Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 2 (In-Game Discussion)

Excellent, all I need is a (really big) MicroSD card now and I can get started on the game as well.

Chou, you should provide a full-on translation guide/walkthrough for everyone. That would make this experience way more enjoyable.

Seconded. I will love you forever if you do, Chou. I'm an illiterate boob.

I don't think Shaymin will be made uber. I can theorymon plenty of ways to beat it (Timid ScarfTran (which I use anyway) will always beat it and only have to be wary of ScarfMin's HP Grounds, Calm Zapdos can take Seed Flare, Air Slash, and HP Ground easily and PP stall with Substitute / Roost or just use HP Ice, Sassy Bronzong can take all three and Gyro Ball / Explode, Jirachi / Empoleon can pump themselves with Special Defense EVs (to survive the HP Ground) and OHKO this Shaymin with Ice Punch / Ice Beam, Pokemon with Ice Shard suddenly regain their significance, Pokemon like Aerodactyl / Jolteon become interesting since they outspeed and can hit with powerful Ice Fangs or Hidden Power Ices), but I "guess we'll see."

I am certainly excited to use it, however. Fuck those SubSeed sets that everyone and his mother is gooing their pants over...

I'm totally using Seed Flare, Air Slash, Hidden Power Ground, Whatever on a Choice Scarf / Choice Specs set (probably Scarf since I hate using Band / Specs and having to "predict").
You forgot about crobat. It can OHKO 0/0 sky shaymin with brave bird, I think.

I am most excited to see what new moves Gengar (my favourite pokemon) can learn. :D Can someone check it now please? :P (please get something like nasty plot!)

The Gastly line gets nothing new via level-up. Maybe there'll be a couple tutor moves, but I don't think anyone has that info yet...

Steelix will probably move back up to BL or OU because of Curse. Curse+Roar is just the most amazing combo, and he gets STAB Gyro Ball people! Anyways, I think this will help Steelix much more than Bullet Punch on Scizor, atleast in standard.

Nasty Plot Darkrai is stupid. As if Dark Void + Bad Dreams wasn't bad enough for your Resttalker, now he gets +2 Special Attack when you switch out and a STAB move without an immunity. Foul.

Scizor's viability in Ubers just increased for several reasons. First of all, he can switch into Darkrai safely assuming it already put your status absorber to sleep. Secondly, it can SD as it Nasty Plots or switches out, and then abuse the low physical defense of Ubers with a 90 power priority move(after STAB and Technician), and hit the slower of the Ubers with a powerful X-Scissor. Scizor will likely go up in usage, but it will still lose to the same things. Now it doesn't have to run Light Screen / Roost / Pursuit to beat Gengar, but it gets destroyed by Skarmory and Weezing. Using Bullet Punch>Iron Head has its advantages, but it does beat Weezing, which Bullet Punch can't accomplish. I think we will see a huge rise in Weezing if people begin overusing Bullet Punch.

What I am truly looking forward to is the possible new berry and Cursing Steelix. The berry damages the opponent if they use a special attack against you, and since Steelix has a huge base defense stat AND Curse to work with, it is likely they will attack the weaker special defense. Now, phazers are typically an issue for physical sweepers, and Skarmory could easily foil this, but Roar destroys Skarmory. Roar always moves last, just like Whirlwind, but since Steelix has Curse and naturally lower base speed, it won't be able to be Phazed out. This is yet another reason why the rise of Weezing may be approaching. If Snorlax ends up getting Slack Off, look out, Weezing says hi.

EDIT:
Cursing Steelix could be useful in UU.

Also, Probopass has STAB Power Gem, which means Power Gem could theoretically see some use now. Yay for special rock type moves.

Really? Steelix will surely not stay in UU...

Sorry but in DP if two Pokemon use Roar, the Faster ones phazes out the slower one.

EDIT: Damn you IPL.

To make this post relevant....Nasty Plot Darkrai is sick in ubers. I don't even consider it a suspect anymore lol. Totally using a Substitute, Dark Void, Nasty Plot Dark Pulse Darkrai just to piss the shit out of people.

I got platinum thnx to my R4, and i have to say it looks great qua graphics. i'll try to upload pictures of things like Rotom's forms and all that.

That happens in GSC, not D/P.

The faster pokemon will roar out the slower pokemon before it can even phaze.

EDIT: Damnit Im slow :/

Damn, I did not know that. Wow I feel stupid. Oh well, you learn something everyday. Steelix just went down a notch, but it can still Explode! lol

EDIT: Scarfed Shaymin-S should be a load of fun, I remember when many people were using Thunder Wave / Air Slash Togekiss while I used ScarfKiss, and this is even better.

ChouToshio, any idea what the third woman downstairs in Pokemon centers is offering?

Well, in mine, she's saying that the basement stuff is under modification so you can't go down there.

Anyway, Union room seems to be fully functional, so I'm going to go ahead and start off my journey with this guy:

Chimchar
Level 5
Mild
30 / 30 / 14 / 31 / 31 / 31
22 ATK 252 sATK 232 SPD
-Overheat
-Hidden Power Ice 70
-Thunder Punch
-Grass Knot
(all with PP max) lol

edit: BTW, the hikozaru I got from the professor was:

Chimchar
Rash
0 / 22 / 4 / 31 / 15 / 31

which made me do a WTF? That would have been actually decent

edit: lol, it even his hidden power Ice 66 haha

Chou you and IPL should definitely start a translation guide to help the rest of us non-japanese readers work through the game :D

Yes, if Shaymin has a significant enough impact on the current metagame I can see Aero and Jolt rising in popularity and there might be more Ice Shard here and there, assuming Garchomp stays in OU. Bronzong seems to fare a bit better than Zapdos switching in against Specs Shaymin Seed Flare as Zapdos is Stealth Rock and Sandstorm weak and can be 2HKO'd by Shaymin's Seed Flare assuming a Special Defense drop (95.31%-112.5%). Really the only way I can see this going down is via a revenge kill, not even Bold 148 HP Blissey can stand up to the task as it risks being 2HKO'd in two turns just like Zapdos, Calm Blissey can take a few hits but it'll take plenty of damage while doing so but at least it can paralyse or kill it with an Ice Beam.

What Shaymin-S reminds me of is SpecsMence, except this time it isn't walled by Blissey and you don't bet a major Special Attack drop but rather your opponent getting a major Special Defense drop, and thus has more staying power and doesn't have to switch in and out as much and receive Stealth Rock damage.

Do all the other Rotom forms have the same base stats?
If that is the case, they are quite defensive-orientated.
Sucks though,We(in Europe) probably have to wait a few years before we can get acces to the new forms ;(

The offensive stats of the new shaymin are impressive. I think that if garchomp and deoxys-s will be banned from OU, Skymin should be banned as well...

How much special attack does it have tho? Yes, it will definitely be better than Mence, but you don't have to predict as much with Mence, as there are no 4x dragon resists, let alone 2x. STAB Air Slash will rip apart even Heatran tho, which is why I am afraid of this soo much.

I believe the berry effect only lasts one turn, just like all other berries.

Base stats are on the front page.

Hidden Power [Ground] is probably now the preferred Hidden Power of Shaymin-S as it now has Air Slash to deal with other Grass Types, not to mention Shaymin-S outspeeds Modest 252 Spe Heatran and can OHKO with HP Ground.

And Flareon really needs Flare Blitz... although it'll probably never have its wish granted.

Wow, Rotom's new form is almost defensively identical to Spiritomb, though it's also faster and has more Special Attack. Still weak to Dark and Ghost, but hey Ground immunity is great.

Also, Lawn Mower Rotom is awesome. Did you see the grin on that thing? :naughty:

I can see it becoming an issue, but I don't personally think it will become uber since grass is such a horribly shafted type and 4x resistance is not difficult to conjure even in a party not specficially prepared for that threat. Maybe if it could carry more than one hidden power, but alas.

I've been wrong about the game though, way back to when I thought it was going to be Opal for sure, so I'll leave the speculation to time and the people who can do it better. I've thought of the grass type as tough shit ever since RBY and Venusaur, it would be nice for that fandom to have some substance behind that with a game-breaking (Or close to, in top tier OU) pokemon.

It's about to cut some shit up, I'd be grinning too.
