Hi everyone! The purpose of this thread is primarily to provide OMPL players and managers a venue for sharing sets and teams they've devised throughout our longest team tournament yet. Catalystic has been generous enough to compile player records, and they can be found here:

Records (will be updated with playoffs and finals soon)

Gonna go over some notable records in each tier and some overall trends from the tour

AAA:
In AAA, our top record goes to Racool's impressive 6-1 record, proving that rust doesn't mean anything if you try hard enough. rozes, one of the most anticipated AAA picks with jrdn's support, sported a solid 5-2 record at the price of only 8000 for the Honchkrows, an impressive feat. Sylveon. came out with another super solid record of 4-1, making their AAA record over the past two OMPL's 11-1 (Laxpras #2 in the making?).

AG:
As we say farewell to AG's inclusion in OMs and as such OMPL, a couple records stand out. First off, Skarph's record of 8-3 was something absolutely nobody expected, as he went on an incredible 4-0 streak in the playoffs and finals which greatly boosted his record (At only the cost of 9500 mind you). Zenithial's record on the other hand was hurt during the playoffs (at the hand of his former Hydreigon teammate Skarph), but he still comes out with a very impressive 5-2 record, making his record over the past two OMPL's 12-3, which is fitting for the former TL. HunterStorm also achieved a record of 5-2, the best record of any player who didn't make it to the playoffs.

BH:
BH was a very... interesting tier this OMPL, with most players not receiving a standout record this time around (apart from two cheap picks that I'll mention later in the post). Volkner's 5-3 and MAMP and sugarhigh's 4-3 records were solid, with sugarhigh's spams and ridiculous builds being one of the most entertaining things to watch in the entirety of the tour.

MnM:
Man oh man was this tier a mess this OMPL (not referencing the finals drama here)... it's a good thing Shuckle is most likely going because there were truly some really wack games involving webs (and some hilarious webs counterplay, sorry andy haha). Chazm once again pulls out with the best record in MnM, and in the entirety of the tour this time with his 8-2 record, congrats. TectonicDestroyer pulls out with a 5-1 record, making this 3K pick the best price/win in the entire tour.

STABmons:
From my personal opinion, this was easily the most entertaining metagame this OMPL. w0rd, another ancient player, comes on top for sole STAB records, with a whopping 6-4 over his 10 weeks of playing. aesf was probably the most impressive player however, sporting a dominating 5-1 record in STAB, only losing in a meme game where he brought 5 Pokemon (and he still almost won). While split between two players, the core of Dr. PHD BJ and Official Fissure have a combined record of 6-2 in STAB, and truly showed most of the other teams how it's done.

ZU:
Another metagame we're seeing goodbye to after only 2 team tours with us, ZU is another tier that didn't exactly have any standout records. The games overall were very competitive and well played, and it's sad to see such a nice tier out of OMPL. 5Gen technically had a 5-2 record due to a coinflip, but 4-2 in games played is still very impressive.

Top Picks
Chazm Comes out on the top of the records spreadsheet with a record of 8-2, as stated before. To play that consistently for such a long time is truly hard to fully appreciate, and Chloe and Pigeons made a choice getting Chazm for 16500.
aesf an 8000 pick that went 6-1... what more can you say. aesf was absolutely dominant this OMPL and in my opinion was the best pick of the entire tour.
Skarph the only player to play all 11 weeks.. amazing to say the least (not to mention in a BO3 meta). This OMPL was tiring for just about everyone but nobody else can really make that claim when Skarph was pushing out 3 teams a week every week and still got a record of 8-3.
TectonicDestroyer as mentioned before, the best cost/win, with an impressive 600 per win in one of the more competitive tiers in the tour. A lot of people (including myself) discounted him and wrote him off at the beginning of the tour due to his inexperience and general attitude, but he definitely changed some minds this tour
a fruitshop owner another great pick from Chloe and Pigeons, a 5-3 record in a super stacked metagame for only 4000 is incredibly impressive, and deserves some praise
HeadsILoseTailsYouWin 4-1 as a 4K pick again is super impressive, especially for someone who hasn't played BH much this generation. Though the Jolteons spent 23500 on their BH slot, they still killed it as a whole
PinkDragonTamer another 4K pick with a solid record, pdt was a super underrated threat in BH this tour that I don't think a lot of people acknowledged enough. Anyone that can 6-0 MAMP has my eternal respect

This OMPL overall was really fun, although tiring with its increased length. Let's all give a big congratulations to the Jolteons, and thanks for participating in OMPL! See you guys next year!

first appearance of bounce kart and gunk mmx. this team is pretty cool, kart imposter proofs both zekrom and mmx so it ends up being really efficient in that regard. its rather slow but its good at hazard stacking

im pretty proud of this team, basically mmx stacks hazards while mmy cleans later on and ogre/zyg are meant to maintain momentum. at the time though i didnt have any mray counters that could actually maintain momentum so i just lost to that which was really stupid. glad that thing is gone because it made building rly annoying.

my first attempt at something that could get momentum on mray, regenvest zekrom. the whole idea of specs ray + ctc's uncle is disgusting in the same way as anything involving ctc's uncle. team works fine in most matchups except shadowsneak + ray espeed is the gar counter.

yes, this is the force palm xern one. xern in general is meant to spread paralysis and knock off spdef boosting items (and beat ph) so steela can sweep later on. anna used this week 2 and everything went according to plan despite jasp having a rly problematic mon in kanga. occa aegi is so u live a hit from like blaziken or whatever idk.

no recovery pdon mixed with general low effort building so the team isnt that good. i hate building around pdon in general. zmove lego is to kill mray.

now we have the inverse, too much crunchy stuff on one team so none of it makes sense. some of these sets could've been ok on a different team but all together it just makes no sense. diancie + zapdos + virizion covers a surprising amount but isnt sufficient enough.

more aero because i wanted an updated build. this is worse than the previous aero team though, i guess moving away from mold breaker gear was a bad idea despite the fact that regenvest was good in ray meta.

originally the ray was sub over sword, idea was to have a sub up and scald to burn any physical attackers that might come in. unfortunately what i failed to factor in was that this broken pokemon already beats every physical attacker. steam eruption was probably the better choice anyway.

i brought ph zera because i always bring new teams so i thought i could catch volt off guard with something id brought before, plus i wasnt super confident in any of these. it was a rly annoying game because he brought a counter for the yveltal and the zera but it wasnt unwinnable.

this team was actually really saucy despite consisting of 6 unmons, i got some neat wins in the still not uploaded bh live, but i wasnt confident enough to seriously recommend this one so it went unused unfort.

anna chose to bring the team she built this week. it was wack but it won so im not complaining

anna ended up going with this team for playoffs, its another of those aggressive shed teams that saw a lot of use. defensive core isnt great since you dont have ph xern, but the offensive potential of the team mostly makes up for that. mg mmy was an annoying matchup for this team but she managed to pull through

PLAYOFF TIEBREAKER
<:notlikeblob:47396710443804262>08/15/2019
yea i'm pulling out all the old concepts that i couldn't make work before
reshiram was the next one after the magic guard mmy
i'm a fan of this team bc thanks to resh u beat opposing shed pretty handily
thanks to mold breaker ignoring sturdy and this pokemon generally having no counters
let's see if i can make 2 broken teams in a row
ok anyway here's my basic theory on the current bh meta that i'm getting everything from
basically my belief is that
the "concept" or idea of a team must be by nature an aggressive mon or playstyle, because passive stuff doesn't work
but beyond that, it also needs to somehow perform well vs opposing offense and offer sweeping and/or speed control potential
this can be through priority (triage, strong espeed), high speed (mmy), or setup (smash, qd, speed boost)
imo sig move man and reshiram are both good examples of this because aside from sweeping potential they both have exceptional breaking power
same applies to a lot of other stuff i've been using like triage steela, cb normalize espeed regigigas, rocks ph slaking, ph xerns with strong coverage, sf rocks arceus + spikes zmove dawn wings
i think that having 1 alone out of breaking + sweeping is not enough, your mon needs to do both unless it has sufficient support/is needed in that specific role

32: it has no counters so just run passive things because they win on ladder: the team

i ended up bringing the triple chans because ive brought balance the whole tour and thought stall would be a nice idea. his team was extremely reliant on trappers so that ended up working. shed shell is wack

an edit of the above sun team. this team still has several flaws so id probably need to edit it a couple more times, but shaymin over sab is a real change, he beats non vcreate diancie 1v1 and takes on non lava plume xern so aegi handles the fire move ones. solar beam kills slowbro/ttar which is really funny

taunt pursuit is for mmy and aegi so the other broken pokemon on the team can easily win after they have taken ez 30-40% chip. fun fact this team was actually built around imposter

Hey, got a few teams to dump here, idk if anyone wants to use them, but i thought it was kinda fun making the teams while it lasted

1. mamo + rai with the god SCARF PHERO
mamo and rai.png
mamo is cool, rai is also cool, chad phero dunks on people with the virgin terrakions and kartanas, and flyceus because refresh cmceus is always fun to play with, imo

2. this worked on ladder, why didn't it work in ompl
this worked on ladder.png
why can't ompl be like ladder and autolose to webs some days :sob:

3. shedinja is fun in bh
serious attempt at stall.png
shedinja was fun to think about building around.
mence because i had a soft spot for it, and wanted to include it, tina because i needed something that resembled a terrak check, blissbuzz because BLISSEY AND BUZZWOLE NEVER DIES, shedinja bc i wanted to, and ditto bc i don't think there's any good stall in mnm without ditto

4. i looked at pigeons and was like "wow"
serious attempt v0.5.png
shedinja stall v0.5
palossand worked for pigeons, why wouldn't it work here :blobuwu:
this is a better version, i think, because there's an actual terrak check here now

5. aegislash's our man, if he can't do it, nobody can
serious attempt at stall v2.png
I rly liked the idea of aegislash, it's a fairly decent physical check with kings shield, and it still decently checks terrak + kartana in one slot

6. how many shed stalls can i make before i die of impatience
this is totally shed stall.png
ignore the fact that this team has no shedinja whatsoever, i think lugia is a neat pokemon to use, especially in stall. it eats eruption from don and then stalls it out, which is fun. the return of aegislash meant that i felt safer running lugia bc aegis just ruins terrak's day, i feel

7. maroon made this for me uwu
maroon made this for me.png
I was like :blobastonished: when i realized i had to make another team, but then maroon was like :blobwizard: and made this team and i was like  and then won with this team.

KELDEO IS GOOD, AND UNDEFEATED IN OMPL BECAUSE OF YOUR BOY SECTONIA
[11:59:16] @ChazmicSupanova: >keldeo
[11:59:20] @ChazmicSupanova: >sad
[11:59:23] @ChazmicSupanova: dude nobody
[11:59:26] @ChazmicSupanova: is gonna bring keld
[11:59:32] @ChazmicSupanova: in the next millennium

building was actually kinda fun, if only if mnm wasn't as centralized as it was, i could have felt more comfortable with trying more options

btw, in the last few months of mnm's life pls don't bring anything that checks unecro's cm set or else i'll die

Welcome to my 1000th post. Click on the icons for the teams and if you're looking for the shoutouts, those are after them.

The Teams

Week 1 -
Legends Never Die
:gengar-mega::rayquaza-mega::aegislash::arceus::zygarde-complete::chansey:
This was a Specs Mega Rayquaza x Mega Gengar balance. The Zygarde is because I did not want to lose to Shedinja and I didn't wanna use Mold Breaker Giratina/Second Gengar. Simple Mega Gengar gets a lot of KOs, it's a pretty nice Pokemon. The Arceus on this team, is a second Poison Heal check. In the actual game, Jeran ended up bringing Poison Heal Mega Tyranitar, which was a difficult matchup and ended in me losing this week. This team is now illegal. If you still wish to use it, replace Mega Rayquaza with White Kyurem, regular Rayquaza, Mega Charizard Y, or another Pokemon of your choice.

Week 2 - Solo
:gengar_mega::gengar_mega::gengar_mega::rayquaza_mega::arceus-electric::gyarados-mega:
Some Hyper Offense that I wanted to use. The actual team is pretty good if you don't meet a Shedinja but requires way too much pressure from you if there is a Shedinja (as I learned the hard way in the game, lost to a last mon Shed). Replacing Revelation Dance with Moongeist Beam on Magic Guard Mega Gengar is worth considering, as the other teammates handle opposing Normalize Mega Gengars fairly well. There isn't much else to say other than the Mega Gyarados is pretty cool. Blocking their Prankster Haze is quite broken, while you can't get Taunted because of your Dark type. Dark is a fairly spammable STAB too. Team's illegal, replace it with whatever Triage user takes over.

Week 3 - Dark Necessities
:tyranitar-mega::gengar-mega::chansey::kyogre-primal::ho-oh::zygarde-complete:
Even though the Tyranitar is what the team was named after, Lightning Rod Mega Gengar was definitely the most valuable Pokemon in my game and probably broken. Electrify lets you PP stall a lot of moves too. This is one of the only Band Mega Tyranitar teams I've built in my career. The team loses pretty hard to Shedinja, with the only options being poisoning via Sludge Bomb on Mega Gengar or burning via Scald on Primal Kyogre. This team was built for a no Shedinja, no Mega Rayquaza meta, so that's why it's fairly weak to all of these threats, but it's otherwise quite solid.

Week 4 - Closer
:chansey::rayquaza-mega::magearna::zygarde-complete::groudon-primal::cresselia:
Wow, a team with no Mega Gengar! Yeah, I figured I was getting way too predictable with Mega Gengars, so I opted to not run one this week. The Groudon is a loser's set (change your name, that feels so wrong to type). I expected something offensive from Jasprose, especially since we opted to go with no Shedinja, so I tried to counter the playstyle as best I could with stuff like Scarf Imposter and Unaware Magearna. Jasprose ended up bringing a lot of what I expected, so fortunately I was able to pull out a win.

Week 5 - Cruel Summer
:empoleon::blissey::rayquaza-mega::zygarde-complete::xerneas::shedinja:
Fuck Ice Beam.

Week 6 - I Don't Care
:garchomp-mega::chansey::celesteela::giratina::audino-mega::gengar-mega:
Mega Garchomp is a very underused Pokemon, but it's really good. Special Defense modifications are to ensure the OHKO on Impostered Mega Garchomp after you Shell Smash, assuming they came in on the turn you set up. Roost Mega Gengar was motherlove's suggestion, as we thought Quantum Tesseract had a difficult time vs the set across most of his teams and Mega Garchomp pressures Mega Audino and Yveltal, which were the only checks to the set he ran. It's a fairly solid team. We gentlemanned to no Shedinja, no Mega Rayquaza.

Week 7 - Jake's Scream Song
:greninja-ash::kyogre-primal::zekrom::kyogre-primal::greninja-ash::chansey:
I didn't play this week so I'll include the cursed rain that highlighter wanted to build for MAMP. Don't ask. Like, really, just don't. You're better off not knowing, I promise. I'm looking out for you guys.

Semifinals - Girls Like You
:tyranitar-mega::mewtwo-mega-x::mewtwo-mega-y::groudon-primal::necrozma-dawn-wings::chansey:
I expected cheese (mainly Mega Rayquaza spam and Sun), and I think I did a fairly good job at counterstyling it. Mega Mewtwo Y covers most cheese by paralyzing the mons, the rest is fairly self explanatory. Nonetheless, Mega Rayquaza is dumb as shit and the spam was scary to face, despite having so much Ice coverage on my team, but I pulled through anyway. Dawn Wings Necrozma actually destroys teams with no Ghost resists, and Mega Tyranitar and Chansey help if Imposter on Dawn Wings Necrozma gets out of hand.

Finals - Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
:gengar-mega::zekrom::groudon-primal::celesteela::zygarde-complete::chansey:
I put a lot of time into this team, but BH isn't a meta where you can have no bad matchups. The team struggles a lot vs Mega Mewtwo Y and Tinted Lens Mega Blaziken, so despite having double Primal weather, I still struggled against the actual Pokemon on the Sun. Nonetheless, I felt the Zygarde-Complete, Zekrom, and Mega Gengar would do quite well vs the Jolteons, and they did.

This (https://pokepast.es/0fff405326a573df) was also a set that came out of my prep. Dangerously effective, if anyone wants to use it.

Group Shoutouts
The Community - I'm not sure how to express my feelings as I write this post. I didn't expect this moment to come by for a while, yet it came by so fast. You all have given me a lot of good memories. Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate all the time that you've given me. You all have made a mark (even if some of you can be as annoying as shit) so thanks a bunch. I've definitely forgotten a lot of people despite including a lot originally. I've met so many cool people on this website that I've had the fortune of calling my friend. It feels weird leaving a community which has been a part of my life for so long, but here we are.

I really wish all the best to all the friends I've made here. I'm sorry if I didn't include you, but know that I (probably) appreciate you regardless if you feel you deserve a positive shoutout.

See y'all around \o

Hello, my main reason for making this post is so people have some reason to remember me this ompl b/c I put a lot of effort into the aaa metagame in general the past however many weeks/months it's been. I did make a few cool teams and helped as much as I possibly could, so I got more out of this tour then I could've asked for. Hoping to be taken seriously as an aaa player next year even if this tour was fuckin horrible :jynx:. I left my OMPL team's discord without thinking so all of these explanations are off the dome.

Built this for sabella to use vs lax iirc. The main idea was that lax didn't use ghost resists and used av mag quite a lot, so blace + spiker that abuses mag (volt absorb skarm) was the idea. Buzzwole was an obvious pick because it takes advantage of pursuit users and dark types in general while it also abuses spikes nicely with lo triage as a wincon. Magic Bounce Mgyara is here b/c opposing ghosts are pretty threatening and it's the only form of hazard removal on this team, being able to come in on steels and grounds preventing hazards and potentially setting up is really nice here, especially vs shit like ff cele so far. Gyara is also just a nice wincon vs fatter teams in conjunction with spikes support. Water Absorb Nihilego is really good here to take advantage of fini which otherwise shits on everything, reliably getting hazards up and checking the birdies like Noivern is all key utility to help glue the team together. This Koko set is just a general pivot and blanket check to things like tini and buzz. This team's out vs naga is critting it so there's that, but I believe it's otherwise p solid.

Built this for sab to use vs ham I think but he didn't end up using it. I spent a rather absurd amount of time polishing this team and I still think the last 3 mons are kinda meh. The general idea was that ham used av mag as his steel alot and rarely used dark types, so Psyshock zam was a cool wincon idea. CB Buzzwole came through as something that can abuse dark types and steels for free turns, both of which obviously bother zam. Then my drei set I wanted b/c I felt it was an ideal pivot and glue mon for the former two mons, pivoting into ghosts and u-turning on random av mons, snorlax, etc. that buzz can abuse. Cele was added as a volc, tran, and lando check primarily, it also likes drei's ability to pivot on tini v nice. Exca is like stupid role compression in this tier w/ rocks + spin + whatever ability you give it, it's super fucked tho b/c it's just got too much on it's plate but you gotta do what you gotta do in a tier with a rather absurd number of threats. Water Absorb exca abuses fini which is great for this team and is mostly a glue piece. Ngl idk why this koko is here, well I do, but in hindsight it's just not necessary. Fsr I wasn't satisfied with tini mu when I probably shoulda been so I wanted that same blanket to tini/buzz when I prolly shoulda focused more on buzz mu.

Used this vs drphdbj in a webs mirror. I'm super comfy with webs in whatever tier I play, I tried thinking of shit to use but honestly I just felt better leaning on webs. s/o Funbot28 b/c one of her webs teams was the only aaa team I ever used for quite a while and this team is pretty similar to it. I built around soul heart tini b/c it was a set I thought was p cool, I ripped the lando set off funbot's webs but I did put thought into it I just came to the conclusion that it was the best option as a rocker on webs for sure, chipping ff steels n shit for tini too. This next slot could easily be mbounce gyarados but I went with ttar b/c bird answer, ghost answer, and defiant I thought would be p fuckin coo. Mag set I just ripped off funbot but I gave it a shuca b/c opposing lando is scurry. Kommo I just ripped off funbot b/c that thing is the motherlove killer. Ok but fr mag and kommo just made too much sense in both slots lmao.

The amount of effort I put into prepping for this dickhead motherlove is rather absurd and I got 2-0d, the biggest regret of my mons career ;_;.

Anyways idrk why I rained him. I had like 5-7 ideas but this one was the one I liked, I feel hella safe using cheesy offenses like weather and webs so I just ran w it ig. Just super standard rain stuff, pert and volc are p obvi. I ended up against stall so I really wish I did tinted volc, but I didn't so there wasn't much I could've done. Torn checks all the triage mons loosely and sets rain + defog support, also is a super ideal pivot to bring volc/pert in vs steels or rock types or whatever else. This rain team is super similar to sab's old one with a bunch of minor differences, I actually ended up with p2 naturally in the building process for volcarona mainly, which is how he got there in his build as well. Moldy spikes ferro was good but sacrifices tini mu a lil bit, it's worth tho imo since you still have outs with pert n shit. Elec Z buzz was kinda ripped off geerat ngl, beats ferro and lures tini n shit tho which is awesome on this. s/o aesf and Sylveon. again for helping me so much w/ prep that week.

This team is super cool imo. Aesf mentioned gravity lando and I loved the idea so I ran with it, especially since ik mlove loves zapdos sooo much. Figured Jirachi was the ideal pivot and support for this mon to work, offering rocks and twave support, and something to pivot into when you're not in an ideal position to get gravity up. Hydreigon was p similar, in a core w/ Jirachi it glues the team together very nicely and forms a nice pivot regen core that can stall out a lot of teams with hazards up while also potentially getting lando into ideal positions to clean and/or break. Flash Fire Skarmory helps w/ buzz and tini matchup while providing spikes support which is rlly rlly nice w/ lando. Bulu takes a little pressure off skarm since it can check chomp n shit while also pressuring buzz, this is important b/c if gravity is up then skarm can't switch into grounds. Bulu is really the solidified wincon in most scenarios with so much support from dual twave and spikes. I didn't have a mega and I kinda wanted a water's utility so I thought of competitive blastoise to take advantage of defog while also giving hazard removal of my own.

Okkkk this is what I woulda brought g3 and in hindsight I wish I brought it g1 b/c I was happier with this than I was the rain ngl. This was the first idea I came up with for mlove series b/c this fucker has like 27 teams with 2-3 fire types, I figured Tyrantrum on screens could fuckin clean a lot of those. The v first thing I thought of was something that could blanket and abuse triage mons which bother Tyrantrum a lot, which led to Mega Pinsir. Defiant also gives me something to abuse Defog and shit like intim hippo which is cool. I actually had flash fire rock z Lando for a bit but then I realized tinted is just so much better and I was thinking too much about utility on a screens team. Tinted lures shit like cele, levi doub, zapdos, etc. which gives pinsir so so much more breathing room. Magearna was like the perfect glue mon in terms of it's typing and stuff but the set was something I had no idea what to do with, I had levitate for a bit but it couldnt rlly pressure anything, but w/o levitate I hard lost to like Mamoswine and lando to some extent. Now after fuckin centuries of this team's existence I've decided that shuca sheer force is the move to help w/ the ground + ice coverage situation while still being able to keep the pressure up.

Those're all the teams I built myself, I had a heavy hand in mlove's team/prep in the semifinals and helped sabella every week he didn't play the minute the week started tho too LOL. Was a semi-fun tour, kinda, thank you for welcoming me with open arms into the community, kinda. Oh and thank you to the 2 or 3 people who enjoyed my predicts b/c I really enjoyed them ngl :). Let's all cheer for GL Volkner leaving this site!!!! :DDDD. I hope to stick with aaa for a while b/c it's fun, kinda.

edit: s/o Clefable for being my aaa cheerleader and supporter

Holding off on sharing AG stuff because I'm in full recycle mode in AGPL but I did play 2 other metas.
:Diancie::Magearna::Marowak-Alola::Stakataka::Golisopod::Snorlax:
AAA TR is pretty funny and worth sharing imo, made it with Jrdn and Funbot28 but I don't think they're desperate to keep a gem like this secret or anything. It was meant to ct racool by being good vs offense and stall much more than fatter balances, but it's got some fun techs too like the metronome golis to slap extra fat stuff spamming recover. It really helps that people have to be super careful with what they sack in order to not drop late-game to Snorlax, although this team also needs to be super on top of handling opposing sweepers like Naganadel, Minior, Magearna, etc. Everything is checkable but it's easy to mess up and then auto-lose late game.

The former is a funny breaker because you expect to be able to revenge Exeggutor with stuff like Swanna and Electivire and whatnot but haha nope and the latter is a pretty decent sweeper that doesn't need like, crazy usage but shouldn't be taken lightly even if LPY got smacked around when trying to use it.

w4: double belly drum bulky offense - double belly drum gets 'em again, W vs. nyan kat
i can't remember what week this is: band kart + broken ray + specs gengar - i win versus a loser
semifinals: broken ass grassy surge + tinted kart - lost 'cause i forgot merciless existed and it destroyed me (L vs. anna)

ill be back if gen 8 isn't shit was fun lads thanks again to all the om lads who helped out

Hello, my main reason for making this post is so people like vivalospride and GL Volkner have some reason to remember me this ompl b/c I put a lot of effort into the mnm metagame in general the past however many weeks/months it's been. I did make a few cool teams and helped as much as I possibly could, so I got more out of this tour then I could've asked for.

https://pokepast.es/b7f4d4c49687b3a2 L vs Chazm
we wanted to bring that we thought was good vs opposing balance which is what chazm liked to use so we came up Band Ho-oh as its a strong breaker paired with Eruption Primal Groudon. Mandibuzz and Slowbro fill in the defensive roles while zygarde can offensively check stuff like terrak and pick off low hp mons. During the game, i was able to pick up a kill with Ho-oh in the first few turns and played well to be in a winning spot. However, i ended up receiving the bad end of the stick because of mons but it happens.

https://pokepast.es/457da34fd98db0d5 W vs SectoniaServant
I decided to make this team as i was comfortable with it and we decided that just bringing a good team and not being too weak vs webs was the way to go this week. It's a basic Mandibuzz offense with Pins Kart and Altarianite Entei. However, we faced webs but the lead was sacked t1 (unfortunate :( ) which allowed to be at a good advantage with no webs in the way.

https://pokepast.es/6a55407df93dc696 W vs Stresh
I honestly didnt have much time to prep for this week as i was on vacation (getting hoes at the beach) so i was pretty just passed a team from my teammate Cata and it was just some nasty sticky webs with cloyster on it so i thought " hey fuck it I'll go for it ". Going into the game, he brought some offensive looking team which i thought was anti webs looking at it at first view. I was able to thankfully get up my hazards and play around the lunala which was a massive bitch to the team with shadow shield up. Im kinda sad cloyster didnt do much but xurkitree was able to win late with a tail glow up (can we ban webs btw?)

https://pokepast.es/5894f7a04bb1798f W vs Plas
This game unfortunately didnt matter as our team had already lost in playoffs so i was pretty much just subbed in to play for fun so i was given some heat salazzle squad by jrdn to use. During the game i faced webs and i thought i lost on the spot LOL but i managed to squeeze around some threats and big salazzle managed to come in CLUTCH late game with its ability oml please watch that game.

Ompl was fun. Glad i was able to salvage my 0-1 to 3-1 (forevered cursed to 2-1s and 3-1s >:( ), and meet some cool dudes from krows and klinks. See ya guys in omwc ig

I'll probably post a team dump later because I had a few interesting builds and a few fun ones I didn't end up using.

But for now, I just want to say thanks to everyone for making my first tournament in like 4 years an enjoyable one.
It was a bit surreal being the final tiebreaker in 2019 after being gone so long!

Okay I've had 4 weeks to lose all hype to make this post, but imma do it anyway.

W1 vs Eien - https://pokepast.es/d497d2f8fa2387cd

Wasn't really sure what to do week 1 as most of Eien's mnm replays come from Lando meta. Also Mark as manager and QT as support left a weird range of building influences to try and cover, which pretty much forced me into something more standard as I wanted to bring stuff like Manec Mage and Mandibuzz that generally just blanket check random shit well. I also made it into a Ho-Oh balance because it can cover some of the special fairies that give Manec Mage builds trouble (CM Fairyceus and CM Magearna in this case), whilst also giving a breaker to put pressure on fat builds. I'd normally go for like LO Toxic or Band but in this case I felt like I needed some way to put better pressure on Slowbro balances so it ended up being Curse. Lunala is here to help scout Tapu Lele and threats like SD Mixdon, it's also running Focus Blast because I wanted a way to not get fucked up by Ttar and just lose. Max def Groundceus to make the roll vs Luc Terrak as good as possible (17 percent to KO). Rocks + Taunt Dia Terrak on the end here cause I needed speed control and Ho-Oh was the only breaker, it can generally force Rocks up if you manage to get the plays right, they're very high risk plays though so it was only really intended for an emergency situation.

W2 vs Andyboy - https://pokepast.es/45967c8c5c3a76ca

Figured this would be the best time in the tour to bring webs, as I was just gonna feel guilty if I brought HO and lost to anyone else. I saw Defog Lunalas so I spent most of the week trying to fit a secondary rocker into webs, ended up deciding that Pdon could probably drop SD cause Shuckle is better at setting Rocks vs Blissey and Slowbro builds. Lele ended up being 3 attacks over Taunt just to help cover the Blissey matchup a bit. Pdon can absolutely be Stone Edge if you want it to be since Pex is hit really hard by Erupt and Skarm is just not a mon, tbh if I had considered it at the time I probably would have made that change. Alt Zyg at the end because Andy likes Terrakion and I wanted some freedom to maneuver against that early game, also fits in nicely with the Lele Kart core by weakening Mage. Overall the team's probably one of the safer webs picks, but I'm not sure Rocks Pdon was actually that hot fire since even considering the free turns it might get whilst the opponent tries to sack stuff, clicking Erupt is generally just optimal. Also for the team I ended up facing some of the earlier versions with Xurk would have been hotter (I'll drop those at the bottom of the post).

W3 vs TectonicDestroyer - https://pokepast.es/83cc9a5bc668e673

Yeah so the original plan was to just bring solid speed control and a good breaker, not sure what happened to that but I failed miserably because I fuckin hate most of the speed control in the meta so running more than one of them was a big ask. I decided that instead the obvious pick was to bring the slowest team of all time which is definitely a super smart idea because fastest mon Ttar doesn't make games difficult at all. Team still covers a lot of stuff despite being built fairly hastily by my standards, I decided to build around Waterceus as a Groundceus that doesn't get bopped by Pinstei. This freed up Ttar on the build as it could take care of the non-Pdon Red Orbers that use Waterceus as bait, Ttar also helps trap Lunala for SD Don and frees Mandibuzz to run a spread with more Defensive investment to shore up the Kart matchup (this idea was taken off one of my builds from a while ago). Manec Mage was still needed for Kart because of how slow the team was and Alt Zyg ended up being the speed control for extra help in the Terrak matchup. This build is pretty weak to the special Fairies (Tapu Lele, CM Fairyceus, CM Mage, Xerneas) which is annoying because I can barely stop Lele or Xern here. Thankfully Pdon just kinda went in and sent 4 mons to hell which was fun.

W4 vs Jeran

Jeran hadn't played any mnm games yet this tour and his other replays have just been using a mix of my teams and Chazm's teams, so I didn't really want to try and prep against that. Wanted to build something I felt comfortable with that had a lot of outs for tough matchups like the week 1 team, but that just didn't work out so I ended up choosing between my sample webs and the week 1 team. I ended up going with the week 1 team because I webbed twice last time I played against Jeran in tour, and I kinda regret it because after Week 2 I wasn't really in the right mindset to keep bringing Mandibuzz teams because I've been doing that for the last year and it kinda needs to be piloted very well to be consistent in the meta. In the game I failed to get Mandibuzz back to full before Lunala got a free turn, I probably should have avoided this by using Terrak either to sack against Lunala and maybe force it to Z-Move, or get SR up so that Mandibuzz can check Lunala more effectively. Alternatively I could have gone for the roll on Pdon Eruption earlier in the game, but I think the route I took still had better odds. Either way, I didn't wanna look at that type of gameplan again after this game and everyone else was also spamming Mandibuzz which made it an easy target for counter-teaming, so I ditched the teams for future weeks.

W5 vs ChazmicSupanova - https://pokepast.es/420b8d465cd15f12

Niche breaker + two speed control options filled out in a way that makes the team more offensive (no bouncer yay). Fast CM Ground is important here for taking on Lunala to an extent and blocking Volt Switch from Magearna. Defog Lunala gets around the lack of Defog on the Arceus, as well as still being able to put offensive pressure on which can help the first three mons. Mage is the generic blanket check, I don't generally like using it on teams like this but once you use a team with a different Red Orber over Pdon and no Mage, Pins Mage and Zeraora tend to become nasty threats. Team was fun but got webbed.

W6 vs Skysolo14 - https://pokepast.es/6e3352b05fb10083

I went for Koko here partially because of the thing I said a couple lines up about Flying resists. I also realised at around the same time that running Nature's Madness could ease its crazy reliance on prediction. Since Koko's best switchins come from Mandibuzz I figured I may as well run a Lunala because it forces Mandibuzz to come in regularly and stay healthy. The Kartana set is an interesting idea that I got from POWER (can i just call him sed seriously), since you still break through most Steels and opposing Kart usage was going down you can somewhat afford to drop Sacred Sword depending on your team. Metagross is nice here as a less passive Steel and Rocker, and it's just generally solid in most matchups. Giratina-O is a pretty efficient Defogger and just sponges attacks from a bunch of threats, it's surprisingly useful on offense builds and I'm kinda disappointed that both this and Metagross only saw one use in the whole tour. Last slot is Groundceus for pretty much the same reasons that Groundceus went on the week 5 team, finding Lunala checks that don't sap momentum in general is one of the most difficult things to do on offense.

W7 vs maroon - https://pokepast.es/9f07afb5a39e2372

Was so busy trying to cover matchups against random stuff that I completely failed to notice that I put together the legendary triple Psychic + Psywave Bliss + no dark resist core. I was really fed up by this point in the tour and i probably could have put more effort into this in theory but I really just wasn't up for it. Pinched the Solg idea from fardin a while back, didn't think it would ever actually be useful on 99.5 percent of teams but I was more convinced by it in the current meta with Lele webs being so prevalent. I wouldn't use this again tbh, there's also a glaring hole with some Blissey matchups, particularly against stall.

Bonus semi-finals team built with Catalystic - https://pokepast.es/efece973f2713a68

So basically it's like one threat, stacked on top of another threat, stacked on top of another threat, stacked on top of another threat, stacked on top of another threat, stacked on top of a weird support Pdon set which carries the team on its back. Mamo + Pinstei targets bulky waters, Pinstei also provides an offensive check to Kartana which can help Mamo out. Both of those threats appreciate Alt Zyg as it can check Terrakion and keep up offensive pressure. From there the aim is pretty much to continue stacking threats because Mamo and Pinstei both appreciate being on heavily offensive teams that can take advantage of the holes they punch. Lunala and webs matchups are still a concern, so the team runs Ekiller and Magic Coat Lunala to help against those. Again both of these threats appreciate the crazy amount of offensive pressure that the rest of the team puts on, with Lunala generally having one check per team that can now be pressured and Ekiller having so many checks that you need like three other offensive threats to actually get anything useful out of the mon. Sponge mon Def Don at the end, it's kinda ideal to have something that shifts momentum back to your side and I'd say this mon is the best at doing it. SD can probably be swapped for Toxic or even just rocks as Mamoswine doesn't always have time to get them up. Also if Shuckle goes I'll probably change the Lunala to Defog over Magic Coat since it's more consistent and it can be frustrating when the opponent does actually somehow find the time to get rocks up. This is a nice team to smash ladder with or alternatively just a good team to learn how to play aggressively with in general, most matchups not named Pigeons stall are very much doable if you're willing to look for options.

https://pokepast.es/5450fc33531c7406 - The other webs teams I was considering vs Andy
https://pokepast.es/ffb7dab3a25cdadd - Bonus webs that I considered briefly for Chazm (Run SubCM Lele on this if real)
https://pokepast.es/6f74b74ee4e6ea80 - I like how this team looks? This may or may not have been an excuse to give away another free team without making a post elsewhere for it.

As you may be able to see from the descriptions I found prepping for ompl pretty annoying, bo1 is just difficult in general when people are prepping for each other and stuff like webs just makes it even more hellish. On top of this, in the 7 games I played, 3 of them just came down to Lunala being crazy and another 3 came down to webs being crazy, so I can't say I had much fun in the games either. For the most part I just felt that the mnm games I watched were super linear and boring, and the lack of team variety definitely didn't help either, though honestly the metagame is still fairly flexible. I guess the best example I can give there is the week 6 team I brought, which manages to distribute pretty much all of the important roles from Pdon and Mage throughout the team, in a playstyle where other common picks like Mandibuzz don't fit particularly well. In any case, I still wish good MnM building was easier, the fact that I've been playing this for so long and still don't seem to be able to quickbuild is just depressing tbh. I also just didn't like the tour in general for reasons I don't wanna start a rant about in here, but all I'm gonna say is that just about everything about these last two OMPLs in particular has rubbed me the wrong way and I should probably avoid the next one, even though realistically i'm probably not going to.

not gonna be doing as in depth of a post this time, but i still enjoy aaa so felt like i still had to make this post. obviously disappointed with how semis went since i was feeling pretty good going into it, especially with how we were doing in regular season. was glad to be on a team that was able to help bounce off ideas a lot, even tho i feel i may have burned aesf out asking him abt cool ideas i could build with every other day. s/os to jrdn/aesf/tcot for helping me with set suggestions, ill just get into the teams themselves now.

week 1 vs kimbo

the week was already over by the time i had to play kimbo, so i tucked the original team i prepped for him in the back (later used it vs lax) and just used a team i had prepped/used during aaa open. its a fairly simple goodstuffs team that uses a lot of sets that are easy to use. bulky pheal setup mons are just good atm (a recurring theme you see through quite a few teams i used) and this ones no exception. dual prio lop gives you a great offense mu, while a va tran can put a stop to stuff like koko/mag etc which can threaten fini. mbounce zap is one of my favorite sets this generation, as you can just put a hard stop to a ton of rockers as well as stopping status moves. @ this point in the meta i honestly find it super hard to not use a magic bouncer on every team just bc of how much other hazard removal sucks, and how much of a boon it is to bounce back hazards and win the hazard war that way. this rachi is a nice way to check a lot of stuff in 1 slot, as well as being able to get rocks up on opposing mbounce via skill swap. pex puts a hard stop to opposing cm mons, as well as checking stuff like volc. overall this was a time i had used quite a bit, and i really just felt comfy using it again.

week 2 vs motherlove

really enjoyed making/using this team as i feel it came out really nicely. this time i built around pheal kou, which i had been talking to jrdn about pre-ompl as a mon i felt could have some use. its combination of speed, good offensive typing (elec rules), and bulky make it a really nice mon. boltbeam coverage makes the most sense, and lefties+tect is a lot of recovery that just aids in kou being good. i wanted hazards to take advantage of the switches kou was gonna force, as well as be able to get more chip off its counters. this is where hippo+gren came in. prime sea gren honestly hits like a truck, and being able to put a stop to all fire types is nice. flash fire mag is another set i wanted to use since there exists no harder counter to naganadel (non moldbreaker sets) since it cant hit you at all. shuca was actually smth tcot thought up, as you are able to lure in ground types and kill them w/ ice beam. scarf tini since you can take out a lot of fat mons for kou to have an easier time via gambit, and it also is some nice speed control as well. steela as a backup steel type+magic bouncer.

week 3 vs lax

just re-used what i had originally prepped for kimbo since i wasnt sure what lax was gonna use. bd kommo is actually really fun and smth i had used when building aaa monotype a couple years ago. the combination of bd/sd lets you have a lot more freedom in your setup, and prevents kommo from being deadweight if it cant get a bd off. it does get quite a few chances to get the bd tho, as your opp generally doesnt expect it and pivots around a z move set or just being scared out by a strong cc. triage can then clean up, w/ z poison being able to put a stop to a lot of shit that resists fighting like fini/mew etc. this team was actually built around cune/muk as they work well together. scarf gren is solid speed control as well as giving you spikes if needed. lando as a rocker+check to buzzwole via helm+hp flying. and then steela to just finish it up as the steel+magic bouncer.

week 4 vs ham

really liked how this team turned out as well. it was a rework of a team i made during omwc that turned out quite a bit different, but the idea of noiv/mtar/desotran stuck around. i love specs noiv just bc of the dmg output boomburst gives you. chose to forgo fire coverage here since i wanted both trick/draco. trick is great for crippling mons in some mus, and i much prefer draco for hitting stuff like zapdos that can pivot in on boomburst. scarf kokos still one of my favorite forms of speed control, and it can either break/clean w/ scarf pixi returns hitting fairly hard. lando/buzz were added on at the end to just help w/ the defensive backbone of the team, as well as give me a couple pivots to come in on via uturns from noiv/koko. mbounce buzz was actually smth i hadnt rlly touched before this and i was rlly happy with how nicely it played compared to other magic bouncers. being able to stop rocks+check fighters/stuff like doublade etc is really nice to compress 1 slot into.

week 5 vs racool

wasnt sure what direction i wanted to take w/ racool so i just went w/ some whack shit i was thinking of after watching a lot of ou games w/ ditto balances. av mana is a great pivot, and can get in garchomp which served as the main breaker of the team. this is probably the closest to "stall" i got this season and i think its a fairly misguided attempt @ the end. think w/ a little more fine tuning the team could have turned out a bit better, but i still think the idea of some fat mons + ditto + breaker could be a good archetype for aaa.

week 7 vs sabella

we were already in so i just changed an old team from scarf krook -> scarf honch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

semis vs motherlove

was fucking lost this week, had like two ideas @ the start i built with and ended up w/ teams i liked. but i was kinda afraid of stall so i scrapped them both (heavily regret that now). ended up just changing kommo -> ground z for pex in case ml did stall. pretty disappointed w/ how this went since i always second guess myself w/ team choice and ive been trying to avoid it more.

overall even tho my record was good i still have a pretty sour taste in my mouth from how the tour ended, and i hope omwc starts soon to finish out the gen strong n_n

ps GL Volkner is still a nerd and i expect him to play the next tour

Hello. It is resident meme master of OMs DEG, but this time without my colleague SW. My memes were highly rated by a lot of users, controversial, and bad by many others but since I love you all I'm gonna dump my memes here, maybe you can use them later and learn more about meme culture. I have not posted many memes since I was jailed by TheImmortal and censored.

Meme 1
My journey started from this meme. I looked at DBW / snow / whatever his name will be when global warming takes our snow and seen that he has been overusing the TI's last pick meme to the point it became cringy so I stepped up and decided to meme his meme to teach our OM population that memes are art and should be crafted with love, and by love I mean newly created content that comes from the heart and not the same stupid meme from 2 years ago. If you want DBW I can give you memes lessons for free for a full month so I can teach you how to perfectly craft memes. This meme should be self-explanatory and doesn't require a high IQ or a degree in memelogy to understand, plus explaining a memes kills it as the proverb says - An explaining a meme a day keeps the meme staying alive away.

Meme 2
My colleague and I decided to reward brave meme posters with a certificate that congratulate them for posting such an inspiring, awesome and lovely meme. This meme requires a Rick and Morty level of genius to understand as it explores a kind of humor that isn't present in everyone, as proved by the bad meme posted by GL Volkner underneath it suggesting that my colleague and I are nothing but bad shitposters. This point was also proved by The Immortal as he started to think about shutting us down and censoring us even though our goal was only giving people some awards. I believe this was the turning point of my journey as this meme allowed me to become famous within the OM community and become a respected meme officer and teacher.

Meme 3
We decided to celebrate Catalystic second meme award with a party but a everyone already saw nobody joined the party and we were called heathens. After this fabulous invitation we got caught by The Immortal and were sent to the meme jail because they couldn't handle how dank these memes were or maybe because they were scared of our currency 'senpoints' becoming the premium currency of the OM community and creating a cout d'etat. These ideas require a degree a memelogy to create and I'm ready to enroll you to the university of memes.

Meme 4
This meme is an adaptation of a real life story that swept the nation. It was an emotionally and sad cry for help from local hero lavos after suffering defeat in an unwelcoming way. But you know, our society have no shame nowadays and meme everything including heartbreaking, sad moments as these. I, as a memember of the society decided to partake in such activities. In this meme I have decided to let my anger be known as I was devastated from losing the most prestigious tournament on Smogon OMPL and being censored by the leader of such subforum. Ever since, I broke free I became clean and free of toxicity, I would like to tell you to always move on from toxic people because that helps you. Enroll to the University of memes to clean yourself from the toxicity and become free.

Sadly, that's all I could post. [Insert emotional shoutouts and sad cry for help]. s/o Racool for being a big fan.

OMPL VII: In the eyes of Ransei

Looks like 3rd time really is the charm, huh. I'm glad to have finally managed a team that won an OMPL after making tiebreaker finals and losing two other times. Well anyway, this post will primarily cover drafting, shoutouts, and some self-reflection, but many of you in the OM community already knew. The aim is to make this not as long as my final OMPL V post but longer than my final OMPL VI post as I have quite a good bit more to say regarding drafts, shoutouts, and more!

Draft
As you know, I had once again decided to partner up with snow for OMPL. When it came to discussing how we wanted to draft our players this time the primary objective was to win. For a normal person that would obviously be the objective but I'm a pretty weird dude who no longer took it as an obvious objective due to my experience managing in previous OMPLs. snow and I decided to form up a relatively big list of players that were possibly getting drafted and simplified it to the players we wanted the most. In my case it were players I felt were top tier in their respective metagames. The best examples of these were Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) and Skarph. Both of them were successfully drafted. In snow's case it were trusted players who've proven to show success in previous forum tournaments. Examples will be seen below. We managed to make compromises with how the draft was going to flow before and during the draft. The mixture turned out to be great and most of our draft consisted of players either of us initially wanted. Despite gaining most the players we wanted, this was honestly the most difficult draft I've ever had. Throughout the draft I decided to try analyzing the cause for such a difficulty raise and came across a combination of two reasons. Starting in OMPL VI the total amount of teams increased from 6 to 8 and in this particular draft we had more different managers than ever before. This meant competition for drafts were at their absolute peak and teams became more vigorous with their upbids. I'd be lying to say this drafting process was any more than overwhelming. snow and I suffered through countless outbids. Almost all of the noms for AAA or MnM players we made were taken from us through outbids and it came to the point where we ended up having slim to no reliable option left for any of these two metas. I had to scour through the total list of players and pick a player who still AT LEAST played Mix and Mega. This is where SectoniaServant came in. We also trusted maroon since they showed success playing MnM in the previous OMPL and figured Sectonia would be a good support for him. The second reason this draft seemed to be so difficult was that despite having more fierce competition, the amount of great players we had sign up for the tournament were noticeably less. There were simply not as many great players to choose from as there were in previous OMPLs. I was overwhelmed enough by the lack of great players there were to have came up with a new philosophy during this draft. I figured it would be better to draft the greatest players who were rusty than the active players who were just good or mediocre. People would perceive the great rusty players as less valuable and spend less on them despite these players only getting back to their old selves sooner. AAA and STABmons in particular were metagames with a mostly small active playerbase, who often played less games and had less experience with the metagame overall than the rusty players we drafted did during their peak, even in Gen 7. I figured they would at least even the playing level with "active" players who were just good or mediocre before creeping back into their old state. The main players we considered under this philosophy were w0rd and racool. w0rd spend most of his time playing the Gen 6 metagames but carried onto early Gen 7 playing an extraordinarily high amount of STABmons games. During his time of activity he was generally referred to as the OM Champion, for he won the most tournaments and was considered the best overall OM player. It was honestly surprising to see people were looking down on w0rd for not playing the metagame in years despite the metagame haven barely changed and the amount of active players haven be reduced almost to none. racool has had previous success in AAA during OMPL 5 and had worked her way to becoming a much better AAA player afterwards. She did leave off and stopped playing within the next year but despite this, AAA was put under the same condition as STABmons but to a slightly smaller extent. We were fortunate enough to have had her in early on as constant outbids stripped us of any other solid AAA player.

Outside the changes in difficulty this draft had, I've experienced another difference. No longer was I the only manager of my team drafting. snow decided he wanted to take part in some of it so I gave him permission. His first course of action was discussing how our first nom would work. Once again the draft begun with our team being the first to nominate. In the previous years I've had some difficulty deciding which player I wanted to nominate first. Tracing back to @SW's plan to have Pepa120 nominated for other teams to upbid, snow decided to experiment with this further. He gave me the idea to nominate a player we didn't want, but was great enough to be worth loads of credits. With our team being the first to nominate, we took full advantage of this feat. The idea was that other teams were willing to spend credits more recklessly because they had the max amount. The plan truly worked since the player was bought for an expensive price. Afterwards, snow specialized on the ZU picks for the team. ZU was the only metagame in the tournament I was unsure of when it came to finding great players. Early on in the draft I told him I would be going afk for at least a few minutes, which I did, and came back seeing EviGaro on our team, which I had no problem with. We later on had a disagreement over whether or not Yami was going to be picked. snow wanted to add Yami to the team and I wanted Disciple_1 on our team instead. These disagreements pushed towards the end of the draft when we had enough credits to form a compromise and have both Yami and the Disciple_1 drafted. Outside of the nominations, snow took part in making more vigorous upbids to ensure we were getting who we truly wanted on our team. Funnily enough I ended up not drafting Disciple_1 because Anna says hi managed to grab my attention last second. Unsurprisingly, Anna hadn't been playing BH much for a while, but what was surprising was her overall constant activity on PS playing old gen formats within the several months prior to OMPL. With the experience she already had and the recent activity gain she had in playing competitive Pokemon I figured by the end of the draft that she would be the best option we had left for BH. Anna wasn't our only last second pick. Chaitanya also managed to grab my attention last second for AAA. He wasn't really an AAA player but I felt desperate for a second AAA slot to support racool. The three of us (Chaitanya, racool, and I) had some history with Monotype Winter Premier which resulted in both racool and I trusting him to be drafted after giving snow a notice.

Overall I enjoyed the draft and felt pretty confident about our team. I honestly had no idea how far the ZU players were going to go but I trusted snow's judgment enough to stay at ease.

Self-reflection
Overall there's some part of myself I'm glad of when it came to this tour. I became a mix of my OMPL 4 self and my OMPL 6 self in that I was a very passive manager who would go on trying to avoid any involvement in the OMPL threads and would cheerlead at times. Honestly once again I haven't really done much as a manager aside from cheerleading and communicating with the rest of the team over how our lineups or if something problematic went on. A manager being able to support with teams is good, but not exactly necessary for a good team. If you're trying to draft the best players of each metagame but don't actively play any of the metagames, odds are you'd be expecting your players to provide better support for each other than you could do for them. This was always how I went however. The main reason I wanted to draft Disciple_1 was because despite losing every game last year, he still played well. The biggest concern according to many great players were the teams he was using, which Gurpreet Patel ultimately could've helped with. I also would've been able to grant more support for him than I could have for any other player partially because we both have similar experiences playing BH and last year he often had me laddering BH to test his own teams to see what needed fixing. Despite the lack of team support I gave throughout this tour, I did do something in week 1. w0rd needed to test some games in order to get used to playing the metagame again so I decided to have some fun and see what the STABmons metagame had in store. I built 4 STABmons teams...

Click on the teams for their pokepast:

Glare Lop Offense [R]

I don't have anything much to say about this team. It aimed to cripple down fast Pokemon with Glare and had a mix of 2 special breakers, 1 physical sweeper, and a special sweeper to break as many metagame threats as I thought of. The rest of the team was for hazards and hazard control. Magearna had 148 Speed EVs to outspeed opposing Mega Lop after a Shift Gear.

Lando + Magnezone Offense [R]

Thought Lando-T was efficient enough so I decided to give it another run, but then noticed Mega Pidgeot was allowed in this meta and my Hackmon senses began to tingle. After building the Pidgeot I hoped to be able to sing and beat everything with Hurricane, I decided to add in Magnezone. Mega Pidgeot and I share a common hatred for competitive Celesteela, and Celesteela is top tier in STABmons. Magnezone bops Celesteela and we're good. Oh uh, Celesteela is annoyingly great in STABmons and I decided to be cruel so the next course of action was to implement it on the team. Afterwards, I felt the team needed a stronger special breaker, so Protean Greninja was added in. Last but not least there were hardly any strong physical attackers and Dragon Dance Garchomp seemed to have been a great option to cover that at the time

Mega Zard + Bolt Beam Offense [R]

Ok so from first glance one may be able to tell that I just looked at the S ranks and wanted to provide something to bop both Pokemon there. Well, BoltBeam Latios does that while pretty much leaving almost all of the A+ ranks being unable to switch in. Fini was added since I wanted two separate defoggers who weren't weak to rocks and could recover. Unlike Mew it also had the added benefit of blocking status for Choice Scarf Lando-T, who would've hated getting burned by Beak Blast. I noticed Charizard-Mega-X was high on the VR and so was interested to try using it. Part of the aim of this team was to be built around that Charizard. This is why you see two dofggers and multiple Pokemon resisting Charizard's weaknesses. Choice Scarf Lando-T just simply outsped and destroyed the likes of other Mega Lopunny, Mega Diancie, Toxapex, and Yanmega for example. The Magearna on the first team inspired me to make a Magearna for this team but with both physical and special moves for Calm Mind and Shift Gear. The Magearna on the first team had Shift Gear but it was only for speed so it had no physical attacks. Last but not least Rotom-Wash was there to Defog and continue roasting top tier threats if Latios was lost early on.

Mega Steelix Toxic Stall [R]

If I wanted to test teams I couldn't just spam offense teams the whole time. I needed something to balance out the deal so I made a stall team. I don't have much experience using or making stall but I tried my best. There are two special walls, two physical walls, a Celesteela, who is self explanatory, and a Rotom-Heat who took care of most of this team's weaknesses while attempting to change any opposing foe's secondary typing to scare them out. For this team I looked through the viability rankings and tried figuring out what Pokemon each of these did and didn't wall until I got bored.

A ZU team was also built to test against EviGaro but I never used it...

Dual Grass Offense [R]

I pretty much took what I thought was good, copied them off Smogon sets, and slapped them together. All I remember regarding this team is that adding in Gourgeist was a difficult decision and I was debating between it and something with a different typing in the process.

I'm not exactly sure how good these teams are, I think some of the STABmons ones are fine. Let me know.

Ok so while a part of me is a bit proud for the little I've done, I'm going to generally be honest, any hope of enjoyment I had in this tour crippled down after the early weeks and as time moved on it only became worse. The lowest points were when the 5-Star Jolteons were heading towards a playoff tiebreaker and the drama that occurred during the finals.
I'm going to have to be honest. At this point I feel I've probably been the most controversial manager to have ever managed here, and this is for several reasons:

In OMPL 5, I had my own team suffer just for the sake of trying to get other teams to upbid a certain player yet the team made finals tiebreaker regardless.
Under pressure I subbed out a player for reasons that disagreed with my own philosophy behind 5-Star Jolteons.
In OMPL 6 I managed to band a large group of AG players together to form a team and figured it would be better if my team DIDN'T make it so far into the tournament.
In this tour in this tour our team had another team and their managers try to play victim for preventable actions I could have tried harder to prevent.

Ok these are some of the things, but there's worse. There have been countless amounts of times throughout the latter end of the tour where I felt a greater desire for my own team to lose than for it to win in order to avoid the exact drama and backlash behavior I ended up getting during finals and after OMPL mostly from hax, which if you know, my own team has history of losing tiebreaker finals for once, still arguably BOTH other times. Oh well, at least I tried making OMPL reasonably enjoyable in a way it should've been. This section will not continue. I'm done here. Moving to shoutouts.

5-Star Jolteon shoutouts - These aren't in any particular order
Skarph - Thanks for carrying our backs in AG man. snow and I knew you were great enough to where we could draft you and you'd be able to stand by yourself greatly without any type of support.
Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) - The record might now show it but you were still definitely work the 19.5K with your teambuilds. Thanks for the massive support you gave to Anna and the rest of the team.
Racool - "Rustycool" Rustywho? Nice to see your records proving that rustiness couldn't stop you. RaGOAT! Thanks for all the support you gave to our team and for the times you helped ease down tension on our discord.
w0rd - I'm honestly still surprised you managed to come back for this OMPL. Nice to see you still proved yourself to be great in at least one OM despite losing activity over the years. It was definitely nice having you. Thanks!
SectoniaServant - Thanks for supporting maroon and keeping your cool whenever someone asked what team you were on or if you were drafted !_!.
maroon - Honestly, I didn't think we'd do good in MnM, but you just kept winning games, which majorly contributed to us getting playoffs. You did great man and snow's decision to draft you came without a mistake, contrary to popular belief. Thank you.
HeadsILoseTailsYouWin - Apparently I was the only one who knew you haven't been dead as a competitive mons player in the past several months prior to OMPL! Well that was nice, low cost for a lot of wins. Thanks for trying your best and cooperating with Gurpreet Patel throughout the weeks!
Yami - I'm sorry for the struggles you've had throughout the weeks, but I'm at least glad we managed to have a backup ZU player to take care of things whenever Evi was away. I probably should've done more for ZU.
EviGaro - This is late (some incident had the s/o removed and I forgot to remake it) First of all, Congratulations once again on getting RUTL during OMPL. I also wanted to say, snow clearly knew what he was doing when he drafted you. You did great! Thanks for trying hard in ZU.
Chaitanya - Thanks for being racool's cheerleader and playing even after saying you couldn't. I always want all my players to play :bloblul:. #worththe3k.
snow yo this is the most I've ever been able to collaborate with a manager in team tours. Though having a bit less control and having a co-manager not involved in OMs was worrysome, You've made yourself worth it by sharing really great ideas for the draft, partaking in reasonable decision-making, and honestly being my only one of my only real motivations in somewhat hoping 5-Star Jolteons would win. Hope we made you proud! Thanks for everything.

Now that these shoutouts were rushed out, there are also a few I'd like to give to people who weren't on the team.

E4 Flint, Snaquaza - Thanks for hosting.
The Immortal - I really appreciate you rooting for the 5-Star Jolteons throughout the tour. Thank you. Seriously you seemed to be the only one outside Jolteons to have actually cheered for the team, to the point where I wonder why you were doing it.
TectonicDestroyer - I hope you still have high spirits regarding OMPL. As you can tell from when I PMed you about a month ago, I'm drained. Giving you a shoutout because you showed the best spirit and most determination throughout this entire tour and the PM discussions were pretty amusing. It was pretty abnormal seeing someone hyped about their games and OMPL in general throughout the tour. We are blessed to have at least seen one user able to enjoy this tour simply for the integrity of it.

Everyone
Leaving this message in case this has been forgotten or you haven't seen my final OMPL 5 post. Please do not forget, everyone is a Jolteon at heart. Each and every one of us is an individual player, a leader of ourselves. Each and every one of us stand by our own responsibilities and make our own decisions when it comes to how we play or use our own Pokemon. This ultimately follows the philosophy of what it means to be a 5-Star Jolteon. Thank you and have a good day, night, evening, w/e.

Off topic but I've been slacking off to make this post throughout the entirety of last week and rushed most of the way through today so if you're confused about something or want me to explain part of what was typed a bit more then just ask me.
