Post your searing hot takes

Since I'm a massive music nerd now, I'll drop some of my music hot takes
  • Graduation isn't in Kanye's Top 5 albums
  • Random Access Memories > Discovery
  • The Beatles only have two 10/10 albums
  • Kissland is the worst Weeknd album
  • Both "Real Rap" and "Mumble Rap" should coexist, and the people that say "Real Rap is the only good rap" are so corny
  • Dark Side of The Moon is the worst of Pink Floyd's Top 4
  • Prince > MJ
  • 50 Cent is the overrated rapper of all time
  • Evermore and Red >> Everything in else in Taylor Swift's discography
  • Weezer's White album is on the same level as Blue and Pinkerton
  • Minecraft Volume Alpha is a genuinely amazing ambient record
  • Charli XCX > Every other Pop artist right now
  • If you only listen to one genre, your musical opinions generally matter less due to bias + unfamiliarity with other musical topics and genres

hot take: like half these aren’t even that hot

counter take: video game music is designed to repeat because you’re supposed to be doing something else while it’s playing. It’s a great silence filler while you’re laddering or just talking to friends on Discord, but as an actual listening experience, it’s pretty unfulfilling most of the time

also “it has no lyrics so you can hear the actual music” is possibly the dumbest thing I’ve heard anyone say about music in the last year and a half. The voice is an instrument like any other

I generally don't have a problem with vocals being used as an instrument but I consider that separate from lyrics (for which there's an emphasis on words rather than just sounds). I do find the latter distracting, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's for wierd brain reasons (what priority interpreting words is given and whether doing so requires enough effort that it can't be multitasked over).

The College Dropout, Late Registration, 808s, MBDTF, and Yeezus > Graduation

I agree with College Dropout, Late Registration, 808s, Dark Twisted Fantasy, but YEEZUS????? I like Yeezus a lot but no shot in the dark it's better than Graduation. I respect your opinion though.

Lyrics:
Ahhhh, ah ah ah ah ah ahhhhh ah
AHHH AHHH AHHH ahh ahh ahh ahh
Ahh ah ah ah ah ahhhhh
Ah ah ah ah ah ahhhh ah

you will now be distracted when hearing the beginning of this song

Tbh I personally don't think that MBDTF is a top 5 Kanye album. Like it's good but I don't get the emotions or messages I get from Graduation, Late Registration, 808s, Yeezus or Life of Pablo. MBDTF is still better than Ye, Jesus is King and Donda (all three albums I REALLY dislike) but I think it's just below most of his other material

anything can be an instrument, and i love a good choir, but lyrics are not what i look for in a song. i want to hear the song, not the words that can go along with it. lyrics are a novelty that can be entertaining the first few times you listen to a song, but i dont listen to a song to hear someone say words. if i did, i would listen to poetry. if you enjoy lyrics, that is fine, but i listen to music for the music, not the words. there are exeptions, and i dont mind it if it is used sparingly, but lyrics arent for me.
