Project Pokemon Matchmaking v2 [Closed]

Reserving Specs Keldeo

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Keldeo provides the perfect coverage for Serperior's Weaknesses (Talonflame, Heatran, Kyurem-Black, Latios). It has pretty standard moves like scald and secret sword but with icy wind, it now has coverage for fast dragon types like Latios and Kyurem-Black with an 100% to lower their speed.
Erm, Keldeo dies to their Super-Effective STAB attacks before it gets a chance to attack them though.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic / Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP
- Hydro Pump
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin / Recover

Starmie is all around a very underappreciated 'mon with regards to what it does beyond simply acting as a spinner, and I have tried to highlight this a bit with my slashing; 4 attacks with dual STABs, Ice Beam and one of TBolt/HP Fire is also an option--as is running Surf or Scald in the fourth slot--but generally speaking 3 attacks is easier to plug onto teams.

The reason that Starmie makes a good partner is because, as a Water-type, it does a good job covering some of Serperior's defensive answers. With Psychic, it is able to beat Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur that do a good job of cockblocking this set--preventing the use of Leech Seed--while also threatening back with a potential Sludge Bomb. Similarly, Ice Beam also nails Amoonguss but it also targets other fat grasses like Celebi and AV Tangrowth who can also give it a headache due to being less passive than Amoonguss. Between the two of them they just generally exert a huge amount of pressure onto teams, and with their high speed tiers they are able to deal with offensive teams pretty easily.

Make sure to have something that can deal with things like Weavile and Mega Lopunny alongside these two 'mons though.

reserving mega latias

Latias-Mega @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

Mega Latias provides good offensive support with being able to spread Thunder Wave well, and has good type synergy with Serperior. Serperior struggles to switch into Pokemon with either reliable priority or hit flat out hard and Mega Latias is able to soak up the damage and heal it off. BoltBeam has good coverage being able to hit a variety of Pokemon. Basically, Mega Latias fills a role of some sort of support with Thunder Wave which helps a lot with Speed control and allowing Serperior to break through teams easier. The two together fits together more onto more balanced teams rather than hyper offense.

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split / Thunder Wave

Rotom-Wash is a mon that I like a lot, and I think it's a good serperior partner, because it can beat mons like talonflame, heatran or pinsir and a lot of other serperiors threats. Obviously u should also add something to beat chary for example. The set is pretty standard, u can also run twave over painsplit to cripple Mcharx. Double status is cool tbh.

Week 76 - Calm Mind Manaphy

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rain Dance
- Calm Mind
- Rest

Reserving Amoonguss

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 92 SpD
Bold Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Hidden Power Fire

Calm Mind Manaphy appreciates having Amoonguss in order to switch into the grass type attacks it doesn't want to take. Because this particular variant of Manaphy is so slow, for instance, it will automatically be forced out by threats like Breloom, Ferrothorn, and Tangrowth. It doesn't appreciate dealing with mons that resist Water as well, as while Manaphy can click Calm Mind, other CM users like Slowbro, Reuniclus, and Keldeo use moves that target the base defense - which Manaphy cannot boost. CMers like Suicune, who do not have that option, can run Roar(and on Suicune, that's pretty much standard) to mitigate those boosts Manaphy worked so hard to accrue. Amoonguss can do the same to those CM users by clicking Clear Smog.

Also, one of the very nice things about Amoonguss is that it has access to Spore, which will essentially guarantee the need for your opponent to sack something as sleep fodder.

An important issue to deal with in teambuilding with this core is Latios, because it defeats Amoonguss relatively easily and can just fire off Dracos on Manaphy with ease.

Reserving Venusaur-Mega

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis

Mega Venusaur makes a good partner for Manaphy as they have great type synergy with each other and able to handle threats that each respectable Pokemon struggles with. Venusaur covers Electric types such as Thundurus, M-Manectric, and Raikou which Manaphy struggles against if it lacks Calm Mind boost and Mega Venusaur struggles instead Pokemon such as Heatran, and Talonflame.

Reserving ferrothorn

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

I think ferrothorn can be a good manaphys partner in a hazard-stacking balance team. This mon checks electric mons, grass ones and a lot of manaphys threats. As I said, ferrothorn can use spikes, so with this core you can build a hazard-stacking team; make sure you use also something for electrics like manectric mega, which can hit ferrothorn with its fire move (overheat / fthrower)

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit

So this Manaphy's biggest cockblock on stall is Clear Smog Amoonguss, and Shedinja is a hard stop on wonder trio teams. Weavile just clicks Pursuit against the latter and threatens the former out -- you can use Pursuit on it there if you're cheeky, and it'll outpace Regenerator. Manaphy also matches up poorly with other Calm Mind users, which often sport STAB Psyshock, a Water resistance, or both (the exception being MG Clef I guess). Weavile has a good matchup against most of these too, threatening with at least one STAB. Grass-types, Kyurem-Black, and Latios (especially that Specs set) are all problematic for Manaphy, but not for Weavile.

Meanwhile, Manaphy is a good status absorber (especially Scald) and Fire-type check, and most of Weavile's good checks really do hate Scald burns or the move itself.

Vague

Banned deucer.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower

Band Tyranitar is an excellent parter as it traps / breaks annoying mons' for Manaphy such as, Latios, Mega Latias, Chansey, and Amoonguss while simultaneously pressuring stall teams much more immediately since CM Manaphy lacks the quick, raw power that TG variants boast.

@ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Sorry I completely forgot about this :/

Heatran pairs really well with CM Manaphy. Manaphy holds Ground-types as well as other Water-types, and Heatran can defeat Pokémon that are dangerous to Manaphy, such as Amoonguss and Tangrowth. I can't explain too much because I haven't explored the OU metagame as much as I wanted to do and because I'm on phone right now, but I saw a lot of squads that are running Grass-types as they Water-resists, and Heatran gets past these Grass-types with Lava Plume and Toxic. Heatran provides Stealth Rock support what's really good for Manaphy too.

Well, Zard-Y and Smogon Bird are taken so....

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz

Volcarona can easily beat Slowking, Ferrothorn, Lati@s and Serperior which gives this Manaphy set trouble. In return, Manaphy sets up on Chansey and Heatran which are major roadblocks to Volcarona. Fire Blast also 2HKOes 88 SpD Unaware Clefable after Stealth Rock, which Manaphy cannot break through.

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw/Earthquake
- Roost

Manaphy pressures Rock- and Ground-types that bother Mega Charizard X, and the former can break down defensive cores for Charizard to clean up late-game.
Earthquake is slashed over Dragon Claw (even though it has both STAB and Tough Claw boost) for the major coverage provided towards Electric and Steel types.
EVs and nature are pretty standard.
The rain provided by Manaphy isn't that a problem, because it lasts few turns without a Damp Rock and opposite sand setters are a thing.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn

I think mega scizor can be a good mate with kyurem. It provides momentum with u-turn so the kyurem, which is specs, can damage really hard a lot of mons in the OU tier. It's also needed as a strong fairy counter with its recovery move and priority stab Bullet Punch, and it's also a check for steel type mons.

SR Jirachi

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Healing Wish

Jirachi provides SR support to enhance the pressure on the opponent's team when using our wallbreaker. Not only this, but a middling slow U-turn is always useful to create safe switch-ins for its teammates; eventually, Jirachi passes Healing Wishes in case Kyurem gets worn down too much to give the dragon a second chance to shine. Jirachi threatens common checks to both itself and Kyurem such as Clefable, opposing Latios, and Mega Diancie.
EVs and set is stolen from the dex.

Mega Metagross:

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Hammer Arm / Zen Headbutt
- Pursuit / Zen Headbutt

Metagross provides very nice synergy with Kyurem, having the bulk to be able to switch into problematic mons such as Latios, for example, so that it can Pursuit it to prevent it from being a problem later on in the match. Being able to handle faster fairies than Kyurem such as Timid Mega Gardevoir and Mega Diancie as well as being a secondary Clefable check in case Kyurem cannot find the opportunity to 2HKO it with Ice Beam is very nice for Kyurem. In addition, Metagross also handles pokemon such as Tyranitar which Kyurem may have trouble with if Tyranitar comes in after Kyurem is locked into Ice Beam, for example, or if it lacks Focus Blast; this is helpful so that Kyurem doesn't find itself in a situation where it gets Pursuit trapped if Tyranitar comes in safely from either one of Kyurem's coverage moves or after Kyurem gets a kill. Kyurem also helps out Metagross well, being able to lure in steels and weaken them such as Scizor if it switches in on an HP Fire, or Ferrothorn, which gets 2HKO'd by Ice Beam after Rocks. Kyurem can also take on annoying mons to Metagross such as Slowbro and Rotom-Wash.

Dugtrio @ Focus Sash
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Reversal
- Screech
- Stealth Rock

Dugtrio removes Chansey, Heatran, and SpD Jirachi. All can set Stealth Rocks (which greatly annoy Kyurem) and discourage Kyurem from clicking Ice Beam and Draco Meteor. In a pinch, Duggy also traps and greatly weakens any Clefable that runs enough SpD to wall Kyurem.

Dugtrio's kind of a straightforward support mon so Kyurem doesn't necessarily need to do much for it in return, but FWIW Kyurem can OHKO almost every Flying-type and Levitator in OU, with only SpD Talonflame avoiding the 2HKO from a STAB thanks to priority Roost.

Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball

Hard-stops to bulky Scizor like Heatran, Talonflame and Suicune are all set-up bait for Manaphy who can destroy then with ease. In return, Scizor sets up on Ferrothorn and can check Hidden Power Fire-less Latios

With that, Pokemon Matchmaking will finally come to an end for Generation 6. Thank you all for partipating and making this a worthwhile thread to run. I've now run this thread for over a year, 58 rounds to be exact. Opening this thread was one of the first things I ever did on Smogon, and its definitely been an interesting experience. Shoutout to Hector Hard Mode who jumped in to help me out during the later stages, I really appreciate your support bro. Matchmaking should be back for Pokemon Sun and Moon. Until then, peace.
