[QC Ready 0/3] Excadrill

I think it's important to mention somewhere that for Excadrill to OHK bulky Rotom-W he needs to be either Adamant+ExpertBelt or Jolly+LifeOrb (and obviously Adamant+LifeOrb works too).

252+ Atk Expert Belt Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 305-360 (100.3 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 304-359 (100 - 118%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This is one of the main criteria when considering what item and nature you want to run as I'm sure bulky Rotom-W isn't going anywhere and Excadrill is one of the few pokemon that can handle it well.

a few comments:

Rock Tomb can, and should, be mentioned somewhere as an alternative to rock slide. At 60 power, it's only 20% weaker than rock slide, and has a very good side effect.

252+ Atk Excadrill (Move 1) vs. 192 HP / 4 Def Talonflame: 392-464 (113.6 - 134.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
So no loss there.

252+ Atk Excadrill (Move 1) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragonite: 156-184 (48.2 - 56.9%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO
Rock Slide is a clean 2hko, however, Rock Tomb lets you attack as it tries to DD and kill it, whereas Rock Slide would get killed back in return.

Of course, it does less to walls and such, but it works better against offensive teams.

Also, a Choice scarf set could be made with 3 attack + spin. Between its base 135 Attack, strong STAB move with good coverage (aided by Mold Breaker), and acceptable bulk with some very good resistances (SR, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Rock attacks, Fairy moves, Flying), it can pick off large chunks of the metagame at the end of a match or beat some threats mid-game. Specifically, Scarf lets it check +1 Mega TTar, +1 Tyrantrum, Mega Charizards at +0, Talonflame, and Mega Pinsir. edit: and Lucario. Lucario is another big one.

The set I use looks like this

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 236 Spd / 20 HP / 252 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Tomb
- Rapid Spin
- Shadow Claw

Max attack for power, 236 Spd with scarf lets you outspeed everything up to Timid Mega Manectric, which is the only relevant threat at that point, and rest dumped in HP for some bulk. You can lower the speed to 216 to beat +1 Jolly Mega TTar and Tyrantrum, however, that leaves you open to Mega Manectric, which is one pokemon it should beat, usually.

Moveset is just the only 4 usable moves it currently has, EQ for STAB, Rock Tomb to kill off talonflame and mega pinsir, altough Rock Slide could be used in its place (without a boost, nothing significant dies to rock slide though), Shadow Claw to kill Trev/Grourgeist, and Rapid Spin to pull off a suicide spin in a pinch.

I noticed in your calculations that you have a +252 rock tomb on the talonflame which 1hit KOs it, I'm fairly new on these forums but where is that boost coming from, if it's going to 1hit KO a talonflame without a boost then I see more benefits running that instead of rock slide as I dont really get flinch hax as much as I want it to

That was to do with the nature being used, ###+ means that the nature used increases that particular stat. You'll notice he mentions using Adamant with Expert Belt and then Jolly with the LO calcs.

Ah I see, should have thought of that, I made my excadrill jolly before trying out the choice scarf set so that doesn't really apply to me anymore, back to rock slide hax it is.

Edit: Actually, after running the math the jolly/252atk rock tomb would still one hit KO the talonflame.

what do you guys want, seriously

just tell me the sets i need to include and i'll make it happen. thinking av / offensive sd / scarf, in that order.

I think the scarf set needs prediction and be locked into moves such as EQ, Rapid Spin, Rock Slide and Shadow claw is incredibly dangerous and a lot of pokemons can set up on them. I haven't tried the set myself but...
Anyway i think you should slash jolly on the main set and it will look fine to me.

I have tried this set, and I fully agree that being locked into any one of excadrills attacks is dangerously exploitable. Granted, almost all scarfers suffer from this, but excadrill has it pretty bad, even with mold breaker. Merits include suprise factor, and rapid spinning very quickly in a pinch, but not much else co mpared to other scarfers.
