It seems like fans of Gen 5 are much more vocal than fans of any other generation. Gen 5 isn't popular enough to win large-scale polls (e.g. 2020 Top Pokemon of the Year poll with Chandelure highest at #18) but people who love Gen 5 will make sure everyone knows they do.
