Porygon2 or PorygonZ?

Note that Trapinch can be a somewhat viable option in DP now, as it is "faster" than everything in a Trick Room with its supersonic 10 base speed and is not slacking in the attack department.
With P2's spectacular base 60 Spd you could run it on a team with someone with Trick Room. Too bad PZ gets Trick Room and not P2 :(

The fact that PZ can get to 306 Spd with Timid can really help.

Anyone ever think about running HP Fighting? With max or near max SAtk you can trump TTar in one hit after a Nasty Plot from PZ.

Nasty Plotted Tri Attack 2HKOs Tyranitar anyways, unless that's changed from the Sandstorm discovery.

I'm pretty sure Tri Attack won't do that now, I mean that's 1/3 damage to Ttar :P

I took the Standstorm discovery into consideration with HP Fighting as well.

So, how many of ya will be using HP Fighting now?

PZ with Nasty Plot, Tri-Attack, Shadow Ball, and HP Fighting hits everything. If only his base speed were a little bit higher.
P2 is of course noted by Trace abuse. If you don't use Trace, you should probably use PZ. @_@

There are a few good traits to Trace, but what other than Intimidate (or maybe Shedinja's Wonder Guard) can it really use to benefit from? I guess it could Trace in on an Eletivire's thunderbolts/punches, a Houndoom's Fire Blast, a Vaporeon's Surf, a Flygon's Eq, etc. but not every trait the opponent has is that useful for Porygon2. (ie: Skarmary's Sturdy/Keen Eye, Dragonite's Inner Focus, etc.)

There are additional and new good traits to Trace, such as a Clefable's Magic Guard, however it really it not guaranteed than you can switch into a pokemon and gain a helpful trait, for example Guts.

Is trace really a good enough reason to use Pory2 over PoryZ?

Yeah, those 20 extra points each in base defenses plus recover can make it annoying to kill, and it's not exactly horrible at attacking either with 105 base Special Attack.

Yeah, the Porygon2 set I used can take a UnSTABbed Fighting move I think. Porygon2 is a bit bulkier than Porygon-Z and I think was entirely made to TWave and sweep/stall with defenses while PZ is entirely for sweeping

Now on the fan-based side, I would pick Porygon2 simply because it looks cooler than PZ IMO

Not THAT annoying to kill, it wasn't that hard to kill in Advance to begin with. But yes, those 20 extra point does give it a bulky feel.

A nice switch into Gyarados and scare it away.

Porygon2 absolutely ruined Baton Pass Chains in Advanced with BoltBeam................. no other pokemon did it better than him, and he was great for a starter. No wonder why so many people liked him

I'll try to use both in the same team. Para support helps PoryZ so much and Pory2 can clean like PoryZ too.

Then you could always build the others around warding off fighting type moves. Or give PoryZ Psychic for the fighters themselves.

Hey, I have a question that probably has an obvious answer, but my mind's blanking right now. If the going theory is that Adaptibility gives a 1.5 multiplier to STABed attacks, why aren't more people considering Download? As long as you bring out your Porygon-Z against something that has higher Defense than Special Defense, you get a 1.5 boost on your special attacks across the board, right?

Is it because Download + Nasty Plot only gives you 3 layers of Sp. Attack up, whereas Adaptibility gives, in essence, 4?

Adaptability is more reliable. It lets you bring PZ in on anything and be dangerous. When your defenses are that low, you really can't afford to be picky about what you want to come in on.

Download is a really interesting trait (it's a shame that nothing else gets it), but it's not as reliable as Adaptability. You'll always get Tri Attack boosted with Adaptability, which alongside Dark Pulse hits everything hard. I'm planning on trying him with Silk Scarf, which makes BoltBeam almost redundant. Throw in Dark Pulse for Ghosts and you're good.

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Nature: Relaxed (+Def -Spd)
EVs: 196 HP / 96 Atk / 116 Def / 100 SAtk
Trait: Download
-Return / Double-Edge
-Hidden Power [Fighting]
-Thunderbolt / Discharge
-Ice Beam

This works assuming the game doesn't account for Tyranitar's SDef boost from its Sandstream. Bring it in on Blissey and Return does 38.3% - 46.4% to max / max+ and Double-Edge does 46.0% - 54.0% to the same Blissey. Hidden Power [Fighting] OHKOs Tyranitar after Download boosts Porygon2's SAtk. Thunderbolt OHKOs bulky Gyarados that focus on physical defense instead of special defense, like Jumpman's, whereas Discharge is good for that 30% chance of paralysis (Pory2 loves paralysis). Ice Beam rounds out the coverage and OHKOs min / min Garchomp even without Download activating, but guarantees a OHKO against bulkier ones after Download.

Not sure I'd recommend it over a Trace set, but that's probably a good set for a Downloader.

Great points all around. I think you're right about BoltBeam being a bit redundant with Adaptibility. With that in mind, consider this set:

Porygon-Z
Tri Attack
Shadow Ball
Conversion
Recover

A novelty set? Probably. But I like this thing for the ability to potentially mess with Choice Band Heracross. You can reliably switch from the Normal type to the Ghost type (and back), making Close Combat fail and Megahorn do significantly reduced damage. Once you're Ghost-type, you just switch your main attack from Tri Attack to Shadow Ball. Same BP. Has trouble hitting TTar, though. Recover can be replaced with any other Normal-type move without compromising the reliability of Conversion.

I use the standard Porygon2.

Porygon2 @ Leftovers/White Herb (When all hold items must be different.)
Nature: Modest
EVs: HP 228 Def 172 Sp. Atk 110 (Yes pretty much the Smogon one.)
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave/Recycle/Conversion
Recover

I switch between Thunder Wave, Recycle, and Conversion. It's a modified version of the smogon strategey.

@Footnote
I would actually replace Shadowball with Dark Pulse. A one in 5 chance of flinching someone with PorygonZ's decent speed could mean a difference between 2HKO with no damage taken or 2HKO with retribution. It still hits Ghosts and Psychics pretty hard as well.

Otherwise I actually love the idea of Conversion2 + Recover since PorygonZ actually has the speed to pull it off.

Actually I just had another thought with PorygonZ. It may warrant some laughter I guess.

PorygonZ
-Hyper Beam (Yes you heard me right)
-Dark Pulse/Discharge
-Substitute/Recover
-Tri-Attack

I'll put it simply. Who would like to eat a double STAB 150 power Hyper Beam off 135 base spcl.atk? Thought not. In fact I'd imagine anything non-resistant is as good as a OHKO or just use it in a Explosion fashion.

Tri-Attack is there for obvious reasons, Discharge just has a really nice paralysis rate. I think PorygonZ could sacrifice 15 extra power for it seeing it has all that spcl.atk.

Substitute needs explaining. Basically idea is to sub up when they switch and then if you think you can OHKO it. Let rip with Hyper Beam and you get to hide behind the sub while he recharges giving it abit more use outside of a last ditch effort.

Or even just go crazy and go.

PorygonZ@Choice Specs
-Hyper Beam
-Tri-Attack
-'Filler'
-'Filler'

Its the special version of Slaking!
