Post your searing hot takes

I just listened to the song (I have not heard it before and I haven't played Explorers of Sky), and honestly, the flute really lets down the song. Everything else about the song is great, but the flute feels out of place. It is honestly just comes out of nowhere and is basically just screeching. The pitch is honestly too contrasting to the rest of the instruments to feel in place for it (if the song was way higher pitch in general, then it prob would be fine) Is the song bad? No, its a pretty good song. But I don't think I would call it a peak song and I might listen to it once in a while.
I also listened to a remix of the song, and that song WAS peak. They reduced the pitch of the flute so it is in line with all the other instruments. I don't feel like my ears are been assaulted with the song anymore :D

Songs I used for reference:

ok fuck it? this is the hot take's thread and im gonna let myself get a bit heated so FORGIVE Me in advance ,,,,,

Zame is the worst (popular) Pokemon remixer of all-time. Half of his remixes are literally just the song with modern instrumental packs. Back in my day when there was a popular Pokemon remixer they actually basically reinvented tracks into almost entirely new songs that I still listen to to this day, I've never put a Zame track into my playlist because 90% of the time they are worse than the original.

that is also one of the worst DttF remixes I've ever heard in my life, shit barely hits the actual emotions the track is supposed to get out

it's so fucking loud and it takes away from the fact it's supposed to have a somber tone on top of the "epic" upbeat parts of the track. It's a nuanced song that this remix turns into basically just mid asf EDM with several layers.

I can list at least 5 different remixes that reinvent the track (without the flute!) that actually understand the tone the song is supposed to convey while this remix is ass and doesn't. and then i can list a bajillion that don't reinvent the track and also still understand it

even then, however, at the end of the day: the flute literally is not a problem with the track.

He mostly makes his money off of people who are predisposed to like that kind of thing because of nostalgia, I think. I say this as someone for whom that is absolutely true: I can really go for some of his Unova remixes.

wtf is going on in this thread bro the flute is goated. are y'all feds?
I feel like listening to the song standalone doesn't really do the "time" leitmotif justice as much as hearing it develop throughout the story naturally and building up through Temporal Tower/Spire's themes before that moment. I don't even like the fight that much because it's just another seed check but I appreciate the atmosphere.

Honestly every boss fight in PMD2 boils down to a seed check. I dunno if it's a hot take or not but the PMD games are balanced around Reviver Seeds and other items and that's kind of a detriment to the gameplay, since most boss fights boil down to either completely neutering the boss with a seed/move (shoutout to Vulpix for being the most broken PMD2 starter by a mile and a half thanks to how Imprison works in that game) and beating it down or stocking up on Reviver Seeds and ramming your head into a wall until it breaks. There are plenty of other balance problems too, these games really aren't hard if you understand them, but those two strategies require little to no understanding of the game to execute.

Super actually tried to rectify the former by making most bosses either recover from status very quickly or outright immune to status, but it also leans into the latter issue by dumping way more Reviver Seeds on you than is frankly reasonable. Oh, also that one emera that lets you infinitely revive your teammates at no cost exists, so I dunno what they were cooking there.

This but most of early game SMT IV - Sukukaja either trivialises the Minotaur and Medusa, or you get crit once and die the same turn, and there's basically no inbetween. And than Atlus just gotta do an Atlus and make the game's difficulty curve inversely proportional to where you actually are in the game lest you fail to avoid certain random encounters and end up at a mini-boss completely drained of resources (Koga Sabero comes to mind for some reason). I play a lot of the series with a fusion calculator on standby, and hoo boy is it easy to do some really stupidly game-breaking shit in these games.

"Dialga's Fight to the Finish" is a prime example of a good composition with an awful arrangement. That piccolo/ocarina/whatever playing the melody is far too high and mixes awfully with the rest. Maybe I'm just hypersensitive to these things but I cannot imagine casually listening to this theme and I don't get why people do.
as someone who doesn't even like the song, the flute is by far the best thing about it. high flutes in general are amazing, and more people should incorporate them in their songs.

i think this only fixes about half the issues with tera. forsure fairy and steel and water are very good defensive teras, and you get a lot of mileage out of even more niche teras such as tera ghost for the broken zama and dark on dondozo for kingambit. however i think you understate the damage just a stab tera can do; the recent suspect was at least 50% caused by people realizing that tera dragon outrage on gouging is incredibly busted since it both gets rid of its ground weaknesses and adds a water resistance and also allows it to brute force past things that should beat it such as garg or tusk.

i think gouging exemplifies the main strengths of same-type tera in that it adjusts weaknesses into neutralities and allows brute forcing, but its not just gouging that could abuse it. Volc, for example, sometimes ran tera bug to get rid of the problematic ground neutrality and water weakness and get past tinglu and glowking at +1. Kyurem runs tera ice on specs and some dd sets to obliterate glowking. Gambit runs dark to obliterate that one 1400s stall team that hasn't figured out they need tera dark on dozo yet, etc. etc.

And if we did ban unnatural tera, the list would only grow. For example, one thing i've been using lately is tera fairy on valiant to shed its weakness to moonblast and brave bird from various sources, allowing it to beat things like moltres and corviknight easier in conjunction with encore + coverage while also making moonblast a nuke. Tera ghost ghold does similar things with tusk and moth, tera fairy prim heals to full with draining kiss, tera dark weavile can run band semi-viably thanks to not needing boots for rocks as much, etc.

also megas and tera aren't remotely comparable purely because tera can be applied to everything. if megas were a mechanic to add +100bst to any mon, it would be different, but as it is, megas can be tiered separately because they are only specific mons.

I hate to be that guy, I know its bit late to reply to this fam but ill bite,

In shorter words I disagree, Megas back in Gen 6, the metagame worked around them because we knew what type a mon would be if they mega, with Tera's they can Tera into a favorable typing/resist, if you change Tera into a mon Tera-ing into their own type this would solve the issue overnight since just like Megas you can scout out the typing easily, there's no mind games or a "False surrender" (Pun intended)

I said this prior but to double down, they are very comparable just that Tera doesn't have the stat boosts, in fact when a Pokemon Tera's into their type they gain a special kind of Adaptability stab boost kind of like Mega Beedrill and Mega Lucario,

I wholeheartedly do believe that changing it to just a mons typing would fix the issues albeit 70%

I think we should introduce more X and Y Mega variants, like Charizard and Mewtwo had OR give you the select 1 of 2-3 Mega abilities like normal mons have

Some megas I look back on are hindered by their ability and typing and giving mons a chance to select between abilities would be sweet

Cetaceans are PEAK

Being on the absolute top of the oceanic food chain whilst having lungs? Evolving into this state because some deer-dogs wanted to eat shrimp? Having more brain folds than humans, in addition to a sophisticated language?

From Orcas bullying Great Whites, to Blue Whales being the largest animals in Earth's history and Sperm Whales terrorizing the deep sea without gills, these bastards are living proof that we live in the age of mammals

some scientists think that dolphins might actually be smarter than humans.

(at least acording to some articles that i found like 5 years ago that i cant find again)

the nintendo switch pro leak stuff turned nintendo social media into cringe "nothing ever happens" when in actuality almost all hardware leaks, the switch pro was probably real (the switch oled was probably a backup plan for the COVID chip crisis) and literally everything about the nintendo switch leaked

Ok, here is a real hot and serious take.

Tobias is my goat and I'll die on this hill, latios Darkrai and other awesome pokemon are used by him. This is a serious tournament he is attending, and his selection of mons seem serious to me, unlike many others who forget mons can evolve.

but somehow he still gets 6-0d by cynthia, damn you Tobias deserved to win!
when ash or one of his friends has a legendary, no one beats an eye. but when someone else has one, then there's a problem.

honestly, my main problem with the anime is how ash is basically the chosen one, and seeing someone else be the chosen one for once was a breath of fresh air.

You're real for this one. It's the tournament organizers' faults for not banning Legendaries. Tobias was just trying his best to win within the confines of the provided rules.

I got a hot take: I despise Big & Popular social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, Twitch, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Twitter (now known as X), Reddit, Discord (yes I'm going there and I don't care it's just an overrated pile of crap that people give it too much credit than it actually deserves!)) but yes, I despise social media owned by the big corpos just social media in general.

But if that wasn't heated enough, I despise Android & iOS too I just think this crap is really annoying and is so in your face its everywhere to an unhealthy amount! As a Gen Zer I love my fair share of Technolgy, but I really just want to put my thoughts out there so yeah F Smart Phones and social media. I also forgot to mention that I despise and loath IoT/Smart Devices in general.

Since anime mentioned, anime take: Pokemon anime is way better when it has the tone of SM than most of them, esp. animes like XYZ.

Reason is simple, I feel like shonen just doesn't work with this international standard of what can be in the show. I felt like it was basically a garbage shonen that happens to have Pokemon in it.

On the other hand, Pokemon anime seasons are generally like 80% filler because they want to make episodes for all the Pokemon, so making a Pokemon anime where it's a slice of life comedy with the Pokemon/new characters providing that comedy? And now you can actually work hard on making that concept be *genuinely good* because you're not using a genre that's restrictive?

Wayyyy better.
