Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 44 HP / 252 SpA / 212 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast / Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Grass

Specs Aggron is a neat lure for stuff like Mudsdale, Regirock, Quagsire, and even Gurdurr. Flash Cannon hits Regirock, Mudsdale, and Gurdurr harder than anything else while Earth Power hits opposing Aggron harder and is a more reliable way tp hit Metang. Fire Blast hits Alolan Sandslash, Bronzor, and Metang while Focus Blast hits stuff like Audino harder. Lastly, Hidden Power Grass nails Quagsire. Neat set.

This week's winner is tondas with his SubToxic submission! Congrats! I swear I'll update the archives one day (lol)

This week's subject is...

Guzzlord! Its impressive bulk, good attacking stats, movepool and typing make it an extremely solid pick in this metagame, whether it's as a wallbreaker or a pivot. Its aforementioned bulk and typing allow it to take advantage of and force out threats like Eelektross, non-Dazzling Gleam Mesprit, and Jellicent while its movepool leaves it with no counters. However, its incredibly large movepool is still somewhat underexplored. Good luck and have fun!!

Careful Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic

I guess I gotta submit rest-talker as I havent really ran anything else. When this dropped this was a small "upgrade" for original kommo-o as spdef wall when I needed a mon to take care off lilligant, oricorios, victreebells, jellicents, manectric and etc... It can also live +2 omastar ice beam, +2 focus blast from both raichu and simisear and force all set uppers out with dragon tail. Especially when you have hazards up guzzlord becomes extremely handy even its uninvested stab DTail. Rest-talk keeps it healthy and doing its job spreading toxic and switching mons out and avoiding the set ups

Guzzlord @ Metronome
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 156 Def / 76 SpA / 48 SpD / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Dark Pulse
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower

so Guzzlord can force switches nicely and thus get up a sub, as well as avoid getting poisoned by slower foes. Metronome lets Guzzlord capitalize on sub and can punish opponents trying to switch around for mind games. stolen from a gum team so u know its good!! also getting the chain increase on mons scouting w protect is dope

expert belt

Guzzlord @ Expert Belt
Ability: Beast Boost
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower

Expert Belt helps Guzzlord to have a higher damage output on the opposing target, when the move it uses is super effective against it.
Dark Pulse hits the psychic types super effective such as Mesprit and Alola Riachu meanwhile Sludge Bomb is there to hit the fairies for a super effective damage.
Draco Meteor is Guzzlords strongest dragon STAB and threatens everything bar fairies, which try to switch in. Flamethrower is a good coverage option
to hit ice types and also steels for a good damage output. Basically Expert Belt serves as a less powerful but still viable Choice Specs alternative.

Calcs overall:
Somce Calcs with E-belt:
252+ SpA Expert Belt Guzzlord Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Clefairy: 134-158 (38.9 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Expert Belt Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Colbur Berry Mesprit: 134-160 (36.8 - 43.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Expert Belt Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mesprit: 269-319 (89.3 - 105.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Expert Belt Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Colbur Berry Jellicent: 134-160 (33.1 - 39.6%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO

Same Calcs without the E-belt:
252+ SpA Guzzlord Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Clefairy: 112-132 (32.5 - 38.3%) -- 97.9% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Colbur Berry Mesprit: 112-133 (30.7 - 36.5%) -- 64.5% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mesprit: 224-266 (74.4 - 88.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Guzzlord Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Colbur Berry Jellicent: 112-133 (27.7 - 32.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

RestTalk + Rocky Helmet

Guzzlord @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Tail
- Poison Jab

RestTalk is a well-oiled strategy, but I think that Rocky Helmet can be a good bet becuase it allows to do chip damage to physical threats unable to OHKO Guzzlord.
Dragon Tail allows us to phaze out set-up sweepers whereas Poison Jab hits Fairy-type pokemons that are immune to Dragon Tail. What I really love of Poison Jab is that 30% poison chance, which is really handy because many pokemons that resist Poison don't have reliable recovery.

P.S. Yes, Jmash324, I consider this set different from the SpD RestTalk above for some reasons:
(1) Rocky Helmet over Leftovers. Albeit the latter item is nice to recover HP, I'd like to spread more chip damage in the process of tanking physical hits.
(2) Physical investment makes more sense here because my Guzzlord has to take physical hits (not named Knock Off) and retaliate back.
252 Atk Choice Band Primeape Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Guzzlord: 530-626 (81.5 - 96.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(3) Poison Jab vs Toxic. I chose the former move in order to avoid being a Taunt-bait and it is a solid choice towards reckless Fairy switch-ins. Also keep in mind that Toxic deals more damage than regular poison only from turn 4 onwards.

Guzzlord @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 164 Def / 200 SpA / 144 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Pulse
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
This is a genius tec. Guzzlord is known for tanking at least one hit from everybody. With that spread, you are able to tank Primeape's CC or Modest Mesprit's Dazzling Gleam after Rocks for example. And after it actually was hit by such attacks, you get a kill for sure because of the Weakness Policy!
And since often times you, as Guzz' opponent, need to chip away at Guzzlord with U-Turn from Primeape, Scyther or Mesprit, you will be punished heavily for doing so!

So apparently nameless90 didn’t bother checking or he considers RestTalk with Defense investment and Helmet different than SpDef RestTalk. ok

Nom Nom Nom (Guzzlord) @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 36 Atk / 232 Def / 176 SpD / 64 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

SubToxic Guzzlord
This set feels better on paper than in practice but can still function decently. Substitute allows Guzzlord to punish passive Pokemon easier, with the EV spread allowing Substitutes to tank Poison Jab from Jolly Skuntank and Sludge Bomb from Roselia. Toxic helps rack up damage more consistently, while Knock Off and Earthquake have the best overall coverage in two attacks. The Speed EVs also let Guzzlord outpace Regirock.

Guzzlord @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 136 Def / 60 SpD / 60 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Knock Off
- Heavy Slam
- Fire Blast / Drain Punch

After extensive searching, I found Guzzlord's support movepool to be nearly nonexistent, so here is Physical Dragonium Z Guzzlord. The opponent probably will suspect a Specs Guzzlord and then after physical is revealed they will expect a Band Guzzlord so Dragonium Z keeps your opponent guessing and lets Guzzy select the appropriate coverage move once the opponent is switched in. A one time Devastaing Drake is a nice nuke that removes Outrage's negative side effects. Knock Off + Fire Blast gets Tangela, while Drain Punch gives some nice recovery.

Physical Life Orb TR Attacker

Guzzlord @ Life Orb
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Hammer Arm
- Outrage
- Knock Off
- Gyro Ball

First time doing one of these but I have been having a lot of success with Guzz on TR. This specific set isn't the one I use the most, however it should still be very competent, using Guzzy's high powered STABs to take frailer teams apart while Beast Boost allows things to quickly get out of hand. Hammer Arm is a powerful coverage option that also lowers speed (which under TR is not a bad thing) and Gyro Ball has monstrous power thanks to our Dark Lord's low speed. This Guzzlord can eat offensive teams for breakfast, although it admittedly struggles a tad more against more defensive playstyles. As a late game cleaner under TR, however, this thing can be a monster.

Iron Defense RestTalk Guzzlord

178528

Guzzlord @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Defense
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Tail

Even with just 1 iron defense Guzz becomes pretty challenging to kill, and using Dragon Tail you prevent others threats like Gurdurr from stat-upping, if you got any entry hazard and maybe some status around you can slowly weaken the enemy team and set up the stage for a good sweeper to finish the job.

Some calcs here:
252+ Atk Gurdurr Drain Punch vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 194-230 (29.8 - 35.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
-
136+ Atk Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 210-248 (32.3 - 38.1%) -- 1.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
-
252+ Atk Sandslash Icicle Crash vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 142-168 (21.8 - 25.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
-
252 Atk Primeape Close Combat vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 282-332 (43.3 - 51%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
