Aurorus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power Rock

Ok so basically Aurorus really appreciates being brought in via a slow voltturn to wallbreak. I think that Aurorus works p well alongside knock off eel as eel can cripple stuff like Clefairy and Audino and it invites stuff like Guzzlord for Aurorus. In return, Aurorus pressures stuff like pom-pom, which koff eel struggles against. Finally, Aurorus appreciates Eel's ability to switch into stuff like Alolan Duggy, and, if Aurorus is locked into Hidden Power Rock, Mudsdale. This core works pretty well with another momentum gainer such as Mesprit or Primeape and Spikes setter like Froslass and Qwil, as they allow both Aurorus and Eelektross to apply more pressure on the opponent, and other momentum gainer give Aurorus and Eel more opportunity to come in.

Qwilfish @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Scald
- Taunt
- Toxic Spikes

eel is immune to ground and resists electric which are both v nice for qwil. AV sets can pivot into psychic and such too. qwil absorbs scalds and toxic while getting up its own hazards and overall make the pivoting by eel more annoying. typing can make it decent at taking certain physical hits.

Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Atk / 212 Def
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up / Toxic
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch

If there's two things Eel hates, it's status and physical wallbreakers, and Gurdurr provides an answer to both. Able to come in on things that threaten Eel such as Stoutland, Aggron, Audino, and occasionally Guzzlord, Gurdurr is able to provide additional chip for Eel with the use of knock off or toxic, and Eel is able to wear down Gurdurr answers like Pom Pom and Mesprit in order to set up for a potential Gurdurr sweep.

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power Fire
- Leech Seed / Synthesis

Eelektross is a nice special attacking mon with wallbreaking capabilities with Acid Spray to lower SpDef. As KellyKafka put it, Eelektross does not have any natural weakness with its Electric-typing due to Levitate. Therefore, only Mold Breaker mons with Earth Power and Earthquake can super-effectively hit Eelektross and the only viable mons that fit that criteria are Pinsir, Rampardos, Basculin and Throh; all of which are physical attackers. This is why I chose arguably the bulkiest physically defensive pivot in PU right now in Tangela. It eats up every physical hit that would threaten Eelektross from doing serious damage!

Stoutland @ Choice Band
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- Facade

Eelektross not only provides a safe switch in for Stoutland via Volt Switch but can also cripple and take down checks to Stoutland like Mudsdale, Regirock, Bronzor, and Gurdurr using its coverage inGiga Drain and Knock Off. A simple but effective core that can really annoy bulkier teams

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- U-turn
- Healing Wish

Yeah yeah Mesprit is a boring pick but, not only does it solve some issues that Eelektross has, it also helps out breakers or anything that appreciates slow momentum in your other 4 slots.

Eel doesn't like physical attackers at all, it can usually tank a strong one but you're too chipped at that point to really annoy your opponents team. Mesprit helps remedy that problem with its great defensive typing and stats. Being able to switch in on Gurdurr, Hitmonchan, Dodrio, Primeape, AV Crab, ect. Taking the pressure off of Eel is invaluable to using it well. Healing wish also allows you to get eel all the way back up to full, which is nice if u had to go hard eel and get chipped at some point.

Mesprit and Eelektross also give you some slow momentum, allowing breakers like Stoutland, Guzzlord, Drampa, Aggron, and others to get in for free without taking damage. I think this is a great reason to use the two as not only do they help each other out defensively, they also ease up building and help out almost everything as getting in for free is crucial.

Mesprit is good, what a surprise lol

Froslass @ Leftovers
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Hex
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp

the thing about eel is that it's just a great disruptor to more balance-oriented teams but can struggle a bit when tryna break stuff. spikes + eel is the most annoying combo i've faced when using balance and froslass compliments it so well it's unreal (it compliments most mons tbf). froslass deals with most sr setters and prevents them from doing much, something which qwilfish can't do quite as well (see def mes).

Voting phase!

I was really excited to see what type of submissions Id get for this since the Eel is such an interesting Pokemon both offensively and defensively and I was not disappointed, so ill put this in the voting phase now so everyone can vote to decide which will be the Eels partner in love and in battle! From wallbreakers to SR and Spike setters to physical mons, which of these will be the one *heart eyes*?

Congratulations to j0gurt for winning last week's PU Matchmaking with his Stoutland submission! Bringing in this incredibly strong wallbreaker through a slow pivot seems only appropriate. Also congratulations to orangebeedrill for achieving runner up with Gurdurr effectively alleviating some of the eel's defensive problems!

Week 5

A powerful offensive typing, sets such as Life Orb and Scarf, a useful ability as well as a great movepool make Abomasnow a force to be reckoned with in the tier. Despite these great attributes, a low speed and awful defensive typing makes it hard to function without the right support. Who will be the one to find the right partner for this Christmas tree?

(Mention which Aboma set you're using so everyone can get a clear idea of how this core functions)

Rules stay the same! Have fun!

k so basically mes is good with everything lol.

On a serious note, Mesprit is a great Abomasnow partner for multiple reasons. First of all it's able to bring Abomasnow in safely thanks to a slow U-turn against the likes of Lanturn and can ease its job with Stealth Rock. Secondly, Mesprit is able to check Fighting-types such as Gurdurr and Hitmonchan which might try to revenge kill Abomasnow. Thirdly, Mesprit can give Abomasnow a second chance to wallbreak / sweep with Healing Wish, making it an overall amazing partner.

Also, I think that Mesprit works especially well with the Swords Dance set of Abomasnow, which is able to take on stuff like Articuno and Audino for Mesprit. This set also appreciates Mesprit's ability to switch into Fighting-types like Gurdurr, which can wall it, even more. This set can also act as a late-game sweeper, which means it appreciates the Rocks Mesprit sets even more, and also the chip it causes with simply spamming U-turn.

Sandslash-Alola @ Icium Z
Ability: Slush Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Substitute

Cool mon if I do say so myself, Alolan Sandslash is able to capitalize on the hail set by Abomasnow and help break down special walls like Clefairy for any Aboma lacking SD.

Raichu-Alola @ Aloraichium Z
Ability: Surge Surfer
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Nasty Plot

Alolachu works well with Abomasnow and how so? Well, Raichu-A hates Ground types and while it can deal with them with Grass Knot, LO Abomasnow takes pressure off of it and can deal with threats such as Mudsdale, Claydol, Quagsire, Gastrodon, and Golurk. In turn, Alolachu can handle threats like Gurdurr and Hitmonchan.

Abomasnow @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty/Mild Nature
- Blizzard
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Ice Shard

This Abomasnow set is my go-to. I was running a team with this exact combo before and it was working really well. This forms a nice breaker-breaker core and I feel they just make each other's job easier.

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP / 220 Def / 248 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Heal Bell / Protect
- Volt Switch

Lanturn provides several uses for it's partner Abomasnow, namely its large amount of resistances and its slow Volt Switch giving Obama some free momentum. Firstly, its good defensive stats and great defensive typing make it work well as an answer to many of Abomasnow's checks, like Simisear, Snowslash, Regirock, and Hitmonchan as Lanturn is able to chip down or force out several of these answers from fear of a toxic or a scald burn. In addition, Lanturn's two weaknesses in ground and grass line up very well with Obama's resistances, and so Lanturn can lure in a Mudsdale or a Bellossom for Abomasnow to start tearing through. With these attributes, Lanturn serves as a great partner for any Abomasnow set by adding some nice defensive synergy to our frail christmas tree by weakening its checks and pivoting it in for it to wreak havoc on the opponent's team.

Mudsdale @ Choice Band
Ability: Stamina
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Heavy Slam
- Rock Slide
- Close Combat

Abomasnow @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Blizzard
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Ice Shard

Abomasnow appreciates the help Mudsdale gives handling physical attackers like Hitmonchan and Aggron, while it takes these hits and fires back with it's choice banded attacks.

And to complete the breaker-breaker core, Abomasnow comes in on the grass and ice types that threaten Mudsdale, and blast them with guaranteed life orb boosted blizzards, while carrying great coverage of its own.
