Hi everyone! The purpose of this thread is primarily to provide OMPL players and managers a venue for sharing sets and teams they've devised throughout our longest team tournament yet. Catalystic has been generous enough to compile player records, and they can be found here:
Records (will be updated with playoffs and finals soon)
Gonna go over some notable records in each tier and some overall trends from the tour
AAA:
In AAA, our top record goes to Racool's impressive 6-1 record, proving that rust doesn't mean anything if you try hard enough. rozes, one of the most anticipated AAA picks with jrdn's support, sported a solid 5-2 record at the price of only 8000 for the Honchkrows, an impressive feat. Sylveon. came out with another super solid record of 4-1, making their AAA record over the past two OMPL's 11-1 (Laxpras #2 in the making?).
AG:
As we say farewell to AG's inclusion in OMs and as such OMPL, a couple records stand out. First off, Skarph's record of 8-3 was something absolutely nobody expected, as he went on an incredible 4-0 streak in the playoffs and finals which greatly boosted his record (At only the cost of 9500 mind you). Zenithial's record on the other hand was hurt during the playoffs (at the hand of his former Hydreigon teammate Skarph), but he still comes out with a very impressive 5-2 record, making his record over the past two OMPL's 12-3, which is fitting for the former TL. HunterStorm also achieved a record of 5-2, the best record of any player who didn't make it to the playoffs.
BH:
BH was a very... interesting tier this OMPL, with most players not receiving a standout record this time around (apart from two cheap picks that I'll mention later in the post). Volkner's 5-3 and MAMP and sugarhigh's 4-3 records were solid, with sugarhigh's spams and ridiculous builds being one of the most entertaining things to watch in the entirety of the tour.
MnM:
Man oh man was this tier a mess this OMPL (not referencing the finals drama here)... it's a good thing Shuckle is most likely going because there were truly some really wack games involving webs (and some hilarious webs counterplay, sorry andy haha). Chazm once again pulls out with the best record in MnM, and in the entirety of the tour this time with his 8-2 record, congrats. TectonicDestroyer pulls out with a 5-1 record, making this 3K pick the best price/win in the entire tour.
STABmons:
From my personal opinion, this was easily the most entertaining metagame this OMPL. w0rd, another ancient player, comes on top for sole STAB records, with a whopping 6-4 over his 10 weeks of playing. aesf was probably the most impressive player however, sporting a dominating 5-1 record in STAB, only losing in a meme game where he brought 5 Pokemon (and he still almost won). While split between two players, the core of Dr. PHD BJ and Official Fissure have a combined record of 6-2 in STAB, and truly showed most of the other teams how it's done.
ZU:
Another metagame we're seeing goodbye to after only 2 team tours with us, ZU is another tier that didn't exactly have any standout records. The games overall were very competitive and well played, and it's sad to see such a nice tier out of OMPL. 5Gen technically had a 5-2 record due to a coinflip, but 4-2 in games played is still very impressive.
Top Picks
Chazm Comes out on the top of the records spreadsheet with a record of 8-2, as stated before. To play that consistently for such a long time is truly hard to fully appreciate, and Chloe and Pigeons made a choice getting Chazm for 16500.
aesf an 8000 pick that went 6-1... what more can you say. aesf was absolutely dominant this OMPL and in my opinion was the best pick of the entire tour.
Skarph the only player to play all 11 weeks.. amazing to say the least (not to mention in a BO3 meta). This OMPL was tiring for just about everyone but nobody else can really make that claim when Skarph was pushing out 3 teams a week every week and still got a record of 8-3.
TectonicDestroyer as mentioned before, the best cost/win, with an impressive 600 per win in one of the more competitive tiers in the tour. A lot of people (including myself) discounted him and wrote him off at the beginning of the tour due to his inexperience and general attitude, but he definitely changed some minds this tour
a fruitshop owner another great pick from Chloe and Pigeons, a 5-3 record in a super stacked metagame for only 4000 is incredibly impressive, and deserves some praise
HeadsILoseTailsYouWin 4-1 as a 4K pick again is super impressive, especially for someone who hasn't played BH much this generation. Though the Jolteons spent 23500 on their BH slot, they still killed it as a whole
PinkDragonTamer another 4K pick with a solid record, pdt was a super underrated threat in BH this tour that I don't think a lot of people acknowledged enough. Anyone that can 6-0 MAMP has my eternal respect
This OMPL overall was really fun, although tiring with its increased length. Let's all give a big congratulations to the Jolteons, and thanks for participating in OMPL! See you guys next year!
