"Purple Links"

So you know the link of every youtube video off by heart?

lol, how is this relevant? I was saying that I know which links I've visited on the Smogon site. Perhaps I have fewer problems since I don't browse you-tube beyond what people link to here...

so THAT'S why they keep changing colors...

also i like it. if chaos posts in, say, the competitor thread and i read it, then come back in a few days and it says chaos posted last i get to know if there's posts in between so its really helpful. the color doesnt matter. but if it were something like purple to bright red it'd get annoying.

I prefer monochrome stuff like blue (unvisited) and light blue (visited). It functions and it still looks all right. I'd take purple over no color for visited links though. They can be helpful.

Yes, I agree with this.
I think the "visited" colour should remain but I don't like that purple.

Yeah that does make more sense. I would just hate getting linked to the same old popular 'funny videos' I've already been sent to on the numerous other sites I visit without knowledge of my previous visit heh.

For pages with lots of links like the Smogondex, I like to see some sort of indication of where I have already been, because it's sort of annoying to click on something only to realize that you've already clicked on it before, especially if you're on a slow and unreliable connection.

I'd rather have an altered "New posts" thingy. Have it only mark the thread as read if you actually read it. Right now, if I even log on, if I have no forum activity for some amount of minutes (I really don't know how long), then it marks the entire forum as read, so the "This thread has new posts" thing only works for posts the have occurred since my last activity. On most forums with this layout, they also have a "Mark this forum as read" button right at the top of each subsection, so if I just want to see anything new after right now without having to actually read everything, I can just hit that and I'm good.

lol I realized that after I posted and I was coming back to edit it but apparently it was too late. =(

Anyway, for what you're actually asking, I, too, am against the purple links on the site, as it would force me to click on every Pokemon analysis to be able to read one.

If it really bothers you, you can use CSS to change them. Open up Notepad and type in stuff. Off the top of my head, a:visited { color: #0000 } will make all visited links black. Then set the web browser to use the CSS file. Volia.

hbdragon88: thanks for your help, but I am literally a professional web designer. I was asking a question, not a solution

haha

back on topic; I've always liked visited links looking the way they do when hovered over -- it tends to continue matching the style while still standing out. Then again, it's not really a big thing for me either way.

Oh. Well, my post was a kind of response to those who seemed to be really agitated by purple links; there's a solution for that. As for answering the topic, well, I don't get annoyed, just as long as the links turn some color other than the original links.

I really wouldnt be one to be annoyed by them or find them "dirty" and would take their practicality over what little graphical design drawback they might have.
