Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Defensive Weezing is a counter to Mudsdale, walling it easily with an immunity to Earthquake and Toxic, while setting up Toxic Spikes for free. Weezing can also burn Mudsdale and Taunt it to prevent Stealth Rock from going up.
Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Atk / 64 Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Bulk Up
Gurdurr is a counter. With the eviolite boost, Gurdurr can switch in and only take around 25% from an EQ. As well as tanking Mudsdales attacking moves, Toxic works in favour of Gurdurr because of Guts and while Mudsdale uses protect, Gurdurr can bulk up and do some serious damage
Natu just simply says do. not. touch. and counters mudsdale all day long! The only set of mudsdale doing anything is with rock slide. Every other set cant touch at all. Even that rock slide is 3hko against natu (Rock Slide 41.2 - 49.1%). And if Natu used roost on same turn its only 20.6 - 24.5%.
Thanx to its ability magic bounce is bouncing stealth rocks and toxic back and giving u the edge on hazard/status controlling. If Mudsd, has decided to click EQ, u have a free reflect/status move to click.
Counter. Defog removes rocks. Leaf Storm 2HKOs Mudsdale while allowing Lurantis to set up. Aromatherapy removes Toxic from team. Synthesis negates chip damage.
8 SpA Lurantis Leaf Storm vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mudsdale: 270-318 (72.1 - 85%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
56+ Atk Mudsdale Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lurantis: 58-69 (16.9 - 20.1%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
Rock Slide does the same as Earthquake.
Aurorus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Ancient Power
I see that everyone’s submitting their counters so I decided this would be an opportune moment to submit a Mudsdale check aka Specs Aurorus. Aurorus is the embodiment of a check as it obviously doesn’t switch into Mudsdale unless given a free switch but once it gets in, you have delicious frozen horse meat to thaw in the microwave.
(Don't Google Images Mesprit unless you're a degenerate :/)
Mesprit @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 208 HP / 48 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
Sub CM Mesprit is an uncommon but perfectly viable counter to Mudsdale. Sub up while it attempts to set up Rocks or even better, Toxic you and render it helpless against you while posing as a huge threat to the opponent's team overall via Calm Mind setup.
Rotom-Frost @ Icium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blizzard
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Defog
Rotom-Frost as a Check, Defogs pretty easily against Mudsdale as it is forced out by the threat of Blizzard, and can cripple it with Will-O-Wisp so Rock Slide doesn't do too much.
56+ Atk Mudsdale Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Frost: 144-170 (59.7 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
56+ Atk burned Mudsdale Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Frost: 72-85 (29.8 - 35.2%) -- 20.5% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Rotom-Frost Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 156 SpD Mudsdale: 300-354 (74.2 - 87.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Rotom-Frost Subzero Slammer (185 BP) vs. 252 HP / 156 SpD Mudsdale: 500-590 (123.7 - 146%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery
Due to the many counters this week, I decided to go with Choice Specs Jellicent as a check. Doesn't switch in great, but sure destroys it given a chance.
My apologies, this post will be a lot less flashy than usually because I'm currently writing this on mobile.
It was pointed out to me that according to the rules, Pokemon unranked on the VR are allowed to be posted as long as the nomination is accompanied by replays. I am removing this rule; only Pokemon ranked on the VR may be submitted. I thought I had already removed this rule earlier, but I guess I didn't.
The OP will be updated shortly.
Exeggutor-Alola @ Dragonium Z / Life Orb
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Draco Meteor
- Giga Drain / Leaf Storm
- Flamethrower
Counter. This Articuno set lets it practically wall Eggy-A. Even if Cuno at full HP comes in on rocks and loses 49% HP and then gets hit by Eggy-A, it can still recover that lost HP w/Roost and then attack right back and possibly OHKO w/Freeze-Dry!
0 SpA Articuno Freeze-Dry vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Exeggutor-Alola: 364-432 (92.6 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 204+ SpD Articuno: 145-172 (37.8 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 204+ SpD Articuno: 136-160 (35.5 - 41.7%) -- 83% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Giga Drain/Leaf Storm wasn't worth the mention so I neglected it!
Abomasnow is a check. While it can't come in directly, Blizzard is an obvious OHKO on Alolan-Exeggutor and if under trick room, Ice Shard can KO it if weakened.
4 Atk Life Orb Abomasnow Ice Shard vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Exeggutor-Alola: 250-296 (63.6 - 75.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after hail damage
