Congratulations to Scizorphobic for winning last week's PU Matchmaking with Type:Null. The defensive utility that these two provide for each other is almost flawless! Also congratulations to Oathkeepre for runner up with his Lycanroc submission as well, getting rid of those physical attackers that trouble Lycan is always nice! The votes for runner up were also super close this time around so good job to everyone. Thank you all for submitting and voting!

Week 3!

Simisear @ Firium Z / Grassium Z
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast / Taunt / Substitute
- Nasty Plot

One of PU's most potent wallbreakers/stallbreakers/setup sweepers, Simisear is one of the only viable Fire-type Pokemon in the tier. With a movepool that includes options such as Fire Blast, Grass Knot, Focus Blast, Taunt and Nasty Plot, the fire Monkey is able to threaten most of the tier for neutral damage and it's latest rise in the VR has been reflected by its great set of stats, right amount of utility and potential power.
Untiered doesn't necessarily mean bad, but is this monkey equally successful in finding love in the tier as it is in blasting it with fire?

Good luck and everything stays the same! Great job with the past submissions ^-^

Persian-Alola @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Parting Shot
- Thunderbolt

Alolan Persian makes for a decent Simisear partner for many reasons. First of all, it's able to bring Simisear in safely thanks to Parting Shot, which also gives it setup opportunities, such as against the likes of Clefairy. It can also fully heal Simisear with Z-Parting Shot, giving it a second chance to wallbreak or sweep. Secondly, they have similar checks, such as Guzzlord and Lanturn. Simisear can weaken them for Alolan Persian to clean. Lastly, Alolan Persian is able to check threats that pose a huge threat to Simisear, such as Lycanroc and non-Choice Scarf Dodrio. I would recommend pairing this core with checks to fast revenge killers, such as Primeape. Froslass is an incredible one as it can also help Alolan Persian and Simisear do their job thanks to its Spikes. Mesprit works too, and it can also Healing Wish one of them, giving them a second chance.

Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Drain Punch

Eelektross provides a slow Volt Switch to allow Simisear in without the risk of being heavily crippled. It can also weaken pokemon like Lanturn so Simisear can sweep easier. With Drain Punch, it can even chip down Guzzlord!

► Simisear is a great wallbreaker in the tier right now. Considering it being +2 and it hitting all its moves gives teambuilders a lot of trouble checking it defensively.
However, there are some checks that have to be dealt with beforehand like Audino, (Regirock), Lanturn, Hitmonchan, Altaria, Jellicent or Eelektross.
► Having that in mind, I wanted to create a core that chip away at eachothers checks or even kill them. Stoutland and Simisear can be such a core! But let's go in detail.

@ Firium Z or Fightinium Z / Blaze
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe / Timid
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast

► For Simisear, I chose the standard Nasty Plot set. The second you set it up, you will be able to support Stoutland very well. Being able to get important chip on Quagsire, Regirock, Gurdurr or Mudsdale is very useful so Stoutland can break with its Choice Band set.
► Also, it's nice to have your Stoutland not take Will-O-Wisps by weaker ghosts like Sableye and Froslass ("weak" in terms of how much it does to Simisear usually) and switchin the ape instead. Sure, Facade is there to take just that, but in the early state of a game you will be thankful that you have the option to pivot out into Simisear on a potential Willo.

173463

@ Choice Band / Scrappy
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Adamant
- Return
- Facade
- Pursuit
- Superpower

► Stoutland on the other hand has the potential to Pursuit-chip Pokemon like Jellicent, Eelektross, Audino, Altaria or Lanturn. Of course, the classic Return will do a ton as well but most of the time your opponent wants to save those Pokemon to check Simisear lategame; so rather clicking Pursuit will be way more helpful.
► Also, your opponents will be scared to switchin their Regirock (or Carbink) into Stoutland because of Simisear just being omnipresent. And if they do, the chip damage goes a long way at killing it later with Grass Knot.
► The last thing I want to mention is their Stall matchup. Since I see far less Carbink on Stall (at least on the ladder), this core can pressure a lot of teams pretty well. Pursuit trap the Altaria and pressure down potential Spdef Hakamo-o (if you face tlenit) and you should be good to go! If you want to have a slightly better Stall MU, you can think about running Fightinium-Z Simisear to increase the damage output on Carbink and Hakamo-o.

173460
173461

► So a nice breaking core we got here. But often times, such cores come with some flaws; be it too little role compression for the team or a bad Offense Matchup. So you want to patch up the problem with speed and, of course, you need a defensive backbone; potentially with Voltturn to get your threats in.
► I think a nice start would be Silvally Fairy. With it, you have a much needed switchin to all Fighting Types and a hazard Removal as well. Parting short further improves Simisear's breaking capabilities since it can setup easier after the drop from PShot.
► Another Pokemon I could see working would be Lanturn. I haven't talked about Stoutland's (and Simisear's too) problem with the infamous Hail Core. You will always be struggling to click Return if Aurorus or Sandslash are still alive. So having a pivot into both of them is great. Also you stop the momentum opposing Lanturn try to gain if they switched in on your Simisear. Lastly, Lanturn lures in the likes of Eelektross, Audino, Altaria or Grass Types that all get pressured by either Stoutland or Simisear.

BAD DECISIONS (Lanturn) @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP / 220 Def / 248 SpD
Calm Nature
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Toxic
- Heal Bell

Toxic Lanturn does a nice job of spreading status to opposing lanturn and other fatmons with the bonus feature of pivoting simisear with volt switch. And of course as a water Lanturn can threaten Rock and Ground-types naturally. Basically puts Simisear in a really good position to pull off a full sweep against a worn down team.

Victreebel @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Strength Sap

There are 3 things that our beloved piano-playing fire monkey doesn't like. Those things are grounds, rocks, and waters. Victreebel deals with all 3! Victreebel can come in on potential threats like Mudsdale and Strength Sap its HP right back up and then fire back with Leaf Storm. Lanturn is also a potential problem if Simisear is running Firium > Grassium and Leaf Storm can help here too!

Jellicent @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hex
- Taunt
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp

Jellicent is an amazing partner to Simisear, carrying excellent physical bulk to stop scarfers like Primeape and Dodrio from coming in to hit Simisear on it's nasty plot turns, as well as an ability that allows it to soak up water type moves for Simisear in Water Absorb, while it's reliable recovery allows it to come in multiple times throughout the game and be a nuisance to the opposing team.

Voting phase!
As always, grateful with the fantastic effort put into these posts! Im quite interested in going over some of these submissions, seems like a lot of users focused on the synergy that Simi has with other wallbreakers, such as the Persian, Stout and Victreebel posts, creating offensive synergy, then there are the more defensive pairings like Simi and Jelli, Lanturn, Eel (More of an offensive pivot that offers certain defensive utility). Its always cool to see the different angles in which people take these pairs, since theres so many options for synergy, so great job everyone! Without further ado lets see which of these Pokemon will be paired with our famed Fire-type Monkey!

Congratulations to Oathkeepre for winning this weeks PU Matchmaking with his Victreebel submission! Also congratulations to jonago for achieving runner up with Stoutland. A lot of wallbreaking power is achieved with these pairings which supports Simi in the end game or for simply overwhelming threats on the special and physical side! Thank you to everyone who submitted and voted!

Week 4

Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet / Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Drain Punch / Knock Off / Acid Spray / Thunderbolt

After exploring a physical wall and a special wallbreaker/sweeper, I thought it'd be appropiate to look at a specially defensive pivot. Eelektross is an offensive pivot that functions as a blanket check to many special attackers in the tier including Omastar, Lass, etc. Its lack of actual type weaknesses and coverage makes it incredibly hard to switch into, but its slow speed paired with a physical defense stat that makes it susceptible to strong physical attackers, while it also has to be wary of status, makes it easy to take advantage of. It also doesn't have enough Sp. Def to take on certain stronger special wallbreakers, but its perks are definitely a lot more beneficial than its shortcomings with the right support. This will be a fun one so...lets get on with it, find this eel a nice partner!

Rules stay the same! Ay, good luck!
