SPOILERS! Pokemon Sun and Moon Demo Discussion

Disappointed that the developers nerfed the speed dropping effect of paralysis rather than full paralysis but this is nonetheless a nice change. Hoping that Burn and Stealth Rock damage see similar nerfs.
I always said since when S&M came out that I very well could see myself quit competitive Pokemon of the current gen and just enjoy gen 4. Your proposed changes would make me do that. The speed tiers are going to be even more ridiculous thanks to the paralysis nerf. I don't want MORE stuff to be so rewarding to sweepers, Pokemon like M-Scizor would be freaking ridiculous and it would probably force HO to stop set ups.

On a different note, is there any sort of PokeEtch app in this game? Or is it the exact same as in gen 6 on the bottom screen? Want to know if they have done any innovations to it.

I don't think the paralysis nerf is misplaced. Full paralysis can be a game-changer, but if you are relying on that, then you don't deserve a win in the first place.

When you have Thunder Wave as a 100% accurate and very widespread paralysis inducer (whereas Burn has the inaccurate Will-o-wisp or has to rely on Scald hax, and reliable Sleep is restricted to mushroom Pokemon -and Smeargle-), quartering Speed was too much IMO. Halving is more reasonable, and you may actually set-up your way out of it.

I may be an idiot, but is a change from 1/4 to 1/2 speed really that much of a deal breaker? I mean it still cripples an opponent and leaves them much more susceptible to threats. How much does it actually change? Are there any threats that are still a danger at half speed than at quarter speed?

In VGC / Doubles, where Tailwind is a thing, it basically allows you to get your paralyzed Pokémon back to its usual Speed-tier. It also makes it a lot harder to cripple Dragon Dancers, Quiver Dancers, etc... by paralyzing them.

Speed Boost Blaziken likes this too.

Just as a random example, a Jolly Charizard X after a Dragon Dance can now outrun things like defensive Landorus-T, Modest Volcanion, and Jolly Tyranitar (sans Scarf, of course) even when paralyzed. Beforehand, he couldn't even outrun an uninvested Chansey. The speed drop still hurts, but this does mean that slapping Prankster Thunder Wave on your team isn't going to be as good of a stop to Charizard X as it used to.

Regarding the fact that they didn't remove the full paralysis thing, I think they did so in order to make paralysis itself less exploitable. In a VGC environment, a player could just self-inflict to itself the paralysis status to prevent its Pokémon from being statused, for example. Other statuses either reduce steadily the HP of the Pokémon lacking Poison Heal / Magic Guard or make them unable to move for a few turns if they don't have Sleep Talk or certain Fire moves.

Besides, they're status ailments. They're supposed to cripple the opponent. And paralysis is one of the easiest status to abuse, so I'm glad that it got a slight nerf. If all, it helps against the annoying paraflinch somewhat, which is something I welcome with open arms.

The paralysis nerf doesn't help with paraflinch at all lol. Stopping sweepers is going to be even more of a bitch this gen than ever before since now Clefable and Slowbro can't stop sweepers at all. Oh well guess HO spam here the metagame comes. Landorus-T is even more a requirement than in BW2 and 6th gen.

If they do the same thing with burn there isn't even any point in statuses anymore. They are supposed to cripple you not let sweepers just get +2 while you switch out to your status user. The leniency is insane.

After playing around with the demo a bit, the game feels a little slow. There is a slight lag between player actions in/after battle. Most of it is fluff, like the UI getting out of the way after choosing an attack or "Run" before the battle text appears. I'm a bit bothered by the long black screen after choosing what to do with caught Pokemon in the catching challenge though.

Also, unless my ears are deceiving me, it seems that different themes between day/night from DPPt make a return.

IT'S UP!

Demo Info (Not Datamined):

Pikipek learns Supersonic, Pluck, Fury Attack

Yungoos learns Sand-Attack and Mud-Slap.

Rockruff learns Sand-Attack, Odor Sleuth, and Howl.

Hakamo-o learns Autotomize (It's gonna sweep!).

Preliminary testing seems to indicate that Battle Bond doubles the power of Water Shuriken while Greninja is Ash-Greninja.

Gigavolt Havoc has 100 BP when formed from Nuzzle (+80) and 160 BP off of Electro Ball (fixed, no matter the opponent's Speed). This shows that Z-Moves do not have a fixed BP buff, but instead the buff varies based on the move that is transformed.

Gigavolt Havoc's damage category depends on the damage category of the transformed move. Nuzzle made it Physical, T-Bolt and Electro Ball made it Special.

Just played the demo, though only the first part. Not much else to say that hasn't been brought up. At the moment just wanted to enjoy the game. It's fun even though its scripted. Something notable that no one mentioned:

There are gated areas in town where you can catch wild Pokemon (you enter the gates by pressing a. The gates also seem to act like shortcuts). While nothing that major it does ease my concern of there not looking like there being a lot of catching spots in the region. In addition the path to the first trial had plenty of grass.

Apparently the old 3DS kind of struggles with the framerate.

I can confirm that. My 3DS framerate dropped, especially in double battles.

I don't know if you guys ever played that Sailor Moon game I believe on the SNES? but the beginning of the game reminds me of it for some reason, kind of cool.

Also it's so annoying how I can't use the d-pad to move anymore....r.i.p. ;__;
