I had never registered on Home for some unknown reason. I had an event Zamazenta from long ago, while I picked Glastrier and Regidrago in my second playthrough of Sword, so I could just send them over from there. I also got Type: Null from my second playthough, hadn't obtained it before, but I got it now.

I needed two trade evolutions. The first was Aromatisse, which I can't get on my own since I have Sword, but I got one from the GTS without too much trouble. The second was Porygon-Z. Getting one from the GTS proved to be practically impossible. I traded so many Porygon-Z, but all of them were from other games. Getting a Porygon-Z in S/S is pretty hard on your own since it isn't in raids. It can be caught in raids in ScaVio, and in L:A, you can just evolve one without trading. In addition, there were several on the GTS which were transferred from Bank or Go. I was about to ask someone for help, but yesterday, I realized... I can get one on my own! If I breed a Porygon in Sword, send it over to L:A and evolve it there, then I have one! I felt like an idiot for not thinking about that earlier.

Those were the last Home Pokédexes I complete, at least from the games that exist now. I don't have LGP/E, so no shiny Meltan for me, but it doesn't matter since I'm not that interested. Plus, it can be obtained from Go, and it can't evolve outside of Go, so it feels pointless. Now I'm done with both Sword and L:A again, for the third time. I wonder if they will do future events for other things in Home, like registering all moves and/or Abilities? I guess the future will tell. For me, it is time to move on to other Switch games, not sure how much I will have time for before XCX drops next month.

Good luck to everyone else who is still working on completing their dexes!

Since there's no breeding in LGPE I found a useful trick for obtaining some of the Pokemon from those games via the GTS is to be super strict on levels. For instance, Omanyte is given to you at level 44 in LGPE so I'd put up something desirable up on the GTS and request an Omanyte which can travel to LGPE and is level 41-50.

Sure, someone might send me an Omanyte caught in Pokemon Go which is at that level, but that's unlikely (Pokemon can only be captured up to level 35 in Go, and it's unlikely someone would level an Omanyte up past level 40 before transferring it). And luckily I've got a bunch of spare shinies from Pokemon Go I could part with and not feel terrible about, so I could try again if need be.

This is far less effective for SwSh/ScVi, though as all Pokemon in the Wild Area are found at the same level, requesting a species at level 61-70 is often a good way to increase the likelihood of something being from SwSh. For L:A there's not really any trick with requesting Pokemon, but since all Pokemon from that game have Hisuian Pokeballs it's usually quite trivial to search for stuff and spot the L:A-native species. You just need trade fodder people want... which on the GTS basically means Raging Bolt or Bloodmoon Ursaluna 90% of the time. Seriously, can people get over those two Pokemon? Yes they're very cool but request something else for god's sake.

BDSP Pokemon, though... you're on your own. Those things are like hen's teeth.
